Exlaxchronicles reacted to BladeMaiden in Brick Wahl Las Vagas Aces Press Confrence
1.) Brick Wahl is  a 100% fictitious player. Fun fact when I joined the League I had no clue that there had been another Goalie by the same name. After I had created Brick I got  contacted by @Advantage the creator of the original Hall of Fame Brick Wahl and was told that I could use his player in my player's back story. If you ever read my biography there is a spot in it where I make the joke that Brick was sponsored by Advantage.
2.) Like all games it is only fun if you have good players that give you the drive to get involved. I have been lucky enough to be welcomed to the League by a lot of interesting personalities that keep me coming back for more each week.
3.) I do like hockey in real life. I played hockey, was actually a goalie for quite some time. I am also an Ottawa Senators fan, even though at this particular time i have a lot of problems with their organization, really hoping that they get a new owner soon.
4.)To answer your question I plan on sticking around the VHL for quite some time. It is my goal to make Brick a top tier goalie and to see his carrier blossom.  I can not think of a reason why i would quit now, I'm a competitive type of person and i'm always in it to win it.
5.) I would like to see brick win a GOTY and to eventually see him going his Uncle, also Brick Wahl, in the hall of fame. Like I said  before i'm a competitive person and if I am going to dream, I am going to dream BIG.

    Tagger's Questions
    5) The World Juniors cup will be happening in the near future, how likely do you think you'll be to representing your country?
I think there is a good chance that I will end up on the Canadian team as a Goalie the better question is will I be the starting Goalie. I will be competing with former WJC gold medal winning goalie Kevin Weekes ( @Lefty)  for the starting position and even though he is ahead of me currently in TPE, I plan on narrowing the gap before the juniors and giving him a run for his money, because Brick Wahl is nobody's back up.

i agree with some points but i disagree with others. while automation has it's faults it was adapt or die really. everything is going towards automation in every league really. well in the 2 leagues i was in they loved automation and well its cool but not also i guess but thats because im old and don't like change but we also have to make it easier for kids these days because they love to put in the least amount of effort for the maximum amount of gain. which is a sad reality.

    1. I did sign with the Ottawa Lynx. Oslo did make a push to sign me, but I really wanted those starter minutes to improve. It is hard to know what you are doing wrong if you do not step on the ice. I would love to prove all of the other teams wrong, without question.
    2. I am form the UK, so of course I am drinking beer, a lot of beer. Just do not tell my General Managers, that can be our little secret.
    3. I mean, I like to be my own guy, but I am a huge fan of Tuukka Rask, but the good Rask. Not the one that chokes all the time, the better version of him. I really like his style of play being aggressive while also being in the butterfly.
    4. It is working out, I very much love it. My goal is to be the #1 goalie of my draft class, I am on my way to that goal, I will not stop until I am there.
    5. I do, yes. I did tear my ACL, so that definitely cut into those plans, but I do play.

Thank you for those! I will answer 2 more next week! Keep them coming.

Exlaxchronicles reacted to .sniffuM in Quebec vs. Riga, then Riga, then Riga, then Riga
The Quebec Meute haven't had the best start to their season, but have come away with a point in every game, standing at 2-0-2. The team has established an early rival as well, with a scheduling anomaly resulting in the team playing the Riga Reign in four consecutive games to start things off. Riga stands to be one of the most improved VHL squads this season, and it showed, as the team was able to pull away from the four game stretch against last season's game 7 losers with a solid 5 points. Rumor has it that in the team's constant back and forth with Riga, Beau Louth impregnated two strippers and a gigolo, with at least two of those being on the Latvian side of things. Marvin Harding did well for himself as well, picking up some points and some hits, and DJing for the biggest nightclub in Latvia. The performance was attended by 29 people, a club record, although most were just Meute and Reign players. No word on if Harding will be looking to expand upon his fledgling side hustle, as he's actually starting to play like a professional hockey player.

    My Thoughts On The VHL
Well, I've been playing this game for around a year and four months now and where did the time go?

At periods the game seemed to drag on about midway through my players career, and I started to get a little bored of doing tasks for the week. But even though its only a game and  I thought of quitting, I decided to continue.

Now coming to the end of my first gen players career, I felt that a combination of  the game and some of the other members  helped me decide to keep staying on. And as tedious as it was to keep up with the game, and all the real life things going on in my personal world this virtual world has added to a bit of a break from reality and life's daily pressures.

When I first started here I had no idea on how to do the simplest of tasks such as copy and paste, tag others etc. Why? Because I never had any use for it online before. I had a lot of trouble getting things done and I'm sure I pissed off a few long time members, but they forget that they were born into all this technology, where I on the other hand came from the world of records, VHS and only land line phones. Hell, payphones were the closest thing to a mobile phone at one time and portable cassette recorders were advanced technology.

Needless to say, the few that were ignorant to me in the beginning would have received a punch in the fucking mouth if they were around me, literally not figuratively but others came and were patient with me and showed support. Hence why I've stayed. You always get the good with the bad. Such is life.
Anyways, guess what I'm trying to say is that being here has for the most part been a fun and good learning experience for me.
After Kiaskov's career is over, I won't be recreating for the long while, as real life takes precedence. I will hang around to comment, keep grading and use this venue as an outlet to take a break from the real world.

Exlaxchronicles reacted to McWolf in Bittersweet Debut
Last time he was on the ice, Joseph McWolf was hoisting the Founder's Cup, as he capped off his VHLM career with a brilliant final performance that helped the Ottawa Lynx sweep the Halifax 21st. Since then, he was drafted 2nd overall by the New York Americans, after they traded up to get him in particular.

And tonight was his VHL debut. His long-awaited debut. Experts were excited to see if he'd manage to lead his new team to glory as soon as this season. Deep down, the English defenseman knew this season wouldn't be an easy one. He'd have to get acclimated to the speed, to the different strategies. He's also joining a team that has barely started its rebuilding process, one that promises to take a while. He was excited to get back in the action tonight, wearing his new colours. He had a lot to prove, as he looked forward to show everyone the Americans were right to pick him at number 2.

In the end, maybe this was too early to start calling him a saviour or anything. His debut was, as he anticipated, a rough one, as the Bears visited New York and walked away with an easy 7-0 win. He did, however, lead the team in both hits and shots blocked, as we maybe got a glimpse of a future where McWolf is a dominant defensive presence on the Americans blueline.

[ A Peek Into The Bears Season Start ]
                                                                                                    ================================
This year marks a re - tooling of the club during this past off  season, with some new members replacing players leaving during trades and his UFA.
Notables joining the fold are veterans  McAllister, Axelsson and Kiaskov. We all know what to expect from these three names.
Future HOF McAllister is a skilled two way offensive threat wherever they place him on the line.
Otto Axelsson is a solid veteran player who is capable of playing top minutes or can be used in a role playing position.
Kiaskov is a steady offensive threat bringing a solid two way game, and now that he's moved back to defence he brings that ability to the blue line.
Along for the ride  are young player's like Thompson, Smirnov, Kovalev, Davis, Malenko and Thunder Foot. They bring a youthful exuberance to the team, and also if its any indication from last year we can expect another season of their high offensive output. They're a talented young squad that will only improve as they mature.
GM Banackock having added the three veterans, should help the youngster's along with their game and maturity level. From what we've seen these first few games everything seems to be going smoothly. Its still young in the season for the club but we should expect Seattle to continue on their ways as they have done so these first few games.
Having that steady veteran presence on the forward and blue line with the three should help the youth on this talented club.
                                                                                                                                  =======
                                                                                                                                 [ Offense ]
                                                                                                                                  =======
On paper this team is scary offensively. The young core were dangerous on the ice last year, and now having added the offensive veteran presence of McAllister, Axelsson and Kiaskov this club should soar to greater heights.
You can expect both lines to be productive on the scoring sheet as this team has a strong one - two scoring punch.
Also, don't forget the blue line has the capability to add to the offense as well.
Kovalchuk is dangerous as any on the line proving that last year with 117 points. Malenko was a point per gamer last year, and if Kiaskov can bring his offence to the back end that's three high scoring defence men. And eventually Thunder Foot will be coming into his own as well.

If Seattle doesn't hit 300 goals against the opposition this year something's wrong. They've already scored 18 goals in three games, so that should tell you what they're capable of as a club.
                                                                                                                                 ========
                                                                                                                                [ Defence ]
                                                                                                                                 ========
The Bears have only allowed five. goals against in their first three games. Only Toronto has less with four.
Roger Sterling has played superbly this far with a 0.923 SV %. and  1.67 GAVG. He's even earned a shutout this early in the season.
With the steady presence of Seattle's four blue liners and stellar team play of the forwards, and especially on special team's if this club continues its ways they should be a top three team and definitely a leading cup contender.

    1. Yes, I prefer it although I am probably a bit better at soccer but I think soccer is really boring to watch.
    2. Not intentionally. The name John Madden is just a bit of a meme with my friends. I don't know where it came from but we would always randomly say it during class and such. Moonbase Alpha had something to do with it. I had no idea at the time that John Madden was the football legend which EA's Madden series is named after or that there was an NHL player with that name.
    3. Yes, but not a very high level. I'm a huge NHL nerd though and I love playing GM and Be A Pro type games as well as doing interviews like this and pretending you are a real professional athlete.
    4. I hope to be a name that will be remembered. Doesn't matter how people remember me, as long as they do.
    5. Ah no, my player is under-aged as well as my real-life self. (Both 17) But when I turn 18, you can expect to find the local liquor stores out of stock everyday during the off-season. I always stay in bad shape until there's a week left before the season and then I start working out and getting in shape. When I start, I'm usually pretty out of it and I often get better and better as the season goes on.

Exlaxchronicles reacted to Dangles13 in Axlesson Traded to Seattle, Again!
All roads lead to Rome Seattle. Somehow, Otto Axelsson, and his predecessor Asher Donovan before him, always end up back in Seattle. The Bears organization apparently enjoys having the players from this agency and makes a point to go out an acquire them via trade. While Axelsson is not a superstar player, he is a capable top 6 forward who seems to take a step forward each season. Otto is nearing the end of his career which has seen him win one cup and produce at a pedestrian rate but he brings a strong veteran leadership presence that could be huge for the young up and coming Bears team.

This marks the third time that the Swede has been traded; once from Calgary to Seattle after it looked like Otto would never become a VHL regular, once from Seattle to Davos when Seattle committed to rebuilding and lastly after Davos committed to rebuilding after failing to make the Finals. Many players go their whole careers without switching franchises so this gives Otto a somewhat unique perspective on the league. The center turned winger turned center again has seen three separate locker rooms, three different coaching philosophies and three unique management styles. That experience is valuable and could see Axelsson enter into a management role once his career is over and done with.

Otto finds out he's been traded back to Seattle

The Bears have informed Otto that he will be starting the season as their second line center and will likely spend most of the season there. Seattle also sent over a binder with some of their new coaching philosophies, the Bears have changed drastically since Otto last donned the red jersey. During the course of the summer, Otto has been working tirelessly on his faceoffs so that he can give his team possession on a consistent basis. While the reports are unconfirmed, sources have said that it looks like the speedy is winger is speedy no more; the swift-skating Swede appears to have lost a step as father time has started to catch up with him. However, those same sources have indicated that Axelsson has gotten stronger since last we saw him; he looks a little bigger and his shot has improved drastically.

The Bears had a much better season than expected last year so their general manager went out and acquired some top-flight players and now they appear poised for a few good runs at glory in the coming seasons. The Bears likely won't finish as the top team in the league but they have enough pieces in place to see them secure a playoff spot. Can the additions of former MVP, Gabe McAllister offset the growing pains of a youthful roster? Has the Seattle manager done enough to push the Bears to the cusp of greatness and if so, does that make him a shoe-in for GM of the year? Only time will tell, as they say, but fans of the team have a lot to be excited about. This team is young and hungry and you should be afraid of the Bears.

@hedgehog337your times coming brother. It was Bana's acquisition of McAll and Axl plus I wanted to switch to D and he actually asked if I would be Willing. Quebec was my first choice as I have a history with Beave ( He brought me here ) but he has good depth all around and he wanted a forward in me ( not literally! )
You have a young good high scoring club but I felt you needed that extra "Ironside" to take you to another level. If you would've acquired him and offered for me to switch to D, I would've said yes.
I think at this time Bana is going for it this season by grabbing those forwards so it seemed the best choice for me at a cup.

Ok...First off I'd like to thank all the GM's that took the time and effort in contacting and showing interest in me so its much appreciated.
Now this wasn't an easy decision as all the GM's made a solid case as to why it would be beneficial for me to join their perspective club.
After much deliberation and thought ( on my 30 minute lunch break ), I've come to the conclusion that all the GM's who've PM'd me offer me the opportunity at the chance to hoist a cup come seasons end ( You guys' know I'm dragging this shit on purpose just to be a prick right?! )
I']ve now narrowed it down to three teams...In no particular order they are Quebec Meute, Riga Reign and finally Seattle Bears. Now let me drag this shit on a little longer to annoy the fuck outta some of you, plus I need a hundred and fifty words + for 2 TPE. (Going for five hundred now)

Three offers, three good contracts. With Quebec I go back to my old club. Solid offence and defence with recent trades for the future. They have good depth all around. Seattle offers high input offensively and rock steady goaltending with two solid defence men.
Riga has youthful exuberance with tonnes of talent.
I feel Quebec's recent trades will help them even more down the road.
Riga will make an impact this year with all that offensive talent and their time to shine will come.
With Seattle's recent trade for McAllister and Axelsson, they bolster their already potent offence.

I've been thinking of switching to defence since last season, and with what I've seen of the three teams I feel since I'm soon to retire, I have one last kick at the cat.
Sooooooo. I'm making a move to D and the club that get the nod is....Seattle Bears. Thanks again @Beaviss and @hedgehog337 for your interest. Best of luck this season !

I need a hundred and thirty one more words to get this to the five hundred work count for six TPE so I'm adding to this.
Season sixty three should be an entertaining and hard fought race to the top. Last years victor's Calgary beat out Quebec  in the seventh game. It was a good fought series but can we expect cow town to repeat once again?
With all the wheeling and dealings this past two weeks each contending club has done what it could to shore up their chances to host the cup. Expect Calgary, Riga, Quebec and Seattle to be scrapping it out to be top dog this season. My prediction is that Calgary will be hard pressed to win again. And I can see these four clubs battling it out to be the best this year. May the best team win.....Seattle.

Expect Calgary, Riga, Quebec and Seattle to be scrapping it out to be top dog this season. My prediction is that Calgary will be hard pressed to win again. And I can see these four clubs battling it out to be the best this year. May the best team win.....Seattle.

    Team Management
It's been quite awhile since I gave you a big Portal update! That's because this one is by the far the largest and most complex addition to the Portal to date - this is the Team Management system. As you might guess, this all about managing teams. It's very comprehensive and covers pretty much all aspects of roster management, finances, contracts and transactions. Obviously some of this will be for GM-use only, so I'm going to break it up by GM and public stuff.

This system hugely cuts down on a TON of administrative tasks. Finances are 100% automatically generated, draft picks are automatically tracked as they are traded, players are moved between teams automatically, ect. Not only is this a huge benefit to the people actually doing these tasks, but really everyone because everything will be assured to be up-to-date. I also think it will be a great simple and streamlined system for our new members - for example when a VHLM team makes them an offer to join their team, they get a notification that leads them straight to their Contract Management page where they can accept/decline an offer.

    For General Manager's
Both VHL & VHLM GM's will have access to a Team Management page, the hub of the new system. This area allows them to manage their rosters in all respects: offer contracts/bonuses, release players, send-downs/callups, conduct trades with other teams, sign players through FA and set their trade block, which is visible to other GM's.

The system is fully integrated with the Forum's notification system - GM's get notifications when they receive a trade offer, players get notified when they get a contract offer or they're traded or they're released or they're drafted - everything. Our friendly @VHL Bot will also take care of posting trade and FA threads on the forum, to facilitate forum discussion.

Virtually all rules/processes are built-in and automatic. For example, for VHL GM's, Inactive FA's priority ranking and 12 hour claim limits are fully enforced and automated. When Trades are made during the season, the appropriate salary percentage is automatically retained. If a player has an NTC, the player will get a notification to waive/deny it and the trade won't be processed until it's waived. Basically I've done what I could to leave no stone un-turned here.

    For Everyone
    Contract Management
Everyone now has a 'My Contract' button in their Player Mgmt area. This area allows players to manage all things contract: it's where you will accept/decline extensions or FA offers, waive or deny NTC's, and pickup or decline Options.

Drafts (Use the VHL/VHLM button to switch leagues)
One of the coolest parts, in my opinion. I already mentioned that the Draft Pick tracker is fully automated. What I didn't mention is that Draft's themselves will be conducted on the Portal via a generated and live-updating draft board. I've set up the S63 drafts for you to take a look at - when drafts are open, the board will update automatically every 15 seconds as GM's make selections. Player's are removed from the available players list as they are picked. Additionally, commish's are able to make picks on teams behalf's in case they need to send a list. There's also a handy function to automatically BPA a pick.

As you would expect, players are automatically added to rosters as they are picked.

Free Agency (Use the VHL/VHLM button to switch leagues)
When FA is open, you can navigate Free Agency and see all the offers player's have received. When Free Agency is closed, a list of upcoming Free Agents is shown.

Trades (Use the VHL/VHLM button to switch leagues)
Another cool part is the trade log. I think it has a fairly nice display to it, and when the VHL Bot makes the forum post, the URL is added to the trade - making it easy to go to the Forum and view the discussion on that particular trade.

    New Team Pages
Team Pages have been overhauled and are looking much cleaner. You can view each teams rosters, draft picks, and transactions. For VHL teams, you can also view their Finance sheet. You might notice team pages are missing some of the team stats and stuff that they used to have - these will be coming back, but now that Teams actually exist as a Portal DB record, I need to reconfigure some of the stats to link with teams directly.

Overall, I think this is going to simplify things greatly, not just for us as the administrators but everyone. Having all this stuff stored in the Portal opens up a ton of possibilities for the future, some of which I may or may not already have plans for. Lastly, bit of a disclaimer, like I said - this is far and away the largest and most complex piece of the Portal. I've done pretty substantial testing but you know, issues are inevitable, so if anything comes up just let me know and I'll get it fixed as soon as possible.

Other than that, if you have any questions, ask them here.

Pretty good, bought a house, gutting it and doing renovations right now. Trivia will wrap up when the finals do next week if that's what you were wondering.
