I hear that train a comin', it's rolling round the bend, and I ain't seen the sunshine, since I don't when....I'm stuck in Riga prison and time keeps dragging on....

Riga a prison? Maybe. But I totally get this decision, it's why I was so shocked you were ever testing. I was hoping though that you testing actually meant you were looking for a change of scenery, but it's always nice to feel wanted when you test in FA so I can't blame you there. Good luck with Riga.

After discussion with Romanes, we debated on a system that encourages new members to not be so introverted and not be afraid to post on the VHL. Apparently, this is something a lot of people struggle with and it costs us tons of members. So here we go!

Are you introverted? Are you scared of the VHL? Well CHECK this thread out! We aren't scary. We want to hear your opinions even if we disagree with them. We aren't elitist, the structure of the VHL can come across that way sometimes...but we love new people. Do you like Pokemon? Good for you! I'm sure somewhere here someone else likes it. Muffins likes it, hell he even did a Let's Play for it where the audience could contribute.

Do you like League of Legends? Great! Your crazy but Jericho, Mike, Streetlight and bunch of other people play that game. Go talk with them. Go to the League of Legends thread, you'll find some fun stuff.

Like real video games? Sandro is a baller, METIS only plays Call of Duty but hey if your one of "those" types go for it. Go to the video game thread and rant and stuff. Have some fun.

WHATEVER YOU LIKE WE GOT THE THREAD FOR YOU! If we don't? Then create it, be the spark in the discussion.

Discussion isn't just off topic either. You can easily join in the discussion bashing inactive GM's, calling Vasteras garbage, ragging on Diamond_Ace for overpaying or one of the many other millions of topics that go on. Chat Victor  or Sterling for amazing league history. Chat up Jardy to learn how to farm while drunk while driving while somehow still being able to fail at rigging at sim. Chat with Higgins about the east coast. THEIR SO MUCH GOING ON!

In the end you can tell that the VHL is a happening place. There is no reason to be afraid of us. Don't speak good english? Boubabi is French, RomanesEuntDomus is German and we have countless other foreign members. Learn how to speak the language better with one of them.

Ultimately, there are tons of memes and other things going on in the VHL to be apart of. So get involved, and pretty soon you will be insulted, loved, your posts will be liked, you'll experience the drama, and you'll have a laugh as you become a member of the esteemed VHL community! TADA!

Devise got a reaction from Da Trifecta in Board of Governors State of The Address (Seasonal)
Hello everyone. After some discussion about this with members, and in the BoG we agree'd that as team, the BoG could be a bit more transparent then we were being. Therefore every off season I'll give a brief little update on what the BoG has worked on the past season and what could be discussed next season. Without further adieu, here we go.

During Season 39, on top of the usual work load of determining and voting Hall of Fame ballots the BoG had some discussion on changes that you ended up seeing get implemented throughout the season. Among those changes, some of the VHLM changes were implemented. Expect more VHLM changes to roll out over the next couple seasons as we all agree on what we think should or shouldn't be done. We covered a lot from the VHLM such as the waiver process, the lottery, and a GM review process. We recognize that the VHLM is probably the most tinkered with part of the VHL, but as the entry point for new members it generally will be the case.

Discussions and test sims happened on STHS V2 and how it may fit into the VHL scheme. I can report that the probability of us ever implementing STHS V2 is very slim. Even with tons of adjusting and tests with our full roster it was very difficult to normalize the statistics to a pace that would be usual for this league.

After the player store got restructured last off season, we continue to discuss possibilities for contract carry over or extensions. We realize that people have a bit less options on what to spend on in their final season.

We continue to discuss more options that would highlight newer and prominent members in the league. The magazine has had some adjustments with that, with covers and what not. The consensus from us was that the "new post" feature that the chat system can use should be used more often when interesting things such as the mag posted.

There was some discussion on the realism versus the flexibility of VHL training camp. At the moment there are no changes planned for that, however the discussion can continue.

Two unnamed teams were analyzed both for GM quality, and franchise quality. Keep in mind the BoG is not the only deciding factor in replacing GM's or relocating teams or really anything to that effect. However I can say discussions were had on the state of two different teams, just as a method of ensuring every franchise in the VHL has the opportunity to succeed. Another idea that had some quick discussion before being implemented was the Player Card Crew.

Heading into next season, the World Cup comes back next off season and we had some changes to it last time out. We had a Team World and a Team Merc last time out, and that'll be discussed before it is decided if it will continue. Another thing that I'm sure we will continue to work on next season is equal opportunity in the league for every method of point task. Whether it is extra activities or league jobs ensuring that those who do media spots, graphics, and radio/podcast all have the same opportunities is a priority.

That about wraps it up. I'd like to encourage all members who have questions or ideas to the BoG to send them to a BoG member. While everything that gets sent may not get posted, we have examples of some discussions/ideas that were presented by people outside the BoG that did in fact make a difference. So we appreciate your guys feedback. Thanks for your read, and enjoy Season 40 everyone!

Head to this page, you can also find it pinned in the announcements section for a current list of the BoG members!

Hello! The second announcement of the 40th anniversary VHL celebrations is here!

A while back I posted a 590 which listed teams of Hall of Famers based on their generations. I then posted that it might be a cool idea to hold a tournament between the S18 era and the post-S18 era. Since it was my idea, I have since managed to implement it. Glorious! So, who's involved?

    ---

    S18 era

Jardy Bunclewirth - Markus Strauss - Cam Fowler
Jukka Hakkinen - Lars Berger - Anton Brekker
Tarik Saeijs - Phil Gerrard - Mathias Chouinard*

    Adam Schultz - Japinder Singh
    James Bencharski - David Walcott

    Aidan Shaw
    Daisuke Kanou
    Jakob Kjeldsen*

    * - Not inducted into Hall of Fame

    Post-S18 era

Tukka Reikkinen - Leeroy Jenkins - Pavel Koradek
Volodymyr Rybak - Alexander Chershenko - Jarvis Baldwin
David Smalling - Phil Rafter - Ansgar Snijider

    Daniel Braxton - Ryan Sullivan
    Mitch Higgins* - Clark Marcellin*

    Alexander Labatte
    CAL G
    Benjamin Glover

    * - Not inducted into Hall of Fame

    ---

More in-depth information about the players involved will be coming your way shortly in a specially designed subforum in the Hall of Fame section. I also intend to use my doubles historical Media Spot to profile this tournament.

The tournament will be a best-of-seven series starting on Monday, with one game simmed every day by our own Mitch Higgins. In before the post-S18 team wins.

Furthermore, we're going to experiment with live play-by-plays for this tournament, i.e. post-by-post text commentary of the game based on the sim file. Let me know in this thread or through PM or IM if you are interested in doing this. Ideally, these would be done later in the day, so in the hours starting about now, after Higgins sims in the mornings. And yes, TPE will be had from doing PBPs.

    ---

If you are a newer member you will hopefully enjoy learning and seeing some of the greatest players in VHL history or more specifically in the past 20ish seasons. If you're involved with one or even two players, well you should definitely love this.

A 25 percent chance of winning for each team would be a complete randomization Romanes. As there are only 4 teams, so even if you drew names out of a fucking hat each team still has a 1/4 chance of being drawn, ergo a 25% chance.

I agree with losing the second draw, but I still say tanking teams shouldn't get rewarded. Since we have implemented this new system over the system of tanking teams being rewarded league parity has grown. There is no reason not to promote activity and growth on your team. This philosophy means that even though you know your going to miss the playoffs, like Cologne did this season, you can still go out and use your assets to acquire players, and build a solid team while also having just as much of a chance at getting that top pick as the rest of the non playoff teams.

If the argument is, well what about the Toronto/Quebec with barely any players, how is it fair to them? They put themselves in the situations they are in. Quebec traded all of it's assets for Kellinger, picked up free agents and won a Cup. Toronto just finished a near dynasty level run with Remy and a solid group of players. They kept on competing while they still had assets until several had to retire. Again, teams shouldn't be rewarded for making all or nothing trades. Because then they aren't all or nothing. Why not just trade all my draft picks on the last year I'm competing to overstack my team? Oh I don't win? Whatever, next year i'll win like 4 games since I have no players and get a huge chance of winning first overall. That type of system doesn't encourage activity, competitiveness, or parity. What we have now does

I don't see why NA somehow has a hold over hockey over some European countries. Canada? Sure. Fuck America. Hockey isn't even the number one watched sport there. Americans watch boring ass american football, way too long of games Baseball, and even the mildy entertaining NBA over the NHL.

In some of these European countries, hockey IS the sport. Besides the unique factor, anybody who actually knows hockey will show up here and even if they don't know the city. They will ask where is that city located? And you say things like Finland, where Selanne is from. There is enough overall Europeans in the NHL that hockey fans actually know that it matters. Plus most real hockey fans watch the World Jrs and the Olympics. I'd say the Worlds as well but that always airs when the playoffs are on.

A bad trophy? We changed it a few seasons back so that only Captains and Assistant Captains could win it. The idea is that a member who represents their team well, who is also a Captain/Assistant Captain, and is also a good contributing presence around the board. Ergo just by being them, they increase the reputation and awareness of the team they are on.

But it's a tough award to gauge either way. Although it's been somewhat interest since Victor started doing the public voting to determine the ballot.

I think your ideas are sound Molholt and to be completely honest I don't think many people would exploit it if they were able to GM a team and have their player on another.

But to me it's about a principle. You don't structure the rules in a way that a conflict of interest could potentially exist or come up. Even if you hope and assume that the majority of the league won't abuse it, the fact that it COULD happen under that rule set when in reality it isn't that big of a deal to have a GM player be on the GM team. Specifically since VHL GM's with the exception of a few swap out at a decent enough time frame as it is. They create their players to fit in with the rebuild, and fit in with the core of their teams in most cases.

Keep in mind we aren't in a time were a team competes for a few seasons and then rebuilds either. Cologne was a re-tooling/trying to compete team every since they joined the league. Quebec as well. Both teams felt the blows of expansion depth but slowly became playoff teams and only now recently have rebuilt. That is 8 seasons. New York before Chri's recent rebuilt went 11 seasons of playoff action. Davos has been a top team for like 3-4 seasons now. Teams don't cycle as often in the VHL as they used to due to the sheer number of quality players we have. Literally a GM has to suffer one maybe two bad seasons with a team now, if that. Even Calgary/Helsinki are coming out of rebuild with somewhat competitive teams right now, and aren't just pushovers.
