Kevin Sterk has announced their retirement.

Guess no one wanted to waste.....I mean spend a pick on me in the second round and took a chance on someone else, well guess what buddy? Good job. You probably got someone more active who won't retire but that don't mean that I will do that either. So I just wanted to post this title to see which GM's would actually look into here and see what I was writing. Guess my "activity" made you not want me. Well guess what buddy? I am going to start earning TPE again just because you decided to not take a chance on me and I may not have been the best candidate at your pick but I am still a decent pick as I may not have earned like I used to but I am earning consistently without missing a week. So I got drafted to Calgary and decided it was a good time to start earning TPE so that way I can make you regret not taking a 2nd round chance on me.

Intro
       To some people’s surprise, Malmo has held onto 3 1st round picks. While this off-season isn’t over yet, it’s unclear if all three players will be in the team long term. The 1st round ended up bouncing all over the place, and I think Malmo took full advantage and made great picks in all 3 spots. At the end, I’ll finish off with a couple other small updates and predictions for Malmo. Without further ado, let’s introduce these new faces to the Nighthawks!
 
Taylor Mourning, RW
   Mourning was selected 10th overall, which is an insane drop to many players, fans, and probably other GM’s who weren’t picking before Malmo. This beastly 6’3, 200 pound winger put up 54 points during his first full season in the VHLM. His playoff performance is what caught many scouts eyes, with 9 points in 6 post season games. Mourning could be a huge part of Malmo going forward. But a season in the VHLE is likely for Taylor

Lilith Lunar, D
     Selected at 15th late in the first round, Lunar has shown plenty of potential going forward, and probably deserves the jump into the first round. TPE comes on a pretty consistent basis for Lunar. Standing 6 feet tall and weighing in at 190 pounds, Lunar put up 37 points in her first full year, and had a point per game in 7 playoff games. 2 seasons outside of the VHL is most likely for Lunar. After this year, Lunar should qualify for the VHLE.

Miroslav Tsarov, LW 
   This big 6’8, 250 pound winger is another guy who arguably dropped a couple positions in the draft. Tsarov had 58 points in the VHLM during his first full season there, and is likely to take a couple years before working up to the Malmo squad. 
 
Other News
     Papa Emeritus went first overall to Moscow in the VHL draft. In other Malmo news, they offered a contract to bring back D man Kamenov for one more season, while also offering contracts to other free agents. They include Odinsson and Gumballs. Kamenov would be a big piece to bring back even if it is one more season. He has 140 tpe banked. So getting a 500 plus tpe player for one more year would be huge on the back end for Malmo. Odinsson would in theory be a huge splash for Malmo, although competition for him is fierce. Gumballs would be a really nice player to bring in. He has 2 years left before retirement. And would insure a solid top 3 at least for Malmo, assuming Kamenov signs back too. As the draft roars on, it’s still a possibility that Malmo get some kind of deal done tonight. 
 
      Malmo making 3 picks may have actually raised the value of those picks, rather then if they had been traded prior to the draft. Hylands must not have seen a deal he liked enough, so this is some really nice draft work.  That’s pretty much it for this media spot. I’d like to welcome all 3 new draftees to Malmo! Anyone who has been around the VHL for awhile will surely know, or at least be vaguely aware, that July 18th, specifically July 18th, 2007, is the VHL's birthday! That means today marks the day that our community turns an incredible 14 years old. As an old fart that has been around since that day I can say that is stuns me every year when this post goes up that we're still going when you consider that leagues back in 2007 rarely made it to 3 years, let alone 14. As always though, we aren't just putting some gifs up and calling it a day, we aren't stupid. We know you clicked on this for the TPE and intend on delivering.
 
To commemorate the league's 14th birthday, we are giving all members a Triples Week, which adds 12 Uncapped TPE to any 6-TPE Point Task (Welfare/Pension/Affiliate PT are not included but as usual if your pay covers your PT that counts), as well as 2 Uncapped TPE. To claim these perks, which naturally add up to 14 Uncapped TPE, all you need to do is post in this thread and then link to that post in your update; that's it. We aren't even making you come up with a memory or anything this year, just a post.
 

 
Not only are we giving TPE away this year but we're also giving away some bonus items as well because really, what's a birthday without presents? Anyone who comments on this thread, thus getting the bonus mentioned above, will be entered into a draw that contains three copies of NHL 21 (for your console of choice) and an NHL Jersey of your choice. We'll have a live draw for these prizes sometime after the post closes in a week so stay tuned for that.

This past week was a busy one for sure. That's what the offseason brings. We had the World Cup and WJC tournaments start, both award shows happen, a GM hiring, and more anticipation for the drafts. 
 
Powers was selected for the World Juniors, which was an honor. The roster on paper is certainly star-studded. Hopefully Canada can win gold.
 
Another offseason tournament, the Victory ProAm, is also beginning. Powers was drafted to Portland, which is where he played in another league before joining the VHL association. 
 
Next we saw dlamb get hired in Warsaw, which he deserved. The Preds will be dangerous again this season. 
 
With dlamb on the VHL management scene now, Ottawa was without a general manager for a bit before 16z was hired. 
 
16z has done a great job adjusting to GM life and has been awesome to work with in our discussions for next season. 
 
Last night we had the S78 VHLM Awards Show. The Rush won quite a bit of hardware. Tyler Reinhart won MVP of the season, Tynan Sylvester got top defender, and Juice got GM of the season. Powers got playoff MVP, which honestly I wasn't expecting. I thought Reinhart or Papa would get it for sure. Nonetheless, it's a huge honor for sure.
 
That's about it for now. We do have the drafts coming up in the near future. Those should be very exciting and the anticipation is building with every day that passes.
