Commissioner Beketov 9,133 Posted yesterday at 12:27 AM Commissioner Share Posted yesterday at 12:27 AM Happy New Years @Members! As we move toward another week in the life of the VHL we wanted to announce a bit of a shake up in how moderation has been handed. Obviously there have always been highs and lows with it and this past year was no exception but we saw a bit of drama near the end (as I'm sure many of you are aware) and the @Commissioner team decided to wanted to investigate things a bit and make a few changes to how things are handled. The start of that is that @frescoelmo has been let go from his position as head moderator. He is remaining on the mod team and we have nothing against him, we just feel like his talents have not aligned well with the goals of the moderation team that we are striving for. @samx has accepted the head position in his place. No other staffing changes to the mod team will take place at this time. Outside of staffing though Sam has written up some new policies to hopefully keep everything running smoothly, both for the mods and the members. Her main goals and objectives are as follows: Better documentation: Improved documentation policies so that we can better track on going issues. This will allow us to make better judgement calls when it comes to handing out punishments. Earlier intervention: Implementation of policies that make it so we intervene earlier during ongoing issues. That way we can hopefully help prevent the issue causing a larger, more dramatic scene. "Toe the liners": Implementation of new policy regarding actions of people who "toe the line" of what is allowed in the league and what isn't in order to allow for earlier intervention of these individuals before larger action feels necessary. Communication: Improved policy of how communication should happen between people who report issues, the people reported, and other parties that may be affected by a punishment (such as M commissioners). A common complaint is lack of communication. With new policy we aim to make sure that the people who need to be "in the know" about what is going on with a situation are properly informed. This also includes making sure that people who submit a form as a complaint know that we have seen it and are working on establishing what needs to follow. (If they did not submit anonymously). This also includes better communication between mods. There has been confusion at times between mods as to why certain actions were taken and we end up on different pages. The new policies aim to make sure that mods are all on the same page and have the proper information about why certain actions were taken. Correcting Bad Habits: Making sure we are following old policies correctly. Many policies have not changed however we got away from following policies and taking shortcuts. The aim is to be more on top of making sure we are following these new policies as well as being better about continuing old policies that were already in place. This includes better documentation of former infractions and punishments so people are not labelled as "repeat offenders" (for example) without evidence. The mods all have a more comprehensive version of these goals but those are the main outline. I feel like the last one makes an excellent point that there isn't a lot outwardly changing in the expectations the mods have of the community but more so a focus on making sure old policies are held up and followed, they were implemented for a reason. In general this shouldn't have a huge effect on most members but we wanted to make sure we were clear about what was going on so everyone could be on the same page. I appreciate you reading this far, feel free to take 2 uncapped for your troubles if you managed to read this far but don't mention it anywhere; I want to see if people have actually read everything without just searching for those 3 letters we love so much. @Commissioner @Moderator Ahma, tcookie, Dil and 21 others 15 1 3 1 3 1 Link to comment https://vhlforum.com/topic/154024-changes-to-moderation/ Share on other sites

I get what you’re saying, but immersion isn’t necessarily a moderator issue. There are a lot of people that do this and have varying play styles, just like any role playing game. You’re always going to have some people that play it less seriously no matter what the game is, so the people running it have to find a happy medium that welcomes everyone. At the end of the day like I said, silly names don’t hurt anyone and if they “toe the line” or completely cross it, that’s when the mods get involved. sadie 1 Link to comment https://vhlforum.com/topic/154024-changes-to-moderation/#findComment-1049460 Share on other sites
