Slaeter Fjorsstrom celebrating his first VHL playoff goal in game two

Rookie defenseman Slaeter Fjorsstrom is having a great playoffs so far with Riga, leading all defensemen with eight points in eight games.

"It's a blast.  I love pressure games, and feel I am able to contribute at a high level in a playoff situation.  The boys have been playing great, and I love the feeling of traveling with the team night in, night out."

Riga, who were in a rebuilding state just two seasons ago in Season 35, are currently leading HC Davos Dynamo two games to none in their best of seven series.  The series heads back to Riga for games three and four.

"It's going to be rocking especially after being without playoff hockey the last few seasons.  The fans in Riga are great, and we hope to continue winning for them.  Davos is a great team, and know how to come back from a series deficit, so we have to keep playing our game."

Haha, yeah he's definitely the biggest pussy on the board. DT is my teammate and at least he had the balls to go a yard against me when he was mad. I've been the biggest nuisance to Robbie since he's got here and he doesn't even have the decency to put me on his "hit list". Boom made it after one sig change. I change his sig multiple times AND said he cums on pictures of his mother and that he fucks dogs. Among other things. Yet all he does is PRIVATELY and meekly whine that I changed his member title and about how he's going to flaunt my power abuse. Well no shit. *I* was flaunting the hypocritical abuse of power. He acts like someone might give half a shit. It's such a futile trolling effort.
And talk about predictable. In two days he'll come in here and be like "lol looks liek I ruffled some feathers mishun acomplished! i love how MAD everyone is and how successful a troll i am." Yeah Robbie, good work, now show us how you can count all the way to potato you rectum spelunker. There is not a single member here who couldn't be better at "trolling" than him. 701 blows him out of the fucking water on every perceivable angle. He managed to piss off way more people without documenting it some kindergarten fucking theatre bill in his fucktard signature, AND without resorting to the cheapest fucking shots. And the kicker is, he was/is still a pretty fucking good member! And not a bad dude.

I'm not going to lie, I want nothing more than Robbie to be the successful troll that he wants to be. To bring upon genuine disconchord and actually maybe ruffle feathers. Something like that could actually be amusing. But his efforts are so fucking hamfisted it's like watching a pig trying to open a door by scratching his ass on it. He's like a 14 year old Youtuber with a cellphone camera being like "HEY EVERYONE WELCOME TO JACKASS XXX!" and then spending 10 minutes hitting himself in the balls and then shoving over a sweet old lady at the end. He is honesty just 3edgy4this fucking league. I cannot stress that enough.

I honestly cannot wait for him to get back, I.can.not.wait. I just want to see what his juvenile FAS brain comes up with that will somehow make him look even fucking more dumb. I hope he can stay forever, it's like watching the Special Olympics.

In Season 37 a young Grecian defenseman named Dimothenis Vlasis declared for the VHL Entry draft and not many people though something of it. His player agent Shawn Howard didn’t have much success in bringing young talent into the VHL. He came in with a paltry 31 TPE, but with time he began to show up more and more to practice. The season started on March 11th 2014, but Vlasis has been showing up to practices since February 11th 2014. The season has now ended on April 11th 2014. Thats 8 weeks, in 8 weeks Vlasis has gained 70 TPE (including this 1 point). 70/8 is 8.75 practice hours per week, which I think is a record for myself. I have never been more active in my life, I attribute this success for the interest and fun I'm having with the boys in Turku. In Season 37 Vlasis has played in 72 games, scoring 34 goals and adding 62 assists for 96 points. He also finished with a +19 and a team leading 154 blocked shots.

REIGN ADD SPUD, TAYLOR FOR PLAYOFF PUSH

Riga, Latvia – On April 6th, 2014, the Cologne Express officially announced that generational talent Kameron Taylor and all-star defenseman Malcom Spud were officially on the trading block. While rumors of these two players being moved date back to Season Thirty-Six, it wasn’t until this past Sunday that fans in Riga and other cities around the Victory Hockey League could really get their hopes up that their team could add these stars to their rosters. Social media was ablaze with prominent hockey pundits and bloggers alike posting all sorts of crazy rumors, ranging from mega trades involving Cologne and essentially every playoff team in the VHL, to rumblings of an early retirement announcement coming from Taylor. However, at 11:49AM EST (which is about 10:49 CST), the Riga Reign released the following press release which would change the course of their season.

“The Riga Reign have acquired center Kameron Taylor, winger Guido Schwarz Esq., and defenseman Malcom Spud from the Cologne Express in exchange for the S38 Riga 1st round pick, S39 Riga 1st round pick, and S39 Riga 2nd round pick. This trade will be completed at the end of Season Thirty-Seven.”

    Boom.

In the blink of an eye, the Riga Reign turned themselves from a rebuilding team just making an appearance in the playoffs into a legitimate contender in the European Conference. Riga’s roster already boasted a strong core of young forwards, featuring captain Brennan McQueen, center Robin Gow, and off-season acquisition Mikey Blade. The acquisitions of a potential hall of fame center and another well-rounded veteran winger allowed everyone to slide down a position on the depth chart to a role they most likely should be playing at this point in their careers. For example, while Robin Gow is an exciting young player with much of his career ahead of him, he should not be second in the league in minutes played on a team with Continental Cup aspirations. Taylor will now center a line with Mikey Blade and Schwarz Esq., while the famed McGow line, which dates back to the Season Thirty-Five Founder’s Cup winning Ottawa Lynx, will be reunited. While this group of forwards may not be the best in the VHL, they can now hold their own against the best of the VHL.

It is no stretch of the imagination to say that the achilles heel of the Reign this season has been its defense. While Slaeter Fjorsstrom is a blue chip prospect and Phil Villeneuve can be a solid defenseman in this league, neither one of them should be a team’s number one defenseman at this point in time. Similar to the forwards, Malcom Spud allows these two players to slide down into roles that put them in a better position to succeed. While Spud may not be destined for enshrinement after his career, he is still one of the best defensemen in the VHL. His presence rounds out a group of defensemen that can now be labeled as solid at worst.

Can Szatkowski Jr. lead the Riga Reign to the Cup?

The real wildcard for Riga going forward is goaltender Mike Szatkowski Jr. It’s been proven by the Season Thirty-Six HC Davos Dynamo and Season Thirty-Three Riga Reign that a top-flight goaltender is not necessary to capture the Continental Cup. Lennox Moher and Jehovah were both good, bordering on great goalies, but none were considered one of the top goalies in the league during the season they won it all. As a second year player in the VHL, Szatkowski Jr. is somewhere in that range. At this point in time, it’s safe to say that Mike may not be at level of either of these goalies, but he is not far off. If the Reign are to make some noise in the playoffs, Szatkowski Jr. will need to match the likes of Tukio and LeBeau and give his team a chance to win in each game. While the Reign may not be considered the favorite out of the European Conference, acquiring Taylor and Spud have made things much more interesting.

Context: 2.5/3 - Yukon is off to a great start this year. Seth, you really have to stop cutting people off when they talk. It was pretty noticeable in Awfulhomesick's podcast last week, and you do it a ton in this one as well. Have no idea what you expected me to do in Ottawa this season Seth. MacDonald is doing well, but we're not asking him to play top pairing minutes here like he was in Long Island. Orpik is a defenseman, Okposo is a winger. Not really sure what one has to do with the other. There was a ton of non-VHL related discussion, especially for a 28 minute podcast.

    Ottawa Makes a Move

Ottawa, Canada – Not much has gone right in Ottawa so far in Season 37. Although the team wasn’t expected to finish higher than 3rd in the North American Conference, few hockey pundits believed that the team would be as bad as they have been so far. With only 2 wins and 4 points to their name in 27 games played, the Lynx are 2nd to last in the entire VHLM. While 4 points is usually bad enough to land a team last in the league, the lowly Brampton Blades have done even worse than the Lynx. Although they’ve only played 26 games, they currently have 0 points. With the team performing this far below expectations, it’s no surprise that Ottawa has begun selling off its active players. The first skater to be moved was recent 2nd round pick Chris Raymond. The Lynx put out the following press release:

"The Ottawa Lynx have traded forward Chris Raymond and the S38 Yukon 2nd round pick to the Minot Gladiators for the S39 Minot 1st round pick and the S39 Yukon 2nd round pick. Chris was a professional both on and off the ice during his time in Ottawa. The Ottawa Lynx organization wishes him luck in Minot."
