Grape got a reaction from v.2 in Should Recreates Have a Choice?
The trade deadline has come and passed, and so too has the wave of recreates. This surge of “new” players breathes life into the VHLM and bolsters both rosters and locker rooms. While this is overall a good thing, as more activity in the VHLM leads to a greater experience for first gens, it also impacts the league in a pretty negative way in my opinion. As of writing this, if my counting is right, there are 14 returning members that have signed with a team. All but one team has gotten a returning member, with Saskatoon being the lone team to not bring in any returning member (you could also include Ottawa since their returning member is a pure VHLM lifer and basically recreates every season now).. While that in itself is fine, one must look at the distribution of the other five returning members. Those five members went to two teams, San Diego and Miami. Another fun fact: ALL of Miami’s waiver players are returning members, and ALL but ONE of San Diego’s are also returners. Think about that. San Diego, the top team in the VHLM, has four returning members who have all pretty much broken the 100 TPE mark and continue to boost this team in the standings. Miami, while not as good as San Diego, is also feeling the influx of production from their wave of returners. Returning members coming to a team and making them better is not a new revelation. What team is not going to benefit from getting a player with some extra TPE in their pocket at the start? But the real question is, is it fair? Is it fair that returning members turn a stacked team into an even more stacked team, taking away playing time from new creates who have been having themselves a good season, only to get shafted? Is it fair for the struggling teams with new players to not get that extra veteran experience? Is it fair for returning members to basically cup chase right out of the gate? I understand going to a team because you have a personal relationship with the GM or something like that. I’ve done that before, albeit when I did that team was kinda in the shitter, but, especially in San Diego’s case, this just seems like blatant cup chasing. The only way for this league to survive is to bring in new members, give them a positive experience, and retain them. Stacking a single team or two while pretty much ignoring every other team does not help facilitate it. Obviously, returning members likely would not want to go to the bottom teams in the league and basically play for a week or two max and dip out, but there’s no need for a big chunk of them to go and make the best team in the league even better. Spread the wealth around, actually make the race to first look competitive. At the very least, implement a system in which roughly an even distribution of returning members, in which a team cannot get three until every other team gets two, or something along those lines. It just seems extremely unfair to GMs and players alike that returning members can just come in and choose to cup chase right out of the gate.

Grape got a reaction from JardyB10 in Is it time for the Pride flag on the Discord logo to be removed?
I for one would like the logo color to be constantly changing, as it really helps breathe life into the server. Holidays? Holiday themed logo. VHL champion? VHL champion themed logo. WJC winners? WJC winner themed logo. etc. etc. etc. Have some fun with it. Stagnation is not a good look and while I have no quarrel with the pride-themed logo, it's time for a fresh coat of paint.

Grape reacted to jRuutu in ToS a forum game run by a rival league to break the spirits of the good people of VHL?
Town of Salem is a game that is played through the forum, you can find Town of Salem from the "Spam and games" - section of VHL if you are curious.  What I am going to talk about this next is not the game itself, but those who participate in the game. I spent who knows how long analyzing the user profiles of those who have signed up for the "ToS2: The Very First" - edition. In total 15 users signed up. Of those 15 users: 20% of users are welfare users, 20% of the users claim affiliate point tasks, and icing on the cake: 13,33% of the users do not have a player in VHL.  The rest have jobs and do point tasks in VHL.

The very first thought that came into my mind when I analyzed the data was: should welfare users be allowed to post in the forums? I am not talking about the "point task" sections, but everywhere else. I think welfare users should have to earn the privilege to post by doing at least one week of point tasks. Then when next week comes by they can post as much as they want to other sections. When they stop doing the point tasks the full posting rights are taken away. The benefit of a system like that is the welfare users get to feel a sense of accomplishment, similar to logging in and pushing a few buttons now, but on another level.

The second thought that came to mind was: over 50% of the users who play the game have time to play the game, but they don't have the time to do points tasks in VHL.  I started to wonder is it because the product that is VHL is not as exciting as the Town of Salem? In the game you get to interact with other users, which is something you are not able to do - on the same level, in the current state of VHL with Discord General chat being more heavily policed than a beach that is sometimes visited by sharks, the mere sight of a fin is enough to halt all activities for days. Even if there is no shark in the water for sure, the very second you see the army of moderators - do you want to try your luck? Do you want to jump into the water? In the end, the moderators are the real sharks.  When 13% of the users somehow managed to find the game even without having a player in VHL - that speaks volumes about the pull power of the Town of Salem.

The third thought that came to mind was: should the Town of Salem be banned? It is one thing to get together with friends online and have fun, but do you have to do that in VHL? Some of us are trying to do point tasks over here, it's really hard as is without having to watch and listen to semi-actives frolic around like VHL is someplace where you can just come to hang out to play games. VHL is a serious organization and league with serious policies in place that ensure everybody can get an equal amount of enjoyment out of their VHL experience.  Activities that promote the maximum amount of fun, such as the Town of Salem, are leading people astray as the authentic VHL experience is all about hard work, dedication, and patience. When users participate in games like Town of Salem, they start to associate VHL with fun times with friends, which is not what VHL is all about. For that reason, in my opinion, the Town of Salem should be a game for those who do point tasks in VHL.

    Hi everyone,

@Viper has notified the VHLM Commissioners that he would like to step down as the Saskatoon Wild GM effective immediately. We're very appreciative of his contributions to the team and are sad to see him go.

We are officially looking to hire an interim GM who we hope can remain as the permanent GM. Due to the importance of having someone in the role to assist the players, we will take on a pure interim as well if needed. This hiring process will be expedited so please apply quickly if interested.

Serious applications only, will delete anything other than those. Reach out if you have any questions!

Grape got a reaction from Frank in How All My Players Were Snubbеd
I will be completely honest, none of my players have necessarily been snubbеd, so to speak. I have made four players at this point, none of them particularly a superstar by any means, but theme week is theme week and I want that bonus TPE so I guess I will give it a try and find something for each player that I can label as being snubbеd.

    Player 1: Blake Laughton

My first player, created way back in season 66. In the VHLM draft, he did some snubbing of his own, being picked ahead of multiple, arguably better players at the time, despite not doing a single point task or even claiming any TPE to that point. Yet, because of the anime connection, was able to be picked decently high at the time and put onto a stacked Houston team. Of course, due to sabotaging their own growth, was pretty much rotting in the bottom six, eventually leading them to be traded to Ottawa to help Houston push for the championship. I guess I can count that as the first time they were snubbеd, a loyal Houston player disregarded for some high TPE player. Womp womp I guess. Didn’t amount to anything for either team. Houston didn’t even sniff the finals and Ottawa made a push the next season and fell short. Fast forward to the VHL draft, Laughton gets drafted to the Malmo Nighthawks (I guess he had a thing for expansion teams), and the season in which he would make the jump to the VHL, he was moved to New York, snubbеd by his draft team without even given a chance. He played one season with New York, in which nothing really came from it, then moved again to another expansion team in Prague, so snubbеd again. He simply was not good enough for any team, except for Prague I guess, where he spent pretty much the rest of his career, stopping for a cup of coffee in Helsinki and being sent back to Prague to finally retire a Phantom.

    Player 2: Shawty Nananana

A pure-passing defenseman, and was probably treated the best in terms of being snubbеd. They return to Houston and has a damn good season, but, next season comes around, Houston is in their tank phase, and despite wanting to stay in Houston, they were snubbеd for some draft picks and sent off to Halifax, where they have a great season, but end up losing out in the playoffs. After that, there really was not any more snubbing going on for the rest of their career, spending the entirety of their time in the VHL with Davos. I guess in a sense they were snubbеd of playing for a good team, but besides that it was a pretty lackluster career in the snubbеd department.

    Player 3: Bob Vladovechsenkchushkin

This player is the one that has been snubbеd the most, in a couple major ways. VHLM went totally unsnubbеd, given a big role and stuck with the team that drafted me. Went up into the E, played two games, and was immediately traded to Vasteras. Why, I don’t know. Whatever. But in my time with Vasteras, came the biggest snub of my entire time with the VHL. I am someone who likes to do meme builds, and the idea with Vladovechsenkchushkin was to basically be a pure checking and fighting forward with stone hands and no skating ability whatsoever. However, the Vasteras GM got on my ass about it, telling me to use the free reroll with the hybrid attributes and actually make a good player. So, reluctantly, my fun meme build was snubbеd for something actually useful. It was something that pained me so, as now I have to be a positive contributor on my team. That was not the last of the snubbing, however. The VHL team that drafted me, Helsinki, decided I wasn’t gonna be good enough for them and they’d rather have someone else, so off I went to LA. Played a couple seasons there, tuned up my build, got snubbеd for a younger player, shipped off to Calgary. Had a damn good season in Calgary, but they couldn’t afford me, so I was traded to Davos. Davos snubbеd me, got traded to Vancouver. Vancouver snubbеd me, got traded to Malmo. Sign a one year deal with Malmo, have a decent season, then back on the market I go. On the market, I was snubbеd by Helsinki a SECOND time, even after they said that they were heavily interested in having me. I guess they changed their mind, then shipped me off to Vancouver. In the last season of their career, Vancouver basically told me they didn’t have the money to keep me around, and wanted to replace me with a younger player, and at that point, I said screw it, I’m not going through that whole song and dance again, and retired.

Player 4: Obuz Schneider Canet du Bocage

Obuz is barely into their long and prosperous career, and already they have been snubbеd. One of the few premier French players eligible for the World Juniors, and they were snubbеd for some random schmuck, and was therefore forced to represent Team Asia instead of the region with their home country. A great insult to Obuz, who always dreamed of one day showcasing his talents on behalf of his great nation. Although, Obuz himself snubbеd the Stockholm Vikings, choosing to stay and play for Halifax of the VHLM instead of going to Europe and playing for the team that drafted them, and plans to completely skip the VHLE altogether and go straight to the show, where hopefully they will go through the rest of their career unsnubbеd.

    - Also obligatory snubbеd every single draft because I wasn’t taken first overall and also snubbеd by every team for not trying to make absolutely ludicrous offers to bring any of my players in, despite them totally being the best player in the league.

    - Also snubbеd for best GM every single season I’ve been a GM just because I was too good and the league didn’t want to have to give the award to the same person every single season for the rest of my tenure.

Grape got a reaction from Triller in How All My Players Were Snubbеd
