Well in a professional business man matter, I took a leadership role and offered contracts to my draftees. As assistant GM, I was given approval of commissioner Higgins that I could do this. Instead of losing such valuable members, I did what was best for the team. Thank you for your concern and hopefully they will accept our contract offers.

I must graciously welcome our new recruits and give credit to all of those who oppose our life changing decision.
 
We hope you some day see our lightness as greatness rather than impurity.

According to Wikipedia, there are 26 varieties of minor penalty in the sport of hockey. As a PIM expert, I will be ranking all 26 PIMs, giving you a good guide as to how you should attempt to hockey once you get on the ice.
 
#26 – Interference
If there is one thing that cannot be tolerated either on or off the ice, it’s cock-blocking. You’ve got a team-mate who’s found an attractive girl on the side, he’s about to get his, you have NO REASON TO GET INVOLVED! In some ways, it is great that this is a PIM as it’s an effective way of removing any cock-blockers from the situation, but the fact it rewards players with PIMs is a disgrace to the art of PIMing.
 
#25 – Delay of the Game
Look, we’re all trying to get PIMs here, if you’re going to hold us back just so you get yours, you deserve to be beaten up. Again, why this is rewarded with PIMs is beyond me, remove him from the situation by all means, but this only encourages the tarnishing of the game.
 
#24 – Diving
Diving is the sole reason for the reduction of PIMs since the early seasons. Guys figured out that they could rack up PIMs by pretending they’d been hit as opposed to actually going out and hitting someone. So a confrontation that was solved with fists and rewarded with 5 minute PIMs would now instead have a dive-off for 2 minute PIMs. Stop ruining the game, PIM like a man.
 
#23 – Holding the Stick
I figure the refs must have stopped calling this one once everyone started bringing one onto the ice at the start of the game.
 
#22 – Illegal Stick
I’ve been in the league for seven seasons now and I’ve yet to be rewarded for smuggling cocaine in my stick.  Like, why am I putting in the effort if the refs aren’t going to call it?
 
#21 – Illegal Equipment
Like, I would at least hope that my cocaine filled stick would meet this criteria considering it’s a baseball bat, but nope.

229: S41 Historical Awards Ceremony Breakdown

Hello all, it has been a while since I contributed a regular piece for the magazine but the off-season always gets the most activity out of me and more importantly, it is time for the second annual awards ceremony historical breakdown! Season 41 has officially closed for business and that means we can look at which achievements are particularly notable in a 41-season VHL context.

The Obvious Ones

Conner Low's move from All-Star starter to just All-Star (i.e. defenceman to forward) took away the chance to again praise his record-breaking sixth consecutive Sterling Labatte Trophy win. Despite this, the New York Americans have not lost possession of this trophy. Matt Bentley at last came out of Low's shadow to win the trophy and thus make it 11 New York wins in the past 15 seasons. Daniel Braxton, Ryan Sullivan, Low, and now Bentley have claimed the award as theirs and on two occasions, it were Braxton and Sullivan playing on different teams who won at New York's expense. With Bentley remaining the odds-on favourite in his last season, there is every chance of the Americans extending their exceptional run.

It's not just about the defence either in New York, who, quite predictably, in addition to a fairly rare second Continental Cup in three seasons, also claimed a record fourth consecutive Victory Cup as the regular season's top team. At last Seattle's long-standing record from Seasons 4 to 6 has been broken and much like the Labatte run, you wouldn't bet against the Americans adding to their streak in Season 42.

The mastermind behind team and individual triumphs, GM Chris Miller, won his third David Knight Trophy as the league's top GM, tying in first place Calgary's recently retired Jason Glasser and Mike Szatkowski, formerly of Toronto and much more recently Riga. It seems far-fetched that Miller wins again next season even if New York should defend their title and win three in four seasons, but a successful retool or rebuild, provided he sticks around, would vault Miller into a much-deserved clear cut first place in the all-time GM rankings.

Expansion Firsts

Season 41 was the eleventh since expansion and while the Bratislava Watchmen and Yukon Rush celebrated by contesting the final and adding to their collection of a whopping eight cumulative triumphs, the VHL's expansion franchises have not had it so easy. As their enter their second competitive cycles, the Quebec City Meute and Cologne Express still have many milestones to potentially look forward to, with the Meute hitting some with a superb offensive season by deadly duo Bruno Wolf and Aksel Thomassen. Between them, they claimed both expansion franchises' first Brett Slobodzian, Scott Boulet, Mike Szatkowski, and Alexander Beketov Trophies. After a decade starved of real offensive superstars, with the exception of Cologne's Kameron Taylor, top goal-scorer in Season 37 split between the Express and the Reign, it is nice to see more great players defining these franchises.

There is, of course, now added motivation for the Express to not fall behind the Meute's success, as Quebec is now combining their one championships with regular season success. Cologne's lone “expansion first” in S41 was Thomas O'Malley's most sportsmanlike award. They will be hoping both O'Malley and Mason Richardson reproduce their rookie season form in the near future as both franchises go all in to win the Continental Cup.

Other Tidbits

Speaking of rookies, Toronto's Sachimo Zoidberg impressed by beating O'Malley's rookie points total by one, as well as matching Jardy Bunclewirth's Season 18 output of 54 goals. It's still a way off the trophy's namesake Christian Stolzschweiger, but Zoidberg has emerged as a genuine threat to Season 40's big two of O'Malley and Richardson, despite being “just” the fifth overall pick.

Finally, MVP splits between this generation's two stand-out goalies and rivals, New York's Brick Wahl and Mike Szatkowski Jr. Mike won the pair's first Shaw as well, and vindicated my mid-season MVP prediction and even dragged Riga to Game 7 of the finals, but there he was overshadowed by Wahl. Though regular season success continued to elude him, Brick, despite a worse performance than his previous two seasons, won a second Daisuke Kanou Trophy, the only goalie to do so apart from, well, Daisuke Kanou.

Hi all..
I'm pretty new to these "VHL cup things". Can anyone explain me what is this (I understand that this is a Super cup, but who get's to play here) And the biggest question I have is - Why is Pettyfer here? ;D

Another continental cup

Obviously McQueen is going into his last season. It's been a good career thus far and hoping I can have an amazing performance for the last season and maybe get into the HOF. Upset that we couldn't repeat but was glad to have gotten a Cup with our core in Riga. I'd like to thank Phil, Mike and Eaglesfan for being the main core that stuck around for so many seasons together and especially Flyersfan who was my GM and got me a Cup in the VHLM and then became my GM and got me a Cup in the VHL. Class act and I love all these guys.

Very happy with how my player turned out on my 3rd attempt in the VHL as he has been a hitting machine and while offensively has been disappointing at points, he's done fine enough.

After much deliberation about quitting the league after this player, I've recently had the urge to have a new player and so I'll be recreating and see how it goes. Can't give up my addiction just yet.

Sixteen picks will be made by each team in tonight's draft to accompany their own player.  Each team will be responsible for assembling a roster of nine forwards, six defenders and two goalies.
 
**This tournament is all about promoting our currently active players and therefore no inactives can be taken before actives at the same position.  For example, if there is only one 20 TPE active forward left, a team has to pick him before looking at a 500 TPE inactive forward.  Luckily, with how many active forwards and goalies we have, there will be no inactives at either spot and only a few inactive defenders by my count, will be drafted.**
 
 
ROUND ROBIN FORMAT:
The Round Robin will be played to determine the seeds for the Playoff Rounds.  Each team will play twenty games in order to determine their seeding position from 1 to 6.  In addition, the leaders of each conference will get a bye into the Semi-Finals.
 
The Playoffs will be three rounds.  The top two teams from each Conference will receive a bye into the next round, while the teams ranked from 3 to 6 will battle it out in the quarter finals (3v6 and 4v5).  Each playoff series (quarters, semi's and finals) will be best of three meaning that the first team to win twice wins the series.
