If someone could have time to get the player averages for the 35 gap and the averages for the 15 gap with version 6 removed that would be excellent. I do believe version 6 is heavily skewing our numbers. Double digits of players above 100 points in the other 5 and then 0 in that one (and no one is even close) just doesn’t make sense.

132 pt avg for top player

20 players over 100 pts on avg

I'm not against a mentor program for this reason. I think GMs should be doing whatever they can to help their teams, and a good GM should make the mentor team meaningless. But if a dedicated group of people were put in place, just so people know who to ask, I'm cool with it.

Just a note here before we start trying to work out the details--I think it's easy to get "I'll be the person to ask if your GM isn't around" confused with aggressively forcing ourselves on new members and bombarding them with borderline meaningless messages. I don't like how the PBE's mentoring/development league scouting is run because I think it crosses that line, but we could still take a page from their book in looking into their mentoring system and seeing what we do and don't like about it.

The PBE also hires known trolls as mentors and then doesn't understand when rookies fail to understand the basics of the league. The mentor assigned to me was useless at his best and freaking annoying at his worst. There's a way to do it right.

  3. MOSKAU - We were treated to a rare defensive showdown yesterday in Moscow, as they fell 1-0 to the hands of the Chicago Phoenix. Papa Emeritus @Beketov stopped 18 of 19 shots, but ended up being outplayed by β-CHI G, who stopped all 52 shots it faced for its second win of the regular season. Sunrise van de Schubbekuteveen @Thunfish scored the lone goal early in the third frame, breaking the scoreless tie that had lasted for the first 40:17 of the game. With the loss the Menace fall to back to .500, sporting a 3-3 record good for the 4th place in the European Conference.

  4. MOSKAU - A couple weeks after being crowned Europe's best team for a second straight season, the Moscow Menace was back on the ice for their first game of Season 82, as they welcome the HC Davos Dynamo on their ice. Zdeno Chara @Agito didn't waste any time, as he opened the festivities with a powerplay tally within the 70 seconds of the season. Luc Tessier @KC15 nswered quickly for the visiting team, but the Moscow powerhouse was too strong for their opponents. Duncan Idaho @OrbitingDeathThe Seabasstard @Seabass and Kyosti Karjalainen @UnkemptCL4PTP all ended up scoring, helping the Menace to a 5-2 win in which they outshot the rebuilders 63-29.

  5. To be fair, I don't think any of our VHLM GMs is unaware that they need to be mentors to the new members. I can make a post to remind them, but I don't think this is the issue here. I think this was just an idea to add extra members that would be dedicated to help the new members, without having the interest of their own team in the back of their head. Unbiased members if you will, that could also be useful in the team picking process, before members get to be helped by their GMs.

Sure, some of their responsibilities will overlap with GMs and AGMs responsibilities, but I feel to see how having more members helping our new member base a bad thing

I think a few things need to happen.

    1) We need to figure out what we are doing with the waiver proposal system. Are we automating it and making it portal based or not? I know we were collecting opinions from M GMs but it seems like yet again we just let something die without seeing it through. And although I'm going off-topic now, I would like to reiterate that I think it's important we make this change. The waiver system as it currently exists is a super grindy and taxing process for M management. I get some arguments from both sides, but I think it would be beneficial to change this so management isn't getting burnt out with waiver claims.

I was gonna ask GMs again after the ad that's currently bringing a lot of new members. When I asked them the first time, it was in a dead offseason period and three of the GMs that were tagged in it we're leaving in the same offseason, so we didn't get much from them. I didn't forget about it, but I wasn't gonna ask Frank his opinion on the current system when he's been a GM for literally 5 minutes either.

I don't know if there's even set criteria for the "Top M GM" award, I thought it was just voted on by the other GM's. I believe it's recently changed to being decided on by the M Commies.

It's voted by the GMs. Recently, we've seen a shift with pre-ballot discussion being more about the retention aspect of GMing in the minors, less about the results of the team, and the votes have gone that way as well. I'm down to do make the guideline for it more clear, that it should be about retention more than about winning, but as long as the GMs vote, there's only so much I can do personally.

But it's tough to actually know how good a GM is at retention and at growing top talent, until their players make it to the VHL at least.
