  1. Of course you used the Sedins as a render...
  2. Regardless how many there will be, I #blamecole for any single one of them...
  3. In Germany and Switzerland there is a Holiday classic called 'three Hazelnuts for Cinderella'... it is a Czech movie from the 70s and Christmas feels wrong without having seen it. Also in my youth there was always 'Dr Zhivago', 'Gone with the Wind' and 'Ben Hur' on the Television. And of course 'Die Hard' is a Christmas staple.
  4. Graphic courtesy of Leandrofg (Marcel's stats/Daniel's stats) The Calgary Wranglers have now played forty matches. Without further ado let us dive into our summaries. 3-5 Despite a clear shots advantage of 42-29 the Wranglers had to concede the game 5-3 due to the Velociraptor jinx. In the first period, neither team could break the dead lock. In the middle frame DC scored three unanswered goals. The Wranglers replied with goals by Ablar in power play and Wolanin as well as Gonçalves on even strength. Unfortunately, the Dragons recovered from that shock and scored two more goals to take the points in this match. The three best players were elected to be Lavelle (3g/0a), Vidot (0g/4a) and Kitson (1g/1a). On the goalie front, Dahl (.828) could not keep up with Utonium's (.929) performance. Calgary's power play was sub-par (1/6) the penalty kill without fault (2/2). Marcel logged 0g, 1a, -1, 5 hits and 2sb Daniel was reported with 0g, 1a, -1, 2 PIM (Tripping, no effect on the score), 4 hits and 57.14FO% 5-4 (SO) In a match of two teams battling for the first seed in their conference, Calgary defeated Prague in a tight match 5-4 after shootout. The Czech site took an early lead and extended same to two in a power play, after Dan made his presence felt for the first time, when he checked Fire. The officials were of the opinion that the Swiss center showed too much enthusiasm and sent him to the sin bin for roughing. A couple of minutes later, the captain ironed out the kink by scoring and cutting Prague's lead in half. GoodBrandSun picks up a puck dump by the Phantoms and passes it to Wolanin, who sees Daniel lurking on Prague's blue line and sends him with a lob. Dan is first at the puck and is one-on-one with Wallob. The veteran gets tripped from behind, but Dan has the presence of mind to chip the puck above the netminder's blockers, while hitting the deck. In the second period, Wolanin was the only player to find the back of the net and so the game was tied going into the third. Daniel brought the Wranglers a lead for the first time this match with his second of the night at the start of the third frame. GoodBrandSun intercepted a pass by Love and relays the disc to Janser who onetimes it in the crossbar. The telltale 'ding' was audible even in the nosebleed section. Prague answers with two back-to-back power play markers, before Gonçalves ties the game again with only thirty-one seconds on the clock. The Sudden Death did not bring a decision, so it was shootout time. Wolanin, Gonçalves and Janser all showed that they have nerves like steel cables and converted their attempts, while Dahl parried Godlander's shot. Janser (2g/1a), Jokinen (1g/1a) and GoodBrandSun (0g/3a) were named the three stars of the night. Dahl (.902) had the upperhand on a rather mid duel with Wallob (.892) between the pipes. Calgary's lackluster special teams prevented a regulation win in this match with the power play being useless (0/4) and the penalty killing looking like a sieve (4/7). Marcel had 0g, 0a, +1, 4 PIM (Slashing and Hooking, did not lead to goals against), 1 hit and 3sb to his name. Daniel achieved 2g, 1a, 2 PIM (Roughing, Calgary got scored against), 4 hits, 2sb and 56.60FO% 2-3 (SO) In a rematch of the first game featured in this article, the Wranglers took revenge in a 3-2 shootout victory. The Dragons were on the board early, with a power play goal within the first minute. Around the half-time mark, they increased their lead to two markers. The second period came and went without a goal being scored. In the third frame it was Gonçalves and Vladovechsenkchushkin who scored to tie the game. As is so often the case this season, the teams neutralized each other in the overtime and so the match went into shootout. Janser and GoodBrandSun converted for the Albertan team, while only Lavelle was succesful for DC. The three stars were awarded to Gonçalves (1g/1a), Vladovechsenkchushkin (1g/1a) and Dahl (40 saves). The latter (.952) also outplayed Utonium (.942) in a highclass showdown in net. Calgary was not able to convert the one power play opportunity they have had, but shut the door on five of the six penalty kill situations against them. Marcel left the ice with a 0g, 0a, +2, 2 PIM (Hooking, no change to the score) , 4 hits and 1sb record Daniel was noted with 0g, 0a, -1, 2 hits and 63.83FO% 4-5 (SO) Before this match, Wolanin was apprehensive about getting the 100th Assist for the Red,White and Black. Daniel approached him in the locker room and said to his linemate: 'No worries, I got your back, bruh.' And the Captain delivered. He scored his first hattrick this season in a 5-4 shootout win against a surprisingly feisty Riga Reign. The Latvian site was on the score board first, but Janser equalized a mere two minutes later. After a puck relay, which included all five skaters of the first line, Daniel hammered the puck into the net from the hash mark. Less than a minute later Riga went ahead again. Daniel replied with his second of the night. Justice intercepts a pass, gives the biscuit to Janser. Janser to AG, the defender to left wing Wolanin, who sees Janser high in the slot and passes to the Rotkreuz native. Dan takes the rubber disc, and buries it backhand after a spinorama around his opponent. Riga tied the game in the second period with the only goal scored. Early in the third frame, the Swiss forward strikes again. Wolanin picks up the orphaned puck and passes it to his Captain. Dan needs a few attempts, but he is always first on his own rebounds, and Riga's defence is just not able to get him out of the danger zone. So the center prevails and finally beats the netminder. Not a beauty of a goal admittedly, but luckily they count as much as highlight reel material. Riga is able to tie the match again halfway through the period. Again the Sudden Death does not determine a winner, so the players have to line up for the shootout. Daniel does not even need to show up for this as all of Riga's attempts are either thwarted by Pedersen or lack of precision and Landon scored on his attempt. Janser (3g/0a), Frenchman (1g/1a) and Wolanin (0g/3a) were given the post-match honours. Pedersen (.789) could rely on his forwards to get the coals out of the fire and could not beat Riga's Tucker Jr (.925) who showed a solid game. Calgary's power play was a no-show (0/4) but the penalty kill was immaculate (3/3). Marcel had 0g, 1a, -2 and 2sb Daniel had 3g, 0a, +2, 10 hits and 64.29FO% to his name. The brothers' stats for the current campaign read as follows: Marcel: 40gp, 2g, 26a, 28pts, +7, 52 PIM, 61 hits, 62sb, 2ppg Daniel: 40gp, 28g, 38a, 66pts, +28, 72 PIM, 166 hits, 26sb, 3gwg, 3ppg, 62.84FO%, 12 First star awards Stay tuned for further updates on the Jansers' careers. https://vhlforum.com/topic/130042-a-tale-of-two-brothers-chugging-along/ https://vhlforum.com/topic/130178-a-tale-of-two-brothers-moving-on-quickly/ https://vhlforum.com/topic/130233-a-tale-of-two-brothers-quarter-and-diming/ https://vhlforum.com/topic/130353-a-tale-of-two-brothers-a-captains-disclaimer/ https://vhlforum.com/topic/130505-a-tale-of-two-brothers-halftime-summary/ GM 290: Calgary Wranglers vs. D.C. 5. Graphic courtesy of Leandrofg (Marcel's stats/Daniel's stats) It has been a while since we last reported from our two intrepid hockey heroes. In the meantime, Calgary reached the halfway mark and we think it is a good time to catchup with some states and the Janser boys. The Wranglers are the cock on the dungheap (so to speak) and show a 24-4-8 record, with 127 goals for (league best) and 91 goals against (tied fifth in the league). The power play efficiency is at 18.87% (good for ninth in the league) while their penaltykilling shows a successrate of 84.40% (fourth in the league). Despite having physical players such as Janser and Strasmore in their ranks, the Albertan team is only 8th in hits dished and 7th in penalties suffered. The designated centers Janser and Gonçalves (who stepped up to the hashmark more than 3'000 times combined) show a successrate at the draw of 63.11% (Janser, league leader) and a respectable 58.96% (Gonçalves) respectively. This ensures that most of the time, Calgary starts the game in possession of the puck, and does not have to waste energy chasing the same. In the shots against category, the team does a good job to deny the opposition shot lanes. Only Chicago allowed less than Calgary's 1111 shots against (1005). This combined with Dahl's best saving rate since he entered the league (.928) explains, why the Wranglers tend to win more often than they lose. If you add the improved offensive output from everyone who already wore a Wranglers uniform last season, this is a recipe for success. One question mark remains, as the Canadians have still some backup games to fit in their schedule and Pedersen sofar was not able to shine in net. Alas, he needs time to grow and we are convinced that his play will improve. Wolanin and Janser have been amongst the most prolific goal scorer for most of the season and Dan even mounted the peak of the scoring race. He scores at a lower pace than last season, however he sets up Wolanin more often. It is also remarkable that all skaters show a positive +/- rating, which indicates that the second line is pitching in as well. Indeed if we look at the first forward formation compared to the second line the score is 55:44 and in game winning goals the score is 11:5. We had a chat with the Captain about his take on Calgary's outlook for the season and this is what he said: DJ: 'We are certainly in a good spot. However, we need to keep working hard and cannot be complacent. The other teams are just waiting for a sign of weakness from our squad and will certainly take advantage should we not give 100% in any given match.' JLL: 'At the moment it looks that you will need to pass the Brooks trophy on to someone else this season. Does this bother you?' DJ: 'Not as much as it probably should. I think the team's offense is in order and as long as I contribute to the tally, I do not mind who gets the scoring title. It is also of note that Landon has improved his scoring compared to last year and I have focused on the face-off's and kind of neglected to better my offensive tools. It is just natural that he would catch up in the goal department.' JLL: 'Some fans compare you and Leandro and think that the Portuguese Wonder does not play as hard as you.' DJ: 'Look, if someone plays professional hockey, they are not soft. Do I have more checks than Leandro? Absolutely. But let us not forget that Leandro is a different kind of player. He is an exceptional skater, has smooth hands and his wristshot is lethal. Gonçalves is clearly been drafted for his pure offensive talent, while I was drafted as a two-way forward. Hard work, a never-give-up mentality and let's be honest, some luck meant that I scored more than my usual point per game last season. I need to work hard for my points and I do not want it any other way. The physicality of my game fuels my passion for the sport and gives me energy. I need to be on the edge to be at my best. Leandro is more of an artist. You should see him in practice. This kid has a passion for the sport I have rarely seen and he tries out new moves every practice until he can do them blindfolded. Once he mastered one to perfection, he looks for the next one, rinse and repeat. He makes getting on the highlight reel look easy, but we know how many (sometimes frustrating) hours he spends to get there. So you could say that we both work hard for our points. It is just that my work is in the limelight during the matches, and Leandro's is during practice, when there are no cameras around.' JLL: 'Marcel has already surpassed his last season's points total. Any thoughts you would like to share?' DJ: 'Of course I am happy for him. He is very dedicated and more adjusted to the VHL's level. He will never be an offensive star on the blue line like GoodBrandSun or Johansson. But he is a reliable shutdown defender, who is not taking unnecessary risks.' JLL: 'Okay that are all the questions I had. Thanks for your time.' DJ: 'My pleasure.' 6. Okay our family recipe includes eggs (obviously), powdered sugar, cream, vanilla sugar and Kirsch (Cherry liquor)
  7. Just because you do not want to be called Wranglerssuck13 for the next month or two
  8. Is there any eggnog which is non-alcoholic? In Germany and Switzerland if you speak of eggnog (or 'Eierlikör') it is always alcoholic... will certainly listen to that drunkcast
  9. what does it say about me when I first read from the Urinals? Probably getting old, that's what... Great write up Bojo.
  10. Daniel Janser LW/C 5'8'', 183lbs S81 8th overall pick by the Calgary Wranglers We already learned how Daniel was a rather late bloomer for playing hockey himself. However, he went to EVZ matches with his dad from an early age and as often as possible. The heroes of his childhood were Kenny Yaremchuk, Dino Kessler, John Fritsche, Wes Walz and Bill McDougall. But above all Misko Antisin. The Swiss-Canadian forward with Russian heritage was the epitome of a gritty scorer for young Daniel. The Vancouver born forward also carried a Swiss passport and did not count against the import player limitations in the Swiss league. It was after him that Daniel styled his own way of interpreting the forward role. EVZ logo during Daniel's childhood And when NHL-legend Claude Lemieux decided in the autumn of his career to play for Zug, Daniel just HAD to attend every game and buy the Jersey. As time went by, he was discovered by a scout of EVZ who saw how hockey players tried to intimidate and bully the minuscule and sinewy guy who played pond hockey with his friends. But he twisted and turned, bobbed and weaved, braked and accelerated so that they could rarely land their hits on him. He used their size and weight against them. So he was invited to join the local team for a tryout. When he arrived, the coaches asked him: 'What position do you play?' To which Daniel laconically replied: 'You tell me, coach.' They soon found out that he was as good as his word and could play on all skating position, as his mind was at least as agile as his skating. Changing from Left Wing to Right Wing was easy for him as he was (and still is) ambidextrous, which explains why his backhand shot is so lethal and why he can 'fish' pucks from the 'wrong' side. His versatility was the team's blessing but his curse, as there were always designated specialized players on every position and he would fill in for whoever could not make the line up. Once he qualified for college, he was drafted into the army and his hockey playing games came to a grinding stop, as he served his country for a full year. After that, his brother and he decided to go abroad to Canada, to learn a different kind of hockey and to see wether they can prevail as rather short players and find a role in the Northamerican market. So they signed up for the first ever JST and were enlisted into the Brigade. Their play peaked the interest of the Mississauga Hounds and they were drafted alongside. Mid-season the brothers got traded to the Reapers. Dan finished with 40g/40a in 72 games and draw attention from several renowned Franchises such as Seattle, Helsinki and Calgary from the VHL and Bratislava, Cologne, Rome and Istanbul from the VHLE. Ultimately the Oslo Storm of the VHLE and Calgary secured his rights, both in the first round of their respective draft. Since he was drafted into the VHL, Daniel's goal has become to join fellow Swiss Scott Boulet and Scotty Campbell in the HOF and the former in the Calgary rafters. And his first three seasons did not look like he would get there. He was a solid PPG player and reliable in his defensive duties, but nothing was screaming 'super star'. However, Dan just kept on grinding in the torture chamber, making extra shifts in team practice and take a leaf out of more experienced players' book to better himself. For his efforts and his natural leadership, he was named alternate captain in his sophomore year and the year after and captain for the seasons 85 and 86. one of Dan's idols, Scott Boulet S85 would be the breakthrough season for Janser. He upped his goal scoring by 50% from 34 in the previous season to 51, securing him the Kevin Brooks Trophy. His assists went up 40% from 41 to 57, which helped him also winning the Mike Szatkowski Award. Next to a first team all-star nomination he was also voted by his peers for the Brett Slobodzian Trophy for the most outstanding player in the league. But his season was not only blessed from a professional point of view. During that season he also met his girlfriend Bonnie Ferguson. They moved in together and he has already met her family back in Glasgow. S86 looks very promising as well. The Wranglers are at the top of their conference and indeed the league after thirty matches played. Not to a small extent thank to the Swiss veteran, who is also on top of his peers in the points race. Daniel never trusts his own success though and he just works out incessantly and hopes he is not falling from a cliff. Let's see whether it will be enough to make his dream come true to lift the cup in the Red/White/Black uniform and to enter the Holy Halls of the VHL HOF.
  11. PC for the week ending 4th December: 1. What do you think of the recent change in the career tasks? 2. Out of the 5 losses Cologne suffered, two were against us. Are we now their nemesis? Elaborate. 3. What do you think will it take us to get into a playoff spot? 4. In what areas is your player performing as you imagined it (or better)? 5. Where is room for improvement on your player? 6. what was the last hockey game you watched (on site or on television)?
  12. Hmm looks like there is a cup win in Daniel Janser's future
  13. Graphic courtesy of Leandrofg (Marcel's stats/Daniel's stats) Daniel asked our newspaper to publish the following, uncensored and unedited disclaimer and we are happy to oblige. 'I just read yet another newspaper, where the question was raised whether Calgary's alternate Captain AirRig GoodBrandSun is too soft and a defensive liability, and frankly, I am sick and tired of it. I see it as my duty as his Captain and team mate to step up for my brother-in-arms because he is too goodnatured to do so himself. There are few individuals that I met that show an equal determination as AirRig. He is tied last to leave the ice and at times he annoys me when we play the 'no, you first'-game when it comes down to go to the locker room after practice. He is never happy about his performance and complacency does not exist in his vocabulary. Just recently after a seven assists performance in three games, he was breaking his head that he only had one hit in said games. I have you know that no-one of us Wranglers would like to be on the receiving end of one of AG's checks. Not me, not Strasmore. None. In my opinion a check is the last ressort, a means to gain the puck or prevent a goal, when everything else failed. And while I appreciate that it belongs to hockey and that boneshattering checks make for a good highlight reel, I prefer if the players in my team never get into the position, when they need to check. And AirRig is a very skillful and intelligent defender who is hardly ever out of position and since he improved his skating, he can convert his Hockey-IQ on the ice. Further and in addition, GoodBrandSun is unfortunate in that respect that he plays in a line with Stras and me. At the moment, I have the highest FO% in the league, which means we do not need to chase the puck that often, which of course gives AirRig less opportunities to lay in with his body. Phil is the stereotypical shutdown physical defender, for whom neither big nor small player exist, but only checking opportunities. I myself never got the winger gene out of me and am most of the time the first in the forecheck to either knock the puck lose or force the opposition to make errors. Lastly, AirRig does exactly what the GM expects of him: to quarterback our offense; be it in power play or even numbered. There is a reason why he is paired with Strasmore. To take the physical aspect out of his to-do list and focus to orchestrate our game. Were he to play in the same line as Leandro, who does not play the same uncouth type of game as I do, and be separated from Phil, his checking numbers would skyrocket. I invite any doubters to visit a training session and gear up. So that first-hand experience can be had, as to how much of a 'push-over' and 'softie' AirRig really is.' https://vhlforum.com/topic/130003-a-tale-of-two-brothers-a-new-hope/ https://vhlforum.com/topic/130042-a-tale-of-two-brothers-chugging-along/ https://vhlforum.com/topic/130178-a-tale-of-two-brothers-moving-on-quickly/ https://vhlforum.com/topic/130233-a-tale-of-two-brothers-quarter-and-diming/
  14. Barzal is running the show at the moment.
  15. Have not seen ClueGlue as a potential reason for chicago doing better than expected.
  16. I would not be worried to take Phil 1OA every given time, just a stud and overall cool fellow
  17. it has become a family tradition... but seriously, for a low tpe defensive minded defender 2 assists are more of an achievement than scoring two irrelevant goals for last years Brooks winner... I get along very well with my lil bro and am happy for any kind of success he has in this league (and elsewhere for that matter)
  18. Graphic courtesy of Leandrofg (Marcel's stats/Daniel's stats) The Janser boys have played two games in the meantime and without further ado, we present herewith our summaries of the respective matches. 4-3 (SO) In our first featured match, the Wranglers met the stars in a tight game, which the Albertan team won in the shootout 4-3. Gonçalves brought Calgary the early lead with his power play marker. Los Angeles tied the game quickly, before Wolanin reinstated the one goal lead. The second period went to the Californians as they scored the sole goal to tie the game anew. In the third frame, Gonçalves with his second of the night gave Calgary the edge, but LA would not have it and for the third time equalized the score. Neither team was able to get the better of the opposite netminder and so the match went to shootout. Here it was the Captain himself who was the only player to convert his attempt with a highlight reel-worthy Forsberg deke and bring victory for his colours. The three stars were awarded to Gonçalves (2g/0a), Peepants (0g/2a) and Miglaskems (1g/0a). Dahl (.870) had a one of his weaker nights in this running campaign while Vandelay (.929) was on top of his game. Calgary's powerplay was sub-par (1/6) but their penalty kill unit did an immaculate job (1/1). Marcel had 0g, 1a, +0 and 1sb Daniel was noted with 0g, 1a, -1, 3 hits and 61.36FO% 4-0 In a demonstration of dominance, the Wranglers shut the door on the Titans in a 4-0 victory. The first remarkable thing happened at 11:15 minutes into the game when the crowd witnessed a polysportive event, as Wolanin dropped one too many 'Yo Mama' remark against Young and a line brawl ensued. Apart from Wolanin/Young, Strasmore/Johnson and Janser/Cholo were the pairings. Landon picked a taller and heavier player for his fight and lost the bout accordingly. Strasmore and Janser held their own against their respective opponent. At least Landon had enough hot water at his disposal and also did not have to queue for the hot tub, as the officials sent him packing for instigating. Later on, Vladovechsenkchushkin scored the only marker in the first period for a one goal lead for the Red/White/Black, with 45 seconds to spare. In the middle frame it was 'I do not take prisoners' Strasmore on the man advantage with his first goal of the season to extend to a two goal seperation. In the third period, Janser delivered the dagger with a brace of goals. The first came on a rush when Gonçalves carried the puck into the Wranglers offensive zone (he took Wolanin's place on the wing in the first line), pass back to the blueline to GoodBrandSun, who relays the disc to Dan. The Center gives the disc Gonçalves who one-times the feed but misses the net. Janser picks up the loose puck and shoots from the hashmark, however his attempt goes wide as well. However, he is first on the orphaned disc and the second effort sticks. It is not a pretty goal, but it counts. For the second goal, Marcel intercepts a pass from McMuffin and immediately sends Strasmore with the biscuit the other way. Phil enters the Helsinki zone unopposed (well they tried) and sees Dan lurking in the slot. A nice saucer pass to his Captain and the Swiss roofs it backhand. Janser (2g/0a), Gonçalves (0g/2a) and Vladovechsenkchushkin (1g/1a) were named the three stars and we think that Strasmore got FISTED ANALLY BY A CIRCUS MONKEY to not be in that circle. Dahl with his shutout was also not considered, alas his team did the heavy lifting and only allowed 14 shots for the whole match. He was of course the winner in the netminder duel against a solid Nu (.902). Calgary's power play was good (1/3) and the penalty kill obviously without reproach. Marcel was reported with 0g, 2a, +2, 2 PIM (Highsticking, no effect on the score) and 3sb Daniel had 2g, 0a, +2, 5 PIM (Fighting Major, hence no power play), 4 hits and a 81.08% success rate at the draw. Calgary remains a force to be reckoned with and stays on top of their conference for the time being, sporting a 6 win streak. Here are the stats for our intrepid Hockey exports: Marcel: 18gp, 2g, 10a, 12pts, +1, 22 PIM, 28 hits, 29sb, 2ppg Daniel: 18gp, 12g, 15a, 27pts, +9, 35 PIM, 73 hits, 13sb, 1gwg, 2ppg, 61.08FO%, 5 First Star awards We will revert with updates as soon as possible.
