  8. The New Look Wranglers In: C - Jóhannes Vilhjálmsson (Call-up from Saskatoon Wild) Out: C - Xander Finn (Retirement) LW - Ivan Morozov (Free Agency) D - Boner (Free Agency) Notable Prospects: C - Josh Stronk 13th pick of S61 VHL Draft It's still early in the off-season, but for the most part, the Calgary Wranglers seem to be taking the "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" route in preparations for next season. Currently, the only new face on the roster is rookie Jóhannes Vilhjálmsson. Coming fresh off of a Founder's Cup victory with the Saskatoon Wild, Jóhannes is the first of the three Vilhjálmsson brothers to reach the VHL, and the most promising of them to boot. He will be replacing the retiring Xander Finn in the lineup and will likely be competing with the Meute's duo of Tristan Iseult and Bryce Zhields as well as incoming draftees Matt Thompson and Samuel Gate in what might be one of the most interesting rookie of the year races we've seen in awhile. The Wranglers will also be missing out on the services of Ivan Morozov and Boner, as both will be testing the waters of free agency. Only the future will tell if GM Tyler Barabash makes an effort to resign them or goes for a bigger splash in the marketplace. As for the future of Calgary, well the future is now as youngsters Evan R. Lawson and Oyorra Arroyo already played with the team last season. The only notable prospect is VHML veteran Josh Stronk, who may be on the verge of finally making the jump to the pros this season. Calgary also has just one draft pick in tonight's draft, and while the draft is deep, it's questionable whether the 13th pick will bring in a future star. Still, Calgary proved this season that they are already a contender, and their young core will keep them in the conversation for the next few seasons.

  11. @Green beat me by 5 points for the highest total among all groups. Interestingly we don't have any players in common.
  12. Y'all let a rook beat you ?
  13. Let's do it!
  14. So it'd basically be a low-maintenance filler player then? If the league needs fillers to replace bots and low TPE inactives, I don't see the harm in it. The TPE levels are low enough that it's not really worth full attention like a regular player would be and being optional people who don't want to bother don't have to.

  18. The Wranglers championship hopes came to an end this week after falling victim to the top seeded New York Americans in 6 games. Calgary started the series off on the right foot by forcing overtime in game one. Things turned the Wranglers way late in the overtime period, where Keaton Louth and Oyorra Arroyo unleashed a flurry of 4 shots in about 7 seconds, ending when the rookie Arroyo netted the puck to give Calgary the win in game one. New York took care of business in game 2, but game 3 was a different story. Despite outshooting the Wranglers 50-26, this one went scoreless all the way into double overtime where Sergei Komarov finally scored on his 7th shot of the game. It was all Wranglers in game 4 thanks to a pair of first period goals by Niko Bogdanovic. New York looked greatly out of sorts as they spent 22 minutes in the penalty box and gave up 3 power play goals. The Americans looked to take game 5 with a 2 goal lead early, but the Wranglers fought back to tie it in the 3rd and ultimately force another double overtime game. New York held stout at the end though and persevered once again to put Calgary on the brink of elimination. The Wranglers came out firing in game 6, outshooting the Americans 18-12 in the first period but still ended up behind 2-1. New York put the clamps on from there, and a pair of insurance goals in the 3rd secured the win and their ticket to the finals. Calgary fans were disheartened by the loss, but they are ripe with anticipation for what next season will bring. Claiming for last week since I wrote this on Saturday and the board was dead.
