  1. 1 cup down, 1 to go. If Calgary takes it, I do the double this season!

  2. I think it will, it's just a caveat. In S35ish, I don't think we expected there to be a lull at S55ish (20 seasons later) so you never know. Basically I'm saying that I'm more confident in McWolf than I am in the league itself, which is saying a lot because this place has been around 62 seasons and has longevity as fuck. Also, do you really think no builders will be inducted in the interim? No one said you weren't there in this hypothetical - to bring in your own possible candidacy is way overthinking my statement. I think you're well on your way and will likely end up there at some point, but that's completely irrelevant.
  3. Good series to you as well. We may have the cup, we may even have the brooms, but Halifax has my respect. You guys fought like hell all season.
  4. The Ottawa Lynx have won the Founders Cup, in a 4 game sweep in the finals over the Halifax 21st. Some might be inclined to draw a parallel to real life in a way, with the expansion team (Halifax here, Vegas in the NHL) getting to the finals and losing to a team that was a bit overdue for a cup (although since I've only been back in charge of Ottawa for 4 seasons now, I can't really say we were that overdue, since the only real missed opportunity was S60 with Thompson, Gate, and that crew). All I can really say is that I'm proud of the boys, most of which lived up to any expectation I could possibly have put on them. From a GMing standpoint, it's perhaps a bit of a relief - after all, we got the short end of the 13th pick debacle at the draft, we had our late round steal succumb to CTE halfway through the season causing him to go a bit nuts and get himself banned, and we overcame the expansion draft rules which were rather improperly balanced. From a team standpoint, I've seen these guys grow all season and it's a testament to their work ethic that we got this done. @McWolf is going to eventually be a HOF builder (quote me on that 20 seasons from now) provided the league lasts long enough for him to make his mark, and with the way the last few draft classes have been I fully expect it to thrive moving forward. @oilmandan and @ChaceT are two of the best midseason pickups I've had over the entire time I've VHLM GMed, and given a little more time @monkeywrench15 would be right up there too, and I expect he'll be on that level moving forward. Trade acquisitions @Romaris and @Enorama cost a hefty price tag, but were worth every pick and then some. My one somewhat pre-built piece, @Elhandon got a glimpse of the team last year and I was happy to be able to get him back, he was a huge contributor on both ends of the ice. The few vets, @BOOM™, @Trifecta, and @hedgehog337 all had key roles to play for the team, especially Kriketers who will likely be Playoff MVP. Odinsson was better than Boom gives him credit for, and Trifecta was always good for being able to play whatever role I needed him to, whether with James or later Axelsson. @DaftRaincloud gave me a bit of a scare when he had his finals but he's now back to what he was, I expect he'll be top line center for us again next season, before making his eventual move to the bigs (he may or may not have one of his linemates back in Odinsson, who looks like he could go either way at the moment). Honestly, we're not set up too badly for next season in general, not likely to be cup contenders but could easily end up still competitive, especially if we find a goalie. Still, don't want to spend too much time looking forward to next season, right now we have a cup to celebrate! Also, I'll be commissioning two extra rings for trade casualties Andrianopoulos and Lombardi, they didn't directly play but they had a role to contribute, even if that role was just to get me other pieces. I wish both of them the best of luck moving forward. 573 words
  5. Agreed, to an extent. If there were lines sent in and not uploaded, absolutely. However, I find it hard to believe that they'd have noticed and uploaded my lines, but somehow missed his.
  6. The Founders Cup finals currently sit at 3 games to 0 in favor of Ottawa over the expansion Halifax, despite Halifax sitting on top the whole season. While at first glance this seems odd, Ottawa was full of draftees who started out the season low on TPE and have been gaining all season, and so it's arguable we're the best team on paper at this stage despite perhaps not being that in the early part of the season. Here is the issue, however: Halifax GM @ShawnGlade has claimed his new lines were not entered for the playoff series. This is a bold claim and if true, perhaps warrants some merit in a resim (although the league has historically set a high barrier on resims). However, Ottawa also entered new lines, and these were put into the sim - the Ottawa line change was minor in that it just added Lando Baxter back into the power play where he was intended to be all along (instead I had Bo Axelsson on both PP1 and PP2) but since Baxter was on the PP for game 3, I know Ottawa lines were entered. If my lines went in, it seems unlikely that Halifax's wouldn't be, so perhaps my counterpart simply forgot to enter them in? Who knows - I'd like to get the official scoop on this, because I'd much rather win the cup with no doubters than win it with an asterisk.
  7. Who tf is Luc-Pierre Lespineau-Lebrunette?
  8. Part I - Pick em' (Pick the correct winners of all three games for 2 TPE) Game 3 - Calgary Wranglers Game 4 - Quebec Meute Game 5 - Calgary Wranglers Part II - Predict the Score (Predict the correct score and winner of this game for 3 TPE) Game 4 - Calgary Wranglers @ Quebec Meute 3-1 QUE Part III - Player Predictions (Predict the correct player for each category, 1 TPE for each correct answer) Series leader in points: Canmore Series leader in goals: Louth Series leader in assists: Arroyo
  9. This would be fun. The guy who's in the finals against me, GMing my actual guy
  10. I mean I do think Ottawa were the stronger team on paper, at least at the end of the season if not most of the second half. I think you guys benefitted early on from guys like Revchenko who came into the season with a bunch of TPE, whereas most of my guys were draftees and took the season to get there, but in the end we had enough guys get to a reasonable point that I do think we were moderately the stronger team (and would have been more so, had it not been for Trifecta retiring James and creating Axelsson, thus splitting his season's worth of TPE between two guys). Given not being able to add past 200, any advantage a Revchenko might have over a Wilinsky for example, during the season, is negligible at this stage. Do I think we were 4 games to 1 stronger? Probably not. A justified result would probably have been Ottawa in 6 or 7, or even Vegas in 7. Ottawa in 5 wasn't an unheard of result, but it probably wasn't exactly the perfect result for talent balance.
  11. Our list doesn't have Ryan Kastelic, Bo Axelsson, Randoms, Jesse Wilson, or Milan Baros. It does have Jerome Mitchell, Braylon James, Hinga Dinga Durgen, and JP Desjardin who we don't still have.
  12. If I do ever drop Ottawa, I'd be happy to give it to you, but you're right that I'm more preparing you for a different spot when one opens up
  13. All part of the Calgary master plan. I GM Ottawa to a win over Vegas, to free up Saint, you call him up...
  14. I feel like anyone with less history with me would easily have been swayed by Marcellin or Brookside and their careers. Both good enough to at least have been briefly mentioned in HOF talks before rightly being sidelined in that regard, but miles ahead of anyone else I've done. It is actually Intranquilo, you were right, but I doubt many people would have been right. Hence trying to recreate a slightly more successful Intranquilo with Hyvarinen, to rebuild my wavering activity at the time (it didn't work, but oddly, the mostly inactive Hyvarinen still ended up being a slightly more successful Intranquilo with a third the TPE). Also, you either missed or intentionally didn't include Hrdina, not a bad choice though since he barely broke 100... (OOC: I had no idea Smarch was Robin Big Snake)
  15. Bobby Krims. My biggest draft bust. I'd say it's well worked out since then, for the league on the whole...
  16. I know what you're saying, connecting endurance to roster sizes. I'm not missing that. I'm thinking you might be missing part of my point, but let's just simplify this whole thing rather than saying we're each missing the other's point. What I'm saying is if we change the sim version, it is entirely possible we could come to some sort of conclusion via sliders and changing percentages etc. That conclusion may or may not have anything to do with changing the endurance. Yes, our rosters are smaller, and I haven't worked with V2, but let's let them keep testing it out (preferably in a way that the rest of us can see what the scores look like - I'm not convinced the majority of people are going to care if the scoring is up) before we assume that anything pertaining to endurance would need to be changed.
  17. Never said it was a simple fix. What I did say was that it has nothing to do with endurance. I'm finding it interesting that when the people who actually do the test sims spoke up in the thread, endurance wasn't even mentioned. In fact, no one said shit about endurance until you did. Now I'm not saying you're intentionally tying the endurance lead balloon to an issue you want to sink, but both Blues commented in the thread prior to you, and neither of them said a word about endurance until they were replying to your comment (seriously, I ctrl-f'ed "endurance" on the first page - not a single mention until your comment). Whether you're trying to or not, you're equating the two in people's minds, and it's a false equivalence. So not only isn't the issue "exclusively" endurance, I'm not convinced it's even partially endurance.
  18. Well according to them, the issue was with proportion of scoring, not with endurance. You raised endurance as a possible way to combat it - definitely not an either or.
  19. I don't think it's necessarily an either or. It's entirely possible (and was kind of generally where the discussion was leading until the last few posts) to switch to a new version with TA/GA without also making endurance require TPE. I want TA/GA. I'm also pretty well on board with you that I don't want to update endurance because it kind of goes against who we are as a league. There are ways to do both, we just have to see if it can be balanced properly.
  20. So the VHLM?
  21. takeaways and giveaways
  22. Accurate. Got notified from yours, not from mine
  23. I vote yes. TA and GA!
  24. @VHLM GM let's see if I get notified
  25. My first guy (Intranquilo) was drafted 14th in the VHLM after a PASS. Climbed to 4th by the VHL draft (ended up with the most TPE in the class, but still definitely outplayed by Japinder Singh and Kevyn Hesje at 1 and 2, so it was semi-fair). Very easy to slip in the VHLM draft as you'll have less time to stand out, but by the VHL draft, people have a decent idea of what level you are.
