Don't know why this was changed in the first place - I believe at one point a team couldn't have more than 2 first round picks and 2 second round picks for any draft, but that was removed at some point.

I think I'm going pretty far back with this though.

Yeah unfortunately it has gotten to the point now where teams are intentionally circumventing this rule by picking players and trading for them afterwards. Draft pick trade banning may be the move.

  2. :chi: S80 Chicago Phoenix Team Captains :chi:

I completely forgot to post this last week, I guess that goes hand in hand with the whole I'm inactive thing. I am proud to announce the team captains for the current iteration of the Chicago Phoenix! We are trying to make one last run with the long term core of this team, and I think these captains, as voted on by their teammates, fit the roles perfectly.

    Team Captain: D - Matty Socks @fishy

Alternate Captain: RW - Lee Xin @Blazzer

Alternate Captain: G - Jean PIerre Camus @solas

These are three career players for the Chicago Phoenix and are also among the best players of the current generation and I could not be happier to have them representing us!

  3. The Chicago Phoenix have had pretty much the same core for the past few seasons with some parts coming in and out whether it was through trade, retirement, or free agency. Long time Phoenix players like goaltender JP Camus, defenseman Matty Socks, winger Lee Xin and center Christian Mingle are all in the twilight years of their career and are looking to make a run for a cup which has eluded the squad since their championship winning season 76.

While often times older players end up fading out or joining another team in the later years of their career the management of the Chicago Phoenix has made it very clear that they wanted to give these long time Phoenix players one last shot at the cup. With the additions of defenseman Kasper Kankkunen and forward John LeClair II this past offseason, both of whom are also retiring, they have one of the strongest yet oldest rosters in the league. So far this season it has them fourth in the North American conference which can largely be attributed to a slow start. As of late they have been very hot and surging towards the front of the pack.

Look for this squad of old timers to continue to improve as the season goes on and maybe, just maybe, they can have another Cinderella run.

  4. I have golfed since I was a kid but have started to do it far more often since the pandemic began and it became a way to get outside with some friends. I went from golfing probably a round a month before the pandemic to 27+ holes a week this summer and while it has been expensive it has been a joy to watch myself improve and I find the time outside with friends helps my mental side as well.

Some other things I enjoy doing are hockey, baseball, video games, working around the farm, going for drives and just generally anything that let's me see my friends more often.

The thing that gets me is that this is happening. Like, next week. Hypotheticals are almost over, we’re so close to having evidence and concrete examples to analyze. Can we chill on the theoretical, non-constructive criticism for a bit? I get that it’ll take 6-9 seasons to get a full scope of what we’ve done here, and so we won’t get fully validated for a while, but can we at least try it first?

We’ve identified full rosters as a problem close to a calendar year ago. We’ve discussed possible solutions in the BoG for months. There are dozens of pages of discussions, many of which you were involved in. We’ve fine-tuned, tinkered, and identified and solved hypothetical issues for a long time. We announced it, and opened up a “VHLE Questions” thread that further explained the league and gave the community opportunity to raise important questions.

I know you’ve been gone, I’m not shaming you for that, but a lot of people have put a lot of thought and a lot of effort over a lot of time before, during, and after your leave.

We’re trying something new, and that’s scary. I know it wasn’t your idea. I know you weren’t convinced behind closed doors. I know you don’t think it’ll work. I feel like there’s nothing we could do that would make you believe it’s a good idea. But don’t you want us to succeed? Because persuading people that it’s stupid and it’s going to suck and you should hate it, one week before go time, is not setting anyone up for success.

Just, chill. The structure is built, let’s just see what happens when we press play. Give us the benefit of the doubt that we actually thought about this and want it to succeed. Trust that we’re not purposefully trying to tank the league. Believe we can identify and solve unexpected problems as they come up. Things take time, but no one wants to wait. Just, chill. We’ll find out what happens so, so soon.

Couldn't agree more. This just strikes me as some sort of hit piece on the league. While I personally don't know if I would want to play in the E if I recreated for a couple of different reasons, it also isn't catered to users who normally max earn like myself when they have players, nor the players the majority of those quotes came from. I also don't really want to play in the M, so there is that.

I can't imagine playing four minutes a game in the VHL is a super enjoyable experience for a lot of users so this gives them the ability to contribute to a team. Some guys really enjoy playing in the M, I'm sure others will love playing in the E. Maybe some people enjoy playing that little just to have the VHL experience, but being a marginal player in a league has got to suck to some.

Damn that’s a good deal. But did Elsby WANT to play for Seattle!? If so, why not sign there??

Because Seattle couldn't afford them and they had to get around that with this two part trade. Whether or not Elsby wanted to play there I have no idea.
