Ace got a reaction from Tyler in Yukon Rushing to Start Season
The Yukon Rush have played five games to start their VHLM season. They’ve started strong, posting a record of 4-1-0 with 19 goals for and 13 goals against for a combined goal differential of +6. They’re enjoying a three game winning streak, and are looking to continue the positive momentum as they chase down the Minnesota Storm.

The Rush go as Brendan Plunkett goes, it seems. Plunkett, a Canadian winger, has posted an incredibly stat line of 5 goals and 5 assists in only 5 games, resulting in an impressing 2.0 points per game rate. Some would say this pace is unsustainable, but in the VHLM, anything can happen. Plunkett is the left winger on the Rush’s top line, alongside winger turned center Frans Eller and right winger Erik Draven.

Undrafted goaltender A Red Guy has proven to be of another planet. It’s no coincidence that his emergence as an elite VHLM goaltender coincides with the rumored Area 51 raids. More on that one later. A Red Guy has posted a 4-1 record, despite a sub .900 save percentage. His goals against average is adequate, however, with a respectable 2.57.

The man who should be getting all of the attention is stud defenseman Wolf Stansson Jr. The hulking brute of a man who stands 6’ 8” tall and weighs 250 pounds shrugs off any opposition who dares attempt to take the body. You simply cannot take away the puck from him, unless you’re wearing rocket skates. Stansson Jr. has collected 9 points in 5 games played, but has surprisingly not done much on the shots blocked or hits categories. He must be a possession monster out there in addition to being a literal monster.

Defenseman Andrej Petrovic seems to be the guy that is in the shadow for the blue line of the Rush. The mobile 6’ 1” defender has collected 5 points while leveraging a physical edge to his game, collecting 9 hits and 5 shots blocked. He’s quietly putting together a fantastic start to the season and provides that depth that is so crucial for the team to be successful.

Next up for the Yukon Rush is the Houston Bulls who have spun their tires and struggled to gain traction so far this season. The Bulls have a 1-2-2 record with a -2 goals differential. The Bulls’ leading scorer is blue liner Khalabib Stiopic, so the Rush need to ensure they can keep the Texas forwards quiet and try to contain the dynamic defenseman.

After the Bulls, the Rush will be heading to the opposite side of the continent and country to visit the Halifax 21st. Halifax is another middle of the pack team, with a record of 2-3 but a +1 goal differential. The 21st also have a high end blue liner with Luciano Valentino leading his club with 8 points in 5 games.

We will be back next week to analyze the week that happened and to highlight the players that have stepped up big for the Rush.

Ace reacted to .sniffuM in A Red Guy picks Yukon, eyes the VHL
After interest from many VHLM teams, A Red Guy ultimately landed on the Yukon Rush as his team.

The Rush were set to go into this season with Stanley Sawchuk as their goalie. At one point, Sawchuk was seen as the top goalie prospect among Season 68 draftees, but his drop off in practice attendance has led the team to quickly pounce on another young goalie. Early speculation was that the two would split starts to begin with for Yukon, but so far it has been A Red Guy who has taken all the starts.

Wearing a translating device around his neck, A Red Guy addressed his decision and his future goals in a press conference.

"Yukon has a roster that can win now," Guy said. "That appeals to me a lot. My dream is to go straight to the VHL after being drafted. Of the teams that reached out, I felt like this was my best opportunity to win in the short window that I will be in the VHLM."

When asked about the VHL, A Red Guy had this to say:

"When you look at VHL rosters right now, there are a lot of good established starters that aren't too old, and then the last draft had two first round goalies. Vancouver used a second rounder on a goalie recently as well. So in looking at it, my path to the VHL looks to be as a backup or splitting time with another young goalie, unless New York drafts me, as they're the team most in need of a franchise goalie prospect. If I do everything right, I hope I can end up on New York and have a free run at their franchise goaltender spot."

The Muffins agency has an extended history with the New York Americans franchise, with Tukka Reikkinen spending the latter half of his Hall of Fame career on the franchise and helping lead them to a Cup win, while E'Twaun Delicious, the agency's highest drafted player, spent his entire career as a second liner for the team.

With the memery and Facebook.com shenanigans regarding an invasion of Area 51, there’s been word that a jailbreak has occurred from deep within the heavily guarded secure government facility within the desert of Nevada. A girthy red being was caught on a blurry cell phone video running and vaulting over the tall, barbed wire fences.

“Who was that? What was that?” inebriated onlookers shouted, clearly bewildered by what they saw. In a cloud of dust and sand, the being instantaneously came to a complete stop. “I’M A RED GUY!” it exclaimed. Its skin wasn’t truly red, but translucent, with its inner organs and blood movement free to view through the window that was its epidermis. It continued its escape with ease, accelerating to what looked like to speed of a cheetah with just two strides.

A chopper flew overhead. One of the tents outside of the security permiter buzzed with radio static – “Alert the National Guard and get them to Alaska. Call the Canadian embassy. He’s going to be headed North.”

"We’re here with VHLM prospect Frans Eller. Eller spent the very last part of last season with the Houston Bulls, managed by FrostBeard. Eller is a well rounded two way winger that enjoys firing the puck into the back of the net. Eller – where are you hoping to go?"

“Well, I have heard that I am now one of the top five players on most scout’s draft boards. I don’t know who they’re comparing me with, but I do know that whomever picks me will absolutely not regret it. I will work my ass off for you and your franchise and I will help you be productive on a daily basis.”

“That’s great. Frans, how would you describe your play out there?”

“I know where to be on the ice to make the right play happen. If my linemate turns it over, I will scramble back to cut off passing lanes and to force the transition wide. I have a good stick that can disrupt the play and turn the puck back the other way. I’d say an offensively skilled two-way winger.”

“Is there any destination in particular that you’d really be fond of going to?”

“My agent and I have had discussions with a few franchises. I am probably most keen on my interaction with the Philadelphia Reapers front office. They had a certain swagger about themselves. I think my attitude about the sport of hockey, how it’s meant to be played and how the locker room dynamics should be align extremely well with what I’ve seen so far there. They’ve even invited me to tour their locker room and training facilities, and compared to what I have seen in Denmark and in other hockey clubs that I have been affiliated with, I am tremendously impressed. I’d love to be selected by the Reapers – I mean come on, they’re the Reapers! Spooky!”

“Well, it certainly seems that you have a favorite! Are there any other spots you’d be happy to land at?”

“I had a quik chat with the Minnesota management team. It’s been more subdued, but it seems like I could fit in there. FrostBeard has always been good to me with Houston, but the culture there seems to have accepted losing as commonplace and I don’t really want to accept a culture of failure. Perhaps that doesn’t carry over to next season? I don’t know. In the grand scheme of things, this is a draft, not a free agency experience. I’ll get drafted anywhere, play anywhere, lead anywhere and win anywhere.”

“Well said. Are there any of your fellow prospects that you hope to land with if possible?”

“Yes, I’d love to play with Condor Adrienne. He is a defenseman, fellow European. I enjoy my time with him on the ice – we started training together the week I announced my intention to come over to the VHLM instead of the SHL Juniors draft. Unfortunately, Condor is just above me in skills for the draft class and it’ll be difficult for a team to get both him and I. I can hope though!”

“Thanks for your time, Frans, and enjoy tomorrow’s VHLM Draft!”

Ace got a reaction from Cornholio in UNDERCOVER - Meeting between Frans Eller and Philadelphia Reapers
Frans Eller was seen with Philadelphia Reapers GM sitting down at a local coffee shop in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania this morning. A fan in the shop sat in the booth next to them to eavesdrop on the discussion. He took the following photo to validate his claims and posted it on social media site, Twitter.

“So, this is where the cheesesteaks are made?”

“No Frans, this is a coffee shop. They make coffee here.”

“Ah, Philadelphia Coffee. You use the Philadelphia Cream Cheese in coffee, ya?”

“No, just regular cream and sugar, or black, or just sugar.

“Oh. So it’s not, special, like Philadelphia Cream?”

“Frans, do you want to play for the Reapers or are you just here as a tourist visit for all the stereotypical Philadelphia things?”

“Oh, of course I want to play here with the Reapers. Where do the Eagles play?”

It seems that the Reapers had a certain theme or topic in mind when discussing Philadelphia with Frans, but it quickly went off the rails. We’ll keep our ears to the ground on how this progresses.

Welcome to S66 Theme Week! In this “Theme Week” point task, we’re going to be taking a look at the teams in the VHLM Playoffs in an entirely non-analytical manner. We’re going to compare the teams in the playoffs and determine who will advance past the first round and make a large step towards the VHLM’s Founders Cup.

First off, we have the 1st seeded Philadelphia Reapers vs the Minnesota Storm. Let’s dive into this matchup. A Reaper is widely regarded as a spectral being that represents death, and one that literally is the deciding factor in which a life can be ended. The Minnesota Storm is a little less eerie. Obviously a storm can be something as significant as a category 5 tornado, but Minnesota is rarely susceptible to having a storm of that magnitude. Most likely we’re just looking at torrential rains and some minor flooding. I give the edge to death incarnate, the Philadelphia Reapers, in a 5 game series. Don’t mess with death itself. You can’t win.

The second matchup of the first round is the Halifax 21st against the San Diego Marlins. The 21st, as I’ve been informed, has something to do with the welcoming of immigrants to Canada, similar to the USA’s Ellis Island. How Patriotic! Would a large fish with a sword-like appendage on its face prevail? I suppose that the 21st could be interpreted as a large number of people, and based on some rough estimates, there’s far more people in this world than Marlins. If the battle was in the water, with the right equipment, these patriotic Canadians would be in for quite a battle, but they’d ultimately prevail over these large fish in 6 games. Sushi, anyone? I’m in.

Our third series is the Ottawa Lynx vs the Mississauga Hounds. A Canadian lynx can reach anywhere from 40 to 66 pounds at maturity. A Bloodhound (a random hound example) is 80-110 pounds at maturity. Due to simple weight comparisons, I’d say that the Mississauga Hounds have the edge in a tight series. I’d think that the Ottawa Lynx are more quik and agile, but the Hounds’ heavy game will take a toll against the Lynx in a seven game series. Mississauga Hounds are victorious against the Ottawa Lynx in 7. Dogs vs Cats! It’s just like that movie I saw forever ago.

The Saskatoon Wild host the Mexico City Kings in the final first round matchup. A King is nothing without their loyal advisors and subjects, and if there were multiple Kings out in the Wild, without anyone to assist them, they will easily falter. I doubt these Kings will unite and work together either, they won’t be able to put their petty feuds aside or end their squabbling over manners of state. The Wild will envelop them and easily dispatch them in a sweep. Just imagine – 21 crowned men in the woods surrounded by bears, wolves and various other angry critters. How Wild!

Stay tuned for Round 2 – it seems like a good capped point task for next week.

Ace got a reaction from NotAVHLM-GM in Frans Eller’s VHLM Hotel Reviews
Hi, I’m Frans Eller, elite prospect that is declared for the upcoming VHLM draft. I’m here to provide you with my review of hotels in VHLM cities! First off, as I noted in my VHL.com article, I didn’t live in Houston long enough to get a place. So, naturally, I’ve been staying in a Hilton Hampton Inn right here in Houston! The room is nice enough, but you can tell the building itself is not new whatsoever. I am pretty sure I heard the elevator groaning in discomfort when I asked it to take me up to my floor. All in all, the room was relatively clean, the staff was friendly, and I enjoyed the continental breakfast. I give Houston’s Hampton Inn a 3.7 out of 5 stars.

So wait a second, we have to actually go to the Yukon? How do they fill an arena in there? *CORRECTION – THEY DON’T*. I got to my hotel, the Yukon Motel with a flashing VACANCY sign on the street. I had to wrestle three full grown rats for my bed when I walked in. The log cabin next door served pancakes though, so that was a plus. The water wasn’t working in my room. I can’t really fairly analyze this because I didn’t realize that the Yukon Territory was its own sovereign nation and a 3rd World Country at that. I’ll have to defer my analysis to the locals as I never want to return to this way of life again. If I had a gun pointed at me, I’d have to say 2 out of 5 stars.

Mexico City? We’re going to Mexico City? After being in the Yukon? I don’t know what’s up with the logistics in this league, but sign me the fuck up. I could do a mountain of blow in Mexico City. It’s gonna look like Whistler in my room without the chairlifts. I, as a self-respecting Hilton man, stayed at the Doubletree by Hilton in Mexico City. I was ecstatic, this place has a 4.5 out of 5 star review on Google. I walked in, and there was not a member of a Drug Cartel there to walk me to my room. How disappointing. It certainly was better than the Yukon though! Did you know they spoke Spanish in Mexico City? I thought that was just in New Mexico and Texas. You learn something new every day, I suppose! The room was fantastic, the blow was great, 5 out of 5 star experience from Frans. I want to play on the road in Mexico City every game.

Wait, now I we have to go to Minnesota? Minnesota is only worth visiting in the summer. In the winter it’s a gross, desolate cold wasteland. In the summer? Man, the lakes are awesome. I love it there, my uncle took me to see the World Cup of Hockey when I was 12. Denmark got smoked, it sucked. The Hilton Minneapolis! What a nice hotel. The pillows were especially soft and caressed my face like my ex from four years ago. Yeah, we were 15, what about it? Anyways, loved this place. It was nicer than actually going outside by far. I give the Minneapolis Hilton a 4.2 out of 5 stars.

    To be continued...

Ace got a reaction from Shaka in Frans Eller’s VHLM Hotel Reviews
