    ACTIVITY

If you have been tagged in this post, congratulations! You are one of the VHL's 91 active members! In this study, I have divided the VHL's members into three categories; very active, moderately active, and somewhat active. Anyone who who like to view the excel spreadsheet I created for the study can click here. In the spreadsheet, you will find that I have classified the VHL as having 27 people I define as very active, 43 people who are moderately active, and 21 people who are a little active. To find all the members of the study, I browsed through the update pages of each VHLM and VHL initially finding the actives and inactive by hovering over their username to see the last time they both logged in and posted. My ratings of peoples' activity was mostly subjective, based on how well I believe people drive activity. People who I rated as very active are high activity drivers who create lots of activity by posting a lot and daily, as well as possibly holding positions of high importance or that require high amounts of activity. People who I rated as moderately active are those may not facilitate discussion, but instead join in discussion if it occurs. These people post frequently, but probably not daily. These people range from anywhere to point taskers to welfare recipients and those who do both, they just have less posting activity than those deemed very active. Lastly, the somewhat active users are those who just log in and only post in welfare and tpe related stuff, but don't provide much activity around the boards. I divided users into the VHLM and VHL so we can take a look at both.

    VHLM

The VHLM players consist of 8 very active members, 16 moderately active members, and 6 members who are a little active. This totals out to an average of 1 very active member per team, 2 moderately active members per team, and 0.75 little activity members per team, for a total of an average of 3.75 active members per team. In addition, I have 6 VHLM GMs ranked as very active, 1 VHLM GM ranked as moderately active, and one open vacancy soon to be filled. This means that each VHLM team should average out to 2 very active members driving discussion, along with 2 moderately active members who would participate in the discussion from time to time. These are pretty mediocre numbers, and while not horrible I think we could do a lot better. If the VHLM were shrunk to six teams, it would average 1.33 high activity members per team, 2.66 moderate actives per team, and 1 a little active per team, for a total of 5 actives per team. Combine this with hopefully I very active GM, and I think shrinking the VHLM to 6 teams is the correct route to take as each team would then average 1.25 more actives per team. Additionally, one benefit to consider in the potential new rule of creating creating second players is the main people who will be creating second players are the very active members and the upper echelon of moderately active members, creating a lot more activity drivers in the VHLM.

    VHL

The VHL consists of 19 very active members, 27 moderately active members, and 10 a little active members, for a total of 56 active members. This averages out to 1.9 very active members per team, 2.7 moderately active members per team, and 1 a little active member per team for a total average of 5.6 active members per team. These numbers are much better than the VHLM's, as having nearly 2 very active members means 2 activity drivers, as well as nearly 3 members who still still participate in the discussion. Interestingly enough, I actually have more VHLM GMs pegged as very active than VHL GMs, with 6 VHLM GMs getting the very active rating compared to only 5 VHL GMs getting the very active rating, also with having less VHLM GMs overall. Luckily, there are no GMs rated as somewhat active, as they probably long ago would have stepped down or been fired. That ratio is probably what I would prefer though, as we need VHLM GMs to be very active more than we need VHL GMs to be very active because the VHLM requires more discussion drivers in order to keep the noobies interested, compared to the people deeper into their VHL careers who clearly are interested to stay this long. Ideally every GM would be very active, but I think the moderately active VHL GMs are still doing a decent enough job.

Look at all them man hours Yeah! is putting in. Gotta love it. Underrated GM things like this help make a LR and a team so great. Some people just get frustrated because oh this member is on welfare or oh this member isn't as active. I feel like those people kind of miss the boat on a huge point about this whole thing. We are in this together, we win together and we lose together. So we should be looking out and helping each other wherever possible. One of the reasons I always find myself on NY, both  @YEAH!stlemania and @Advantage embody these type of qualities as GM's and members.

Making his way onto the Americans roster as a GM Rule player in S36, Wahl was one of many great players to play for the successful New York Americans side between Season 37 and Season 42, a period where the Americans won the Victory Cup four times and the Continental Cup twice. While Wahl was an asset during the regular season, it was his performances during the playoffs that many will remember Wahl for. His terrific play during the Continental Cup winning campaigns of Season 39 and Season 41 saw him take home the Playoff MVP trophy in both of them, while he is also the all-time leader in playoff shutouts by a considerable margin and currently third in all-time playoff save percentage of those who’ve played fifteen games or more.

Was looking at Wahl's playoff stats when finding out Wingate's and was confused how he wasn't in the HoF already. Most shutouts and best playoff GAA among goalies with a decent amount of games. Congrats to both!

Welcome to the S48 VHL Hall of Fame Induction! As is the norm, we have two players and a Builder to induct today.

    ----------------------

First up, a living VHL legend. Some called Remy LeBeau "LeGod", but what does that make Thomas O'Malley? His trophy case is quite remarkable and he is for good reason considered by many as the first player to have a serious case to be the best forward in VHL history since Scotty Campbell. There are so many things to say here that it would be easiest to list them off in bullet point form:

O'Malley played for 3 VHL teams - Cologne, Helsinki, and New York - winning at least one Continental Cup with each of them. Only two other players won four championships and only one (Leeroy Jenkins) won more with five He never missed the playoffs and only was eliminated before the finals twice - in his rookie (S40) and sophomore (S41) seasons. O'Malley was league MVP three times: a feat matched only by Scotty Campbell (retired in S8) and Grimm Jonsson (retired in S17) He was the first player to win the Brett Slobodzian Trophy 4 times. No one has won it more than twice before. O'Malley has won all 3 attacking trophies (top scorer, top goal-scorer, most assists) and even combined the three in S44, matching Campbell, Jonsson, Kevin Brooks' and Odin Tordahl's feats Only Campbell was top scorer more than O'Malley's four times Only Campbell, Alexander Chershenko, and Martin Brookside had previously been crowned VHL MVP both in the regular season and the playoffs, which O'Malley achieved in S45
and you might think that O'Malley did this because of a weaker playing field but no, the very opposite is true. Despite it being so much harder to be successful now than even 20 seasons ago, O'Malley became the first player since Brooks retired in S13 to reach the 900 points mark. Only Campbell, Mike Szatkowski, and Brooks had more points.

    ----------------------

It is hard to top O'Malley but @Advantage has done his best this season.

First, it's been a longer wait than might have been expected but Brick Wahl has been inducted into the Hall of Fame! The New York Americans legend was a key player for the S38-S42 dynasty which won a record 4 straight Victory Cups and added 2 Continental Cups in the playoffs, where Wahl was twice crowned MVP. That's a difficult enough feat on its own - the only goalie to do it before Wahl was Daisuke Kanou with three, and the award is named after him for a reason. Hans Wingate has now matched Wahl's achievement so it remains quite stellar company for the Brick.

He may not have won any regular season individual awards, but Wahl's stats match up nicely to earlier Hall of Fame goalies. Overall, he was a dependable goalie who probably sacrificed greater acclaim for the Americans' good.

    G - Brick Wahl, S36-S43
    443 GP, 296 W, 120 L, 27 OTL, 2.18 GAA, .918%, 48 SO

    S39 Daisuke Kanou Trophy
    S41 Daisuke Kanou Trophy
    Two Continental Cups (S39, S41)

    ----------------------

    Player vote:
    Thomas O'Malley - 14/14
    Brick Wahl - 7/14
    Felix Peters - 3/14
    Bismarck Koening - 1/14

    ----------------------

But that's not the only good news for Advantage/Chris Miller, as he is being inducted into the Hall of Fame as Builder too!

From humble beginnings as S18 draftee Michael Angelo, a dependable career Titans defenceman, Advantage has gone from strength to strength since. Ryan Sullivan and now Wahl has his Hall of Fame players, while his tenure as New York Americans GM (S33-S46), a period in which the Americans won two championships, four straight Victory Cups, and missed the playoffs just four times. Miller became the second GM ever to win 3 David Knight Trophies as the VHL's best GM.

Aside from the STHS side of things, Advantage has been a key member of a Board of Governors for around 20 seasons, being a proponent of many of the major changes implemented in the VHL in that time. He's been an advocate of the VHLM and its reform, going back to his time as Kolari Panthers GM before joining New York and a constant source of ideas and discussion. In the public eye, Chris has always made his views interactive by being a constant feature on the VHL's podcasts, from the long-running Pajodcast series to solo entries. There will of course be other things I can't all mention here but you can read them in his Builder article.

    Congratulations Green and Advantage!

    WORLD CUP EDITION

38 - Team Canada is in first place in the World Cup Round Robin and it is not because of their goaltending.  The team surrendered the second most goals with Atticus Von Braxton IV posting a pretty abysmal .895 SV% and 3.27 GAA.  The reason the team finished with a 7-3 record is because of their offense which has scored thirty-eight goals, which puts them second in the tournament.  Marcel Faux and Bronson Faux lead the team in scoring with sixteen and fifteen points respectively but it really has been a team effort offensively.  Six players on the team are at at least a point per game while two others have recorded eight points in the ten games.  Team Canada has a tough journey ahead of them and they certainly need Von Braxton IV to really step up because while he is not an elite goalie in this league, he is also not this bad.  In the end, the offense has been carrying them, but that may not be enough to win the Gold Medal.

18 - Jorma Ruutu is the leading scorer in this tournament as he continues his great play from his playoff run with New York.  The winger has eighteen points in ten games and is a huge part of the offense that is trying to carry the young and inexperienced Sven Wolf to a Gold Medal.  Ruutu also has recorded twenty-nine hits and has made a huge different in special teams situations with four points so far.  Ruutu has been joined by the likes of Max Molholt (seventeen points), Simon Valmount (thirteen points) and Aleksi Koponen (twelve points), as the leading contributors on this top offensive team.  Team Scandinavia is the only team with more goals than Canada and if they can continue their tremendous offensive play, with the likes of Ruutu leading the way, they may be a tough team to knock out even with Sven Wolf tending the net.

.935 - Sandro Clegane is the man trying to carry the Mercenaries to their first Gold Medal victory.  The team of castoffs are being led by the goalie who has posted a tournament best .935 save percentage and the second best GAA with 2.10.  He is also the only goalie with multiple shutouts and has been doing this on the worst offensive team in the tournament (twenty-three goals).  The Mercenaries don't have much in front of Clegane with E'Twaun Delicious, Kendrick Cole and Bubba Nuck leading the charge, but they have managed to become a darkhorse that everyone is cheering for with Sandro Clegane leading the way.  The elite goaltender of the Bears has once again showed up and he may have a chance to carry this team to the Gold, if their offense can step it up in the Elimination Round.
