    The VHL - Chicago Phoenix

The Chicago Phoenix are off to a 8-13-1 start, not the best for the roster, however, it was expected. Coming into this season, the expectations were set low and the roster wasn't something that was going to be able to compete with. Management knew that this season would most likely be the last season of rebuilding, where they'd start to compete next season. However, there are many question marks with this roster heading into the off-season, as the Phoenix lack a number one center. They have some supporting pieces and a very young D core, but they'll ideally need a centerman to be able to play with Trunov, who is having a fantastic season for the Phoenix. A potential MVP candidate, Yaroslav Trunov has 36 points in 22 games played, with 15 goals and 21 assists, which is on pace to beat his career high by far. It seems that every season, the Phoenix produce one player that shatters expectations and plays way above their potential, as Trunov seems to be that player this season. It'll be interesting to see if he can keep this point production up, as in the past, Chicago has struggled to find consistency and score goals, which seems they can score this season. Keeping the puck out of the net though is difficult for the Phoenix, especially their second line, as they don't have the depth to match up against other teams. We'll see come trade deadline if Chicago has something in store, or if they'll wait until the off-season to make some moves.

The VHLE - Cologne Express (George Richmond)

Meanwhile in the E, Cologne has found themselves at the top of the table, already having a 9 point lead over the second place team. It's no doubt that Cologne right now is the best team in the league, but as it is a long season, anything could change. Cologne currently has a 17-3-2 record, with a +38 goal differential, and a league leading 80 goals for and 42 goals against. This team is stacked and they seem poised to bring home another trophy. Led by Anthony Simmons, the team seems to have the depth to stack up against any team, where Simmons has 35 points in 22 games played and looks to be a front runner for multiple awards. George Richmond is having a fantastic season, with 32 points in 22 games played and a +14, something Moscow fans are going to be very happy about. Another interesting statistic is that Richmond has 5 game winning goals, which is the most on the roster, despite not having the most goals on the team. It seems Richmond comes in clutch when he's needed, not scoring the most goals, but the most impactful ones. When we asked Richmond about his goal scoring, he replied saying that, "I do want to be able to finish more of my chances. I'm shooting just over 9% right now and I feel like it could be higher." The young superstar winger is still finding his place in the VHLE, where if he's able to finally get his footing, he could be in the race for MVP should he overtake Simmons. Regardless, Cologne is on fire currently and there's no signs of stopping. All aboard the hype train!

The New York Americans have decided to fill their vacant Assistant VHL GM position. The decision comes at a time where we have seen an increased number of interested applicants, and the amount of candidates were vast. After an internal evaluation of talent we have decided to go in the direction of selecting a candidate who is looking to gain experience in order to one day become a VHLM GM and eventually a VHL GM. This is a newer member, with a first gen player in their draft year. They have shown great promise in their team's locker room, one in which I am familiar with, being the former Houston Bulls GM. This member as a first gen has potentially a top five draft prospect Trimiskez Artav, and has been very impressive both on the forums and in discord since joining a little over a month ago.

STZ reacted to jake in Deep dive into the top 7 VHLM team's goalies.
Today, we will be doing a deep dive into the top 7 VHLM team's top TPE goalie. It will go in order from the top teams to the bottom teams. Now, let's get into it!
Las Vegas Aces - Hugo Boss
Hugo could have performed better, with a 0.897 save percentage. His goals-against average is 3.28. However, in the wins column, he's been a great goalie with a 10-1-1 record. The person who controls this player is a well-known member of the community (dil) I think he hasn't performed well but managed to have 10 wins due to the team scoring loads of goals. By the end of the season, I think Hugo will be elite.

    Miami Marauders - Shaunca
Shaunca has performed incredibly with a 1.69 goals-against average and a 0.92 save percentage. He has held the net down well with an 8-1-1 record. He also has one shutout. I'd say this is one of the better goalies here in the VHLM. However, nearing the end of the season, Shaunca will be lagging behind other goalies due to Shaunca only doing welfare and practice each week.

    Philadelphia Reapers - Jorgen Lovstrom
Jorgen has also performed great, with a 0.924 save percentage and a 2.18 goals-against average. They also have an 8-2-0 record and one shutout.  This goalie is capping almost every week with VSN pay. This player started out with 102 base TPE which is very good. I think this goalie at the end of the season will be an elite weapon.

So far, I feel like the past two goalies have both been better than Hugo, but haven't received the same weaponry that Las Vegas has.

Ottawa Lynx - Alexander ovieckin jr
This goalie is a big dropoff from previous goalies. Recording a 0.893 save percentage and a 3.43 goals-against average from Russia, this is a big weakness for Ottawa and will continue to be for the whole season. This is a 78 tpe goalie who is only doing practice and welfare each week. His team has been scoring a lot of goals, however, so he has a 7-3-2 record currently.

San Diego Marlins - Samuel Wazinski
Samuel Wazinski is an overwhelmingly average goalie, with a 0.912 save percentage and a 2.43 goals-against average. This goalie isn't performing too bad right now due to the high base tpe he started with. At the end of the season, he will be a weakness though due to only claiming welfare and practice each week.

Mexico City Kings -   Aleksanteri Kaskiniemi-Kekkonen
I like this goalie and in a different media spot, I made talking about each West conference team's strengths and weaknesses I did point Aleksanteri out. This is a great 145 tpe goalie who isn't performing well. To be honest, I don't know why. Their save percentage is 0.902 and goals-against average is 2.8. This is an average statline but this player should be performing much better than they are currently. I think at the end of the season, this player will be one of the top goalies in the VHLM stat-wise.

    Houston Bulls - Ondrej Vencko
This goalie has been performing badly, but I have faith in Ondrej. Vencko has been capping every week and is a very dedicated first-gen. Ondrej has a 0.87 save percentage and a 3.37 goals-against average. I like this goalie and I am excited for what's to come later in the season.

That wraps up today's deep dive into the VHLM's goalies. Thank you for reading, and so long from Jake.

Another week and another installment of Around the League in 500 words (or so).  No real plan to discuss anything in particular but wanted to cover some rookie of the year thoughts in the VHL, my recruit Rip Wheeler’s success and any other random stuff that gets me that delicious 6 TPE.

    ROOKIE OF THE YEAR TALK:
This VHL season has a plethora of rookies that could compete for the coveted rookie of the year for S92.  As I was going through the stats, teams, and accomplishments I find this to be a very stacked year of epic rookies.  It’s always difficult to choose just what deserves the rookie of the year; is it points? Hits?  Overall Defense? Intangibles?  It’s just too hard to choose really but let’s try.

    GRIMGOR IRONHIDE-LW HELSINKI TITANS @FrostBeard
The 7th overall selection in the S91 draft, Ironhide is the current leader in points for a rookie skater.  9g 13a- 22 points, Ironhide is grinding in the toughest division in the league. Ironhide hits, scores and grinds for his club and has scored heavy in every league he has played in while covering defensively as well.  The guy just knows how to win.  A founders cup and multiple trophies already line his trophy case so rookie of the year is not a far flung conclusion.

    WWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW- G NEW YORK @rory
The New York Americans are a team I constantly root for, but they always seem to fall short of expectations.  However, I am really excited for the future with their roster.  Not to be dismissed in the rookie of the year category is goalie, WWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW (however many). It’s always tough to rate a rookie goalie since they usually don’t get the starts or games that most skaters get but WWWWWWWWWWWWWW can’t be overlooked by his work capacity.   He's played 21 games and is 11-7-3 and has been ABSOLUTE BEAST in net with a 1.98 GAA, 2 shutouts and a .935 GAA.   He’s certainly not been intimidated this season and If he keeps up his pace, he will no doubt be in consideration.

LEIF REINGAARD- D MOSCOW MENACE @Zetterberg
Drafted 3rd overall in S91, LR continues to show why he could be the perfect defensive build.  Almost a point per game and defensive game that stuffs opposing players.  Tough to show how amazing that good defenders are to the success of the club simply by looking at offensive stats but LR has and will be a pivotal key to Moscow’s success for years to come and a true challenger for Rookie of the Year honors.

    THOR REINGAARD- RW WARSAW @N0HBDY
Warsaw has struggled the past few season but a player like the # 2 pick in last year draft, Thor Reingaard can easily turn that fortune around,  Big and strong he has tallied 8 g 8a for 16pts in 20 games.  Considering the strength of schedule and roster, Thor Reingaard should be in consideration for the ROTY trophy.

NOTE:  We are only 20 games into the season and this list could change dramatically in the next 20 or so games.  More to follow….

    RIP WHEELER
Its not often that I am completely impressed with my recruit and current Calgary forward, Rip Wheeler @ScottyP.  BUT……I have to say I am presently surprised by Rip’s season thus far.  9 g 18 a for 27pts in 21 games. If you don’t know, I work with Rip and I can constantly get on him about clicking welfare instead of taking two minutes to type something.  However, this season he is in top 10 in scoring and is killing it. I hope he continues his success until my player Ninefingers makes it to the show to stop him………Violently

Well, 10,390th.. I've been subtley keeping track of when I would hit this milestone after seeing that I would hit it with Analfist, my 9th player. I thought about doing a full media spot, but I doubt anyone really wants to read about each of my players. So this is what the timeline looks like, and how I reached 10,000 TPE...

    S30 - Ethan Osborne 1212 TPE
    S38 - Jake Wylde 1116 TPE
    S48 - Unassisted 1249 TPE
    S52 - Rhett DeGrath 1286 TPE

    S69 - Benny Graves 1520 TPE
    S78 - Hard Markinson 1786 TPE
    S88 - S.nubbed Analfist 1166 TPE

Kind of crazy to see it typed out. I've been super fortunate in having players that have done well in the sim, but obviously earning at a max rate does help. Shoutout to all the members that I played with/for during this time. What a wild ride. It's really crazy to think I hit Wylde's TPE already with my current player, but obviously these were different times. I still hate that I went inactive with Zhields, but it was right during the time of my first kid, and just going through a lot of things personally that took me away from the league for a bit. In my head I was always away for much longer than what I actually was. Technically, if I had played out that career, Graves would have been created the same time organically. It's hard to say what my favorite player has been, I've had so many different experiences. I am excited to play out my career and then hopefully recreate for the S100 class with my 10th player - which will be an ode to my first player and my son who was born on the 10th and it was my hockey number growing up.

Anyways, this is what 10,000 TPE looks like. I'm sure there are a few other members that have this like OD, CIA, BOOM, Bek, Frank, Phil, and probably more?

As for the DC player, maybe thinking of Mikko Aaltonen? He was primarily welfare but earned like over 1000 TPE..
