Announcing the S77 Malmo Nighthawks Team Awards as voted by the players and management.

    Condor Adrienne Award (Best Defenseman)
    Viktor Alexei Kamenov

The lanky Russian was nothing short of amazing for the Nighthawks in his fifth season with the team. He was potent on both ends of the rink setting career-highs in assists (49), points (68), shots (233), and blocked shots (223 – which led the VHL!). He was second on the team in scoring and led the team in power play goals (12) and was second in power play points (31) even after Chris Hylands was traded. He was a soldier on the blueline and a vocal leader in the locker room. There is even talk he should garner some votes for the league awards as well. That’s how good Kamenov was for Malmo.

    Rookie of the Year
    Brendan Telker

Telker was Malmo’s top pick (5th overall) in the S77 Entry Draft and in spite of a slow start, he finished strong and would place 5th among VHL rookie scoring with 50 points. He was among team leaders in game-winning goals (4 -1st), goals (24 – 2nd), shots (301 – 2nd), and plus/minus (-7 – 3rd) and led Nighthawk rookies in most offensive categories.

    Unsung Hero
    Woody McPine

The veteran goaltender was the ultimate professional in his first full season in Malmo after a trade from Prague during S76. He humbly accepted the backup role, playing the fewest games (22) of his seven-year career, even though he put up the best numbers in the league. In spot duty, McPine led the VHL with a 0.938 save percentage and was 2nd among goalies who played in 10 or more games with a 2.51 GAA. His 11-7 record helped Malmo secure a play-in spot in the postseason.

    Most Energetic
    Druss Deathwalker

The rookie right winger exuded energy during his first season in the VHL, on and off the ice. After placing second in the VHLM hits in his only minor league season, he led the team and all VHL rookies with 317 hits which put him 7th in the league. He also was dinged for 117 penalty minutes. Although Malmo was a team full of brutes, he was a non-stop force to be feared and just edged out many teammates for the award.

    Most Gentlemanly
    Chris Hylands

Despite playing only 45 games for the Nighthawks before being traded to Warsaw, star Chris Hylands played a tough but clean game and his modest persona on the ice and welcoming charm in the locker room endeared him to his Malmo teammates enough to just beat out seven others for the title of Most Gentlemanly.

    Most Valuable Player
    Arthur Dayne

The veteran center had a brilliant season for Malmo becoming the straw that stirred their offense after the departure of Hylands. He set career-highs in many categories as he led the team in goals (39), points (90), shots (412), hat tricks (2), and shootout goals (5). He was a consistent threat every time he was on the ice and contributed in all situations.

    Nighthawk of the Year
    Druss Deathwalker

Deathwalker came into Malmo with an easy-going manner, a reputation, and a whole lot of swagger that flared into a fierce pride for the Nighthawk emblem when patrolling the ice. He helped create an identity for a team that traded away two of its leaders and was key to Malmo leading the league in shootout wins and having the third-most hits. He was also an engaging presence in the locker room and worked to engrain himself in the team’s fabric.

    3-Stars Award
    Chris Hylands

Even though he only played 45 games for the Nighthawks, Chris Hylands was dynamic leading the team in scoring with 60 points and hits with 199 at the time of the trade. He was also their 3-Stars leader and his 9 1st Stars and 340 Star points were so much that no one could catch him, although Arthur Dayne came close.

So, it is once again your fearless, totally-not-narcissistic, leader's birthday, and once again, it is happening while Ontario is under stay-at-home orders. As a birthday gift from me to all of you (that's how it works, right?), I'm gifting everyone 1 Free TPE, to be claimed by the end of the PT Week. I won't even make you say nice things about me this time 😛

To claim, link this thread and claim as Uncapped > Other > Other, with the description "Quik is making things about himself again" (or use whatever description you want that has the word birthday in it).

HearnNation67 reacted to animal74 in Thoughts on Malmo's season
Well, as I’m trying to finalize another Game 7 Stories VSN article, I thought I’d put some thoughts out on the season so far.

It’s my first season as a recreate rookie and while I had the drive to build up towards the draft, it’s been more difficult to keep that momentum IRL for the season. Malmo has been doing about as well as the pundits expected as we are tied for the final playoff spot (5th) in the European Conference with Davos after 29 games with six points separating us from 4th place and four point separating us from last. Every game is important.

I think the Nighthawks are slowly gelling on and off the ice. Chris Hylands, of course, is playing out of his mind but Arthur Dayne has been quietly fantastic as well. The rest of our forwards need to pick it up on both ends of the ice if we want to compete for the playoffs. We are one goal out of being the worst-scoring team in the league – not helpful for playoff chances. One area of specific concern is our production in the third period. We are far and away the worst-scoring team in the last frame having only lit the lamp 18 times. Comebacks are not our thing, I guess. We are also one of the worst face-off teams.

Our defense has really become a solid unit especially offensively. It hurts to have lost a leader such as Frostbeard but the leagues leader in fights, Randy Marsh, has fit in well and added a different element to our backend. Kamenov is having a fine season as he’s third on the team in points and is among the league leaders in shots blocked. Conversely, Wakaro is among the leaders for power play goals.

Our goalies have come back to earth a bit after a scorching start but both Artem Tretiak and Woody McPine have kept us in games and given us a chance to win especially in shootouts where we are 2nd in the VHL with 4 shootout wins. It’s nice to see McPine putting up career-high stats albeit in a backup role.

Special teams have not been great for us. We need to work a lot on our power play as it’s the 3rd worst in the VHL clicking at only 16.9%. We also have 6th worst PK despite having the second fewest penalty minutes. Maybe we need to take more penalties so we can practice our system more?

While we may not score, we’re tough to play against. Malmo has the 4th most hits in the league. We have three players with over 90 hits so far and Marsh has come in crushing opponents at a rate of almost 5 a game.

What I guess I’m trying to say is that the Nighthawks, for all their flaws, still play hard and work together as a team to get wins. We aren’t the flashiest or have a team full of stars, but you can bet on a tough game and we have lots of positives and those are growing and we’re going to scrape and claw for that playoff spot. With a lot of prospects and a lot of high picks in the next few years, Malmo is a young team to keep in your sights because if you don’t, we’ll pass you and leave you in our dust.

HearnNation67 reacted to Gustav in My Ranking of Every Team's Backup Goaler
A backup goalie is an often-overlooked part of a VHL team. They get thrown in when they're required to be, often just 8 games every season, and then they're benched as the team does all they can to win by giving the other 64 to the higher-TPE player. Often, a backup is a lower earner who may never be a starter, but at times they may also be a star in the making. Here I'll be ranking every team's current backup by how much I'd want them on my team--that is, where they are in TPE, how they've done in the past, and (most importantly) their potential to develop into a legitimate starter.

It's a .com, so let's go. This is going to be way longer than 150 words, but as always I only write about things I want to write about and I can't think of anything else at the moment (other than something that would be longer than this).

    1. Sirkants Klamasteris | @hedgehog337 | S75 | 635 TPA |
#1 on this list is a no-brainer. "Sir" is better than many starters in the league, and will certainly be the starter next season after the retirement of Jaxx Hextall. In fact, he may be #1B this season, as starts between him and Hextall have been split fairly evenly.

    2. Jacob Carson | @jacobcarson877 | S74 | 422 TPA |
One could argue that Blazevicius and Tater Tot have better potential, and that may be correct. I'm going to go with Carson here because he's a couple more seasons into his development and is currently more starter-ready. In fact, with Ajay Krishna inactive and depreciating next season, Carson may be called upon to take over as the starter. He also did fairly well last season, picking up a .931 SV% in 10 games.

    3. Tater Tot | @Trunkxolotl | S76 | 291 TPA |
Tied with Blazevicius for the title of youngest goalie in the VHL, there isn't much at all separating our #3 and #4. The difference comes with a very slight TPE edge and a better opportunity for Tater Tot--while UnGuri figures to be the long-term starter in Davos, Vancouver doesn't quite have a franchise goaler in place, leaving the door open if Tater Tot sees an increase in earning.

    4. Jurgis Kalvelis Blazevicius | @efiug | S76 | 282 TPA |
And here's Davos! Many backups in the league are S75 players who are just a shadow above Blazevicius in TPA. With Blazevicius being a full season younger, he's set to catch up to most if not all of the S75 backup class (Klamasteris excluded) this season, and with another full season before depreciation, he's got a higher ceiling.

     5. Woody McPine | @HearnNation67 | S71 | 547 TPA |
525-TPA Artem Tretiak is easily #2 on this list if we assume that the lower-TPA player is the backup. However, the starts have gone to the hotter prospect in Tretiak so far, leading one to believe that McPine is the one in the backup role. McPine has played in at least 40 games every season of his career (including the maximum in S75), finding himself in starter territory up to this point--so in terms of being able to hold down the fort, he's proven himself worthy. Being from S71, though, the future is limited.

    6. Joakim Bruden | @PadStack | S71 | 487 TPA |
It's weird to see Bruden outside of Davos, but here we are. Bruden had a few seasons as the starter in Davos, with two as #1 and one--last season--as 1B. Though sim luck never seemed to fall his way, he's got a fresh start backing up rising star Thadius Sales in New York. Though, like McPine, he won't end up making a big difference now or in the future, he's the third-highest-TPA backup in the league and one of the best possible options when the starter is out.

    7. Trent Gibson | @Caboose30 | S75 | 335 TPA |
Gibson gets recognized over a few other S75s for a few reasons. First off is current goaler Zamboni Driver being out the door after next season--possibly giving Gibson a starting opportunity--and second is Caboose being an active contributor in other leagues and getting half of his weekly cap for free from elsewhere.

    8. Matthew A. Sovick Jr. | @matt sovick | S75 | 303 TPA |
Sovick is very similar to a few others, though he's been more active as of late. Though Calvin Harvey seems to be in net for the foreseeable future and it seems somewhat unlikely that Sovick might start in Riga, he's become more active as a member and may have a bright future in the league down the road.

    9. Aksu Maronen | @aksuko | S75 | 301 TPA |
Maronen's future in Seattle is more limited than Sovick's in Riga, with starter Rara Rasputin being both S75 and 600 TPA. There may be a space for Maronen elsewhere, but reaching starter status with the Bears seems highly unlikely.

    10. Kloxified | @Kloxified | S74 | 355 TPA |
Time may be running out for Kloxified to become a starting-caliber player, but in terms of TPA, Chicago has the 6th-best backup to fill in for Camus when necessary.

    11. Michael Olson | @MSO94 | S74 | 339 TPA |
With fellow S74 draftee Kevin Malone in net for Moscow, it's unlikely that Olson will ever be the starter there. However, like Kloxified, he has developed enough to be usable.

    12. John Poremba | @CrlineDijohn14 | S72 | 395 TPA |
With close to 400 TPA, Poremba is the 5th-highest backup in the league. However, he will depreciate heavily next season and be gone in S79. At the moment, he is a good option--but that is very temporary.

    13. Michael Fletcher | @DragonFire420 | S75 | 293 TPA |
Fletcher is comparable to Maronen or Sovick, but he's also inactive. A return to activity would move him up the list, but until then he remains more or less a filler.

    14. Nils Friedriksen | @Biggreen10 | S72 | 343 TPA |
Friedreksen is in Fletcher's situation, usable but inactive. Being three seasons older, though, the time he has to re-establish himself is very limited.

Yeet! I learned a few things here; I hope you do too.

Deathwalker excited to start Nighthawk career

Posting to his new blog for Malmo fans, Deathwalker: Nighthawker, Druss Deathwalker updates his feelings on the new season starting tomorrow.

Well, laddies (and lasses), I am excited to start this season off with a bang! In practice, I’ve mainly been skating on the second line although many line combos have been tried in an effort to put forward a balanced attack. I feel great! We have a young team but we have a team with spirit! I think we may surprise the VHL this year.

Our forward group is of course led by our fearless leader Chris Hylands who is unbelievable to watch. I’m learning more from watching him than playing back in Scotland! Me and Carson Walkers stirred the pot a bit at practice – he can be a beast when he wants to. I was also impressed with our top centre Arthur Dayne. He can really fly and handle the puck at top speed! We have a very skilled lineup and defensively responsible, too, although we’ve had some trouble in the passing drills. I think I’ll be relied on to do the heavy lifting in the corners and feed the puck to my fellow S77 draftee, Brendan Telker.

Our backend is led by none other than Marshall James Frostbeard who is an absolute beast! Kamenov, Wakaro, and Wu round out a well-balanced core that can skate and defend our zone. Breakouts and first passes are something we continue to work on.

I’ve been most fascinated by the battle in net. Both Woody McPine and Artem Tretiak are solid netminders and they compete hard and want to win. I feel they both give us a great chance to win any night.

Well, Malmo faithful, time to get some shuteye and get ready for our first game. Good night!

Announcing the S76 Prague Phantoms’ Team Awards as voted by the players and management:

    Best Defenseman
    Riley Knight Gee

With Prague’s original “Big 3” on defense either retired or signed elsewhere, it was time for the next generation of Phantom blueliners to step up. And Gee sure did that! The Canadian defenseman set career-highs in just about every category including setting franchise records for plus-minus (+28) and goals by a defenseman (23). He also led the team in minutes played, PIM, power play goals and shootout goals.

    Others Receiving Votes: Zachariah Kisslinger

    Rookie of the Year
    Dominic Gobeil

Gobeil set new Prague rookie standards for goals (26), points (71), shots (374), power play assists (19) and points (26) and tied the franchise rookie record with 45 assists.

Others Receiving Votes: Robert Bouchard, Silas LeFriend

    Unsung Hero
    Dan Baillie Jr, Zachariah Kisslinger

There are always a lot of players who receive votes for this award which points to Prague’s comradery and the effort this team plays with.

Baillie Jr had somewhat of a bounce-back season as he set career-highs in goals (28), points (54), plus-minus (+15), shots (267), and power play goals (8) and was a consistent source of offense all season long. This is his second shared Unsung Hero Award.

Kisslinger went from little-used rookie to top-pairing sophomore overnight blasting his rookie numbers out of the water. He was second on the Phantoms in assists (47), plus-minus (+25), and PIM (112) and third in hits and shots blocked.

Others Receiving Votes: Robert Bouchard, Dominic Gobeil, Grekkark Gyrfalcon, John LeClair II, Woody McPine

    Most Energetic
    Dominic Gobeil, Zachariah Kisslinger

As a rookie, Gobeil led the team in hits (185 over the full season) and was second in shots as he constantly buzzed around the ice and caused havoc for opponents and opportunities for his teammates.

A one-man wrecking crew in front of the Prague crease, Kisslinger was among team leaders in PIM, hits, and shots blocked as he also queued the Phantom attack with his deft passing.

Others Receiving Votes: Thomas Landry II

    Most Gentlemanly
    Robert Bouchard, Thomas Landry II

Neither Landry II nor Bouchard are afraid to mix it up on the ice but it was their pleasant and contagious personalities that permeated the Prague locker room. They were always looking out for their teammates and put others first as only gentlemen do. This is Landry’s third Most Gentlemanly Award and Bouchard's first.

Others Receiving Votes: John Brewitt, Jungkok, John LeClair II, Woody McPine

    Most Valuable Player
    Thomas Landry II

The runaway winner for the Phantoms’ MVP for the second straight season is none other than their leader Thomas Landry II who had the best season in team history setting franchise records for goals (38), assists (67), points (105) and shots (449), and tying his own franchise records in power play assists (21) and points (29). He also set career-highs in plus-minus (+21) and shot blocks (45) and had 34 more points than the next Phantom.

    Others Receiving Votes: Dominic Gobeil

    Phantom of the Year
    Thomas Landry II

In his first season as team captain, Landry II stepped it up a notch on and off the ice. He had a career year leading a young Prague team to the playoffs, set team records along the way and continued to make his mark as the unquestioned leader of the Phantoms. This is his second Phantom of the Year Award.

Others Receiving Votes: Zachariah Kisslinger, Grekkark Gyrfalcon

    3-Stars Award
    Thomas Landry II

With his record-breaking season, it’s no wonder Thomas Landry II outpaced the next closest Phantom by 100 Star points – although goalie Woody McPine gave him a run for his money before getting traded. Landry II led the Phantoms with 10 1st-Stars and 20 total Star selections as he willed the Phantoms into the playoffs for only the fourth time in franchise history. This is his second 3-Stars Award.

HearnNation67 reacted to Seabass in Seabass Perrin Retirement
Today I have called on a informal zoom session here with some members of the press in order to formally announce my retirement from VHL Hockey. First of all I would like to apologize to all my fans and friends for not having the courage to do this press conference back in S75 when I played my last game instead of almost a year later.

At the end of my career I was disappointed by not having been able to help my team get into the postseason and I felt embarrassed by not being able to help push the Phantoms past the 1st round of the playoffs during the 7 seasons I was there for. Hell we only made the playoffs twice during my tenure. So I after the S75 season I took a hiatus from hockey life in order to reflect and refresh myself before being able to make this statement.

While I never could win any awards of any kind I wouldn't say my career was a total failure. I had a long career of 8 full seasons and played over 500 games played and to just be able to play in the VHL to begin with I consider myself very fortunate. I would like to take the time to thank the following:

I want to first thank my parents, as without their support I would've not been able to become the player I became. My parents pushed me to be passionate about what I do and to pursue my dreams in the first place. They raised me to have a great work ethic and that is what helped me the most throughout my career. I appreciate all the early morning rides out to the rinks and the many storms you've had to conquer in order to get me to various hockey tournaments.

I want to also thank my grandfather and agent for all of his guidance throughout my career. He gets credit for first teaching me how to skate and eventually then introduced me to the sport of hockey and the VHL. From a young age I idolized him and wanted to just follow in his footsteps and become a VHL player and that ended up becoming a reality.

I couldn't of had such a long career without the help of many such as the management and players from the S67 Yukon Rush. I joined them just to try and see what the VHL was all about and they managed to keep me sticking around the VHL long enough to turn me into a 1000+ TPE player.  I felt like we all had great chemistry there and we were so good that we truly should've advanced further into the playoffs then we did. Looking back, that S67 team created 11 VHL players who grouped together played almost 5000 VHL Games and accumulated almost 3000 points . There was some serious talent on that squad!

Obviously the city of Prague and the Phantoms Hockey Family have also made a huge impact on my career. The Phantoms took a chance on me by drafting me 17th overall in the 2nd round of the S68 Draft and also brought over a few of my former Rush team mates, Erik Draven, Wolf Stansson Jr. and Willie Dredge along with me and since then I've grown to consider this city my home.  I ended up getting drafted in time to play for the Phantoms during their inaugural season after they were expanded into the VHL and just being there for that inaugural season is something I'll always feel special about. We didn't have a good year as we were all young and we iced 9 rookies that year but we had a lot of fun and over the years we got to just grow together as a family from there. I got to bond and play many years of hockey with the same core group and while we never had a Continental Cup contending team I had a great time playing with all my teammates in Prague.

I want to also thank the only other VHL team I played for, the Helsinki Titans and @Jubo07 who gave me my only opportunity at winning the Continental Cup. I joined what I thought to be a contending team but even though I had a blast with that group we had a underwhelming season. We performed when it counted though and I'll forever remember that magical playoff run to the finals, I just wish we could've came through in the end.

I would like the thank specifically my former GM, @diamond_ace  for originally selecting me in the S68 draft and for being one of the firsts to have faith in me as a VHL player and for ultimately giving me the honor and the chance to serve as this team's Assistant General Manager for a few seasons. You also were really cool about me going to Helsinki for a year to chase my Continental Cup dreams and even let me retain my role as AGM. Your a real stand up guy.

I want to also thank all my friends I made over my career as they really made the VHL a more fun environment to participate in and it kept me more into it.

Wolf Stansson Jr, who I played with since our time with the Rush and there's no player in which I've shared more games with than him as we got to play over 550 games together.
    @Cornholio

Alex Pearson, who used to give me rides to practices and games back when I lost my license and join me in most of my off ice shenanigan. He became one of my closest friends in the
VHL and we even shared some legal troubles in our careers. Today we even have a joint venture in a restaurant and bar we opened in the city of Prague, go check it out sometime.
    @Jayrad28

Erik Draven, who served as my first captain and was one of my very first friends in the VHL. We always kept in touch throughout our careers and he managed to convince me to join him  for his final season in Helsinki for a year for a chance at joining a contender for the Continental Cup and we fell just short of making that a reality.
    @Jbeezy76

Ondrej Ohradka, who was just a blast to play with and was one of the more passionate guys I've met throughout my career. We were able to work together on a Point Task looking back at it I wasn't at all surprised to see you eventually grow to be selected as a VSN writer.
    @animal74

@Jolline sorry you never got the chance to play for us, but they needed a prospect to make the deal work, and as Roque and Myers know each other in real life, you were the one that made the most sense. Ought to actually work out fairly well as we have a ton of prospects and you'd be on a crowded set of lines when you got up, whereas Malmo in their rebuild will be able to give you a ton of time and build around you a bit more.

@HearnNation67 I've already talked to you about this in the discord - honestly putting you into this deal was the hardest part of the whole thing. You've been a huge asset to Prague and will always be in the "Phamily" so to speak - it would take a goalie of Gyrfalcon's caliber to make me think about doing this, let's just put it that way.

Welcome @Sharkstrong and @tfong ! I'll get a bit more into that in the discord

Announcing the S75 Prague Phantoms’ Team Awards as voted by the players and management.

    Best Defenseman
    Wolf Stansson Jr @Cornholio

In Stansson Jr’s eighth and final season as a Prague Phantom, he led all Phantoms with a career-high 51 assists, 11 power play goals and three shorthanded assists, was second on the team with 64 points, and led Prague blueliners with 152 PIM and 184 hits, both career-highs.

Others Receiving Votes: Cinnamon Block, Seabass Perrin

    Unsung Hero
    Pengu @Pengu, Woody McPine @HearnNation67

For the second straight season, nine different players received votes for the Unsung Hero award but two players received two votes each.

Center Pengu was acquired in the off-season to give the Phantoms some depth down the middle after losing Dagmar Havlova. He added a deft shot and silky playmaking as he was third in goals with 25 and fourth in scoring with 60 points. His 35 assists, 336 shots, 35 shot blocks and 4 game-winning goals were all career-highs and proved his versatility and two-way play gave the Phantoms a spark on most nights.

In his third season as Prague’s Numero Uno in the net, McPine bailed the team out on many nights when the Phantoms went through sloppy stretches. He set career-highs in games played (65), wins (27), and shots against (2375).

Others Receiving Votes: Wolf Stansson Jr, Ondrej Ohradka, John LeClair II, Seabass Perrin, Cinnamon Block, Dan Baillie Jr, Zachariah Kisslinger

    Most Energetic
    Thomas Landry II @Doomsday

Landry II was his usual truculent self in S75 leading the team in PIM (166 – a career-high) and hits (262). He was also a buzzsaw around the net as he threw a team-leading and career-high 372 shots at opposing goalies. This is his third Most Energetic award.

Others Receiving Votes: Ondrej Ohradka, Seabass Perrin, Pengu, Gary Tarantino, John LeClair II

    Most Gentlemanly
    Seabass Perrin @Seabass

Although he plays hard on the ice, veteran Seabass Perrin has always been a gentleman off it. He focused more on offense in his final seasons and he only had 76 PIM in S75 but led the Phantoms with 172 blocked shots. This is his second Most Gentlemanly award.

Others Receiving Votes: Pengu, Ondrej Ohradka, Gary Tarantino, Thomas Landry II, Riley Knight Gee

    Rookie of the Year
    Zachariah Kisslinger @Zach Kisslinger

The only freshman on the Phantoms in S75, the hulking Canadian defenseman put together a solid rookie season. He contributed seven points and blocked 88 shots while averaging just under 18 minute a game.

    Most Valuable Player
    Thomas Landry II @Doomsday

The breakout season that Phantom fans had been waiting for from star forward Thomas Landry II finally happened. The American led the Phantoms with career-highs in goals (35 – tying a franchise record), points (82), shots (372), PIM (166) and new franchise records in power play assists (21) and points (29). He also led the team in plus/minus (-8) and game-winning goals (6) and had 22 more points than the next best forward.

Others Receiving Votes: Wolf Stansson Jr, Seabass Perrin, Woody McPine, Ondrej Ohradka

    Phantom of the Year
    Ondrej Ohradka @animal74

During the last season, the Slovakian winger gave it his all on the ice and off of it, pushing himself and his teammates as they played to earn a playoff spot. Unfortunately, the Phantoms were mathematically eliminated before the season was finished and it was only then that Ohradka announced his retirement. His locker room presence and dedication to the Phantom brand led to his teammates voting him Phantom of the Year for a third and final time as a farewell gift and a silver lining to a disappointing season.

Others Receiving Votes: Thomas Landry II, Seabass Perrin, Wolf Stansson Jr

    3-Stars Award
    Woody McPine @HearnNation67

The young Canadian netminder stood on his head many nights for the Phantoms to the tune of being named 1st Star of the Game a team-leading 6 times and was named a Star of the Game a total of 17 times.

    Ondrej Ohradka Retires

A press conference was called to announce that S68 draftee Ondrej Ohradka is retiring.

Ohradka read from a prepared statement:

Thank you to everyone for coming. Today, I am announcing my retirement from the VHL. I just wanted to take the time to thank some people who helped me in my career and some of the friends who I’ve met along the way.

First, I would like to thank the four organizations that I had the pleasure of playing for: the Minnesota Storm , the Saskatoon Wild , the Calgary Wranglers  and especially the Prague Phantoms . I would like to thank the management who either drafted me or traded for me and took a chance on a “first-gen”: @Rayzor_7, @Peace, @Bushito, & @diamond_ace . Of course, I need to mention that Elmebeck was the AGM of the Wild and I had the opportunity to have some Discord chats with him before he left us. He had an impact on me and I will not forget his kindness. R.I.P.

I’ve met and have conversed with lots of great people along the way but I wanted to especially say thanks to @Victor and @a_Ferk

Thanks to the VSN staff for taking a chance on me. You’ve all been great to work with and I look forward to writing more great content with you!

Then there are all the fantastic teammates who have shared a part in my career and I’d like to acknowledge as many as I can.

From my Wild days: Kristopher McDagg @Viperxhawks19, David O'Quinn @David O'Quinn, Killy Foilen @Aye my name jeff, Damien Wolfe @Laflamme, Erik Killinger @Peace, Uhtred @leafsman

My Wrangler mates (and some former Wild mates). Albeit a brief stay, thanks for making it a memorable one!: Charlie Paddywagon @DMaximus, Sigard Gunnar @Big Mac, Kris Rice @Ricer13, Hiroshi Okada @enigmatic, Tyler Barabash Jr, Brady Stropko Jr @Bushito, Jordan Tonn @MexicanCow123, JB Rift @Devise, RJ Jubis @Jubis, Edwin THE Encarnacion @Tagger, Mikko Lahtinen @Beketov, Jacques Lafontaine @SlapshotDragon

And finally, my Phamily – the Prague Phantoms. Thanks for making this career so enjoyable in spite of our lack of team success. It has been a pleasure to battle and party with you on and off the ice: Gert B Frobe @NumberJ5, Blake Laughton @Grape, Joel Ylonen @Esso2264, Virgil Ligriv @MMFLEX, Roll Fizzlebeef @TacticalHammer , John Poremba @CrlineDijohn14, Pengu @Pengu, Nicolas Fomba @efiug, Cody Smith @cody73, Solomon Crawford @AW13, Ben McGirr @cartoes, Jacob Perry @Liberty_Cabbage, Zachariah Kisslinger @Zach Kisslinger, John LeClair II @flyersfan1453, Riley Knight Gee @KnightRiley, Dan Baillie Jr @wcats, Woody McPine @HearnNation67, Kefka Palazzo, Dagmar Havlova @diamond_ace , Brick Wahl @BladeMaiden, Alex Pearson @Jayrad28, Gary Tarantino @Garrett, Cinnamon Block @omgitshim, Wolf Stansson Jr @Cornholio, Seabass Perrin @Seabass, & Thomas Landry II @Doomsday.

See you on the ice soon and Merry Christmas!

The native of Trencin, Slovakia began his career as a Founder’s Cup winner with the S69 Saskatoon Wild and had one trip to the Continental Cup Finals in his rookie season with the S70 Calgary Wranglers which ended in a six-game defeat to the Moscow Menace. He also was a part of two first round losses with the Prague Phantoms in S71 and S74. Although no major awards bear his name, he has won many team awards with the Saskatoon Wild and Prague Phantoms. And up until the last part of this season, Ohradka was the Wild’s all-time leader in career goals and game-winning goals and currently holds the Phantoms’ single-season goals record with 35. He will end his career in the Top-5 of many Prague statistical categories including third in all-time goals even though he played less than six full seasons there. After being a 4th round pick and having underwhelming rookie and sophomore years in the height of the dead-puck era, Ohradka will finish his career with four consecutive seasons of 26+ goals and 50+ points. He was also an assistant captain of the Phantoms for the first and only time in his final season. He finishes with 977 TPE.

HearnNation67 got a reaction from wcats in Mr. McPine, tear down this Wahl!
The Prague Phantoms record books were rewritten the other week, when the team defeated the New York Americans 4-3 in game number 281 of season 75. The victory was goaltender Woody McPine's 61st career regular season win with the franchise, passing former netminder Brick Wahl for 1st place. It was McPine's 19th victory of the season, giving him a record at the time of 19-14-3. The game was a tight one, with the aging Wolf Stansson Jr opening the scoring with his 5th goal of the season just 2 minutes into the game. Assisting on the play were Riley Gee Knight (11) and Pengu (19). New York would answer back before the end of the first period, scoring 2 goals to take the lead. The first was a powerplay marker after John Leclair II took a slashing minor, and was Shawn Andrei Zyuzin's 3rd of the season with assists going to Markus Schauer (31) and Brian Strong Jr (15). The second goal also came on the powerplay, when Stansson Jr received a major for charging, and was scored by the youthful Wolf Stansson, his 6th of the season, with helpers from Jerry Wang (21) and Big Chungus (13). The Phantoms got back on track in the second period with a powerplay goal of their own. After Strong Jr took a hooking minor, Stansson Jr scored his 6th of the season and 2nd of the game, with the lone assist going to Thomas Landry II (19). Prague retook the lead near the end of yet another powerplay, this one a Zyuzin holding minor, as Landry II potted his 20th of the season and Stansson Jr (28) and Dan Baillie Jr (17) had the helpers. The Americans would not go down without a fight, however, and after Gary Tarantino took a diving penalty they tied it up, Rhynex Entertainment scored his 15th goal of the season with just 27 seconds left in the period. Markus Schauer added his 2nd assist of the game, giving him 32 on the year, and Gary Rush (15) had one as well. The third period was once again filled with penalties, but shockingly enough, the winning goal came at even strength. Leclair II scored his 10th goal of the year just under 4 minutes into the final frame. Baillie Jr (18) had his second assist of the night, and Stansson Jr (29) added one as well to give himself 3 points in the game. His efforts would earn him the 1st star of the game. Landry II and Baillie Jr were named 2nd and 3rd stars, respectively. McPine, on his milestone night, finished with 29 saves of 32 shots and a 0.906 save percentage. At the other end of the rink, Bacon put up 36 saves on 40 shots and a 0.900 save percentage in a losing effort for New York.

Since this record setting night however, the Phantoms and McPine have been struggling. McPine has picked up just 3 wins in the 9 games he's played, leaving him with a 22-18-5 record and the Phantoms have dropped out of a playoff spot, sitting second last in the European Conference with a record of 26-22-5, with rookie goalie Nicolas Fomba recording 4 wins and 4 losses in his 9 games played.

Not putting this in a full fledged announcement because it's optional but still something I wanted to point out. In an attempt to be more inclusive to non-cisgendered members we have added a custom profile field for pronouns which you can find by editing your profile. It will appear under your profile photo next to all your posts so that it's nice and clear to everyone what pronouns they should be using with you. We have also changed the "gender" profile section to be more inclusive in regards to non-binary and gender fluid individuals.

I know this is a minor thing for most but it can mean a lot to those that aren't CIS so we're glad to be able to do it easily for them. As I've said, you aren't forced to use it so if you choose to please take it seriously. If you choose not to then you can completely ignore this and carry on with your day.

    Prague Hands Seattle Third Loss

Coming into Prague on a beautiful winter’s night for a date with the Phantoms for Game 93 on the VHL schedule was the top team in the league, the Seattle Bears. The Bears were still licking their wounds after a 5-0 drubbing by the D.C. Dragons while the Phantoms had won two in a row.

The first period was back and forth with Seattle outshooting Prague 14-11 on the strength of three power plays but the Phantoms penalty-kill unit and goalie Woody McPine didn’t give the Bears a sniff. Conversely, it was the Phantoms that got to Bears’ netminder Jacob Tonn early scoring three unanswered goals as Thomas Landry II would rip in his league-leading 11th goal of the season only 43 seconds in. Just over two minutes later, Prague newcomer Pengu would score his 3rd for a 2-0 lead. Then with Seabass Perrin in the sin bin, Phantom winger Ondrej Ohradka broke up a pass at the blueline and raced in on a two-on-one with sophomore blueliner Riley Knight Gee. Ohradka flipped a pass right to Gee who rifled it past a sprawling Tonn for a shorty and his first of the year.

Prague didn’t take their foot off the gas as they outshot Seattle 33-25 over the next two periods. Seabass Perrin would score his first of the year near the end of the second period to make it 4-0. Seattle would finally get one back as the always dangerous Odin Omdahl beat McPine shorthanded in the third period for his 4th of the season.

Final score would end up 4-1 for Prague with the Phantoms sweeping the 3-Stars with McPine (38 saves on 39 shots), Landry II (1 goal, 9 shots, 6 hits), and Ohradka (2 assists, +3, 6 shots) being chosen.
