Hello there! As you have probably noticed, we in VSN have been working hard to provide quality content and plenty of it for all you lovely people in VHL. That being said, VSN is going to be short of 2 writers this upcoming Off-season and next season as both @Matt_O and @VanCanWin are taking a step back from VSN. I would like to thank both of these brilliant writers as their contribution to our success was unparalleled. Truly, thanks for being a part of the team that made VSN what it is.

With that said, we are hiring 2 writers for positions - Writer on League history (Continuing work started by Matt_O) and a writer that would cover VHL Weekly Review (Van's posts he created and headlined). Be sure to write within your post what would you like to write about (It doesn't have to be positions listed above as we can always move around and create new content)

For now, Good luck to everyone and I hope that 2020 will bring a lot of happiness in your household and you will enjoy every moment of it!

Hiring process will be completed on 3rd of January so hurry up and put you application in!

After having interviewed everyone for a bit and getting the time to know them a bit more, this process has been very hard and not one I enjoyed tbh. So many deserving people applied and I think regardless of this outcome you all deserve and will do great in roles you’ll be given.

That being said @Alex Bridge has been working with me already as a scout and has put in work to showcase to me that he is ready to learn, eager to learn and excited for the opportunity.

I am pleased to announce he will be the 2nd ever AGM of the San Diego Marlins.

Again, to everyone else that applied please do not feel discouraged, your interviews have not gone unnoticed and we are very happy that we got so many amazing candidates applying.

Halifax Reaches Semi-Finals Behind Hextall's Shutout

HALIFAX - The final horn sounded, Jaxx Hextall pumped his glove hand into the air and leapt for joy. As equipment flew into the air throughout the ice and from the Halifax bench, the sellout crowd roared in delight, their hometown 21st having defeated the Philadelphia Reapers 1-0 courtesy of Anton Edvin's goal and Hextall's shutout. The rest of the team poured over the bench in jubilation, with their victory in Game Six clinching the series victory 4-2 and punching their ticket to the Semi-Finals against the Saskatoon Wild.

"I'm struggling to find the words," said an elated Hextall following the game. "We always believed in ourselves, in each other. But to have done it, to move on... it's still an absolutely euphoric feeling."

On a night in which Ben Storm and the Halifax offense couldn't generate the offensive production that got them this far, Jaxx Hextall proved to be the pivotal weapon for the 21st. Outshot by Philadelphia 24-21, Hextall responded by stopping all 24 shots he faced. His counterpart, Isak Sjostrom, was also nearly perfect, but an Anton Edvin shot eluded him, the only goal of the game.

Halifax now travels to Saskatoon to face the Wild in the Semi-Finals, who were far and away the best team in the regular season. Only suffering four losses all season, Saskatoon made quick work of the Yukon Rush with a first round sweep. If they hope to hand the Wild four more losses to advance to the Founder's Cup Finals, the 21st will need to be at their absolute best in this series.

Elmebeck reacted to Viper in VHLM Playoffs Round One
VHLM PLAYOFFS ROUND 1 - by Kristopher McDagg AKA Viperxhawks19

Starting off with a 7-0 win for Saskatoon over Yukon. That started the playoffs, and it'll end it, too. The VHLM playoffs is a time where players can show their true playoff potential. Teams bleed and shoot, other bleed and choke. No mater what, you're dedicated. Saskatoon swept Yukon in round one. Then, Mississauga went on to sweep Ottawa in an action packed series. Moving on, we have San Diego getting a 1-0 series lead. Mexico City fights back to make it 1-1, 2-1, 3-1 , and ending it in game 5. Finally, not a sweep haha! Then Halifax and Philadelphia face off in a compelling series! Lots of back and forth battling and blood shed! In the end, Halifax went on to win the series. Now they have to face Saskatoon (I predict a sweeeeep). At the time of this article, 2nd round has started. I can only read player stats from 1st AND 2nd round, so yeah. David OQuinn from Saskatoon as a mouth watering 13 points in 6 games! Over a 2 PPG pace. Ondrej Ohradka and Edwin THE Encarnation follow closely behind with 12 points in 6 games. Playoff favorite: obviously Saskatoon. I may be bias, but I really believe Saskatoon will win. Saskatoon is just strong and fierce. The first round just showed everyone what the teams can do. It was a nice first round, and and even wilder second round, so I predict, and I believe everyone in the VHLM and VHL are excited to see the young talent. The VHLM playoffs are honestly more important for the VHL GM's because they can see who to draft/who they draftED and how they perform under pressure. The fact that we saw 2 sweeps and 2 action packed series in the FIRST ROUND ALONE is insane! The only thing that would have been better was a game 7, too! The world of hockey playoffs is an insane realm where people don't die. The old vets, don't die. The young guns, stride. Everything is insane. The wildness of this first round is insane because of the goalies. They don't get enough respect in the playoffs, from what I've seen. If they put up a great series and win a bunch, great! If they get swept, 'least they put up a great series to watch! Unless they were just truly awful, I think the playoff success comes from them! The goalies and players combine, though, is game changing. The fact that they can stand on top of their heads while juggling 3 pounds of pucks along with a sword of fire is insane. That is the amount of talent it requires to play like they do. One thing is for sure, though. The players and teams all put in effort, and do what they have to do. The fortunate ones think of something, and accomplish it. One might say, The Founders Cup.

A lot of people had predicted it would be an easier win for Seattle, but New York played brilliantly for six games and brought the series to overtime in game seven. We're meeting up with their defenceman Fredrik Elmebeck who had both a good season and playoff, though invisible in game seven.

Victory Associated Press International Division: How do you feel?

Fredrik Elmebeck: Good... and a bit deflated. I'm proud we did so well, obviously we were only one goal from going on to the next round, so it's mixed feelings.

VAPID: We were surprised to see this was your first playoff, you were a name thrown around from the middle of your first season and I guess I just assumed you had more playoff experience.

Elmebeck: Well, when I started in Houston we were in a heavy rebuild and so I joined just the season before they dominated VHLM and won the cup, and S68 with New York was also the start of a rebuild. But yeah, I take a lot with me from this series, and if nothing else that New York will be a contender in future seasons from now on.

VAPID: New York had a bad start to the season.

Elmebeck: Yeah, but I think everyone but one kind of knew we would work through it and persevere; and I think we did that with our pickup in the regular season, and now just barely losing in OT. Great things await in the future.

    VAPID: Plans now?

Elmebeck: Chopping wood. It's a bit like golf, but useful.

Elmebeck reacted to SlapshotWrangler in Grabbing the brooms against the Yukon Rush - Saskatoon Sweep
SASKATOON - The playoffs started quite a while ago and the Saskatoon Wild have lived up to expectations so far. The number one team in the Victory Hockey League Minors went against the 8th place Yukon Rush. The first game was a big 7-0 win for the Wild, with goals coming courtesy of Dagmar Havlova (who scored 2), Mikko Lahtinen, Gary Tarantino, David OQuinn, Kristopher McDagg, and Edu Stava. This was young goaltender's Jacques Lafontaine first shutout in the Victory Hockey Leagye Minors playoffs.

The next game was 6-1 victory for the Wild. Killy Foilen and Edu Stava both scored 2 goals this game, both of them being the top two stars of the game. Gary Tarantino and Elliot Porter also scored for the Wild. The first Rush goal of this series was scored by Matvei Albertenko.
In the next game, the Saskatoon Wild were dominant in the first period, getting 5 of their 7 goals there. Those 7 goals consisted of Damien Wolfe's hat trick, as well as goals by Mikko Lahtinen, Edwin THE Encarnacion, Danny DeYeeto, and Jesse Nyman. The final score was 7-3. It turns out that game would be the closest the Rush would get to beating the Wild in a game.

It was a 3-0 series lead for the Wild, all they needed to do was win this last game in order to sweep the Yukon Rush. And win they did. The Saskatoon Wild scored 10 goals, courtesy of Lahtinen, who got a hat trick, Jesse Nyman and Ondrej Ohdraka, who both got 2 goals for the Wild, as well as Killy Foilen, Dagmar Havlova, and Edwin THE Encarnacion. It was a 10-1 win as Chad Magnum was the lone goal scorer for the Yukon Rush. This win completed a first round sweep by the Wild.

When asked about how they got the sweep, Jacques Lafontaine responded saying, "The key to our success was continual pressure. Once we knocked them down with that big first win, we didn't let them get back up. We never let them crawl back into the game, which was crucial to our dominance. We worked well as a team, playing as one big unit. Defensively, we were in shutdown mode. I played well and stopped the puck when I needed to. All we have to do for our next game is to keep our momentum going, to keep the pressure on. I mean, glass will break with enough pressure. We just gotta keep on pushing until we win it all. If I remember correctly, the Halifax 21st are up against us next. They are a pretty good team so we just gotta hold on and stay strong against them. We know that we can beat them so we are working hard to get better and improve our game."

The Halifax 21st were fifth place by the end of the Regular Season. They were against the Philadelphia Reapers for their first round of these playoffs, winning the series 4-2 and moving on to the second round.

Will the 21st be able to stop the powerhouse that is the Saskatoon Wild or will they be trampled? The question will be answered as the Halifax 21st will take on the Wild soon. Let's see if Saskatoon can keep this historic season going.

    1. Tomorrow we play an elimination game against Seattle, with Seattle being on the ropes. What’s the game plan?
Our game plan should be to not go to OT. We're 3-0 in regulation and 0-2 in OT, so I'll take a nice 3-0 win without having to deal with stress, please.

    2. Any predictions for tomorrow?
I predict a fun game, where both teams try their hardest, and nothing happens that predicting it would result in me jinxing the team.

    4. Who’s been the more dangerous Esso, Keven Foreskin or Joel Ylonen?
I'm going GM Esso. Given LeGrande, I'm still not putting it out of the realm of possibility that A Red Guy will be changing jerseys at the second intermission of Game 6.

    5. Bana has been seen rioting in the streets of Seattle after the latest loss to the Americans. Does this affect your psyche at all?
To be honest, I'd kind of like to see this. What does a one person riot look like anyway? Just one person trying to push a car while everyone else looked at him worried?

    7. Who has grown the best playoff beard so far?
I don't like to brag, but my Hitler-esque mustache and my patchy 21 year old beard looks rather dashing, if I do say so myself.

    10. How do you feel about the current playoff format?
I do think too many teams make the playoffs, honestly. I wouldn't mind three teams from each conference, with the best record getting a bye. That's the old system, and I think it worked just fine.
  23. Cheers
