  1. Just now, Victor said:

I don't think it's a particularly long list tbh. Most people have been on the ballot, just fell off at some point (like Kellinger, Milo, Szatkowski Jr.).

But would be good to try to rank the best players not in the HOF. I think I tried once and there's just too many.

Very true, I could also make it attempt to project a currently active player's chances as well, that would be pretty cool.

  2. 1. Toronto sadly missed the playoffs this season -- are you surprised by that, or was it 'to be expected'?

I think it was "to be expected", but it's still disappointing; we certainly weren't as bad as people expected us to be imo. I think we definitely need to improve on our overtime record next season though.

    2. With only two games left, how would you rate the teams season out of 10?

I think we exceeded expectations a tiny bit, so I'll say 6.5.

    3. What about rating your individual season... again out of 10.

I was very disappointed with my offensive statistics this season, but I did manage to pile up a decent amount of hits, so I can't complain too much. I really wanna take the next step offensively next year.

    4. Toronto resigned defensemen Aron Nielsen for his final season in S71, what do you think about that?

I love it. His agent and mine go way back; he's been a great locker room add and it's great to see him active again.

    5. With only two games left, and the post-season looming ahead, what would you do during the downtime to keep things interesting in the locker room?

Nothing; I sit in the locker room for two straight weeks until the next season starts.

    6. DCD wants us to beat New York tomorrow, should we?

Hmm, that's tough. I don't care too much personally, but I would love to see Seattle miss the playoffs this season somehow.

  3. Making my HoF Builder article awhile ago got me thinking; I certainly remember holding many of the positions that other builders have had, so let's go over what a hypothetical campaign to get @Corco into the HoF as a builder would look like.

    The Pros

League Jobs/Positions Held: I've been around on the VHL since S28, with some spots of inactivity since then (S44-54, S57-S68), but I'd say that 21 inactive seasons out of the last 42 isn't the worst thing in the world. I've certainly done my fair share of league jobs in that time, those jobs being: VHL GM, VHLM GM, VHLM Commish, Updater, WJC Commish, Statistician, & Updater. If I was ever inducted, this would put me in a tie for 2nd-all time among builders in terms of League Job quantity (you can view the spreadsheet I used HERE, Victor has his own slightly different spreadsheet HERE). Perhaps my current work cultivating and improving our historical statkeeping will give me a bump here.

VHLM Commissioner/Creating the WJC: When I was a VHLM Commissioner my main goal was to make sure activity was promoted above all else, and I did my best to institute/enforce rules and policies that would do just that. But that wasn't enough, so I asked a bunch of new members what would help make them more active. The most numerous response was to be featured in more games/tournaments, and thus, the WJC was born. I created everything from scratch for the 1st WJC in S55, and I would be lying if I said it didn't contribute to the burnout I would experience a few seasons later; it was worth it in the end though, as I was very happy to see how popular it had become when I returned in S69.

    The Cons

Vasteras: This will likely be the biggest reason I wouldn't be voted in as a builder; my time as Vasteras GM was largely successful, and negatively damaged my reputation throughout the league. Most of the Builders in the HoF that have been GMs have been successful, hence their induction. Statistically, my tenure wasn't horrible; of all VHL General Managers with at least 300 games as GM, I rank 21st in PTS, ahead of Builder HoFs such as David Knight, Vince Wong (STZ), Victor, Jardy, Noah Lefevre, Jim Gow, and others. When you calculate Total Points per # of seasons GM'd, I'm above builders like Sandro, Tyler, Frank, Bushito, and Mike Szatkowski as well; these stats don't necessarily make you a good GM though, and I good GM I was not. I tried my best, but the results just never came.

VHL Players in the Hall of Fame: There are only 6 Builders in the Hall of Fame who have never had a player make the Hall of Fame: PensFan101, Sandro, Diamond_ace, Devise, flyersfan, and eaglesfan. You could make the case that the latter 4's achievements speak for themselves, but I'm not exactly sure the same could be said for Sandro/PensFan (no offense to either of them, as I might just be ignorant since I wasn't around for their peak activity levels). All of those members have had a plethora of great players, but none great enough to make it into the Hall; that may change soon though, as @flyersfan1453's Smitty Werbenjagermanjensen has a good chance of making it.

I have only ever really been devoted to a player for their full 8 seasons with one of my players, Eggly Bagelface, and while he was one of the leagues best goalies during his prime, the beginning of his career was too poor to give him any HoF consideration; my best chance if I stuck around for all 8 seasons was probably with Rudolph Schmeckeldorf, who was a big part of the Titans dynasty in the S50s.

  4. Tyson Kohler

    @Kendrick
Statistical rankings in comparison to all Hall-of-Fame forwards:

    Goals: 25th of 71
    Assists: 55th of 71
    Points: 42nd of 71
    +/-: 12th of 71
    Hits: 44th of 71
    SHT%: 42nd of 68
    SB: 55th of 62
    Powerplay PTS: 38th of 55
Penalty Kill PTS: 2nd of 51
    Game-Winning Goals: 5th of 70
    Game-Tying Goals: 15th of 52

The reason why the German winger has not been inducted yet is his extreme lack of hardware; Kohler only ever won one individual award in his entire career (S51 Funk Trophy - Most Improved Player), despite scoring over 750 points in the VHL. He only ever scored below a PPG once in his career (68PTS in S50), and scored over 100PTS for the next 4 consecutive seasons.
Where Kohler really shines is his special teams/intangible numbers; he has the 2nd most goals on the Penalty Kill of all Hall of Famers with full stats, as well as having the 5th most Game Tying goals. Game Tying goals are interesting, as they actually mean something as opposed to Game Winning goals, which aren’t as reliable, given that the player who scores the 2nd goal for his team in a 10-1 victory will get credit for the Game Winning Goal. Kohler was the ultimate come-from-behind player during his era; when your team was down and needing a goal, there was nobody better in the league than him at getting their team even on the scoreboard. I think he’ll eventually get in, but on a relatively light ballot.

    Bobby Digital

Image result for steve eminger rangers

    @gorlab
Statistical Playoff rankings in comparison to all Hall-of-Fame defensemen:

    Games Played: 9th of 29
    Goals: 21st of 29
    Assists: 8th of 29
    Points: 9th of 29
    +/-: 8th of 29
    Hits: 7th of 29
    SHT%: 2nd of 28
    SB: 8th of 26

Bobby Digital will not be entering the VHL Hall of Fame; most of his career stats are only better than Petr Shirokov, who played nearly half the games Digital did. HOWEVER, if there was a VHL Playoff Hall of Fame, Digital would certainly get great consideration. The Ukranian defenseman ranks highly in nearly major stat category for defensemen aside from goals, but Digital was never known for his goal-scoring prowess (he actually managed to score 80 points in S54 without scoring a single goal - incredible!). Digital did take home some hardware over the course of his career as well, winning the Beketov Trophy (Most Assists) in S54 and the now-defunct Grimm Jonsson Trophy (Top Leader) in S55; he would also be a part of two consecutive cup winning Americans teams in S52 and S53.

There are probably some other notable HoF snubs over the years, but I haven’t figured out how to add positions to my career stats spreadsheet yet, so until then these two will have to do. Give me my bonus TPE.

I forgot to apologize to goalies in my original post. Sorry I didn't include you, this was enough work!

As long as it’s getting used I’m happy!

  6. I completed compiling all of the IIHF tournaments into one spreadsheet, found here. On a first lookthrough, here are some of the things I found most interesting.

    • The record for most points scored in the Medal Round of any IIHF tournament was tied this season! @Tagger's Edwin THE Encarnacion scored 8 points in the S70 World Juniors, which surpassed the previous World Juniors record of 7, set by @Steve's Guy LeGrande in S67. Encarnacion's 8 points tied the current international record, set by American HOF forward Gabriel McAllister in the S60 World Cup, although you could argue that Encarnacion's record is more impressive as he compiled the same amount of points in one less game.
    • The World Juniors of S55 were possibly the wonkiest ever, and I can provide the reason. That was the 1st ever VHL WJC, and I was in charge of the entire tournament; I chose to sim the tournament on either V1.5 or V2.0 of STHS for whatever reason, and the results were certainly entertaining. Four of the top 10 Round Robin performances of all time came from that WJC ( @Smarch's Rusty Trombone (23P), @Frank's Felix Savard (21P), @Banackock's Mattias Forsberg (20P), & @boubabi's Ay Ay Ron (18P))

How to Filter Data: When you open the sheet, click on "Data -> Filter Views -> Create new temporary filter view"; this will add buttons to every column that when you click them, allow you to sort out data you don't wish to see. Don't worry about this screwing up the source data, as these views are read-only.

    New week, six questions.

    1. Did you watch or participate in the WJC at all? Who were you cheering for if you weren't in them yourselves.

Yes! I was certainly cheering for myself, but I had a decent experience all-around; it was certainly an improvement from my WJC last season.

    2. Both D. Cheezy and C. Magnum made team World's roster this season, and in the medal round, Magnum led his team in points with six in two games including four in a thrilling 7-5 Canadian victory. Do you believe this offensive burst is a prediction of what's to come from him in Toronto?

i sure hope so; he’s still just getting his feet steady in the VHL right now, but he’s getting more comfortable with each passing day.

    3. Future Legion prospect Erik Killinger led the medal round in goals with four, but had no assists... also had sixteen shots. Is he a puck hog or what?!

I sure hope not lol! That’s Magnum’s future line mate, an Magnum himself is more of a shooter than a passer, so we’ll see how the two of them gel.

    4. Jaxx Hextall performed 'lights out', are you excited for him to arrive in Toronto?

Absolutely, having a stud franchise goalie in the VHL is paramount.

    5. Five! Five legion prospects -- Graves, Killinger, Wolfe, Hextall and McDagg -- all made the Canadian WJC roster. Do you think this increases their confidence heading into the VHL at all, or entices them to continue developing their players? *cough*

Absolutely; hopefully their WJC performance sparks them to return to their draft-levels of activity.

    6. Most of this was WJC related, so let's toss in a random question. Lasagna or spaghetti and meatballs?

Neither, not a huge fan of Italian food if I’m being quite honest.

    New questions for the week!

    1. We've had a lot of team based questions lately, so let's shake it up with some personal questions. Get to know your player a little more, eh? Let's start of with a classic... what are some of your favorite pump-up songs you play before a game?

    2. What about your pre and post game rituals?

    3. Do you have any superstitions? Do you have to wear a lucky charm for example?

    4. Do you prefer morning, afternoon or evening games?

    5. What are some of your favorite 'unhealthy' meals?

    6. What are some of your favorite sugary drinks?

    1. Ram Ranch (EDM Mix)

    2. Pregame: Must sacrifice one virgin to the hockey gods on a sacrificial table in the center of the locker room. Postgame: Getting high on bath salts in the team shower.

    3. I do! The way I go to the bathroom before the game determines how I will do that night! Going #1 means more goals, and Going #2 means more assists.

    4. Morning games, I'm coked out of my mind by noon.

    5. Horse meat and freshly ground acorns. My guilty pleasure, what can I say?

    6. Either diabetic human blood, or Sunny D; it's a toss-up really.
