It’s been quite a while since the Board of Governors has issued an official update on what we’re doing. Please note that these updates are for the purpose of the general VHL member to know what we are and aren't working on. Some topics that move on and off this list may not come to fruition–we may decide that, after careful examination, the idea isn't practical or has too many inevitable opportunities for failure. These updates are not intended to signal that we have everything about it figured out.

Frequency of these updates is to be determined. There's no point in posting weekly updates stating that concepts are still in progress, but the goal is to reduce the amount of unknowns with relation to what people are and aren't paying attention to. Anyway, without further ado...

    The Meta

We have been in the process of discussing how to resolve the meta issue in the league since late October. Our goals for the project include creating a more well-rounded competition among teams, rather than a select few teams dominating the entire league because of specific player builds.

A challenge we’ve faced in our search for a good solution has been a resistance to infringing upon user freedoms in building their player. We’re narrowing potential solutions so that users still have control over how they build without allowing for the current issue to persist. We’ve advanced from the initial discussion phase and are currently looking at test sims that have been run by fellow board members.

    VHLM Waiver Improvement

We are currently working through a proposal to update how the VHLM Waiver System works. Right now, VHLM GMs are required to manually post in player creation threads, which takes time, effort, and availability. The proposal for improvement consists of moving the VHLM waiver to the portal. This concept was proposed in response to a deep dive into retention.

We reached a point where BOG members had said their piece, and we are collecting information and opinions from VHLM GMs, as they would be the primary population affected by the changes.

All amounts listed are in CAD. The makeup of each expense category in this quarter is as follows:
Advertising, costs related to recruitment drives. Branding, costs related to purchasing team logos. Charity, the total of funds donated to the league earmarked for charity and the league contribution from the holiday drive. (Does not include holiday raffle winners) Hosting, costs related to hosting the portal and forums. Licensing, costs related to STHS licenses.
    Career Point Task Revisit

There have been complaints (both old and new) about the career point tasks. This proposal just came forward a couple days ago, so not much has been done on this front.

We’re evaluating the career point tasks as they currently stand to determine whether they should be updated/returned to how they previously were. More to come on this front.

    Additional Secondary Task

We received a proposal about adding a new secondary point task since trivia wasn’t running. Right now, secondary point task options include reviewing, VHL.com tasks (article, radio, and graphic), and press conferences. Although there are ways to reach cap each week the the current options, without trivia, these options may require people to complete tasks in formats that they’re not comfortable with. The goal outlined in the proposal is to offer more opportunities for forum engagement and connecting with people outside of your own team’s locker room/immediate vicinity. We are currently in the process of determining whether we should implement the proposed task, especially given the return of trivia.

fishy reacted to Garsh in Henri le Massif Reaching His Peak?
Los Angeles Stars forward  Henri le Massif thinks the upcoming season will be his best yet.  Le Massif will be in his 4th season with the Stars, and his 5th season of activity since he was drafted back in season 78.  Henri has said he feels great and thinks he really improved a lot last season which saw him beat his previous career best point total by 16 points.  He was on pace for a point per game season for 75% of the season but then fell off sharply towards the end of the season.  The playoffs saw the stars exit in the wildcard round with le Massif getting 0 points and a -3 rating.

In recent interviews the Frenchman has said the playoffs left him feeling disappointed in himself and has lit a fire in him this off-season.  However, he also acknowledges that while he hopes this season will be a peak in his career, he is also starting to enter the back half of his career and will struggle to improve after this season.  Time will tell if he improves or if this is the beginning of the end of Henri le Massif.

We are currently in the process of determining whether we should implement the proposed task, especially given the return of trivia.

fishy got a reaction from v.2 in Board of Governors Updates

    VHL Finance Transparency

All amounts listed are in CAD. The makeup of each expense category in this quarter is as follows:
Advertising, costs related to recruitment drives. Branding, costs related to purchasing team logos. Charity, the total of funds donated to the league earmarked for charity and the league contribution from the holiday drive. (Does not include holiday raffle winners) Hosting, costs related to hosting the portal and forums. Licensing, costs related to STHS licenses.

An alternative for those who don't like it would just be to nuke it. There's no point in doing a task for your current player in your last season and if you're against helping the recreate there's no point in keeping it around.

Berocka mentioned to me earlier today that he'd also like to see career tasks linked to a player's page on the portal (perhaps that could happen automatically when the task is approved for that player? I don't know my code). I wouldn't personally care about most tasks, but being able to go on some random non-HoF player's page and read their career recap, as told by the member, would be pretty neat.

Hi Spartan, you're probably the only one who's gonna read this so I figured I'd say hi. Zack too, actually. Good evening, Zack. I wanted to write another article instead of a graphic/nothing instead of doing my science homework (I don't think protons, neutrons, and the periodic table have much to do with business, law, or hockey management, so I'm largely disinterested), because I'm a dedicated procrastinator. I did finish my English though, which provided me with the dopamine I needed to sit down and write this.

Right now, it's all about the draft. Trying to figure out who's going up and who's staying down, mostly. With the 2nd overall pick, that variable is constantly changing my draft board, and honestly the decision might come down to the hours before the first selection. Luckily, there have been a few recreates recently who'll for sure make this draft just a little bit deeper, and with the Marauders actually having draft assets this season, the hope is that we can finally get down to business with the first contending season under me. Which is kind of sad, but we did make the playoffs two seasons ago, and that was with 12 teams. So that's the plan. Get some steals, build up some waiver depth, and kick some ass. Maybe a cup comes, maybe it doesn't. All I want is to actually win consistently. And that brings me to Zetterstrom.

Oh, Linus. With my future in Riga in the air, especially with the acquisition of Battre Sandstrom, my next move in the VHL is shrouded in uncertainty. I'd have to imagine some middler team would love a veteran, high TPE defencemen to anchor their blueline, maybe help them get into the playoffs. But my passing build is becoming more and more unattractive to potential buyers, so at this point I'm just keeping my head down and trying desperately to get to that max TPE layover of 1250, of which I have 124 TPE to go before next deadline, which I think is decently possible. I really shot myself in the foot in october and november by missing a few point task weeks, and not even claiming welfare because I thought I'd do it sunday night but didn't, and now I'm feeling my own consequences.

So yea. That's about it. Thanks for reading
