Zetterberg reacted to Ricer13 in Yukon Rush - MVP (Regular Season)
Alex Armstrong - Yukon Rush MVP

Recently the Yukon Rush handed out their end of season awards. The awards are handed out based on regular season performances by players on their roster. The MVP trophy is the only award that is actually voted on by the players. This marks the first season the Rush have began handing out awards and the first MVP as voted on by his peers is Alex Armstrong @dylanjj37. Alex signed this past off-season with the Rush as a free agent. The young Rush roster was looking to add to their already studded D-core that included the likes of Zyrok12 and Bo Burrows. Alex liked the opportunity of competing on a team that has a chance to win a championship and with this being is final season it was a no brainer for him. I want to break down the season that was for Alex and shine light on why his team voted him for MVP.

    The Player

Alex Armstrong is well liked among his peers. He has always had a strong presence in the locker room and contributes a lot to the overall activity of the team. He doesn't train as hard as some of the other players but he has put in enough work to be the most dominant defensemen in the VHLM this season. He was FISTED ANALLY BY A CIRCUS MONKEY of a leadership role this season which some think he wasn't to happy about but despite facing adversity he kept a positive attitude and proved the doubters wrong by having one of the best seasons a defensemen has had in the Yukon.

    The Statistics

Armstrong lead all defensemen in points this season in the VHLM. In 72 games played Alex had 127 points. That is 1st in defensemen scoring, 2nd in scoring on the Rush and 6th in scoring amongst all VHLM players. It was a career year for him as he put up career highs in goals (44), assists (83), shots (282) and powerplay goals (20). While he absolutely tore up the VHLM offensively he was equally as impressive on the other end of the ice where he managed a +42 +/- rating, 151  hits and 116 blocked shots. He gave it everything he had each and every night and was the most consistent player on the Rush roster from the beginning of the season right until the very end.

In his final season before retirement Alex Armstrong truly saved his best for last. He was a dominant force on the ice but was an even better teammate off the ice. He made a huge impact on this young Rush roster and is a key reason as to why they finished 2nd overall in the standings. If Alex continues to play the way he has all season long then the Rush have a real shot at brining home a championship this season. They have some stiff competition ahead of them with the likes of Ottawa, Minnesota, San Diego and more but with their MVP leading the way anything is possible.

Zetterberg reacted to Spence King in Spencer Elsby - Prospect Scouting Report S72 VHL Draft
Elsby has the potential to quarterback a top power-play unit at the next level, thanks to his high-end hockey sense and elite puck skills on the blue-line. He can transition the puck from defense to offense with possession and is able to do so with good pace to his game. Spencer uses his excellent skating to drive the play and push the pace from the back end. He is an excellent transition player, can make tape-to-tape passes on the fly and presents a high-end offensive game and play making ability that make him dangerous every time he touches the puck.
His agility on his edges and accelerates with ease and blows by opponents with his speed. He has the ability to be the primary puck carrier on his line and excels in the role, cutting through neutral zone defenses like a hot knife in butter. Elsby’s game revolves around his ability to do everything extremely quickly. His hands and feet are both very quick, but his brain might be even quicker because he seems to be able to make great decisions no matter the situation and how much pressure he’s getting from opposing players.

Ending his rookie season with an iron man 72 GP with the Philadelphia Reapers eye popping deference racked up 11 Goals, 24 Assists ,3GWG and 83 Shots blocked putting him 2nd only behind all star defensive defenceman Jason Goeson. The 11 Goals has Elsby as the leading Goal scorer from the blue line for Philly and his offensive ability to quarterback the Power play has been on the highlight reels every week. Elsby is currently sitting at 11th Ovr on the VHL S72 Draft boards moving up 7 spots from rankings published earlier this season. Scouts have Elsby potential late 1st and high 2nd round pick of the VHL draft. Elsby also was selected as a 16 year old in his rookie VHLM season to represent Team Asia in the S71 WJC. Team Asia went on to be the #1 seed team after round robin and making it to the gold medal game , where things obviously did end the way Asia would have preferred that had a great tournament and played some great hockey. Elsby but up an outstanding performance registering 1G,8A,9Pts in 8 GP (over a point per game) during round robin and another 3 Assists throughout the Semi Final and Gold Medal game for a total of . Elsby as a rookie finished the tournament 3rd In defenceman scoring in very fine fashion.

Elsby has proven this league he is truly one of the most finesse players in this league and his ability to dodge hits and even after being hit most importantly not retaliating. There is already talks around the league that Elsby is considered the most hated player to play against because how sly he is about being chippy behind the refs eyes and never shuts his mouth. However off the ice all of the opponents admit Elsby is the sweetest and most genuine guy off the ice, he is two different people, when the games starts Elsby is not to be messed with, But off the ice hes everyone’s best friend always goofing around. This is something Elsby actually takes pride in and was quoted after his last game of the season with Mississauga last season “I want every player in the league to look at there schedule, and say , F*** we have to play Elsby tonight ☹, that is my goal to instill that in all of my opponents minds.”. This is something Elsby has been quoted saying several times as well at the beginning of this season during post game interviews. However now hes play speaks for itself and he doesnt need to tell anyone in the VHLM that.

“Elsby has been one of the draft’s biggest risers throughout the first half of the year thanks to his exceptional play in the VHLM this year and even in Mississauga late last season. He really proved himself to his GM @DMaximus cclearly going from a 3rd line D pairing to 1st line in every situation . His puck handing and ability to get shots through shooting lanes no one else sees is like no other. His ability to read the play and create passing lanes from walking the line with his amazing edges or a no look slap pass, this kid is a treat to watch. He is as creative a player with the puck as you will find in this draft.”
    - Bob Mckenzie- TSN

"His speed is impressive ... he can fly. Elsby's puck handling and vision are also excellent. I wasn’t sure on Elsby at the beginning of the season but I can promise you today I am 100% confident Elsby will one day be a #1 D quarterback on he back in the VHL , the future is very bright for this diverse and exciting player, his ceiling is unmatchable and he truly has no floor, this young man is a win-win for whatever lucky team calls his name on draft day. He's got a good attitude, works hard on every shift, and is so confident with the puck. He's also a little bit cocky on the ice, but in a positive way."

    Hey all,

Just gonna post here. I feel like there is a ton of good applicants but one stood out to me. His tenure was taken away from him, which is whatever, but I feel like he didn't deserve to not be AGM anymore, so please allow me to announce my new AGM @Viperxhawks19 who I know will be excellent for the job.

I am absolutely applying for this role as Mississauga’s GM. I have strong roots in Mississauga as my player was brought up through there a few seasons ago.

I have also recently been the AGM of the Yukon Rush for nearly a couple seasons now and the workload I have taken on has prepared me to become a GM of a VHLM team. I have been involved in the trade process, the drafting process, creating lines, recruiting players and keeping an active locker room. @MexicanCow123 can vouch for the amount of work I’ve put in during this past couple seasons.

I also have experience running a WJC team as I did so last season bringing a bronze medal to Team Europe. This allowed me to create an LR, build a team and set up lines.

The VHLM is the perfect place for me as recruitment and player retention is my favourite part of this job. I have recruited players that have become AGMs and solid active members in this league and that makes me proud of the work I have accomplished. I plan on being here for the long haul so you won’t have to worry about hiring a new GM for a while.

    Thank you for your consideration!!

Zetterberg reacted to gorlab in RIP 701 - VHL Memorial
I'm sure some of you already have heard the news but a former VHL member, and long-time sim league community member, David Theusch aka @701 passed away on Monday, April 13th. He was only 24 years old and his passing was tragic and unexpected.

David was a bit of a polarizing member who was never afraid to speak his mind and bring his thoughts/suggestions to the community. This rubbed some people the wrong way but also endeared many people to him. Speaking from my own experience, Dave was a genuinely caring and friendly guy who, like most of us, used sim leagues as an escape from the tedious grind of day-to-day life. He was always down to chat about anything and was fiercely loyal to his friends. Although he hasn't been active on VHL for the past couple of years, he was an important and active member when he was here. He was a very underrated graphic designer and loved to represent his hometown of Minot, ND, playing a pivotal role in establishing/rebooting the Minot Gladiators VHLM franchise.

I'm making this post in honour of his memory. Dave was somebody who, although I never met in real life, talked with very regularly. There was a good period of time where he and I spoke every day. He had a great sense of humour and was just very easy to talk to and was a major influence in helping me, and others, learn how to make graphics. He was always willing to help, give advice, or just shoot the shit. Over the past couple of years, as we got older and more irl responsibility took up our time, we slowly lost touch and the news of his passing hit me pretty hard. I truly regret not reaching out and catching up with him when I had the opportunity to do so.

Regardless of knowing 701 or not, please feel free to pay your respects or post any memories of him you have in this thread. Also, I want this post be a reminder that, even though most of us have never, and will never, meet each other in real life, real human connections are made between members in our community and to be thoughtful of this. Let people know you care about them and that they've brought a positive influence to you and your life.

RIP David Theusch. You were always a real one and a guy I'm proud to consider a friend. You will be missed.

I'm also including a link to a memorial fund that was setup to support his family and help alleviate the financial burden of his passing and funeral. If you have ability, please consider donating to his memorial gofundme page: Here.
