Thanks for all the praise, it's great to see you get right into the earning. If you continue at this pace it's only a matter of time before you end up with some PK time on top as well. The 2nd PP unit has really gotten going after you and @JigglyGumballswere added to it. Hopefully you can keep getting some PP markers on that line and work from there to get more offense going in Even Strength as well.

Opening up my career I decide to sign with the Aces because of the great influence and managerial skills of @Shindigs. I am currently 3rd in FO with a 60% success rate on a 3rd line with great players on my wings Hugh G Johnson @EMoney002and Rustyov Dusterov @LanerDUST. I have joined a winning culture with a 7-0-1 record. I’ve had a captain with great leadership in Juan Ceson  @dylanjj37his bot fan club or fan club sounds interesting but still don’t know how I think of bots. My favorite part of playing with such a strong and great team is that like players in the NHL like Brayden Point who play on contenders didn’t have to carry a load of the team and can just play their game and opposite would be year one Jack Hughes or Cole Caulfield at the season advent. I haven’t scored much but I had that sweet sweet first goal game getting the puck for the cabinet even scoring twice in the game. I have had a great team with some even greater people and the greatest front office to be able to work myself into my first year in the VHLM and be able to play some decent minutes on the ice with such a strong set of lines.

    1. I think that our deep and talented roster is what's getting us wins. Most of the time we simply outscore some teams. Other games comes from clutch plays or great goaltending. It's like all aspects of the roster is contributing some way.

    2. I think it's really cool, I wouldn't change it. I think it's unique to Vegas so I like the format now.

    3. Ping me please. I want to be praised.

    5. Anything in the 4th round is a steal in my books. From personal experience that's the best round to find hidden gems. So yeah, I'd say he's the biggest steal.

JigglyGumballs reacted to Shindigs in I was supposed to talk about the VHFL, but the sheet is broken again. So I'll just talk about Vegas, I guess?
Actually I'll still talk about the VHFL a bit, the draft was painful this season. I thought the group I was managing last season was giving me a reasonable baseline for the amount of effort that was required to be Group Manager, I was wrong. I think I ended up spending more time on that for 1 TPE than I did on the HOF article for 5 TPE. So #notworth from just a work-to-TPE ratio. But I'm kind of lowkey going for the 2k TPE record with Bo, so I'm not going to leave any TPE on the table either. Not because I really care about records, just cause it's a fun challenge for myself. I do love those.

    Las Vegas Aces Season Start
We're off to quite the start, I knew we had a very solid roster. With our only glaring weakness being the lack of that 4th Dman. But with @JigglyGumballs recreating at the absolute perfect time, that was all taken care of. Sometimes you're just lucky, I guess? So pleased to have him back where he belongs in Vegas, and he's off to a raging start as he will pick up the "High Roller" award for this week as the team's top TPE earner.

Now as much as our 9-0-1 start is impressive, and how happy I am about the performances of all our lovely players. We have had an absolutely insane schedule so far. I feel like apart from a couple games we've just been playing Mexico, Houston and SSK. All in deep rebuilds, and two of them running bot goalies. So really those are games we *should* be winning. I've used the schedule being what it is to get our backup a solid number of starts early, so that's nice.

Once we go into a more competitive part of the schedule our numbers will no doubt drop, which obviously isn't something I look forward to. But it's also going to test us as a team and let us show what we're actually made of. That I am looking forward to. As I do feel like we have 2 incredibly strong lines, both easily good enough to be the 1st line on just about any team. While also having a third line that's anchored by FO specialist William Futch @Futch. Who has consistently been Top 3 in FO% despite only being a week into his VHL experience. On his wings Hugh G Johnson @EMoney002and a double shifted Rustyov Dusterov @LanerDUST have been putting up points to make it so no matter who we have on the ice, we still can make the opposition pay.

On the theme of making the opposition pay, we have really been throwing our bodies around out there. Blake MacTavish @Blakemac22 has emerged as one of the top Power Forwards in the league this season, with top hits and scary offensive production, as well as Top 10 FO%. VHLE GMs should take notice, as he will be hitting VHLE FA next season. Right behind him is bruising defenseman Jimmy MacElroy @Xflexz with 37 hits to Blake's league leading 39. Which means that no matter what, if you're playing Vegas it's going to hurt.

Hello, resident burnout legend Plate here coming at you live with some quality advice.

First of all, you should have signed with San Diego. @Shindigs is an absolute goon.

I'll speak on behalf of everyone and say that you were genuinely missed. You achieved a feat that not many members do. You broke the 1000 TPE threshold as a first-gen. On top of garnering plenty of experience in the VHLM as a general manager. Trade the picks, trust the process. That is the mentality of a general manager who puts their locker room at the forefront of their mind. That is the mentality of a general manager that embodies the values of the VHLM. To create an active locker room and have a sustainable community in one of the most marketable franchises in the VHLM.

    As someone who's a bit of an expert at burning out, and as someone who NOBODY would be surprised by if I left tomorrow, I can tell you this as much. The VHL is not about;
Maxing out every week (Though every GM out there agrees with this but won't openly admit otherwise) Meta builds (Though most people will try to make their scoring as high as possible anyway) Being the best GM and making the best trades (Though I wrote a 5k mega article about it) The VHL is a forum-based simulation hockey league. You, the BoG, me, and everyone else is here for fun. That is why you were missed. Because you made the VHL experience fun for everyone you came across, even when you fucked up in a bad trade.

On a more personal note, I'm glad that you're feeling better from COVID. You'll find employment that's sufficient. The issue you're having now is not uncommon for people your age. Once you find a job and work at it for a bit, your inexperience will turn into experience.

It's going good, chief. Welcome back.

So uhh... Hey. It's been a while hasn't it?

A lot has changed since I left the VHL. A lot of new faces, but still a lot of familiar older ones. Now before I start going off and reintroducing myself, I wanna clarify that I've been gone for only a few months. Though I'm making it sound like I'm an ancient relic of the past. With that in mind, uhh hey! If you don't know me, I'm JigglyGumballs. Most people simply refer to me as Jiggs. I've been a member of the VHL since June 2020 so technically I'm heading towards year two now. So that's nice. In terms of contributions in the VHL, I've been an AGM and eventually the GM of Las Vegas in the M for a period of time.  Sorta did some weird draft picks and made some dumb trades. Also spammed the term "TRADE THE PICKS TRUST THE PROCESS" when I could. Anyways, I guess this is my shameless attempt to milk TPE out of a sort of catch up post on what I've been doing since I left so if you don't really give a shit. Then uh, how's it going chief?

To start things off, why come back now? Well, I did say in my last post that when I feel comfortable of earning the max amount of TPE per week again, I'd return to the VHL. So here I am attempting to fulfill that promise. Along with that the introduction of a new stats system that overhauls the previous meta. I thought that it might be a good time to come back and learn all the new stuff. In terms of my player, I honestly kinda want to dick around with my build. It's leaning towards another defensive defenseman like how I did my last player, but I'm really hoping for a more goon build that only makes slapshots. If this becomes a viable build as part of the new meta, then you're welcome for ruining the new attributes.

In terms of irl stuff. Uh to those interested, I've applied for a college now. Yay... I'm also struggling to find a job because I didn't consider getting any sort of work experience or volunteer hours earlier in highschool. Double yay... And guess what, I got COVID and extended my spring break by two weeks LET'S GOOOOO. Depressing shit aside, I'm doing really well now. After an honestly disappointing experience with COVID, I'm at the back half of highschool. I've spent a lot more time with my friends and just been enjoying life on a day by day basis. In terms of what I want to achieve in my second coming in the VHL, I hope to some day go back to the GMing/AGMing scene though I'm not quite ready for that now. I also hope that I can be just as active as I was before. With all the new changes and new faces, I really want to re-experience the VHL in a new light. So excuse me in advance for being a dumbass and not knowing new things. So yeah. I'm back, and I hope I don't die and become inactive anytime soon.

    Gruffud Theofylaktos: The Greek Menace

Born in Heraklion located on the island of Crete, the young Greek's hockey dreams would begin when Gruff's family moved to Athens when he was four. It was in Athens where Gruff gained interest in the winter sport when the winter olympics were being broadcasted. As a child, he quickly fell in love. With Gruff describing it in his own words, it was "love at first sight." Though because ice hockey was not a prominent sport in the country, there were very few ice rinks available that can facilitate such a hockey dream. Because of that, Gruff had spent most of his early childhood playing his next best choice soccer. However, his fate would soon change when his family would move again. This time, his family would immigrate to the US.

Gruff's family would move to the city of Denver in Colorado. He had extended family already living there, so the adjustment period to a new country and culture was less challenging. For the young Greek, this was a dream come true. The US's hockey market was huge, and they were in Denver too. The Colorado Avalanche of the NHL would be a big influence for the 10 year old Gruff. It reactivated his dreams of playing hockey, and soon after immigrating, he would take up the skates and play for a local team. Gruff was not exactly the fastest skater in his team, heck he barely knew how to skate, yet it was easy to tell that the kid had potential. Placed on defense due to his lack of speed, his first indicator of potential was a talented physical prowess. While Gruff was still pretty small, he could out muscle players on the boards. When he finally could properly skate, he was considered a physical monster that can shut down an opposing team's defense. By high school, scouts have taken note of Gruff's potential, and while playing in AAA hockey, Gruff would soon commit to the US National Team Development Program's U17 team.

Gruff's physical prowess would continue to dominate, as while he didn't put up as many points compared to the more dynamic defensemen he had as teammates, he was a shut down defender. Standing at a tall 6'4'' at 17, and just weighing in at 212lbs. Gruff could lay out the body, grind out the boards, and had a heavy slapshot. He became a sort of enforcer figure for the team. No one wanted to fight if he was on the ice. Someone tried running over the goalie? Gruff would beat them to a pulp. He became known as the Greek Menace during this time, as he still had a Greek accent while he spoke fluent English.

Heading towards the end of his U18 season, Gruff decided that he wasn't going to get drafted. Instead committing to the University of Michigan. It was a promise he made to his parents. To finish college and get a degree. While he had dreams of playing for a professional team, he knew that his play style, unless there was a new dimension to it, would not bring him far at a professional level. So that's what he did at college. He began producing more on the offensive side, and all the while he worked on his degree. Once he played his last season in the NCAA, he spent another two years in college. Though even if his hockey career seemed over, there were still teams looking to sign him as a free agent. Notably in the VHLM. With that in mind, Gruff would be given a contract by the Las Vegas Aces of the VHLM, and his hockey dreams would continue...

JigglyGumballs reacted to MetalToday in The Problem the VHL has Attracting New Players
The VHL is a great place and has great members, but it doesn’t have the growth or attraction to people that it should at this point. Although most forums have small, but dedicated members, (Reddit seems to be different) the VHL gives something else, simulations of a hockey player the member can create. There is not much attachment to new people on this forum, it seems to keep a very small number of members. Why could this be when the forum has more ways to play than one? Well, I think there are many problems that still need to be fixed.

One of the problems I see on this forum is the VHLE. It sounds a bit dumb, but if you look at many of the VHL teams, you will notice a large reduction of players on these teams, and this is not from recruiting issues, well it is, but it is from having a new league taking away from the big league, as well, making the VHLM drafts unmeaningful. The lack of players getting into the big leagues and making it harder to give players a chance at the more meaningful sims is a bit of a turn-off. If you recognize there are 3 leagues to the site, and the NHL equivalent is a real grind, it can be a turn-off for many people. There are people who would do this grind, but the grind needs to have a player base to want to grind there. The current players are doing so, but many new players would say “screw that”. Obviously, some players will come for the grind, and dedicate themselves, but I think it will turn more people off than on. It seems like the VHLM has become more irrelevant, being used as a holder for any inactive players to still play and giving dedicated players useless GM jobs in the minors. Obviously re-creates will be added in this league, but they usually don’t stay past that 1 partial season. I guess new players could dominate this league, but without a larger player base in these leagues, and an increase in inactive players, this forum could be seen more as a joke, or forgotten by new players if there is no one to chat with or communicate with on their VHLM team. (I have had experience with inactive, or less communicative management in the VHLM which applies to this) I see many problems with having the VHLE in this league, although I recognize there are some rebuttals, and some good to come out of this new league, I do not see it welcoming a new player base the way it should. Also, there is a North American division, and a European division in the VHL I don’t really understand the need for this league, even for PR. Instead, it could have had the same divisions as the VHL, and kept the 250 cap, even 300 if absolutely needed.

When new players sign up, most know nothing about the simulation forums, and they need a lot of help. Without a good menu describing how to get TPE, what to look for when applying that TPE, what the forum is about, help sections, and FAQ’s it will cause a lot of confusion and issues for new players. Discord is still and will always be a great way of communicating, and keeping people interested using an external source, don’t lose that. There still needs to be some installations to really help new players, and yes I am sure there are some threads with each thing I brought up in this paragraph, but the fact is this forum is so deep, players who have been here for months or years will often say “there’s a what thread???” Creating threads isn’t terrible, but it seems that the ones that get highlighted are the ones only dedicated members usually view. I think any threads that can be helpful to new players should be on the main browser in the forum and highlighted. This would help the new players understand more about the forum, and honestly, this would help old players learn things they do not know. Now, a common mistake I see on sites is a long tutorial on how to do everything, nobody wants to read that, keep the descriptions, and help short and simple. This tutorial should not just be used on the forum, no, you need to also implement it on the portal as well. This is where most new players will sign up, and once they signup there needs to be a small tutorial of all of this right in their face. Have a portal tutorial tab, again, simple and short. Currently, we have some of these suggestions, but they are so hidden, that no new players want to dig for them, it would be an unrealistic request.

Another problem for newer players would be toxicity. Well, it's not direct toxicity towards new or newer players, but kind of indirect. Remember the help tab I suggested in the last paragraph? Well, I suggested having one in the suggestion thread, that was about 8 months ago, and it was approved. I still believe one of the problems with that thread was it being buried among other threads. Again, nobody is going to look for a help thread, they may post it in random unrelated threads, or, more likely, just avoid posting any help or questions they may have. So yeah, this thread was buried, but it's not in the toxic section for that reason, it's here because of what was posted by some of the well know, long-term, and higher-up members. I won’t repeat some of the things that were said as they were not relevant, I think some of it was inside jokes, and others were funny comments, but for such a thread you need to have some professionalism. New players won’t ask questions/comments if it seems more like a joke thread rather than a help thread. This could be toxic as many new people could see this as the league laughing at members needing help. I wouldn't really care about the toxicity if it wasn't on a help thread looking to help many new players, but I don’t think it should be left on a thread that could stop new members from asking questions. This suggestion was really meant for newer players to have a safe place to ask questions, as we know, you don’t want newer players to ask questions to the wrong crowd… This might have sounded like me complaining that my suggestion wasn’t taken seriously, but that wouldn’t be correct, I have had many suggestions shot down in my life, my problem is the lack of help the league is willing to give to these new players, rather it seems to be a free for all to figure things out for yourself.

This next comment I want to bring up is the “clickers”, but this is related to the VHLE part. For those that don’t know clickers are the term members use for other members who look to only collect the easy welfare and practice tpe. These players might lose a lot of dedication because instead of 250 tpe they need 400 tpe to get to the big league. This isn’t the ideal situation for players who don’t have much time on their hands but still want to be a part of this community, and some may not even know how these leagues work. Although having clickers are not ideal for the VHL GMs and maybe not even the commissioners, it can be ideal for mouth-to-mouth recruitment. The more "clickers" you have, means you get more people, which means it is more likely you get people mentioning the “real life be a pro” and this could even get the site with higher volume, putting it higher on search engines. I think there should be something else to encourage “clickers” to stay, with some other ‘minigame’ to give easy and free uncapped tpe. Obviously, it would be collected by everyone, not just clickers, but it gives them something to do, and something to stay on the site longer, and maybe they would be induced to explore more.

I think having minigames could be fun and attract more people to the site, but understandably, it is not an easy way to attract people, nor is it ideal for people to only come for minigames, that isn’t what was built, but I think it would definitely be a great attraction. That’s just a small suggestion though, the main suggestion in this article is to gain the love of the new players, and considering the menus and suggestions still haven’t been implemented after 9 years, shocks me. You shouldn’t expect the system I wrote here to work all the time because people will avoid tutorials, they will be shy to ask questions, they won’t read everything, but you need to give these new members a fighting chance in this league. Most will probably continue to wonder how some people can get over 1500 tpe, in fact, I’m wondering that myself, some will leave thinking it’s a pay to win, as I thought when I started. I think the league needs to better themselves with the new player base, the recruitment is a different issue, but no one will continue to come back to the site if there is no help for anything.

Now I wanted to give the reason I wrote about this topic today, when I started in this league, I had no idea how this site worked. I ended up coming back every week only collecting welfare and practice because I didn’t know what else to do. Later I was invited to a team discord and there I got a little bit more information and I continued to do more, but I still was missing out compared to the other players around the league. Slowly understood more every week, but I still had so many questions and frustrations that I didn’t know where to go. I could have gone to the team and asked, but I was shy and decided not to, I liked watching and seeing what other questions and mentions were said before doing anything. I ended up getting drafted and the VHL team and they didn’t have a discord link, so there really wasn’t a locker room for this team other than on the site. I ended up coming back a couple more times, but there were really no locker room conversations, and all the mentions I got on discord that often helped me learn more about this league were gone. I unintentionally forgot about the VHL as it was not on discord, an app that opens automatically once I turn on my computer and @'s that often reminded me to collect tpe. Later I remembered this site and came back, so many changes were made, I forgot how to collect tpe. I continued the way I did before until someone gave me through discord a link on how to collect TPE, and that changed everything. I don’t believe I have missed a week of collecting TPE since that, and I plan to continue. I wanted to show how long it took me to understand this league more and more, and still, I am learning, but I think a lot of dedicated people to this league have either been a part of it since the start or have been on forums like this for a long period of time. Take me for example, I am not new to this league, but I am somewhat dedicated, and I still have navigation troubles, let alone the start was hellish for me. When I collected welfare and practice at the beginning there was a forum that you had to write +4 or +2 for the desired tpe, but I didn’t know this, I put it in the comment section when collecting the tpe, because I didn’t even know the forum existed. Later someone messaged me saying I had to write it there and I was like, “Ohhhh ok”. The site needs these tutorials, and suggestions like I included here. If I had a place for “help” I would look through it for the question I wanted to be answered. Again, I was shy, so I didn’t want to be the one asking questions, but I know someone had probably asked it too, so I would check, and I wouldn’t be alone for that. Shy people don’t want to ask questions, but they can become more involved over time which would allow them to speak out and ask more.

Hopefully, this was somewhat helpful, I have thought about this for quite some time, and I thought I was ready to say something about it. I hope this can help the league to implement new systems to help the new players and understand the problems new players can run into daily. I think the systems will do their jobs over time, and don’t forget the FAQ’s so people don’t need to always wait for answers. Short and sweet is always the best way to engage new players to understand the site more.

Las Vegas, Nevada - In a post-game interview following the 7-4 victory against the Houston Bulls, LVA's newest defenseman, Gruffud Theofylaktos, was asked an interesting question regarding his diet. A reporter for a local news tabloid asked the amount of milk Gruff consumes in order for him to play like he does. Surprisingly, Gruff said that he doesn't drink milk. Stating that he was lactose intolerant. After some laughter, Gruff said that he "doesn't know why [the reporter] would ask how much milk he consumes." Further elaborating on his statement he mentions that "if it was almond milk, then about 5 gallons." It was unclear if he meant it or not, but following the game, fans of the Aces started referring him as the Milk Man. Ironic considering his inability to drink milk and other dairy products.

During a team practice, teammates notably Juan Ceson, would throw Gruff cartons of almond milk. Obviously referring to the defenseman's new status as the Milk Man. When interviewed about the pranks, Gruff laughed it off remarking that "at least they were considerate enough to give [Gruffud] almond milk." The name has since become a fan favorite. It was more marketable, but less menacing than Gruff's previous title as the Greek Menace. Las Vegas management has hinted at potential merch marketing the nickname. Depicting their newest defenseman holding cartons of almond milk with a bright big smile. However at the expense of Gruffud himself, that might stay as an idea until further notice. Nevertheless, this start of the season is quite an interesting one for the Greek rookie.

Wasn't around to watch the guy, but there's no denying he was a legend of the game, and a huge part of Montreal's past successes. Lung cancer from a history of smoking, it seems.

So uhh...

"Both of these teams will be pretty bad this season."

     - 10th
Houston is going right into rebuilding territory with this one. We could even see them worsen as the season progresses with some trades. Now imagine a rebuilding franchise without a starting goaltender. I can only imagine how bad the goal differential will be for this team.

     - 9th
Saskatoon's forwards and defense are slightly weaker on paper than Houston's. Both of these teams will be pretty bad this season. With a starting goalie in Basileus jute, the goalie should pad their save stats as tons of shots will be against them.

     - 8th
Mexico has two capped players who are the faces of this franchise for this year and will stand alone as such until the next draft.

     - 7th
Philadelphia finds themselves as the first team with okay potential and might be able to fringe out a playoff spot. A couple of good forward free agent signings mean this team can use longtime VHLM goalie Wiley Blanchette.

     - 6th
Mississauga is the first team on the list to put forward a complete first forward line, a first d pairing, and a starting goalie, whose all members fit above 100 TPE. Don't expect much from the Hounds this season. They'll be pretty average and, I assume, are already looking to add onto their prospects come the next draft.

     - 5th
Miami's got one comparable defensive core to the rest of the contending teams looking to make splashes in the playoffs.

     - 4th
Ottawa's a decent team. Mikayev Ivanovitch and James Marino are incredible pieces for the Lynx, and I can see things coming together for this team at the end of the season. I expect them to be top three by the time the playoffs roll around. For now, they have some depth issues, but those are easily solvable.

     - 3rd
Vegas is a great team. I would pin them as the first true championship-level team, and you'll see them battle it out for the best playoff position through the season. They have a lot of talent, and I can't wait to see them use their combination of defensive responsibility and offensive power to pack one-two punches against their opponents.

     - 2nd
Halifax takes everything from their past few seasons and gives themselves the top dog position in the East by far. The 21st is indeed a complete team with depth in every single position. A full four lines worth of forwards and a decent one-two punch in tandem means they can rotate goalies and not overwork them too much.

    - 1st
San Diego ends as the top dog in my power rankings. They had a great draft, and while you may say that Halifax could squeeze past them in my starting evaluation, I have to say that I'm biased only for this week because I play for San Diego. They have incredible depth and an insane defensive core so that you could flip a coin, and either Halifax or San Diego could land here.

    1. I think what makes a great captain is a person who's willing to be active as a player consistently and is willing to help the team's newer members.

    2. Seeing as I have a bit of catching up to do, I'd have to say Rustyov Dusterov, Dogwood Maple, and Travis Clark.

    3. Nothing much happened since my family just recovered from COVID. But we did go out for boba on Easter Sunday.

    4. Biggest strength has to be goaltending and our forward core. Biggest weakness is our defensive depth despite having some really good defensemen. I think we could really go far if we fill those holes.

    5. I'm in the process of just experimenting, I'll base my build on some of the stuff that might be potentially viable, but I really want to just mess around and see what works and what doesn't.

    6. I don't know how to skate so I don't play ice hockey. I have played some floor hockey intramurals before and I played both goalie and defense.
