What. A. Fortnight. First there was the championship run. The Reapers were in it to win it, you could tell right from the first. The team ran through the lower rounds and went up against a real tough team in the finals. Caitlyn was dreading one thing the entire time, and surprisingly even though she was quite the competitor, it wasn’t losing. It was the ringing of her cell phone with that one unknown number. The unknown people on the other end of the line might ask her to do anything and she would have to do it for now. The night before the first game of the finals her phone rang and it was, in fact, that same unknown number. She sat staring at her phone for a second or so, too afraid to answer, too afraid not to. When she finally picked up it was the usual voice on the other end of the line but he didn’t ask her anything this time. He wished her well and said that she should do her best to win. When she hung up Caitlyn was shaking. The adrenaline had been coursing through her in anticipation of being asked to do something horrible to someone again. Of being forced to say yes. She was so glad that she wasn’t going to be made to do anything that she broke down into tears.
When it came to game time Caitlyn felt freed. She was all over the place on the ice, flying at top speed. She played well, though not so well that she felt she’d capped out on her potential yet. The Reapers went on to win the Cup, Caitlyn was a champion! 3rd line winger only, but still! A champion! She was still riding the high from having won a real cup that she never expected she’d win as a minor leaguer that when she got the call from the World WJC team she absolutely could not believe it. They wanted her on the team! What a huge honor! When the games got under way she was so on cloud nine that she felt she could do anything on the ice. Until she realized she was woefully underdeveloped compared to some of the top players out there. The World team even won the WJC and although Caitlyn scored a couple of goals, she just played okay overall. Then…then it was time for the thing she’d been most looking forward to. The draft.

The week before the draft was a blur. It was workout for this team, interview for this scout, tour this facility, she felt like her brain had been scrambled by the end of it. She had picked out a couple of teams she had hopes would draft her, that seemed particularly excited about getting her and had picks in the area her agent told her she was projected to go. That said she was sure wherever she ended up would be fun, exciting and worthwhile.

Then, two days before the draft she got a knock on her door. She was confused at first since no one knew where she lived except a couple of teammates she’d had over once or twice. She thought it must be them coming to wish her luck wherever she went next and answered the door with a smile. That smile shattered the moment she saw her mother standing there looking at her. Her mother greeter her as she pushed past without permission, Caitlyn was so stunned she didn’t think to try to stop her. When she caught her bearing she turned on her mother and yelled at her to get out. Her mother of course took it in stride, used to her daughter not being exactly welcoming. Caitlyn took the opportunity to use a few choice words to let her mother know just exactly what she thought of her after what she’d put her through this last year. Her mother just stood silently and listened. When Caitlyn paused to take a breath her mother asked if Caitlyn was ready to hear why she had come. This got Caitlyn thinking again. What the hell was this woman up to now? She was playing the game again, she was always playing the game, so what was she after. Money was too simple, the fact that Caitlyn would be drafted my a VHL team and sign her first real contract would be interesting to most petty con-men, or con-women in this case, but not her mother. That was small potatoes. So, what was the game? Not being able to guess, and tired already of having to be in the woman’s presence, Caitlyn asked why she’d bothered to show up now? Her mother claimed then to have a plan to save Caitlyn from her debtors. She would work most of it on her end but Caitlyn just had to appeal to on specific general manager and get him to draft her. She had to end up in Washington D.C. with the Dragons. Once there, her mother would enact the rest of her plan and Caitlyn would be freed from her debt. The debt, yeah the debt her mother had placed on her head in the first place, Caitlyn thought. This was the reminder that she needed that she could not trust this woman. Whatever else was true, she was not acting with Caitlyn’s best interest at heart. She had her own agenda that involved Caitlyn only insofar as Caitlyn was a useful pawn. No, this was all wrong. Caitlyn told her mother to get out, she wouldn’t do as she was asked and her mother was wasting her breath. Her mother smiled and slowly walked to the door, but on her way out she said one more thing. She said that Caitlyn really didn’t have any other options available to her.

Caitlyn had those last words running through her mind all night. What other options were open to her? She really didn’t even know who she was dealing with, she had no leverage to negotiate with, and she had no one else to appeal to for help. The next day she did find out she had a last minute meeting with the GM of the D.C. Dragons scheduled at their request. That wasn’t a coincidence, she thought, but did her best to act as though it were news to her. The person she met with surprised her, they were very excited about drafting her it seemed, and their excitement was endearing. Caitlyn did what she didn’t want to do, she appealed to them using her natural enthusiasm and by assuring them that she was super excited to play for them as well. It wasn’t even so much that it wasn’t true, it just felt disingenuous because it was forced. She did it because she knew she had no choice.

The night of the draft she sat in the green room with about 40 other rookies waiting to see her fate. As it turned out she was drafted number seven overall…by the D.C. Dragons. She was so happy to be drafted 7th, some mock drafts had her slipping out of the first round altogether, and yet, she felt so guilty for the situation, for whatever fate was to befall whoever her mother was out to get. The GM of D.C. immediately congratulated her when she left the stage, and she had a signed contract later that evening. The next morning she found a note on her hotel door in her mother’s handwriting. It said simply, “thata girl.” Caitlyn threw it across the hall and slammed her door. She’d let her mother have her way, again, as always. As always, it was because she didn’t have any other choice. Her mother had been steps ahead of her. How she wished she could be free of the curse of this woman in her life. How many times had she cried, asking whoever might be listening why they had placed such a terrible human being in her life? Caitlyn did not have any answers then, and she did not have any answers now but to keep moving forward. She was living life on rails, forced to go where they took her. She was a pawn and she knew it. Where would life guide her next? What was in store for her when she arrived in D.C.? Caitlyn hoped that better times were possible.

CrazyCaityCat got a reaction from Laine in Caitlyn Catowize - Rookie Experience
What do you expect in your first season with the Dragons? That was what that reporter had asked her. It was only her second day since she’d been drafted and she’d had a big press conference. The reporter had asked her that question and she’d mumbled something about hoping she’d do well and not letting her teammates down. The truth is though she didn’t know what to say when she’d been asked. She’d been so focused on the drama of her mother and the draft that she had no thoughts of what her first season in the VHL was going to bring. She supposed what she’d said was true insofar as it went. She did want to do well, and she did not want to let down her teammates. That said, that was not all she wanted from her rookie season, as she thought more about the question. She wanted so much to improve. She was sure that she’d not get as many minutes in the coming season as she was getting in the VHLM, and she was going to be facing the very best players in the world, people who’d been playing in the league when she was a toddler, people who’d been forged by the fires of competition. That shouldn’t stop her from getting better though. She wanted to develop her wrist shot, she wanted to get faster than she’d ever been before, she wanted to get even better defensively.

Her biggest worries were all off the ice. She was so worried that it was all going to go to waste because of whatever her debtors or her mother had planned for her. She had no idea what to expect from these forces of nature in her life. They could ask her to do something that would ruin her life and what choice would she really have? At least one of those groups would possibly be willing to kill her if she didn’t do as she was told, and the other? Who knows how her mother might make her life miserable.

Now wasn’t the time to dwell on that though. Now was time to focus on the things she actually could control. She needed to get ready to move from Philadelphia to Washington D.C. Then she needed to find the head trainer and get to work. She had big plans for her career and if she was going to find a way to make those plans a reality then she was going to have to train harder than she’d ever trained before.

CrazyCaityCat got a reaction from Enorama in Caitlyn Catowize Scouting Report
    To: General Manager Enorama
Scouting report: Philadelphia Reapers VHLM team
Target: Caitlyn Catowize (Cat o veet zay)

    Strengths:
Defensive genius for a forward, always knows how to be in the right place at the right time, always willing to throw her body in front of the puck when a defender is rearing back for a slapshot. Poke check is absolutely on point, almost never misses one and gets caught for tripping.

Speed freak. Absolutely races around the rink, faster than most other forwards in the VHLM. Could be faster still but it is my understanding that her team has diverted her from her training there and asked her to slow it down for the sake of keeping her onside. Potential here is blue chip.

Has a fabulous wrist shot. She didn’t score much this last season with it, most of her playing time coming on the penalty kill unit, but she absolutely has the ability to be a scorer if she gets a chance to develop. The raw talent is there, she just needs some work on consistency.

Hip Check. Surprisingly for her small frame she can launch herself into anyone who tries to bypass her along the boards. Opposing players have learned to go inside rather than outside when going past her, so as not to get pinched and checked into the boards.

Work Ethic. She’s a real workaholic. Always spending the time in the gym required to get better. Not quite a first in last out player, but definitely does what it takes to keep improving.

    Weaknesses:
Slapshot is weak. She just cannot muster the power behind it to be top tier here. She’ll never compete for a top tier slapshot in my view.

Open Ice Checking. While she can poke check, and hip check very well, she cannot hit an opponent on the open ice for anything. She is just too undersized for it to mean anything to most opponents even if she did.

Passing is weaker than it should be. While not absolutely terrible at this, her passing certainly leaves something to be desired.

    Overall:
I rate this prospect rather highly. Her lack of scoring can largely be attributed to her playing time mostly coming on penalty killing minutes. Her overall fitness is incredible and I believe her upside is absolutely top level. If she is available for us in the range of picks 6-12 I believe she would be a valuable asset to add to the team.

CrazyCaityCat got a reaction from Enorama in Caitlyn Catowize's story Pt.9
If you want to start from the beginning of the story part one can be found here:

The last installment can be found here:

It turns out the man had a gambling problem, and had just filed for bankruptcy. The media loved this, they pontificated, they lambasted, they destroyed the public image of the man. If only that was the worst part. It seemed that the ADA in Philadelphia had taken an interest in the case. Turns out prosecuting someone who worked for the VHLM team in the city might be a good way to get a promotion. The poor equipment manager, thought Caitlyn, he’d been sentenced to 6 years in prison for destruction of private property, and something called the Sports Bribery Act. The national sports media picked it up. EXPN ran stories on the Reapers for weeks. Caitlyn felt so guilty she felt like she was going to explode. She wanted, every day, to run into the locker room and confess. She knew she couldn’t though; her life might very well depend on her silence at this point. The blackmailers, she didn’t know who they were, what they were capable of. They obviously weren’t a two-bit operation, they had ways of finding her when she didn’t want to be found.

A couple of weeks ago she’d had a week off to prepare for the upcoming playoffs. Caitlyn had taken the opportunity to drown her misery, she left her phone in her apartment and gone to Mexico. She took a bus south from Tijuana and let it go for 2 days before she got off at a random town she didn’t know the name of that seemed likely to be big enough to have a bar. She lived in that bar for the next 3 days, drinking until she passed out, waking up and starting the cycle all over again. The locals were friendly enough, though only a few could speak English well enough to converse with her. The truth was though that she wasn’t in the mood to talk. She just wanted to drink her guilt away. Late in the third day she was approached by a man who was obviously not local. He wore a very expensive suit and came directly up to her, calling her by name. Caitlyn had only just woken and finished her first beer so she was pretty coherent, enough to be extremely suspicious and scared of this man who knew her name where no one should know her. He explained that he’d been sent by their mutual friends, that they had a message for her: Get your ass back home and sober up. You’ve got playoff games to perform in. Caitlyn told him to fuck off but she was a bit hesitant about how much leeway she was going to get here. He told her their mutual friends had a vested interest in her and weren’t going to be happy if she allowed her career to be ruined by her having a pity party in Mexico. He then shifted his suit coat intentionally to show off the holster he had hidden under it. Caitlyn understood. She was to be a good girl, play hockey, and do whatever the hell they told her to for however long it took them to decide she was useful.

She did head home after that, she felt she didn’t have a choice. If they could find her in that random bar, in a random town, in the middle of Mexico then they could find her anywhere. Caitlyn sobered up and tried to focus on her training for the upcoming playoff games. The Reapers won in a sweep, and Caitlyn underperformed. Her draft stock was still pretty high according to her agent, due to her natural skills, but she was certainly not happy with her performance. In the second playoff series she found herself underperforming again, yet the team did well in spite of her. The Reapers won in 5 games, moving on to the finals. All the time Caitlyn threw herself into training. It was the holiday season and all Caitlyn could do was train, worry, and try not to let her guilt overwhelm her. It didn’t help that she couldn’t even remember the equipment manager’s name whenever she tried to recall it.

Then, two days before the finals she got another call from that ominous voice that she didn’t know. He told her that he was excited by her draft prospects and that if she did well in the finals that she’d find herself in a much better position to pay off her debts. Caitlyn could do nothing but cry in frustration. The voice went on to tell her that something had been done to help her, and that she’d better take advantage of it. They didn’t need to say “or else…”. Caitlyn asked what it was that they’d done to help her and all she got in return was a laugh and a dead line. Great. So now she was not only supposed to do what they wanted her to do, she had to guess at what the hell it was too? This was bullshit…and there was nothing she could do about it. It was all thanks to her mother for racking up this debt with these people then dropping it on her. Actually…wait. What the hell? If they could find Caitlyn where she had hidden herself at that bar in Mexico then how the hell had they not already found her mother? Why were they extracting the debt from her when her mother would have been able to be found? Caitlyn was so angry. She’d been lied to by everyone, again. She realized what had happened. Her mother had racked up the debt using Caitlyn’s career as collateral. The reason they were using her is because she was far more valuable to them than her mother seemed to be. Caitlyn knew better, she knew that if anyone in this group was aware of her mother’s abilities that they’d find her immediately more useful than Caitlyn. The ability to convince almost anyone to do almost anything you needed them to do would likely have been considered extremely valuable to these people.

Caitlyn struggled with it but there didn’t seem to be an obvious way to turn this to her advantage. She thought about telling them what her mother was capable of but she was sure they wouldn’t believe her. People just couldn’t do what her mother could do, it wasn’t believable. It wasn’t that it was supernatural, it’s just that it was so absurdly perfected that no one would believe it. Caitlyn would just have to do her best in the coming days to figure out what it was that was expected of her and do it, regardless of how awful it was going to end up being.

What he is trying to say is that you are better off capping at 250 TPE and playing another season in the VHLM before trying to make the jump into the VHL; which majority of us did this season. We all capped early and some where right at the limit even when being drafted but since you can bank your TPE and apply it all at one time; it is better to play two season in the VHLM and then apply all your TPE for the start of the third season and Rookie season in the VHL. (Man do I waffle on when I am tired)

This will be something you and whom every drafts you in the VHL and the Reapers will need to decide but most likely they will want to you to bank and stay in the VHLM for another season. Since the Reapers only have four draft picks in this years draft you will play a huge role for the team next season along with (S75) RW - Thomas King (S76) C - Jivere Zolnek (S75) C - Kjell Nilsson (S75) LW - Blim Blam McFluble and (S76) D - Robin Galante Nilsson.

Maybe even have (S75) D - Bob Tristan stick around and the team has a good core to build off. This will allow your player a lot more playing minutes while developing longer but also expect to be trade if the team starts to fall out of the play-offs.

I've been really enjoying my time in the VHL and I have really had a lot of fun with the writing of my backstory. I'm glad someone has been reading it!

It's going to be an exciting time after the draft, I am going to miss reading the banter in the Reapers Locker Room though. Good luck to you as well, I'm a huge fan of Isau's. I'm very glad to have met you!
