    Trades:
    S66: 7
    S67: 19
    S68: 7
    S69: 4
    S70: 17
    S71: 6
    S72: 7 (So far)
    Total: 67 Trades (11.17/season)

I had planned to total the players in and players our as well as picks in and picks out before I got to the number of total trades and had to say fuck that shit.

Is there a correlation to me making massive moves and winning? Let’s see:
S67: 53-14-5 (3rd place), 4 individual awards, GMoTY, Founders Cup finalists.
    S68: 42-20-10 (3rd place), 1 individual award.
    S69: 21-44-7 (9th place), 1 individual award.
S70: 61-8-3 (1st place), 2 individual awards, GMoTY, Founders Cup Champions
    S71: 53-17-2 (3rd place), 1 individual award.

S67 and S70 were our best for sure; curiously that’s when we had 19 and 17 trades respectively. Does this mean trading means your team will do better and win more, no. You do need a plan and the ability to find ways around hardships your team may be having.

It would be hard to argue that I’ve had anything but a great tenure in Minnesota. I would’ve like another cup but 4/5 seasons finishing in the top 3 in a league who’s winning cycles tend to be 1 season on and 1 off is nothing short of great.
Fun fact, I’ve only had two AGM’s over my year long tenure. Hiring @DMaximus in S66 and then losing him after S67 to go GM Philadelphia. @Mr_Hatter has been my helper ever since. I do have to give both credit where it’s due, Dmaximus was a help while I got my bearings early on and including that S67 cup run, so thank you for your time in Minnesota.

Hatter, you had a bigger impact than I could have expected when I hired you all those seasons ago. You are as much a part of the Minnesota Storm image as I am and are a huge key as to why we were successful and why our locker room atmosphere was often cheery even when quiet.

Thank you to all the GM’s of the past and present VHLM. You guys put up with my pestering for trades and talking and it helped me thrive. As well without you guys to compete against there would be a distinct lack of enjoyment and fun day in and day out when you chirp each other.

Lastly a thank you to @Banackock and @diamond_ace, you guys took a risk on a first generation player not even through half of his first season. I would like to think I’ve done my best to pay you guys back for that trust. You guys put up with a ton of shit and have helped the VHLM thrive over your tenure and for that I applaud you.

Cheers VHLM, it has been a blast!

And we are back! 8 games into the season, Saskatoon is the only team that has yet to lose in regulation. Our core is still going strong, and our draft class this offseason was crazy.

    S71 Draftees TPE Progression
    3.01 - C Cassius Gardner (89 TPE at the Draft, 135 TPE now) @jhatty8
    3.06 - D Bobby Wyman (58 TPE at the Draft, 167 TPE now) @Lefty_S
3.11 - RW Adam Frence (61 TPE at the Draft, 167 TPE now) @Kachur IA
    4.05 - D Erik Hjalmarsson (52 TPE at the Draft, 80 TPE now) @Erik
4.11 - LW Kazimir Komarov (109 TPE at the Draft, 218 TPE now) @Gooningitup
5.03 - LW Gino Alkamino (80 TPE at the Draft, 139 TPE now) @ChaceT

Our first S71 draftee has passed the 200-TPE mark this offseason, with Komarov now sporting an impressive 218-TPE build. I expect all of Wyman, Gardner, Alkamino to at least come close to the 200 mark by the playoffs, while Hjalmarsson is still providing good depth on the blueline. Frence has sadly gone inactive, so he has been banished to the bottom of the lineup. Overall, despite not going on the stand to select before the 23rd pick that year, our S71 draft class provides us with a full forward line and a full defensive pair that is top 6-caliber, giving us only so many spots to fill in this offseason's draft.

    S72 Draft Class
    1.04 - C Lucas Brandt (236 TPE at the Draft) @twists
    1.05 - D Tyler Walker (194 TPE at the Draft) @Advantage
1.10 - RW Keith Krestanovich (146 TPE at the Draft) @Boragina
2.03 - RW Dan Baillie Jr (134 TPE at the Draft) @wcats
    2.09 - G Grekkark Gyrfalcon (136 TPE at the Draft) @Sharkstrong
    4.05 - G Cal Conway (99 TPE at the Draft) @Shaka
4.09 - LW Elijah Flynn (73 TPE at the Draft) @Underclass_Hero
5.04 - LW Jared Willis (78 TPE at the Draft) @Jared Willis

This massive class, along with FA acquisition D King Kruul @LefLop, fills every single hole we had in the lineup. Counting Frence (which I intend to replace whenever there's a center waiver that accepts to come play on my 3rd line), we now have 9 forwards, 4 defensemen and 2 goaltenders. Not only does this class makes us one of the best teams in the league this season, it possibly gives us, once again, a good core for next season. We even managed to snag a backup goalie that was fine staying with us in a more limited role this season, if it meant giving us a shot at being competitive two seasons in a row (thanks Shaka)! I sincerely think we have what it takes to win this season without being spending too much at the trade deadline, which would give us a great team for 2 seasons in a row, a rare feat in the VHLM these days.

    Good season everyone!

This is annoyingly where my brain is at. I much preferred when everything was on the forum and it felt like you could actually have a conversation. Discord moves too quickly and buries everything so there’s no kind of permanence. Makes it impossible to catch up with anything that you missed.

I posted two issues with AGM’s a page or two back and I stand by them. I’m not trying to be harsh, I’m just trying to be realistic. It’s a role the league has no real control over and dictating what they must do on a weekly basis kinda goes against the whole point of what they are. That’s why we look at them as a learning experience, not a job.

They can 100% be taught how to do GM things without actually doing it all for the GM and without being paid for it. Take @Shaka for example. He signed up for an AGM spot because he wants to GM some day. Didn’t even know the pay splitting was a thing and didn’t care because that’s not his objective, his objective is to learn. I’m sure there are others by the way, he’s just the first that came to mind.

We’re accepting they are a thing but I see no reason to formalize it into a role that can be too easily abused. They are a learning experience and should be treated as such.

I think that's pretty much what the argument comes down to. As an internship where you're main "job" is being active, I don't have an issue with GMs saying Member X is their AGM, in fact I'd encourage it. It's when you start going down the messy road of giving pay/splitting pay that my issue comes into play. An AGM shouldn't be doing enough work to garner pay, and I stick by the fact that if they are, the GM should be fired.

Yesterday, I saw a conversation regarding the value of Assistant GM's, specifically in the VHLM. While many of the replies were in support of assistants, a few were not. A few of the replies made comments like "VHL AGMs are fairly pointless" and " the AGM role serves one purpose and one purpose only: to learn from the GM so that you can one day step into an official GM role." I find it interesting how different everyone's opinion is on the roles, value and usage of an Assistant GM and it seems as good a reason as any to get my 2 TPE in today.

In my experience, the team's with the highest culture have the highest success rate. At the Professional level, the sheer TPE count of a team comes more into play. At the development level, it couldn't be any more important. In every locker room I have ran, I've shared in one iteration or another, this wall of text:

“Activity breeds updates. Updates improve players. Players win championships. Thus, activity wins championships. All you have to do, all we have to do, is bleed [Insert Team Colors] and the rest will take care of itself. Show up, shoot the shit in this locker room, watch the games, talk builds, write your PT's, do your graphics, have a great time and if you do all of that, success comes naturally. Winning is a byproduct of activity. So there are two golden rules in [Insert City]. Love this organization and love this league.”

An Assistant GM isn't necessary from a functionality standpoint, but I don't see why anyone wouldn't want a second leader in the clubhouse to raise activity, keep players engaged and drive retention. My theory is the more the merrier. Team Captains, Assistant GMs, Alumni. Anyone and everyone who can help our locker room stay engaging and attentive is who I want on my team. I don't care what I call them, because in the end of the day, the activity they drive in my locker room drives the activity in their update threads and update threads ultimately win championships.
