My Honest Opinion : Why there's no consistency in award voting.

Recommended Posts

You already know my opinion to be honest. I think Karnage should have won the MVP Award last season. This being said, I'll take a look at the recent award and see how the voting is so inconsistent. Lets start with season 37.

S37

MVP - Scotty Campbell Trophy: Tuomas Tukio (QUE)
Rightful winner : Tukio.

Despite having Tordahl at 115 pts and 51 goals, Tukio was dominating while having a OK team. Their best scorer was Clifford (what a scrub) with 74 pts.

Most Outstanding Player (player vote) - Brett Slobodzian Trophy: Tuomas Tukio (QUE)
Rightful winner : Tukio

Having a .930 save pct, 13 SH and 1.82 GAA is decent, so I guess, it's okay.

-------------------
S38

MVP - Scotty Campbell Trophy: Tuomas Tukio (NYA)
Tukio (NYA) - 7, Tordahl (NYA) - 3
Rightful Winner : Tordahl/Tukio

Okay, tough decision here. Tukio had another solid season with 50 wins, .937 SV% and a 1.63GAA. New York dominated the league with 116 pts. But are you fucking kidding me ? Tordahl having a 57 goals season while arguably having one of the best goalie group in the league I ever saw. Tukio, Lebeau, Bagelface, Smyl, Moher,
Mike Szatkowski Jr. and Brookside. Holy shit, that's some good goaltenders.
Oh yeah, that's for a total of 128 pts compared to 115 for the second in the league. His best teammate was....XXX with a decent 98 pts. From my stand point, Tordahl deserved the MVP. Could be arguable tho. (with Tukio)

Most Outstanding Player (player vote) - Brett Slobodzian Trophy: Tuomas Tukio (NYA)
Rightful Winner : Tuomas Tukio

Okay, this trophy should be simple. Without any analysis of who's playing against who, it's simply a OMG, who's the best player in the league ? Well, having 50 wins and a .937SV% is hard to skip. I know I sucked Tordahl's dick just above that, but considering the shot amount he received, Tukio was simply really good and deserved that Most Outstanding Player. Someone could argue that Tordahl deserved that trophy too.

---------------------------
S39
MVP - Scotty Campbell Trophy: Odin Tordahl (NYA)
Tordahl (NYA) - 6, Bagelface (VAS) - 3, Moher (DAV) - 1
Rightful Winner: Bagelface

Another domination by NY this season. Okay, this is actually a tough decision, but if we go with a consistent vote, the best way to look at this is comparing to the S37 winner, Tukio. Don't get me wrong, Tordahl had an amazing season with the Americans. 127 pts, 200 hits and 65 freaking goals (Kellinger, his center, with 121 pts too). Holy shit. Keeping in mind that the Most Valuable player to HIS team, I must say, if you remember, the Iron eagles were no way near any top team during that season without Bagelface. I was in place at the time, and the team acquired Collier, Sound, and salmon at the deadline. Which means that the team played with a shit roster for 60% of the season. Holdup, Bagelface finished second in the league for the SV% with .927 (compared to 9.28 for Smyl) and the best GAA with 1.84 with a 1st defensemen with 74 oa ? Are you kidding me ? Considering the team had only Lindberg and Janssen for the majority of the season, we can all agree that Bagelface helped the team a lot. The Iron Eagles ended with 101 pts, for the 3rd best in the league.

Why I'm comparing this to S37 is, if we say that Tukio won with approximately the same stats, AND a way better team in term of oa (Valiq brothers (85/83/75) and Gregory Glass as good as the second best D in Vasteras, saying that Bagelface wasn't THE most valuable player to his team is ridiculous.

Most Outstanding Player (player vote) - Brett Slobodzian Trophy: Odin Tordahl (NYA)

Tordahl (NYA) - 18, Moher (DAV) - 4, Kellinger (NYA) - 2, Bagelface (NYA) - 2

Rightful Winner : Tordahl

Again, hat off to Bagelface for his season, but there's no other winner than Tordahl here. A career high of 65 goals (I think?) and 127 pts is just too good. Oh yeah, an amazing amount of freaking 200 hits. Sorry, no competition here.

-----------------

S40

MVP - Scotty Campbell Trophy: Wesley Kellinger (COL)

Kellinger (COL) - 4, Lindberg (VAS/RIG) - 3, McQueen (RIG) - 2, Tordahl (NYA) - 1

Rightful Winner : Lindberg

This is one of the most absurd choice of recent memory. Are you fucking serious with that ? Lindberg didn't won MVP with a freaking 130 season pts while his top winger was fucking Tyrone Williams ? You guys must be kidding be right now. I'll try to stay neutral on that since it's my player, but what an absurd choice. Okay, let,s start off with the analysis of the winner...Kellinger. Kellinger was nominated after an amazing 116, grats to him obviously. Again, considering the fact that it's the MOST VALUABLE PLAYER TO HIS TEAM, how can Kellinger, having Richardson and O'Malley around him could be considered as the MVP ? Lindberg had an impressive 97 pts in 51 game with the Eagles...with freaking Tyrone Williams as his best teammate. Yes, of course, there was some inflation due being the only good player in the team, but making Tyrone go with a 53 goals season and 101...there must be something MVP around that. Even when getting traded to Riga, which was a beast team, Lindberg had an impressive 1.52 pts per game...You remove Lindberg from the eagles that season, they are around Davos and the Bears in term of quality. (who ended up with an impressive 56 losts)

Lindberg's season is comparable of O'Malley's season (S44) in term of domination....yet loosing the MVP.

Most Outstanding Player (player vote) - Brett Slobodzian Trophy: Niklas Lindberg (VAS/RIG)
Lindberg (VAS/RIG) - 35, Low (NYA) - 8, Kellinger (COL) - 3, Moher (DAV/QUE) - 1

Rightful Winner : Lindberg

65 goals, 129 pts, 224 hits, enough said. Kellinger with an impressive 3 votes.

--------------------

S41

MVP - Scotty Campbell Trophy: Mike Szatkowski Jr. (RIG)
Szatkowski Jr. (RIG) - 7, Thomassen (QUE) - 2, Wolf (QUE) - 1
Rightful Winner  :  Bruno Wolf

Okay, this one is also tricky since we could compare the season that Mike had with the one Tukio and Eggly had. BUT, Mike probably had the better team in front of him compared to those 2 goaltenders. Gow x2. McQueen and Fjorstrom Villeneuve and Sixten in front of him. That's actually pretty good. So if we look just at the numbers, okay, Mike had a similar season. But, 2 other goaltenders had similar season too DURING that season. Blaine Olynick and Brick Wahl had a A SV% of .924 and .923 (compared to .926 for Mike) and a GAA of 1.95 and 1.90 (compared to 1.89 for Mike). Is this enough for MVP ? Again, if we look only at the numbers and compared them to Tukio and Bagelface, maybe. But I don't think it's MVP material for that season.

The rightful winner...for me is...Bruno Wolf. Yes, Thomassen and him had an amazing season together...some people argued on who makes the other player better...and from the Most Outstanding Vote, we can guess who had the privilege to receive the awards. What is to consider here...yes, Thomassen had an amazing season...but his game was pretty much a 1 way game. Bruno Wolf had an amazing 362 fucking hits, combined with an impressive 62 goals scored. Damn son, that's some impressive number. What played against Wolf is probably playing with Thomassen and his personality (dickish). Unfortunately, an user's personality seems to have a big importance in the voting process nowadays....which shouldn't be the case.

Most Outstanding Player (player vote) - Brett Slobodzian Trophy: Aksel Thomassen (QUE)

Thomassen (QUE) - 12, Wolf (QUE) - 11, Szatkowski Jr. (RIG) - 11, Slaughter (NYA) - 6, Bentley (NYA) - 1

Rightful Winner : Bruno Wolf

Grats to Thomassen for his amazing season...but considering the hits and the goals that Wolf scored he should have won that. It's arguable, but it's Wolf for me. Lolzy at 11 votes for Szatkowski Jr tho. No offense to Mike

I'll continue this one day with s42 and onward.

My title is actually wrong...there's some consistency in award voting...the consistency of being WRONG.

Nice try Boubabi. There have only been a few awards handed out that I personally felt were a bit biased. Realistically speaking we have pretty good integrity when it comes to award voting, and MVP doesn't just go to the person who gets the most points.

The quality of the team in front of you is only half the argument. People seem obsessed with this idea that if they do well with no team it means MVP honors. Forgetting the fact that it is actually a lot easier to do that in the sim, than it is to play good on a good team.

At the end of the day though it all comes down to the stats. Not just just stats in comparison to how good your team is on paper either. If you have the best team in the league on paper but only a single forward on that team has the 100 point ratio with nobody else being over a point per game, and that team still wins the Victory Cup with average goalie performance? He's your MVP. Doesn't matter how much TPE is around him, if he was the only one on the roster to get it done and his team still did well it makes sense. That is of course a hypothesis with zero competition, and in some of your sample cases your pick was either the one picked, or alternatively your pick was barely voted out implying that it was a tough race (which it was in a lot of cases.)

becuz its wolf

Wolf had Thomassen. It was tough to pick one or the other for MVP when both were amazing.

And for the record, I didn't vote O'Malley this year and think that was one of the few times we've had an unjust MVP. Only because O'Malley had both Klose and Koenig. I actually voted Karnage for MVP, as it was between him, Wingate and Wylde (who wasn't even on the ballot) for me personally.

Your opinion honestly sucks.

- my honest opinion on everyone else's honest opinion...

I hold the same opinion as you.

How do you feel about my opinion now bitch.
