Your Houston Bulls are S68 Founder's Cup Champions!

We have good and bad seasons boys but here we are, making history. I know that next season will be tough because of many reasons - Sean McGee, our backbone and the best goalie in VHLM will probably move to VHL, Khalabib Stiopic, beast from Cocos islands is heading to VHL, Soren Jensen, one of the best players I have had pleasure having on the roster, Nate Telker is going to make a name for himself in VHL. All of the Howe's that are going into VHLM Draft will be scattered around and we will see them on many different teams. We did it with guys who will become legends and win cups and awards in VHL, guys who are amazing presence in the LR and I am fortunate to have you all on our team. We can't pass on without saying a word about our captain Edu Stava who has been amazing as our 2nd line centre and guys like Ferdinando Jokinen and Erik Summers who helped us be the best defensive team in VHLM!

This is for all of you guys and I can't say big enough thanks! Let's party now and enjoy every moment of it!

    WE DID IT!

SweetMike666 reacted to FrostBeard in ECN's "VHL Now!" 7th Edition "First playoff spot clinched"
Has it already been a week? Hello everyone, ECN is back with you again with another edition of ECN’s “VHL Now!” – Your most reliable way how to get all of the important information about current VHL season.

    A new record in VHL?

With the season going full swing we are seeing truly interesting things happen all around VHL and one of them is a new record set by of the best players in VHL right now! Kronos Bailey in game 200 (Moscow 6 – 1 Helsinki) received 27 penalty minutes. At the start of the game, K.Bailey already received 2 PIM for unsportsmanlike conduct and that was only a beginning. He took tripping, hooking, charging penalties, spent time instead of A.Pepper in the penalty and in the received a major penalty for fighting and game misconduct for the instigated fight. With 27 penalty minutes, he currently holds the record for most PIM in a single game.

Rauno Palo, Leader of the Wolfpack

It has a been a true journey for all the top players and it is quite clear that with a new person taking a spot as the leading scorer in VHL, Rauno Palo is showing the reason why Vancouver deserves recognition as a powerhouse. Rauno Palo has gained 14 point lead over last week’s leader Beau Louth and is having 7 more points than his closest contender Podrick Cast. It is clear that Vancouver and Rauno Palo are here to make an impact in playoffs and their ability to score and be productive on Powerplay is the biggest tool they have. With combined 121 points, their first powerplay unit lead by Rauno Palo is lethal and should be feared by every team in VHL. Who knows, maybe we are looking at this season’s league MVP?

Toronto has clinched a playoff spot

It should not be a real surprise to anyone that Toronto is the best team in the VHL right now by a longshot. With 20 point lead over the next best team, they are the cup favourites. With a roster that consists mainly of star players and truly seasoned veterans, it is actually surprising that they have only managed to win 42 games out of 56. It should be pointed out that probably the most important thing that Toronto has to look at and figure out how to improve is their powerplay. Toronto Legion currently has 4th worst Powerplay percentage and that might prove to be their Achilles heel. Even though there are quite a few questions about their ability to keep this level of activity in playoffs, we believe that their discipline on ice and chemistry will prove to be a strong weapon to counter their weak powerplay.

    Calgary – Seattle trade

One of the most interesting and lopsided trades this season was between Calgary Wranglers and Seattle Bears. The trade involved sending Bears star centre Joel Ylonen to Calgary and getting in return a promising young winger John Frostbeard, a defenceman (now a centreman) Maxim Kovalchuk and an S69 3rd Round pick. It should be pointed out that Calgary was lacking offence from their first line, so a trade for a pass-first centre was needed. With that trade, Calgary is hoping that their core players will be able to push and succeed in playoffs in seasons to come. Right now, for a young and promising team like Seattle, this trade seemed to be a no-brainer. They were able to get a young winger that perfectly fits their age group with other talented players, they were able to acquire an older player that can prove to be a great mentor and they got an additional pick that could be used to snag up another player similar to John Frostbeard in S69 draft. With this trade, it shows that Calgary was truly desperate as they gave up an extremely huge amount of assets for a playoff run that at least in S67 will not reward them with the cup as there are many deeper and better-built teams around.

For this week, this will be it! Truly hopeful you liked ECN’s newest post and starting from next week we shall be featuring prospect interviews for the upcoming S68 VHL Entry draft! Have fun and ECN wishes you the best time on and off the ice!

SweetMike666 reacted to Elmebeck in Elmebeck rookie profile [1/2]
    Fredrik Elmebeck, D
    183 cm/6'0", 79 kg/174 lbs, age 18
    Hometown: Ask, Östergötland, Sweden

Elmebeck is probably the best up and coming D prospect in VHLM entering S67 so far. The vocal youth has perhaps not impressed in points with only 11 points in 21 games, but has been second on Houston Bulls in both +/- and shots blocked, with "an eye for how to position himself" according to GM @FrostBeard.

As a Swedish product Elmebeck is extremely creative and with good skating for his age, but what stands out is his positioning defensively.

Skating: Fredrik's skating has improved a lot with the coaches in Houston, especially forward top speed and being more agile when skating backwards.
"I really want to get better too," he says, "watching players like @Elhandon and how he can move over the ice is so impressive and a goal of mine."

Creativity: "Growing up and playing in Sweden I think I got a lot from playing on a larger ice, you can really build up your eye for the ice. Sure, it's faster in North America, but I feel like what I learned on a bigger ice is even more applicable."
Elmebeck currently has most of his points, 9 out of 11, in assists and has increased almost 50% according to coaches, with more to follow.

Defensive: Great positioning is clear from having the best +/- record and most shots blocked by all Houston Bull defensivemen, trailing @banko and @fin_daddy in hits.
@Dalton Wilcox reminices, "I made a really bad play, I could see @StaticShocked ahead of me and knew I had made a huge mistake with losing the puck. But as I looked behind me Elmebeck was there and saved the play. His positioning is second to none!""

Elmebeck has gotten a lot of flack for being a bit vocal, attacking teammates and opposition alike.

Fighting: "I never saw @BarzalGoat fight, so I don't know why that is levied at Fredrik", @Sixersfan549 said in an impromptu interview. And as hockey has lost a lot of the fighting element in recent years it's certainly true that Elmebeck would not be a a great leverage to put some energy into the team by fighting. @Peace went as far as calling the Swede "Coward."

Checking: Elmebeck is following the European mold of not being very physical, rather working with his feet and head. "We've been trying to work up his physique though," GM @FrostBeard offered, "I think he has to grow a bit more and be able to hit harder in order to play well here."

Puckhandling: While not bad the puckhandling, it does need work, and VHL teams looking to draft Elmebeck should probably keep an eye on his development there.

Elmebeck is one of the more impressive new players for S67, especially as a relatively balanced defensive player with a great drive to improve.
"He's a darling when he's not irritating you, and with such a massive talent that I am sure will just explode," @SweetMike666 added.
Fredrik Elmebeck is playing second line defence for Houston Bulls, 11 points in 21 games.

SweetMike666 reacted to VanCanWin in Vancouver Wolves Swag
Let me start this team marketing article with two thoughts.

    1. I smell a Vancouver Wolves logo overhaul coming in the near future as it was definitely a challenge to work with. At the same time, I think the outcome of my team swag ordeal is alright but I’ll let you decide that for yourself.

    2. There is a cute Michael Gary Scott bobblehead (@Motzaburger I hope you approve lol) that I am petitioning the Wolves to turn into a fan giveaway night in one of their upcoming home games.  This is shown at the bottom of this page.

Now for the swag. I hope you all feel compelled to add these items to your cart and wear the Wolves clothing proudly!

I started my design with a team ball cap since every team needs one of these. In the end, I came out with two designs that both worked really well and so I decided to produce both of them.

Besides the ball caps, I was looking to diversify the clothing line with some classics as well as some original ideas. This being the third team I have designed swag for, new ideas are always a must. First, let me give you the classics.

Here I have a tee shirt and a sweat shirt.  The tee shirt is a classic sports tee shirt with a clean two toned look to it.

The sweat shirt is a bit more unique but still a sweat shirt is a classic none-the-less. The design features a simple team name writing on the front with a large wolf on the back. The hood is patterned with wolf fur.

Lastly, I’ve designed a few collectibles and useful items with team logos and colours on it.  The two items I chose were the lunch box / cooler and a coffee mug.

As for the potential fan giveaway in Vancouver, here is a Michael Gary Scott bobblehead.

    Thanks for viewing!

I could live with you being an Oilers Fan but now that you admitted you are a Sharks Fan I will have a hard time dealing with this fact. However, hate the individual teams and not the fans but the Shark Tank is not one of the friendliest places for opposing teams fans. That being said I enjoyed your Biography. It appears you had a hard long road to the VHLM/VHL and are destined for greatness. I suggest that your player gets pumped up in the Gym to not be outweighed so much and that your agent does the heavy lifting with point task like writing and such. Try to get every TPE available if you can and you will skyrocket in TPE in just a few short seasons! Hope to see you on the ice very soon and sorry if I run you into the boards... it's what I do!

WHAT`S GOOD EVERYONE!  As we all know, VHL draft has ended and we saw a lot of young talents and prospects drafted. That is why I decided to write about players that I think will thrive in VHL from the start. And the first one on the list is a player that I thought would be taken in the 1st round but fell to 12th position and now is a part of New York Americans - his name is ACL TEAR.

VHLM CAREER - looking at ACL`s VHLM career the offensive numbers are not the most impressive, but the defensive numbers are ridiculous. This man had more than 200 hits (202 to be precise) and 104 blocked shots. He loves to play with a lot of energy and will look to end every shift with a big hit on his opposition. In his first season, he played only 12 games and had 36 hits. But in his sophomore season, he was a big part of Ottawa Lynx team. He and his team got to the VHLM finals where they lost to Philadelphia Reapers in 5 games. That was one of the most interesting and best finals I had seen in a long time. Even though he only had 11 goals and 16 assists in the regular season, he was a plus 22 which shows his qualities in the defensive end. In my opinion, his biggest strength is his energy levels. He comes out in overtime with the same speed and the same energy as he did in the first minute of the first period.

WHAT MAKES HIM GREAT? First of all, this man is a 6`8, 250 pounds monster. And when you see him skate - it seems impossible to skate that fast with a frame like that. He should be an Avenger, not a hockey player because ACL TEAR looks like Hulk that was bitten by the same spider as Peter Parker and now he has some crazy spider senses. Imagine being a defenseman that is going after a puck at the boards and you see this monster coming your way and when he hits you - that board glass shatters faster than the glass in Stone Cold Steve Austin entrance song. And when he gets the puck and holds it - there is a bigger chance moving Putin out of the president`s chair than this man off the puck. So if he keeps getting stronger, keeps his aggression up and in the offseason can work on his offensive game, I think that next season he will be one of the best players on the New York team. Imagine if ACL TEAR has a shot that is as precise as Panarin`s, he might get a 7 year - 81.5 million dollar contract ( oh and around 45 - 50 goals as well).  And if hockey does not work out for him, he can just replace Iron Man and mess with Thanos.  Because if ACL is saving our asses from Thanos, I ain`t scared.

SweetMike666 reacted to VanCanWin in Hot Takes with Van
    Introduction
This article is the first in what I hope to make a series of Hot Takes. My takes will be bold predictions of the future. I will be covering both the VHL and VHLM teams as well as individual players.  Feel free to call me out if you wish on some of these especially if/when I am proven completely wrong in my predictions.

    Disclaimer
All the predictions will be made in good fun though some may not be too complimentary of different teams and/or players.  I hold no ill will to anyone.

    Seattle Bears
    Scenario
After 3 years being a top team, twice with the best record, Seattle tanked last season in regards to both the standings and in trading away players for picks. Now sitting with 8(!) picks in the first 2 rounds, Seattle is primed to expedite the rebuild and return to the top of the league.

    Hot take
Of the 8 picks Seattle will make, only 2 of the players drafted will still be on the team when they win again... in S68.

    Mexico City
    Scenario
Mexico City started last year well defensively and finished better than they probably should have.  GM Nykonax is an unorthodox GM who has been left in charge of Mexico City to try turn the franchise into a winner.

    Hot take
Not only will Nykonax fail to turn Mexico City around, but Mexico will finish DEAD LAST next season.  The locker room will be a mess with all the losing and Nykonax will be forced to trade whatever he has of value at the deadline.

    Lincoln Tate @Tate

    Scenario
Lincoln Tate burst into the VHLM in S66 with an incredible 20 goals, 66 assists for San Diego. Tate earned TPE at an incredible rate of 24.8 (!) per week. He is currently the 15th ranked prospect in rjfryman’s Live S67 Draft Rankings. Tate will be going to the VHL next season after just one incredible year in San Diego.

    Hot take
Lincoln Tate is only the 15th ranked prospect heading into the draft but clearly is better than that. Lincoln should be the number one pick on draft night! In 5 seasons, when a redraft media spot is published, Lincoln will be listed at number 1. There is a future spot reserved for Lincoln Tate in the Hall-of-Fame.

    To summarize:
    - Seattle will won the cup in S68 with only 2 of the players they selected in the S67 draft still on their roster
    - Mexico City will hold a fire sale next season on their way to finishing DEAD LAST in the VHLM
    - Lincoln Tate will be ranked first overall in a redraft in 5 seasons from now on his way to a Hall of Fame career

That is my three Hot Takes for this week. Hope you all enjoyed.

Congrats to all who got drafted in the VHLM draft last night and good luck to all those who hope to hear their name called tonight in a milestone moment for each one of you!  The off season can’t end soon enough... we need some hockey around here again!

    ECN's "VHL Now!"
    4th Edition "Off-season!"

Welcome to next edition of “VHL Now!” and we are back here with Off-season that has just started. Even though Draft and Free-agency is yet to come, there have been plenty of trades we can analyse and think who is gonna lose their spot as a contender and who will take their place!

Riga. Isn’t that already a sentence of something unexpected? Riga in last 2 days has made trades that not only exchanged quality players for draft picks but added to that allowed them to get 1st Overall pick in S67 VHL draft! One interesting question is – why Riga made a trade to acquire E.Dahlberg and P.Svoboda? Isn’t that a weird move considering they moved both Randoms and Podrick Cast just a few hours later?

At ECN’s we consider this to be a truly excellent move by GM Hedgehog as he understood that there have to be some roster changes after a truly embarrassing Playoff run. By trading away two players, adding two, shuffling around a few picks and ending up with 1st Overall just shows how you can be a contender and at the same time draft high. Let’s hope that the 1st Overall that Riga will choose will be dominant and pair extremely well with HHH.

Moscow/Vancouver trade was intriguing and interesting as Vancouver decided to trade away their Number 1 goaltender in Roger Sterling and got back a solid backup in Chase. The question stands – why this move? Vancouver is still be considered a contender, so unless they have a secret backup plan of going all in on some other upcoming trade or free agent, there is a big chance that they might move down a step and be a Cup hopeful.

ECN views this as a huge bargain because even though there is a goalie in Free agency that had the career year in Brick Wahl, it will hard to make Wranglers All-star to not take the deal that Calgary will offer.

Upcoming VHL and VHLM drafts are quite strong when it comes to talent. All rounds feature potential Star players, so it will be interesting to see how teams will use their assets. We at ECN believe that this year will be most valuable for teams like Seattle and Davos who have a plethora of picks to use. Seattle’s 9 picks in first 4 rounds of the draft will have a great chance at helping them to become a playoff and cup contender in the upcoming seasons. For a team like Malmo, this draft will only add to their successful first season in VHL and in the end, we might even see more moves by GM Advantage at the draft!

    Question of VHL Expansion?

There has been a talk that with the rising amount of players in VHL this past seasons we are at a troubling position as ice-time will once again be a problem and players will be forced to play less than 15 minutes per game. Considering how short player career is, ice-time could push some of the players away from a chance to one day be a Hall of Fame Inductee. So the question is simple – do we expand or should we consider other alternatives like an affiliate league between VHL and VHLM?

That is gonna be it for this weeks ECN’s “VHL Now!” If you have any ideas on how to make ECN better, write to our Chief Editor Frostbeard. As always, this is brought to you by Frostbeard Entertainment.

An extraordinary story about a small, skinny boy that got to live his dreams far away from home.

    Childhood

It all started 19 years ago in Cocos Islands in Indian ocean, where a young women gave birth to a handsome child and named him Khalabib. Khalabib was never home - he enjoyed staying outside, especially at night, when he was looking for wildlife in the jungle. We all know that jungle comes alive at night and so did this young mans love for the beautiful game we call hockey. When young Stiopic was awake at night, he and his father turned on TV and suddenly he saw something that he had never seen before - an ice. Suddenly his face changed and he asked his father: "What is that?!?!" From that moment on he knew that he wanted to be a hockey player. But there was a small problem - he lived in an island that was so cloce to the Equator that the coldest days were +25 Celsius. As he was not able to play hockey, his dad got him rollerskates for his 7th birthday. As young Khalabib Stiopic started to attend to school, he sat next to a boy that was obbsessed with running. He could run for hours and hours and not get tired. This was a blessing in the sky - Khalabibs dad owned a large resort chain in Cocos islands, so both boys had a chance to do what they love - Khalabib could rollerskate around the streets in the resort and his friend could run. After couple of months his friend bought rollerskates as well and they changed their roles - now Khalabib was running. Both of them had hockey sticks  - Khalabib`s friend loved being a goalie. And only few know that Khalabib`s friend was Carter Hart. This is when both of them understood that they will do everything they can to become great hockey players.

    Canada

At age of 12, Khalabib`s dad offered his son a chance to move to Canada to pursue his dream to become a hockey player. Eventough it was hard, he believed that this is a sign from God and he has to take this chance because the second may never come around again. So at age 12 young Khalabib moved to Canada, to Edmonton. From day one he became a huge Oilers fan (which was not as fun as he thought it would be). Young Khalabib had problems in Canada - the cold weather. This man was used to living in tropical climate. But now in Canada it is cold, you come out of the apartment and all you can see is cars and large buildings. But after few months there Khalabib saw that Canada is a beautiful country that is diverse and even the cold in winter couldn`t stop Khalabib Stiopic from going out and exploring this beautiful country.

    Hockey and only hockey

From day one Khalabib was all in with his dream of playing hockey. The coaches saw a young talent that was fast as lightning and had a vision of an eagle. In his first year playing in Edmonton for U-14 team as a defender he had 17 goals and 53 assists in 34 games. He was outstanding and became the best player on the team in no time. But as the years went on, he started to show one of his weaknesses - his small frame was not able to keep up as well with other hockey players. He was still producing pints while playing with U-16 team, but now he had some difficulties defensively - when the puck was at the boards, he would get showed off of it very easily. After his second season Khalabib changed hi training regime - he was trying to go to the gym 4x a week, but those were the worst training days because he hated them. But after few weeks Khalabib discovered that he loves leg days. So he had an idea - if I can get my legs and hips really strong, I would not get easily thrown off the puck. So this young man prioritised leg days. As the next season came, his coaches were shocked - he was much stronger than before but still was light and fast. Ofcourse, he would still get bullied at the boards or in front of the net, but the opposition had to make great effort to get him moved. After this season, Khalabib had a chance to play with junior team. And he took that chance.

    Showing signs of greatness

In 2014-2015 season Khalabib played with junior team. In the offseason he still trained the same as he did all the other years before. But now the men he ws playing against were less muscular but they had the thing called MAN POWER and they could get to Khalabib easily. But Khalabib was ready for this and he had a smart idea in mind. As they are much stronger, I can talk trash to them and when they get mad I can earn power play for my team. This was a good plan on paper. On ice, it was a bit different. Those strong players that had 30 pound advantage were veterans and knew when to hit or slash when referee was not able to see. So, he decided to do the same thing but when he was closer to refs. All I can say is that his startegy worked really well. But this strategy was really painful. But thats the player Khalabib Stiopic is - he will do anything for his team.

    Nightmare as an Oilers fan

In his first season with his Junior team, they won the cup. On 30th of June they decided to celebrate their victory. In 46 regular season games, Khalabib had 8 goals and 39 assists. In play offs - 3 goals and 7 assists in 16 games. As we all know, Oilers drafted Conor McDavid that year. That means that the boys had to celebrate that as well. But when Khalabib woke up the next morning he thought he was inside of a nightmare. The Oilers had signed Milan Lucic for 7 years carrying 6 million dollars. And this is the nightmare that hunts Khalabib till this day. He played for his Junior team for 3 more season until he was drafted in VHLM with 77 overall pick. In 4 seasons he played 149 games in regular season - 31 goals and 127 assists. In 29 play off games - 11 goals and 17 assists.

Khalabib`s road to VHLM was not the easiest but he wanted to show that as long as you are willing to do everything it takes to make your dreams come true, it is possible. And hard work will always outwork the talent. Look out for this young man in the future because he is ready to show his best.
P.S. In real life I am not an Oilers fan. I am Sahrks fan. so I like to make fun of the Oilers.

SweetMike666 got a reaction from Berocka in Khalabib Stiopic - Rookie Profile [1/2]
    Player Name: Khalabib Stiopic
    Age: 19
    Position: D
    Height: 72 in.
    Weight: 185 lbs.
    Birthplace: Cocos (Keeling) Islands

    KHALABIB STIOPIC

Khalabib Stiopic was born in Cocos Islands where it is not possible to play hockey. His father is a rich businessman that runs a resort company and he helped his son live his dreams and when Khalabib was 12 he sent him to Canada to play hockey. From day one he was fast on his skates and very strong on his legs. Right now he is looking to become one of the best young defenders in this league.
    PROS

Speed - Stiopic has always loved running. During his time in Cocos island he loved running barefoot around the beaches near his house. By doing that, he strenghtened his foot muscles which helps him to have better acceleration and we can see that on the ice as well. He likes to start the offense from his own end and dish out great first passes.  Not only is he really fast, he knows when  is the right time to slow down. Overall, his speed can make big problems for his opposition.
Defense -  Khalabib plays as a 2 way defender. He loves attacking, especially when he has the puck and he has great speed, but Khalabib always remembers to be back on the defensive end. His shotblocking is really good - in his rookie season he had 127 blocked shots, which was one of the best in his team. Stiopic loves aggresive game so he loves to make big hits on his opposition - he had 98 hits in his rookie season. His speed is the biggest helper on the defensive end. It helps Khalabib to get to the puck first and dump it out of the defensive zone. His defensive game can only grow and next season he will show big improvments.
Passing - in my opinion Khalabib Stipic`s greatest attribute. He is showing elite passing that is similar to Erik Karlsson or Oliver Ekman Larrson. He is always looking for a long break out pass that can send his winger one - on - one with goalie. Those passes rearly are unprecise and come out as icings. In his rookie season Khalabib had 34 assists in 74 games. You can see in games he has played he has great vision, he keeps his calm in his own end and keeps it simple, but if the opposition is going for a line change he will immediately find his teammate for a breakaway.

    CONS

Strenght - Khalabib Stiopic is not your tipical hockey player. He 6 foot, 185 pounds. Looking at Khalabib from the side he would look more like a 400 meter runner or a football player rather than a hockey player. He has strong but skinny legs and Khalabib only has 6% body fat. This helps him to faster than everyone else on the ice but he is loosing a lot of battles one - on - one at the boards where stronger players can push him if the puck only because they are weighing much more. In addition to this, Khalabib has never loved going to the weight room, but as he grows older he understands the importance of it and in this offseason is planning to gain much needed weight but still keep his speed.
Discipline - Stiopic always has loved a game that is fast and physical. He loves to make big hits but on lot of occasions he cannot keep his cool. He has always been a hothead and he loves to talk trash to other players. This poften leads to Khalabib making bad decisions that end with a minor penalty. Most of these penalties are after altercations with other team`s  players in his own defensive end. He loves to get trashed talked and will always try to have the last word. And this last word can end up with a 2 minute penalty, like interference or slashing.
Consistency - Khalabib has some stretches when he is playing well, keeping his cool and making great plays in both ends of the ice. But his biggest weakness is his inconsistency on the ice. He came in this league as a promising young talent, but after some bad stretches in his career he got traded. After the trade his consistency has gotten better but still he tends to have long cold stretches when he looks like a completely different player. On of the cold stretches happened right at the start of the playoffs where he only managed to get 1 point in 4 games and was -9 on the ice. But Khalabib is working with himself to become the greatest version that he can possibly for the entire season.

Khalabib Stiopic is a young player that has a lot of potencial. He is determined to become better everyday. He is working hard and everyone should look out for him because he is ready to take this league by storm.
