  1. Graphic courtesy of Leandrofg (Marcel's stats/Daniel's stats) It has been a while since we last reported from our Swiss Hitmen. In the interim both regular seasons have finalized and we are happy to be the bearer of good tidings in that both the Wranglers as well as the Iron Eagles went into the post season. The good news is even better in that Vasteras is leading its series against Cologne 2-0 and Calgary swept Toronto in the Wild Card games. As a summary to the Jansers regular season, lets start with Marcel. He scored seven goals (the fewest in his three seasons with the Swedes), 41 assists for 48 points. He halved his time in the sin bin compared to last season (59 PIM vs 116 PIM). The young defender is now Vasteras' all time leader for games played (216) and shots blocked (414) in the regular season (only the present incarnation of Vasteras considered). Surprisingly, he is also fourth in points and fifth for game winners (tied with future team mate Gonçalves), which is not bad for a defensive minded back. Here are his stats for the past regular season/(career totals for Vasteras): 72(216) gp, 7(29) g, 41(119) a, 48(148) pts, +17(-14), 59(212) PIM, 80(226) hits, 131(414) sb, 0(8) gwg, 5(18) ppg, 1(3) first stars As for Daniel, he set new personal records for goals scored (34), points (75), PIM (119), hits (237), hattricks (3) and game winners (10). The hatties (tied first) and the game winners (tied third) are amongst the best in the league. Further and in addition, the forward premiered in the S84 all-star games, where he dressed for NA playing alongside the likes of Kotkakoivu, Idaho, Atreides and Johansson to name but a few. He scored three goals and five assists. His team mate Saku scored ten goals and twelve apples, the highest scoring player of either team in this turkey shoot. However, the jury in their infinite wisdom gave the MVP to Duncan Idaho (8g/9a). Here are the full stats for Daniel for the S84 regular season: 72gp, 34g, 41a, 75pts, +26, 119 PIM, 237 hits, 23sb, 10gwg, 4ppg, FO% 58.69, 9 first stars Daniel missed better figures due to a streaky second half of the season, where there were weekends where he would not score at all, just to get a hattrick in the next one. This is atypical for the young Swiss as he was a solid PPG player throughout his stint with Calgary. Some of the inconsistency could be allocated to the influx of new players and finding the chemistry between the players as well as changing back and forth from the wing to the center, depending on the team's needs. The Wranglers as a team kind of showed the same picture, with a lack of consistency and rather underwhelming special team performance (15th in power play efficiency and 10th in killing off penalties). We will revert with updates during the playoffs as soon as possible and hope for a deep run for both teams, who enter the race as a dark horse. https://vhlforum.com/topic/123637-a-tale-of-two-brothers-one-fifth-done/ https://vhlforum.com/topic/123675-a-tale-of-two-brothers-a-crease-oddity/ https://vhlforum.com/topic/123872-a-tale-of-two-brothers-past-the-third/ https://vhlforum.com/topic/124004-a-tale-of-two-brothers-approaching-the-half-way-mark/ https://vhlforum.com/topic/124101-a-tale-of-two-brothers-hot-in-the-city/
  2. The thing is if we look long and hard enough, EVERYTHING can be offensive to someone. I think Vancouver was 'Quebec Meute' before and was disbanded/relocated/rebranded because of the clear offensiveness of being a Quebec based franchise (just kidding, I know it is about the ultra right movement called 'Meute'). One could without much imagination make a case that Cologne Express (especially with the logo they have) is far more offensive than the Istanbul franchise.
  3. 1. We will make the post season, I have no doubt in my mind and from there I am confident we could even go the full nine yards. 2. Maybe Nico Pearce as he was in the same draft class as me and still beats me on the TPE every damn week (or so I feel) 3. Janser is being social at home, playing board games with the rookies in his home (or at least that is the official version) 4. I think it is pretty active with even Phil popping in when his time allows. 5. I was not aware of this. It looks like the league to accommodate recreates who want to fast-train into the VHL but what do I know? 6. I certainly do not wish to die tomorrow., but living forever seems dull as well. I plead the fifth on this one.
  4. Same with a win against the aces.
  5. In addition to ente's pitch above you can add #nepotismworksforhoundstoo on your quote. @tinafrombobsburgers
  6. In addition to ente's pitch you can add #nepotismworksforhoundstoo to your reply. @Ricer13
  7. 1. I stopped celebrating birthdays a long time ago. 2. Maybe I could come to terms with Calgary cowboys. 3. I think it is important to get new members in. After all the vets stuck around for so long they seem to like the experience. 4. I am sure he would be a competent hooked. (In rugby take your mind out of the gutter, geez.) 5. Play it at your own time, seek for advice and make your decisions based on same. 6. I think so far the ASG is the pinnacle of Janser's career.
  8. Unlikely scenario, but worth considering: Maybe someone else submitted the same question but somehow you only came second (I could add here some lame joke about you being used to that, but I won't )?
  9. Gee @Gustav even for your longwinded standard this is excessive. Kudos to the grind and determination to finish your Magnum Opus (please get a life, you make the rest of us look bad).
  10. So as a relatively new member I cannot share memories going further back than August last year. However, during my relatively short stint a few things have happened: I was here for the inaugural season of the JST and played for the Brigade together with my brother (very good way to catch all the users creating after the TDL and to give people a swing at GMing for the first time). We had a good time and already got a feeling what it will be like in the VHLM. The grind, (in the best sense of the word), the anticipation for the sims, the excitement/disappointment when you got the sims (depending on your/your teams performance. Another milestone during my time was, when the VHLE was given its maiden voyage. I personally think it is a great transition into the VHL from the VHLM. Let's be honest with 250 TPE you are nothing but a snack for the likes of the Vinny Detroits and Druss Deathwalkers out there who are in their prime and kick ass and take your lunch money. So my take is, that it is more meaningful and satisfying to compete with people around your caliber and make a contribution to your team's success rather than being a liability and only being one teeny-tiny step above a bot. And it gives you one more opportunity to get to know new users or share a locker room with long 'lost' friends again. 'Multi'-Tasking Around the Christmas season 2021/22 there was a sudden surge of users having multiple accounts (upto seven) and updating all of them (where did they find the time?). The most harmful to the community arguably being the notorious Kachur/Horcrux entity. I also was in the front seat when the Meta-curse was lifted. First I was lamenting how much worse my player will be (sorry @Beketov), but now I just accept that I have to grind harder to get one point more in defence at the end of the day. Further and in addition, the ProAm tournament was brought back from the dead. Another off-season event, but this one being open to literally everyone (even retirees on their rocking chairs) and one I am looking forward to. Now let's see what was fashionable when I was fifteen, shall we? Going down memory lane. Bill Clinton (yeah right BILL not Hillary) was elected as the POTUS. In the Summer Olympics in Barcelona, the first incarnation of the Dream Team around 'Magic' Johnson and 'Air' Jordan mops the floor with their opponents. In Europe there was still a gazillion currencies in circulation and not the artificially created Euro (which was more fun for all the people collecting different bills from different countries). South Africa votes to abandon Apartheid In L.A. people start rioting when four police officers who abused Rodney King were found innocent by the court. They riots last six days and have a toll of 53 lifes. Microsoft releases Windows 3.1. 'Basic Instinct' is the must-see movie for adolescent young adults. The SNES is finally available in Germany. 'Rage against the Machine' publish their first album. It is also the founding year of Blink-182, Hanson and the Wu-Tang-Clan. Denmark enters the Euro-Cup as a replacement team for Yugoslavia and wins the damn thing. Erik Gudbranson is born (@Rhynex Entertainment). So are Neymar, Miley Cyrus and Daisy Ridley. In exchange Benny Hill, Marlene Dietrich and Willy Brandt shed their mortal coil. To be claimed week ending 31.07.2022
  11. Black Betty by RamJam? Iconic song
  12. Why is this mutually exclusive? I think when you lose a game, you should have the satisfaction that the opposition had to pay the iron price for their win.
  13. plan B is to bet on you for the Funk Trophy next season
  14. Okay I understand the Thomas O'Malley reference and Remy LeBeau is a given from your credits (alas cannot match a render to it). But who are the others? @OrbitingDeath
  15. Hi @thecaringbear, Welcome to the VHL. I am the GM of the Mississauga Hounds and @Ente2997 is my AGM. We would love you to join us and can offer you bottom six minutes at the moment, but depending on your development, you can get more ice time. Mississauga is a contender this season and 1st in our conference. So we hope for a deep playoff run. The Hounds encourage locker room activity and the management and the Alumni are always willing to help to develop your player. We encourage you to build the player as you imagine him to be, but also offer assistance if you are at a loss how to achieve your preferred build. If you want to be part of our team and we could attract your interest, please quote this message and add #releasethehounds. We will send you an invitation to our discord channel (this is not mandatory but helps enormously with communication) and a contract which kindly accept in order to join us. Whatever team you decide to join, we wish you best of luck and more importantly lots of fun with Care Bear.

  17. it was a pool billiard goal not unlike the single bullet that allegedly killed JFK.... on a more serious note, it was late and I somehow missed the fact that this was a back up game, mea culpa
  18. Graphic courtesy of Leandrofg (Marcel's stats/Daniel's stats) Some hockey happened since we last reported from our intrepid journeymen. Hence, we will not spend any more of our valued readers' precious time with any unnecessarily elongated prelude, and cut to the chase. 6-1 In a match which can only be described as cruelty to endangered species, Vasteras lost against Istanbul in a 6-1 defeat. The Red Wolves scored the only goal of the first period five minutes into the game. And because scoring feel so good, they continued to do so with three unanswered goals in the middle frame only one of which was a power play goal. In the third, the Ottomans scored two further goal, one being a power play marker again. With only 28 seconds left in the game Maple spoiled a potential shutout for the Istanbul netminder. Busser (4g/1a), Bond (0g/4a) and 2st (1g/1a) were named three stars of the game. Jute (.838) had a tough job against Young (.964) and did not see any land in the process. The Vasteras special teams were atrocious and neither the power play (0/8) nor the penalty kill (1/3) covered themselves in glory. Marcel was noted with a 0g, 1a, -2, 4 PIM (Holding and Tripping, the latter leading to a goal against), 1 hit and 1sb. 5-3 In the next game, Fortuna smiled on the Eagles in their 5-3 win against the Express. Maple in even strength and Love on the power play were responsible for Vasteras' 2-0 lead into the first intermission. Cologne then pulled one back only to be scored against by back to back goals from Puk and Mathias. But before the frame was finished the Germans came back with the final goal of the period to make it a two goal game. Shortly after relaunch, Cologne cut the lead to one. In the dying minutes of the game they went all in and pulled the goalie. That is when Bridgers delivered the dagger with a shorthanded goal into the orphaned net. For three stars, the jury settled for Puk (1g/2a), Mathias (1g/2a) and Bridgers (1g/1a). Jute (.909) had an edge over Freeze (.905) in net. This time the power play was good (1/2) and the box play okay (3/4). Marcel had 0g, 0a, +1, 2 PIM (Hooking, no goal scored against) and 1sb to his name. 2-4 In their perennial struggle for dominance in Sweden the Eagles got an other notch in their stock when the beat the Vikings 4-2. Maple and Cat scored two power play goals for a 2-0 lead into the second period. Young with the first even strength marker in this game extended the league to three. Stockholm then cut the lead back to two goals with a power play goal before the period was done. Puk reinstated the three goal lead, just to have it decreased again three seconds before the final horn. Mathias (0g/4a), Puk (1g/1a) and Young (1g/1a) were given the post match honours. Jute (.905) was a smidge better between the pipes than Clark (.895). The Iron Eagles' power play was pretty efficient (2/4) and their box play did not allow too much (3/4). Marcel left the ice with a 0g, 0a, -1 and 2 hits record. 2-4 Vasteras faced Rome in a 4-2 loss. The match was pretty much done and dusted when the Gladiators scored three consecutive goals in the first period, all on even strength. Cat and Maple scored in the second period and made it a one goal game. Alas, Rome scored the only goal in the third period and took the two points with them. Man (2g/0a), Lambert (0g/2a) and TheGreat (1g/1a) were named three stars of the night. Jute (.897) was not able to drag his team to victory and had to concede to Dragon (.951). Vasteras' power play was inexistant (0/7) but the penalty kill shut the door (6/6). Marcel logged 0g, 1a, +0 and 2 sb. 7-3 In a game where Calgary faced the arguably best team of the league in Warsaw, they had to concede 7-3. It actually started well, when Tessier opened the score. But the result would not stand as the Predators replied with two markers of their own, one of which in the man advantage. Reinhart would follow up with a power play marker of his own, before Warsaw scored an other brace, with one of them being again a power play goal. The second frame started with a further Predator power play goal, before Kotkakoivu scored one himself. The ray of hope would not last as the Polish team would just casually score their fourth power play marker of the game. The first period felt like a dry spell after the scoring bonanza in the previous two frames, as Warsaw scored the sole goal and yes, you guessed right, it was another marker on the man advantage. It will surprise absolutely no-one in learning that all three places on the podium were given to Predators with Marner (1g/2a), Trunov (1g/2a) and DeGroot (1g/1a). Wumbo (.936) did not have to exert himself to get the better of Dahl (.837). The Wranglers' power play was ok with two conversions on eight attempts, but the box play can only be labeled as an utter shitshow with only two of seven penalties being killed off. This reminds us of the early 2021/2022 Vancouver Canucks. Daniel was noted with 0g, 0a, +0, 4 hits, 1sb and 50.00FO% 4-5 (OT) The Wranglers crossed blades with the Riga Reign in a close battle and lost 5-4 in overtime. Riga came out of the locker room hot and scored three consecutive goals, two of them on the power play. GoodBrandSun then pulled one back with a marker on the man advantage. The second period saw a power play marker for both teams, with Reinhart finding the back of the net for the Red, White and Black. The third frame went to the Canadians with Tessier and Janser scoring for their team. Jokinen intercepts a pass and passes to Janser, the Swiss forward picks up speed and enters the Riga zone, while Dahl is pulled from the crease for the extra attacker. A short shock as Dan loses the puck, but he immediately regains it and passes to Wolanin, who loses no time on the release, but hits one of many bodies in front of the net. Janser picks it up, still on full speed, circles the net and scores a wrap around goal by forcing the puck seemingly through Reinhart's blocker. The game is tied 1:22 minutes before the end of regulation time. This time the Sudden Death deserves its name as Riga scores in the first minute of the extra time for the game winner. Johnston (2g/1a), Kaprizov (2g/1a) and GoodBrandSun (1g/2a) were named three stars of the game. Dahl (.865) had the bitter end against the Riga back up (.892). Calgary's power play was excellent (2/3) but the penalty kill was subpar (3/6). Daniel had 1g, 1a, -1, 3 hits, 1sb and 66.67FO% to show for his efforts. 1-3 In the first NA match we feature in this issue, Calgary loses to Chicago 3-1. Janser opened the score on a power play. Dahl picks up the dumped puck and passes it to Tessier. Luc relays the disc to Janser who steamrolls along the boards and enters the Riga zone with speed. As he draws the Chicago defenders out, he passes back to the blue line to Reinhart. While the biscuit travels to the point, Daniel assumes his position in the slot to screen the shot. Asher let's loose a canon from the blue line and the Swiss gets a piece of it for a neat deflection, which leaves Gaming no chance to react in time. Unfortunately that is all she wrote for the Wranglers and Chicago scores three unanswered goals. For the three stars Bob (1g/1a), Gaming (31 saves) and Skates (1g/1a) were elected. Dahl (.923) had a decent night but Gaming (.969) was just better. Calgary's power play was respectable (1/3) the box play was not (1/2). Daniel left the rink with 1g, 0a, -2, 1 hit, 1sb and 40.00% success rate on the hashmarks. 5-1 In yet an other encounter against a European team, the Wranglers hosted the London United for a cup of tea in a 5-1 win. Calgary started hot with Gonçalves and Janser scoring within 20 seconds of each other in the first two minutes of the game. Kotkakoivu knocks the puck off of former Wrangler Fizzlebeef Jr, Wolanin picks up the orphaned disc and passes it on to Jokinen. The veteran defender relays the biscuit to Janser, who one times it. Saku deflects the shot but Pearce gets piece of it at the cost of a rebound. Same is hoovered up by Dan and he buries it topshelf. In the second period, Janser scores again after a puck relay with Jokinen and Maloish, after a won face off by Kotkakoivu. This time he beats the netminder via the post. London pulled back on goal, before Janser scores his third of the night, this time on a power play. Tessier gains Janser's blocked shot and passes to Reinhart, who one times the disc. Pearce parries, but cannot hold on to the puck, the Swiss forward is at the right time at the right place and beats the Greek goaltender through the five hole. Hatty for Janser, his second of the season. Wolanin raises the score by one before the end of the second frame for the final score. Daniel (3g/0a), Jokinen (0g/2a) and Kotkakoivu (0g/2a) were named the three best players of the match. Dahl (.966) emitted more confidence than the shaky Pearce (.886) in this netminder duel. Calgary's power play was okay (1/4) and the box play units shut the door (5/5). Daniel had 3g, 0a, +3, 2 PIM (Elbowing, no goal scored against), 3 hits and 80.00FO%. The Jansers' stats for the season thus far: Marcel: 38gp, 5g, 19a, 24pts, +1, 36 PIM, 34 hits, 65sb, 4ppg, 1 first star Daniel: 38gp, 20g, 23a, 43pts, +14, 49 PIM, 111 hits, 12sb, 7gwg, 3ppg, 54.48FO% and 6 first stars We will report from our Swiss hockey exports in due course. https://vhlforum.com/topic/123637-a-tale-of-two-brothers-one-fifth-done/ https://vhlforum.com/topic/123675-a-tale-of-two-brothers-a-crease-oddity/ https://vhlforum.com/topic/123872-a-tale-of-two-brothers-past-the-third/ https://vhlforum.com/topic/124004-a-tale-of-two-brothers-approaching-the-half-way-mark/ GM 138: Istanbul Red Wolves vs. Vasteras Iron Eagles (vhlportal.com) GM 141: Vasteras Iron Eagles vs. Cologne Express (vhlportal.com) GM 146: Stockholm Vikings vs. Vasteras Iron Eagles (vhlportal.com) GM 150: Vasteras Iron Eagles vs. Rome Gladiators (vhlportal.com) GM 277: Warsaw Predators vs. Calgary Wranglers (vhlportal.com) GM 284: Calgary Wranglers vs. Riga Reign (vhlportal.com) GM 292: Calgary Wranglers vs. Chicago Phoenix (vhlportal.com) GM 299: London United vs. Calgary Wranglers (vhlportal.com)
