My rationale has always been that first gens come first, recreates come second. When recreates join at the TDL, yes a lot of the season had passed and that’s the point. The first gens have already created a team culture, a leadership group, and an identity that is theirs  and not mine. When I’m drafted 5th overall to an M team, that becomes my team, I become the focus because I’m a 200 TPE player by day 5. I get voted C or A because I’m the star player. But, the other recreates and I don’t really care about that.
 
It’s so much more special for a first gen to take on that role. They get to be drafted in the top 5. They get to mentor the new recreates on how they do things on this team. They get to be the core group of the team. They get to be meaningful parts of something special, which matters because they probably won’t get that feeling in the VHL/E. 
 
Make the VHLM a first gen league where new members can take pride and ownership of their team and league.

I was torn on how I should handle donations this year. Watching British Columbia struggle with the droughts, fires, rain and floods was extremely difficult. There’s also many other good causes to donate to and of course, you’d like to help them all. This year I’ve chosen one that has hit home for me and many in this league! 
 
My girlfriend had a strange feeling, they found a mass, was eventually diagnosed with Diffuse Large B Cell Lymphoma in 2020, completed Chemotherapy with her final round being on Halloween of 2020 and has done check ups since! It was her 1 year appointment today since being given the green light and all is still good.
 
I clicked out of the page but can provide receipts, as well as a couple pics of my $50 donation to the Alberta Cancer Foundation - which directly allowed me to send the money to the Cross Cancer Institute where my girlfriend received her care.

Yeah I think this isn't necessarily a case of fixing a problem, but compromising that the current format leaves a lot of the award voting information out of the hands of the league. They see the ballots and the award presentation but that is all. It's important to contextualize that just because this isn't a problem that doesn't need fixing, that doesn't mean that given the leagues overall size and member base now, a little transparency for those who simply do not know the inner processes could actually help everyone in understanding how the league works better. 
 
The key for me is to make sure the emphasis is about the why a vote was chosen, and not witch hunting "members who have questionable votes." I've seen that brought up a lot, but in the BoG's history we have only had a few instances of this occuring and the members were yeeted. Go ask Eagles!  For real though, any member of the Bog internally should feel comfortable enough if they see what they consider a bias to question it. That has always been the case, award voting and among the discussions here. I hope that was understood on the way in. 
 
The other thing I'll say too; in the mindset of the league shifting and changing with a larger less familiar user pool. I see a lot of us league boomers (I do it too) questioning the faith of members who speculate or sometimes over speculate on the nature of how the league is run. It creates the back and forth battling of memes and views of conspiracy theories or as Al was talking in his post the way sometimes the BoG/Staff can get viewed. While I'm not saying those narrow minded viewpoints are correct, we fuel them by closing our doors and "sticking the way the ways that brought us to the dance" with the league. We aren't 50 active members anymore. While we do want to avoid information overload, and pouring the gasoline on the flames of drama, examining our traditional even information processes sometimes can help bridge the gap to make it a smoother transition for members to get how things work. Anyway that said; as seems to be the consensus members shouldn't feel obligated or forced to share their votes, but we should be uncovering a bit of the veil on the process of awards, the considerations, what it even means to be on the ballot. That sort of thing.

A quick glance at the Season Schedule will show you that Theme Week is supposed to be coming up soon, but let's scrap that and do Theme Month. We've got our 12 Days of Christmas and Holiday Charity Auction, plus lots of other fun events coming up.
 
This year, we've chosen The Red Cross Canada / USA as our league-supported charity. As always, you are free to donate your funds to any registered charity anywhere in the world and count it towards the auction and our total numbers. 100% of the money raised by the league will be donated to the two organizations, and the VHL will not take any cut.
 
In addition to the Charity Auction, we will also kick off our Donation Drive and 12 Days of Christmas. How will it all work? Essentially the same as last year, but here are the exact details for each portion of our holiday season for 2021:
 
Charity Drive: December 9th - 19th
Starting right now, members can begin donating. Whether you do so through the league, by donating HERE, privately to either organization, or any charitable foundation of your choosing (receipt proof required for donations made outside the league), it will all count towards the overall contribution from the league.
 
From that overall contribution, the league will match donations up to $500 CAD, and add that to the donations through the league, splitting the total contribution (money donated through the league + the league contribution) equally to both organizations.
 
Please post all confirmations of donation, including Paypals through the league, auction wins, and private donations to THIS THREAD. Any donation of $5 CAD, or more, will result in an automatic personal reward of 2 Uncapped TPE + a Full Free Week (12 Capped TPE), as well as an entry to each of the first 3 tiers of the 12 Days of Christmas Raffle.
 
New this season as well we will be accepting blood donations in the charity drive. Blood is in high demand all year round, but especially at this time. Lots of us type a lot of words on here, but @der meister puts us all to shame. This accomplished author has offered to let you name a character in an upcoming short story. Nothing crass or juvenile, which is fine because the VHL is known for being classy and mature.

Are you volunteering for tribute?

I thought I would try and explain some things here. After the trade deadline you see many recreates so that would be some of the "teachers" from the older members. Also the job of a VHLM GM/AGM is to help the new members figure out the league. By that logic the AGM/GM should be there to help them figure out the league. You would see recreates in the league. Just not recreates at capped 200 TPE or near it. You would see a more balanced league. I see you're thought on the frat like idea, but you have to see it from another point of view. These players will play with recreates it just gives the new players time to figure out the league before the overwhelming horde of recreates show up after the trade deadline. It also will give new members more time on ice to see their stats go up. I do want to hear more of this argument because I am fascinated by your argument.

Mostly unrelated, but I just realized something...
 
Remember a while ago when I brought up my idea of putting waiver offers on the portal and a few people (hi @Victor) really liked it but then we all forgot about it? This unintentionally provides great support for it--with a more or less even distribution of who wants what (and, in fact, a slight bias away from the top teams), there wouldn't be any concerns with everyone going for the same type of team. It would really help evening out the rosters, and now that isn't just me saying so because I want it to work!
