S43 Announcements and Changes

First off, congratulations to the Cologne Express and the Brampton Blades on your recent championships. Each of you put in a lot of hard work and effort, and have been rewarded with the best award the VHL(M) can offer.

Going into Season 43, there are going to be a couple of changes that focus primarily on recruitment and retainment. It's no secret that recruitment and retainment have decreased over the past couple of seasons, as evidenced by some of the recent draft classes. As a result, we will be making changes to recruitment rewards, the welfare and pension system, the player store, and VHLM Simming.

Recruitment Rewards

In the past, we've tried to find a balance between rewarding those who recruit successfully and making sure the reward for doing so was in line with other ways of earning TPE around the site. Previously, we rewarded members for recruiting new members by distributing TPE for every 100 TPE earned by a new member, up to a grand total of 17 TPE per new member. These changes will follow a similar system, but will change the payout per TPE.

From now on, new recruits will result in a reward of 3 TPE when the recruit hits 50 TPE, and 10 TPE when the recruit hits 200 TPE, resulting in a possible 13 TPE per new recruit. While the total amount of TPE per recruit is decreasing, we believe that having the ability to earn the max TPE much earlier is an equal payoff.

Welfare and Pension

Currently, a member's welfare and pension plan are decided based on the number of previous players who have hit 400 TPE. Going forward, we will be changing this to include a member's current player. This change will reward members for their current work and will help bridge the advantage that older members have over newer members. However, obviously as a Point Task based league, those who continue to do their point tasks week in and week out will be rewarded more than those who do not. This change will go into effect the first PT week of Season 43 (4/27).

Player Store

There are four changes to the player store; one that focuses on new members, one that focuses on older players, one that affects everyone equally, and one that focuses on the welfare and pension upgrade.

Starting now, all new members (or returning members who choose to forgo carryover) will be given a $2,000,000 signing bonus, which can either be spent to give your player an upgrade on earning TPE or could be saved for future purchases. This change is also applied retroactively to all S44 players who fit this criteria.

For the oldies:

Old But Not Forgotten - $10,000,000

-Must be purchased in the off-season prior to depreciation in either your 7th or 8th season
-Your attributes will be depreciated 1% less than normal in your 7th season, or 2% less in your 8th
-4% instead of 5% in 7th season, 5% instead of 7% in 8th season

Previously, the +1 welfare upgrade cost a flat $2,000,000 no matter your pension level. However, in a capped TPE system, the difference between moving from 2 TPE to 3 TPE is not the same as moving from 3 TPE to 4 TPE and 4 TPE to 5 TPE. Therefore, we are instituting a slight price adjustment to these upgrades. If your pension level increases during the season, the upgrade you bought before the season still applies.

Welfare Upgrade - $2,000,000

-Add +1 TPE to your welfare claim (2TPE to 3TPE/week).
-Stays active for only the season that it is purchased.

Pension I Upgrade - $2,500,000
-Add +1 TPE to your Pension I claim (3TPE to 4TPE/week).
-Stays active for only the season that it is purchased.

Pension II Upgrade - $3,000,000
-Add +1 TPE to your Pension II claim (4TPE to 5TPE/week).
-Stays active for only the season that it is purchased.

And finally, members can now only purchase one of the Welfare upgrade OR the VHL.com Upgrade. Purchasing both of these upgrades could potentially result in a rather easy 7 TPE, which doesn't fit with our mission of being primarily a point task based league. You may still purchase both the Point Task upgrade and the VHL.com Upgrade.

VHLM Simming

Last but not least (and perhaps most importantly), starting Seasion 43, the VHLM will be getting its own simmer and client file. Higgins will be taking over this responsibility. Gone will be the days of VHL changes overriding those of the VHLM. This will provide the VHLM a stable simming environment and the league will no longer be the red-headed step-child of the client file.

The last one is the best for the VHLM

Yes having games posted as their simmed should help VHLM activity but the biggest determinant of activity is still VHLM GMs imo

Well this way they can get updated more during the season, like each week like the VHL and lines no longer have to be screwed up by the "parent" VHL team.

Are we using a different sim engine this season or was it just a weird occurrence that the VHLM game had giveaways and takeaways?

The Top Prospect and All-Star Games are always simmed on different settings/sim engine.

I don't know exactly why, other than maybe to say 'fuck you' to the goalies.

STHS forces v2 to be used for all-star games : - )

Yes, before this change the Old But Not Forgotten brought depreciation down to 6% for a player in their final season, but the Jagr ($4M cheaper) actually saved more TPE. So this 2% in the final season instead of 1% makes it more lucrative than the Jagr.
