We’re in the middle of S73 and it’s time for a team review. I took some time to write this because this is my first time reviewing a team so please bear with me. Thanks to @Plate for the awesome idea. This article will include trades, signings, picks and even a few player reviews.

Trades: Well, I intended to write this during the start of the season but found it hard to evaluate the situation. So, we’ll start with a trade review. Firstly, I will look at the Arthur Dayne @Infernal trade at the start of the season. The trade was between Mexico City and Ottawa. Ottawa gave up 2 picks, a S74 2nd round and a S75 1st round to get Arthur. So far, he has not disappointed. Arthur has put up 46 points and a +19 rating so far. If you think this trade is a bust, you are nuts.
Moving on with some mock trades. First up is Keno Wolf. Wolf is a consistent earner in the league with 103 tpe. Wolf has his scoring, skating and defence at 70 now but hasn’t showed much potential here. This could be since he has less than a minute of game time. DoktorFunk could send him over to a team that needs to improve their scoring for a 2nd or 3rd round pick.

Signings: Ottawa hasn’t signed any free agents yet this season. During the start of the season, there were many new players joining the vhl and many teams took the opportunity to add some depth to their lineup. I do feel that Ottawa should take the chance now with the affiliation and sign some active players. That could add some depth to their already killer lines. This situation is also similar in terms of goalie depth. Ottawa could look to sign a backup goalie that could play a couple of games for them to get some experience.

Picks: Ottawa has one first round pick in S74 that originally belong to Saskatoon. Ottawa also has two 5th, two 6th and one 7th round pick. Ottawa doesn’t have much to work with here. Trading away their 1st round pick is definitely unwise. However, I believe that Ottawa should obtain more depth in front, but it will force Ottawa to give away too much for an active player. Looking at S75, Ottawa has zero picks in the 1st and 2nd round. Ottawa’s has a short-term goal and its to win the Founder’s Cup. Should Ottawa focus on getting picks for S75? I think it’s still too early to tell.

    Player review:
Kevin Sterk @TenZi: Tenzi is consistently claiming practice facility. Kevin will slowly but surely improve and produce but I don’t see it happening anytime soon. However surely by the end of this season, he will be ready to go.

Keno Wolf @aCrypticPancake: Wolf is earning consistently is rather big amounts per week. Wolf hasn’t played much minutes with Ottawa. In fact, he plays 40+ second games all the time.

Joromir Jogr @Temppi: Jogr often finds himself playing 0 minutes a game. Temppi is active too, claiming articles, welfare and practice but that was close to 1 month ago. I guess this explains a lot about his minutes. Jogr played 30 games for Ottawa last season, accumulating 34 points. In conclusion, he needs to be more active to get himself some more game time and with more game time, he will eventually start to rack up points.

Now on to something more positive, shall we?

Zachariah Kisslinger @Kisslinger: Zachariah is a solid prospect in the vhl that doesn’t put up much points but is there when the team needs him. At 101 tpe, Zachariah is actively claiming practice facility and welfare. This makes him a solid prospect in the days to come. He also has a great personality in the locker room, often being the hype of the team.

Jiggly Gumballs @JigglyGumballs: Gumballs is having himself a season in Ottawa averaging more than 1 point per game now. At 201 tpe, he’s aiming to max out before the end of this season, and this is 100% possible. Gumballs is a great leader and LA will be happy to have him in the upcoming season. I believe gumballs will transition incredibly well and immediately start to make an impact.

Lexi Glass @AW13: This fellow draft class friend of mine is also having a blast in Ottawa. Lexi is having first line and powerplay minutes this season. This allows her to show off her amazing shot and skillset. Putting up 6 powerplay goals so far proves that she is lethal on the man advantage. AW has 169 tpe and it is possible for AW to max out to 250 this season.

Lee Xin @Blazzer: His rookie season is underway and so far, it has not disappointed. He averages less than 1 point per game so far, but he is ready to catch up and prove his worth. Being drafted in the 5th round has made Lee more determined to be better than his peers. Steadily earning tpe by putting out articles and media spots, Blazzer has reached 140 tpe in one month plus. That’s a stunning pace for a rookie.

Arthur Dayne: Once again we see Arthur’s name here. He has maxed out at 250 tpe but also has 23 tpe banked. Arthur has been a powerhouse on the ice for the Lynx and he has more to show right now. Arthur is 2nd place in points, goals and shorthanded goals. He is also 4th in hits taken. Please expect Arthur to keep at this pace, with more than 1 point per game. We could see him getting an award this season!

Ajay Krishna @Hooperorama: Being the only goalie for the team, is a lot of pressure but Ajay has been able to handle it. U could say he does even better under pressure! 23 games in and Ajay has 17 wins along with 5 shutouts under his belt. Although his save percentage is at 0.893, his GAA is 2nd in the league at 1.98. He also ties with Drew Minott @DreMin15 in points with 2 assists!

    Focus for the Lynx:
In S72, no player from Ottawa took home any awards. Maybe it’s time that Ottawa players get their named called in the upcoming VHLM awards? The awards show that players really have put in hard work and discipline to be the best in their class. The next focus is ultimately the Founders Cup. Ottawa has won cups in the past, proving that they have the ability to do so. I have absolute faith that Ottawa can do this with the guidance of DoktorFunk @DoktorFunk and DarkSpyro @DarkSpyro.

With that, I conclude this team review. I had a blast doing this so thanks to Plate again. Do feel free to leave some comments and I tried to make this article as neutral as possible. This is blazzer signing off, have a great week ahead guys!

    The Review

This season, unlike last, there are no massive sweeping structural changes underway for the VHLM. There are some rule changes and some clarifications, but these are more things that affect the retention side of the league than its competitiveness. Important and necessary changes, but not part of a review for the most part, except for one important aspect - the playoff rules have been clarified. The eight best teams will get in, regardless of conference, and the seeds will be protected only for the conference winners. This has a sort of ripple effect on retention as well, as the better teams are often filled with more active players.

Coincidentally, as it stands we actually have the best teams divided evenly across the conferences, and would not necessarily have needed the rule clarification as the standings sit right now. There are some teams in the running for the final spot that could change that, however, so it is still better to have the clarification in place whether it is needed or not.

So far, this season looks like a tale of two leagues, the top 7 teams proving to be particularly competitive among each other, and the bottom 5 fighting for a single playoff spot (or fighting against a single playoff spot, depending on your perspective). At the top of the standings right now, it appears as though last season’s expansion Miami Marauders did well to try to draft players they expected to be around for two seasons. Some of the picks looked like reaches at the time, but it seems to have worked out for them, especially on the back end where they’ve only conceded 30 goals in 23 games. The Houston Bulls, who spent the entirety of last season stuck in the basement, are now tied for 2nd and are very much the counter to Miami, with the most goals for, by a pretty wide margin - 122 goals to the next highest, which is 98. The Ottawa Lynx, Minnesota Storm, San Diego Marlins, Las Vegas Aces, and Saskatoon Wild all also look strong so far, and it remains to be seen which ones will pull away from the rest. Miami, Ottawa, Minnesota, and Houston seem to be just a slight tier above the other three, both in points and in goal difference. Still, it’s early, and the point difference is marginal at best, so none of the other three are out of it.

At the other end, there seems to be one clear cut bottom-feeder: the Halifax 21st with a paltry 3 points so far. Compounding their misery is that the team, on the whole, is only just marginally ahead of a goal per game, which is a rate more often used to describe the performances of individual players. The Yukon Rush find themselves toward the bottom of the table for another season, whereas the Mexico City Kings, Mississauga Hounds, and Philadelphia Reapers were a bit more fortunate last season and have only now dropped to this level. As it stands, the Reapers would get in, but outside of Halifax, any of these lower teams could find themselves sneaking in at 8th.

Maybe the ELO chart will sort things out a little:

The short answer is no, it really doesn’t. The one thing that’s most easily spotted on this chart, however, is that the top four really are in a different class than the 5-7 teams. The gap between 4 and 5 is almost the gap between 7 and 8, which isn’t really borne out in the points. Perhaps it goes to show that at this stage in the season, points don’t really tell the story. Another thing of note is that Houston, at least as of right now, is actually above Miami in ELO. The margins within the three groups are particularly tight, but Houston has been the top ELO team for a bit, and it will be interesting to see if the standings change to reflect the ELO, or if the ELO changes to reflect the standings. The middle group, even this early on, likely doesn’t have a ton to fight for except seeding - they’ll definitely be in the playoffs, but if the on-ice talent is reflected in the ELO, they’re also not likely to be threats once there. A few good signings could help, though.

As for the bottom teams, it seems that Mexico City is actually the one that should be in the final playoff spot, rather than Philadelphia. Additionally, Mississauga somehow falls below Halifax in ELO at this stage, despite the fact that Halifax looks like pretty clearly the worst team. It’s still early though, so there’s a lot to play out, and things could change in a few different ways yet.

    The Highlights

As it’s still very early in the season, we can’t really determine too much about how the final stats will end up, but at this stage, it appears as though our single most impressive performer is actually on defence. Riley Knight Gee has put up 54 points so far, leading the league in both points and assists. Plus 18 isn’t too far from the leaderboard either, and a P/20 (points per 20 minutes, so point production adjusted for time on the ice) of 1.60 is also top of the league.

Goalies are in a bit of a strange situation at the moment, with Bacon the standout. His GAA is a fantastic 1.31, which is somewhat a function of his team, but he’s also second in SV% with .918%. John Poremba is pulling a Jean Pierre Camus from last season, a great SV% (.922%) on a team where it’ll go largely unrecognized. The next two would probably be Ajay Krishna and Calvin Harvey, with decent performances in both major goalie stats.

Let’s take a little deeper look into a particular game that was interesting - a 10-5 win for Houston over Mexico City. A hat trick for Christian Mingle, two goals each for Jonas Stormsson and Aloe Dear, Houston put their foot on the gas and never let up. Shawty Nananana and Riley Knight Gee also each had a hat trick of assists, beaten out by Markus Schauer’s four, and Julian Nousiainen put up a goal and three assists. Unlike most games with a double-digit winning team, however, this game actually had some fight from the team that would eventually go on to lose. It’s hard to outscore 10 goals, but Jeremy Lin and Wolf Weiss each put up two of their own, and Mexico City showed some resilience in this game. Lin actually ended up with the first star in a loss, with two each of goals and assists. Ultimately, it hasn’t done much for them in the standings as they’re among the bottom tier of teams, but if this is the final playoff team, maybe a tighter than expected series will be on the cards. It’s still very early for playoff implications, though.

That’s all for this edition of Under 250: The VHLM Review. Thank you all for reading, and stay tuned next week for the inside scoop on all that’s going on in the league. Until next time!

Podrick Cast - Class of S69

    Position: C
    Birthplace: Berkshire, United Kingdom
    Height: 6'3"
    Weight: 186 lb.
Drafted: S61 3rd Overall, Riga Reign
    Username: @Victor

Asking most VHL members about the best player of the S60s will very likely turn up the same answer, and it isn't Cast. The two-way play of Matt Thompson made him a perennial favorite in fantasy leagues, leaving the subject of this article, at times, "Cast" out of the limelight. It would be a stretch to say that, beyond fantasy love, Thompson was all that far ahead, though--Cast ranks above him on the all-time points list and ended up with a list of awards which would make most other players jealous. A pure scorer who only once broke 100 hits, his agent once said that he had no regrets in this regard, and justifiably so. Cast did what he did better than anyone else in the decade, and for that reason he was easily admitted to the Hall of Fame in his first season of eligibility, making him Victor's fifth player in a row to be inducted.

    VHLM Career (S60)
    72 GP | 38G - 38A - 76P | +14 | 12 HIT | 20 SB
    Playoffs: 6 GP | 2G - 1A - 3P | +1 | 1 HIT | 2 SB
Though Cast's VHLM career wasn't exactly one for the ages, he was a valuable contributor for the then-Oslo Storm. His scoring balance showed a flash of what was to come--putting up just as many goals as assists, Cast was able to establish himself as the player to look for, the one to put the puck in the net and the one to make the plays that mattered. This statline, combined with his agent's reputation as a master builder and all-time great earner, was enough to propel him to third overall in S61, behind Thompson and Samuel Gate.

    S61 (RIG)
    72 GP | 49G - 48A - 97P | +14 | 88 HIT | 28 SB
Being on a non-playoff team, Cast was immediately thrust into a significant role, and he did not disappoint, fully living up to early-first-round expectations with 97 points. Once again showing his flair as a pure scorer, he put up more goals than assists and sat on top of the rookie pile with a point total impressive for a player at any stage of their career, playing far ahead of the 56-point Thompson and earning the Stolzschweiger to cap it all off.

    S62 (RIG)
    72 GP | 79G - 95A - 174P | +81 | 121 HIT | 46 SB
    Playoffs: 3 GP | 2G - 3A - 5P | +4 | 5 HIT | 2 SB
...and then S62 happened. In a season that saw point inflation in general across the league, Cast rose to the top and managed to lead the league in points in his second season. By far his best, his point total in S62 was only ever beaten once by Scotty Campbell (who, mind you, played in an era of generally higher point totals), a figure which inspires awe for any member who knows their league history. Adding a +81 rating to his over-a-goal-per-game point total, Cast was an incredible force for the good of Riga whenever he stepped onto the ice, and to say that his four individual awards (Szatkowski, Brooks, Slobodzian, and Campbell) were all very well-earned would be an understatement

    S63 (RIG)
    72 GP | 50G - 56A - 106P | +53 | 79 HIT | 32 SB
    Playoffs: 11 GP | 3G - 6A - 9P | -4 | 9 HIT | 2 SB
S63, widely considered the first strong first-gen class of the modern era, saw the league begin to fill up, and the point totals and widespread inflation of S62 was generally reigned in. With that fell Cast's numbers, but there's no way to logically claim that he didn't still play at a dominant level. Already sitting among the league's elite in his third season, Cast broke 100 points and hit 50 goals and became a major part of a Riga team which would go on to win that season's Continental Cup.

    S64 (RIG)
    72 GP | 48G - 54A - 102P | +38 | 68 HIT | 16 SB
    Playoffs: 7 GP | 1G - 8A - 9P | -1 | 5 HIT | 4 SB
Once again breaking 100 points, Cast's S64 season was brilliant. Though not leading the league in goals, assists, or points, or winning any other awards, he was awarded the Scotty Campbell Trophy at the end of the season for his second MVP win. Still putting up goal numbers just short of his assists, Cast was still the man to look for when Riga wanted the puck in the back of the net. Though Cast's streak of 100-point seasons would come to an end in S65, his strong play would, obviously, continue.

    S65 (RIG)
    72 GP | 41G - 54A - 95P | +34 | 21 HIT | 23 SB
    Playoffs: 5 GP | 0G - 4A - 4P | -1 | 2 HIT | 2 SB
The S63 class rising to prominence, the league continuing to fill up in S64--whatever you want to call it, Cast's continued slight decline in production could be readily explained away. Who cares? He continued to play at an elite level. The fact that, in his fifth season, 95 points represented a career low should be a testament to his great success. With a career low in goals, too, and a more typical goals-assists split, S65 was the first season where Cast may not have appeared as a freak of nature, a sentiment punctuated by a lack of individual hardware. There is still no denying that his play was stellar, and in an ever-lower-scoring era, lowering point totals left him not the slightest bit out of the league's elite.

    S66 (RIG)
    72 GP | 33G - 47A - 80P | +39 | 65 HIT | 22 SB
    Playoffs: 4 GP | 2G - 1A - 3A | -1 | 1 HIT | 4 SB
...and then S66 happened! Quite the opposite of S62, S66 was a season that flipped the league on its head. With a stellar draft class that had active players selected through and even after the fifth round, recruitment was popping, and even with the addition of Malmo, rosters were relatively full and points became more spread-out. This was, unsurprisingly, Cast's career-low season, in which he put up a career-low (career-low!) 80 points, over a point per game. His +/- rating of +39 was the greatest indicator of Cast's true value to his team, on par with his earlier seasons and showing the statheads that even among a somewhat off season, he was up there with the best.

    S67 (MOS)
    72 GP | 46G - 58A - 104P | +19 | 19 HIT | 16 SB
    Playoffs: 5 GP | 0G - 2A - 2P | -1 | 2 HIT | 3 SB
S67 saw yet another expansion, with two teams being added in Prague and DC. It also saw Cast being traded to his agent's team, Cast breaking 100 points for the fourth and last time in his career, and Cast leading Moscow, a team in its third season of existence, to the playoffs. Though one might argue that a move to a new environment, combined with rosters opening up somewhat with an expansion, might have been responsible for Cast's rebound here, breaking 100 points was, by this time, a significant achievement for any player anywhere, and there's no doubt that a reasonable amount of success on Moscow's end was largely due to his presence.

    S68 (MOS)
    72 GP | 33G - 55A - 88P | +11 | 26 HIT | 39 SB
S68 was Cast's farewell tour, anchoring a Moscow team which didn't make the playoffs but was very much a sign of things to come--lesser-known elite Randoms, who would go on to play a major part in the team's historic S70 run and cup win, was spending his second season as Cast's teammate, while franchise goaltender Raymond Bernard had just been selected at the end of the first round. With more S66-like numbers, Cast still managed to put up an elite point total, managing to retire after three seasons of depreciation with over 1100 TPA and a career for the ages.

    Career Totals
    576 GP | 379G - 467A - 846P | +289 | 487 HIT | 222 SB
    Playoffs: 35 GP | 8G - 24A - 32P | -4 | 24 HIT | 17 SB

Podrick Cast ended his career at 15th on the all-time points list, with a point total not exceeded since Franchise Cornerstone's retirement eight seasons earlier. The casual, late-S60s-first-gen-wave member never quite knew Cast as dominant as he was early on in the decade, but those who do remember can still look back on his quick rise to the top and best-player-in-the-league domination during that time and shake their heads in amazement. Cast likely lost out to Thompson in terms of being the most recognizable name of the decade, but the fact that both of those players are worthy of being mentioned in the same sentence--and in the same induction--is a testament to the domination of both. Cast was built purely to score, and score he absolutely did, en route to a career among the greatest of all time.

Hooperorama reacted to Plate in STHS Grunts
    Welcome to STHS Grunts!
This is my weekly power ranking update that co-exists with my expectations article. Watch as I go week by week to tell you - the listeners, about the over performers and the under achievers. Oh boy, there are plenty of stories to tell. Let's dive into where I see every team going with the spreadsheet of doom.

These are the standings that I have projected and are calculated up to this point. Friendly reminder this only takes into the consideration of the TPA of a team and nothing else. Miami stays on top as to be expected. Houston and San Diego trade spots thanks to the massive amounts of FA signings done by the Bulls throughout this week. Mississauga and Mexico City also switch places in TPA overalls.

Let's compare them to how the teams are actually performing! For this I use the clever use of point percentage. By using a teams current point % we can figure out how many points they'll get in the season.

Let's talk about the three biggest movers, both climbing the standings and falling in them.

    Top Risers
    Philadelphia  +3
    Ottawa  +2
    Houston  +2

The Reapers are tearing it up compared to how they really should be sitting in the standings. Even though this is a rebuild season, parts of the Reaper play last season is springing to life in the early parts of S73. Ottawa is a bit of a riser with two positions over Minnesota and Saskatoon respectively. It should be no surprise that Ottawa is in the top three. A member trailing behind them however, may cause a bit of surprise as Houston follows suit. The team poised 5th in TPA overall is in the top 3. 1st in the league was tied with Houston for the first few games of the season.

    STHS Grunts
    Yukon  -3
    Minnesota  -2
    Saskatoon  -2

While we all look at the race in the top five, we forget who the true winners are. And the winners of the STHS Grunt title for week 1 of S73 goes to Yukon! Getting outplayed by a team with basically one goalie (Philadelphia) is a bit of an oof. But that's okay, Yukon kind of wants to be at the bottom for a better chance at the lottery. So not all is lost. On the other side of the spectrum, Minnesota and Saskatoon are getting pushed down a bit in the standings. The surge of scoring from Houston and the two way play of Ottawa has certainly seen a bit of an upset. It will be interesting to see what moves will be made in the future to accommodate the lost points early on. Every game counts, and for Minnesota and Saskatoon, this could mean away ice and stronger teams come the playoffs.

    Two’s a company, three’s a crowd.

Hello hello! Welcome to the latest edition of Wiggles,Wobbles, and Jiggles! I’m Jiggly Gumballs and today, I’m doing something very similar to what I did in the very first edition of WWJ. Which is to take a look back at a certain amount of games, and look at the stats to determine why did the team (In the first edition, it was the Houston Bulls) lose or win. In this edition, it’s the same premise. I looked back at the first 10 games of the season and recorded stats. Though I decided to kick it up a notch. I not only recorded stats of the first ten of the season from my team, the Ottawa Lynx, but also those from the Houston Bulls again, and the Halifax 21st’s. So in total 30 games worth of data was collected over the week. I chose Houston because last season, they were at the bottom of the standings. A basement dweller. Now they’ve become one of the top teams in the VHLM and is a team that I personally think has the most potential in winning it all. Of course Miami, Minnesota, and even Saskatoon would be good examples to show, but since I had better access to Houston and their game data, and the fact that I wanted to show how much has changed since then, ultimately made my decision to stick with Houston. I may do another one of these past 10 game look backs with those teams mentioned plus Houston if y’all want. Halifax on the other side of the spectrum, is pretty much a basement team. The very bottom of the standings. I chose them because: 1) It was a team I barely knew and I wanted to dive more into why they’re losing, and 2) It acts as a good comparison towards a top team like Houston and my team Ottawa. So with that all in mind, the goal here is to make comparisons based on the data collected and what makes the teams where they are now.

Note: This isn’t some prediction for who’s going to have the best season. This is merely a fun look back at a select amount of games to find out why a team lost and won the games as well as to draw comparisons toward each other using the statistics from the sims (Thank god for VHL bot). The stats I’ve chosen are the same as last time. Shots, Special Teams (powerplay, penalty kill), Penalty Minutes, and Goalie save percentage. These stats are what I think are basic deciding factors on what might cause a team to win or lose. Of course, there are so many factors that may determine who wins or loses. One example would be a key hit, or maybe a player’s individual effort, and the opponents these teams face can also be a factor. Yet these stats are more focusing on the team as a whole rather than a player or goalie. I will also put the google doc link to the full stats of each individual game since I’m only posting the averages in the article. With that in mind, let's get on with the show.

    THE OTTAWA LYNX:
    Record: 7-2-1

    OTT Averages:
    Shots: 35.2
Shot Differential: +21.6 (Shot about 21 more shots on average against opponent)
    Powerplay: 19.41%
    Penalty Kill: 93.57%
    Penalty Minutes: 6.8

    Opponent Averages:
    Shots: 13.6
Shot Differential: -21.6 (Was outshot about 21 more times on average)
    Powerplay: 6.43%
    Penalty Kill: 80.58%
    Penalty Minutes: 10.4

Ottawa had a pretty good record in the first ten games of the season. The Lynx shot an average of about 35 shots a night and was consistently outshooting their opponents a majority of the time. The  penalty killing is probably one of the best or if not the best in the league. Compared to the opponents they faced, Ottawa outshot their opponents by nearly 22 more than their opponents on average. Along with a good amount of discipline, Ottawa is a team to be reckoned with. The large amount of shots is mostly attributed to Ottawa's offense consisting of key players like Arthur Dayne and Alex Volchenkov with Lexi Glass also doing well this season. Past the first ten of the season, Arthur Dayne is currently tied for third in points with Aloe Dear of the Bulls with 35. Currently a goal per game pace. Though what Ottawa excels in is in defense and goaltending. Their top pair of Micheal Keef and me, Jiggly Gumballs has been not only supporting the offense, but bringing security to the back end along with Jackson Philliefan and Zachariah Kisslinger. Limiting shots to the single digits. An example being game 49 of the VHLM season against Halifax in which Halifax was limited to 8 shots on goal. Overall, a great top 4 with Gumballs reaching the 200 TPE mark. Ajay Krishna is also arguably one of the best goalies of the league. He currently tied for lead the VHLM in shutouts with 5 and is second in the league in goals against with 1.98 GAA. With that stability in the back end, it's no wonder why Ottawa has an amazing penalty kill albeit a bit lacking on the powerplay. Though the biggest weakness of the team is the offense. Sure Ottawa outshoots their opponents by a lot, but against a team like Miami, their offense stands no chance. Apart from Dayne and Volchenkov, there is a lack of scoring depth. Something that will likely change as players like Lee Xin and S Kuchar grow over time. Ottawa also can't seem to compete with higher scoring teams. Sure the defense is good but when you can't score, you'll only let the opponent get chances and thus the two loses against the aforementioned Miami Marauders early on. Ottawa also only has 4 players with 200+ TPE with Gumballs on the way.

Another thing I've noticed is that despite the many shutouts and high GAA, Ajay Krishna has a low save percentage. Though that's because of the team's success. Because of the stability in the back end, the offense has less worry about defending and can focus on getting pucks to the net. Leaving the opponent with less opportunities to score. Krishna has yet to be truly placed under pressure against a strong team, and when Ottawa does face a team stronger then them, they are more inclined to lose. Ultimately, if Ottawa  could get players that score more, or if the current forwards step up, then they can hopefully compete closely against teams like Houston and Miami.

    THE HOUSTON BULLS:
    Record: 9-1-0
    Houston Averages:
    Shots: 44.3
Shot Differential: +19.5 (Houston shot about 19 more shots against opponent)
    Powerplay: 33.54%
    Penalty Kill: 84.17%
    Penalty Minutes: 7.9

    Opponent Averages:
    Shots: 24.7
Shot Differential: -19.5 (Opponents were outshot by about 19 more shots against Houston)
    Powerplay: 15.83%
    Penalty Kill: 66.46%
    Penalty Minutes: 16.6

Houston is an offensive powerhouse. Not only did they restock using the draft, they also signed key players in waivers to make themselves an offensive beast that scores through every team in it's path. An absolutely lethal powerplay average with 33.5% compared to their opponents measly 15.8% average. They've also held their own in the penalty kill and stayed disciplined. What's interesting is that despite Houston averaging a whopping 44.3 shots a game during the first 10, their shot differential is less compared to Ottawa's. Sure they are outshooting opponents by nearly 20 shots more but Ottawa had a differential of +21.6 with an average of about 35 shots per game during the period of data collected. Houston on average shot nearly 10 more shots a game than Ottawa yet had less of a shot differential. Aside from that, Houston's offense can be attributed to the infamous Ladies Line consisting of Aloe Dear, Isabella Campbell, and Venus Thightrap. They also have great scoring from Christian Mingle, Julian Nousiainen and Jeffrenomitsu the 3rd. Houston's offense and powerplay has been so lethal, that during the first 10 games of the season, not a single team has fully killed of their powerplays. Each game there was at least 1 powerplay goal. Defense wise, Riley Knight Gee has been the leagues best defenseman this season putting up 46 points as he's currently leading the league in points. Along with Markus Schauer, they make a lethal offensive defensive pairing so to say. Shawty Nananana has also been pretty solid as well. The goalie, Drew Minott has finally had the opportunity to show himself as a great goalie now that the team in front of him is much much better than season prior. I also love the amount of depth Houston has on it's roster with players like The Blob, Leo Strauss, Jonas Stormsson, and Daddy Derek. These players only compliment to what's been a great Houston team.

Like Ottawa, because of how many shots are taken against the opponent, very few chances reach Drew Minott and he often finds himself below .900 in save percentage in some games. The other big issue is Houston's defense. Sure they're dominating points wise, but they're letting teams take more shots on goal than compared to Ottawa. Which brings the question of when the Houston offense finally gets shut down or is lacking (even though I personally don't think that's possible because holy shit Houston loves to score), would the defense be able to hold themselves in their own end? Sure the high scoring can easily cover for the D, but what if the offense can't do that? Then my guess it would be likely for Houston to lose. I'm sure Drew Minott would be able to handle some of the pressure, but again, no goalie can stop everything. A good example is game 47 of this season when Houston faced the Las Vegas Aces. Their offense didn't click like usual and the difference in shots between Las Vegas and Houston was only one with Houston having 30 shots and Las Vegas having 29 shots on that game. Sure it was a close game, but it showed that Houston can lose but only when the charging bull slows.

    THE HALIFAX 21ST'S:
    Record: 0-10-0
    Halifax Averages:
    Shots: 13.8
Shot Differential: -26.7 (HAL was outshot by about 27 shots against opponents)
    Powerplay: 10.83%
    Penalty Kill: 87.67%
    Penalty Minutes: 11.3

    Opponent Averages:
    Shots: 40.5
Shot Differential: +26.7 (Opponents were outshooting HAL by about 27 more shots)
    Powerplay: 12.33%
    Penalty Kill: 89.17%
    Penalty Minutes: 9.2

Halifax safe to say isn't going to win a cup this season. They probably had the worst start of the season with an 0-10-0 record. Ouch. Despite their opponents powerplay during the span wasn't too good. Theirs was worse. Halifax also lacked in the penalty kill and along with that had an average of 11 penalty minutes. Meaning they'd have half a period worth of penalties each game during the first 10 of the season. Halifax also can't seem to get pucks to the net with an average of 13 shots a game. Some games were limited to single digits like the aforementioned game 49 against Ottawa where Halifax only had 8 shots. Another example was in game 29 of the season in a 3-1 loss against Miami where they were limited to 6 shots. Their only goal coming from the powerplay in that game. Halifax's best player has to be their goalie, Hex Valentine, who is one of the leagues better goalies if it wasn't for the team in front of him. Along with the backup, Kevin Malone, they would probably be a really good tandem if their team didn't suck. Their best forward is Empty and their best defenseman is Rick Osman. Apart from those two, there are a few more players but that's it.

Halifax doesn't have the defensive stability like Ottawa and the offensive power of Houston. Hex Valentine is out here getting pummeled in net while his team in front of him are just pylons. A lack of depth, a lack of scoring, no support at all for the goalie. Funnily enough, because of the amount of shots Valentine has taken, he has better save percentages than Minott and Krishna. Valentine is also the sole reason why some games don't have the opponent's goals against Halifax in the double digits. which only makes me feel more bad for him. Halifax was also the only team I am covering that has subbed goalies. That coming in game 45 of the season against Minnesota. Malone had let in 6 goals in 16 shots and was consequentially subbed by Valentine who let in 2 goals in 36 shots in the 8-1 loss. The good thing is, Halifax has a butt ton of picks for the upcoming draft. Allowing them to rebuild their roster from the ground up. Hopefully allowing them to contend in the near future.

And thus comes an end to the long article. This was honestly pretty fun. Looking back at stats and figuring out why teams suck or are really good. Though that's all for this week. I'm Jiggly Gumballs and stay tuned for the next edition of Wiggles, Wobbles, and Jiggles!!

    Hello There,

As some of you may remember we used to be PT affiliated with the SBA ( Simulation Basketball Association ). After some discussions regarding affiliation and what that might look like, I'm pleased to announce that we have come to an agreement with the SBA. We are now going to re-introduce our PT affiliation between our two leagues. What this means is that when you complete a Point Task (Graphic, Media Spot, Podcast) you may claim it for 6 TPE in all three leagues ( VHL, EFL, SBA ). This reduces the load on the average user regarding burn out, resulting in being able to participate in all three leagues without having to complete tasks in all three.

    Fine Print:
    - You can now use SBA Point Tasks as Affiliate PT's here, and vice versa. This now means that once again, any PT in the EFL, SBA, or VHL is applicable as an Affiliate PT in all three leagues.
    - You may once again earn a second Affiliate Check TPE in the VHL, using affiliate Articles (Affiliate Check Rules).
    - Free Weeks earned via Seasonal Donations/Premium will be honored cross-league. Note: individual free weeks bought in the SBA will not be honored.
    - Theme Weeks may be exchanged cross-league, once per season, during the week each league hosts theirs
    - All Auto-12 claims will once again be in effect cross-league.

Effective immediately, you can now claim PT's in the SBA. You can find info about their league Here

    Sincerely,
    @Commissioner Team

    #3.  Ajay Krishna
Coming 3rd in our ranking is Ajay Krishna of the Ottawa Lynx, in 10 games he was able to help his team win 7 times and shutout the opposition 4 different times (only 4 in 72 games last season). Despite having a save percentage below .900 in the handful of games played we saw Krisha keep the puck out when his team needed it and only allowed 1.6 goals against per game (averaged 3.58 last season).

    #2.  Calvin Harvey
Chasing the top spot and the 2nd best net minder this week has to be the Minnesota Storm's Calvin Harvey, he's 2nd in save percentage and goals against average, tied for 1st in wins and had a couple of shutouts in 9 games. Despite losing 60 times last season we see a changed player whose on fire right now with 4 wins in a row.. Watch out for him next week because he could takeover the top spot.

    #1. ?? Bacon
In a week with goals being scored all over the place the Miami Marauder's goaltender Bacon was able to adapt early and position himself for the best possible saves when other goaltenders failed to adjust to the new season. He hasn't lost in regulation yet, just recently maxed out his build and is surprising everybody specially after being one of the worst in the the previous 2 seasons.. Now we see him rank #1 in wins, goal against and has had the 3rd best save percentage along the way.

5 games have passed and where are we now? Ottawa is on a 4-1 record with a 4 game winning streak. Arthur Dayne is leading the team in points with 13. WE HAVE BEEN ON A FIRE. We are optimistic and feeling great about this awesome start for S73. One thing that has been amazing is the locker room atmosphere after a win and before a game. Everyone is electric and hyped to show the best of the abilities on ice and that competition is what is keeping us going.
Winning games are a team effort. Everyone plays a role that is crucial to the team. Lee Xin has been playing on a line with Alec Volchenkov and Theodore James St. Louis on the 5 on 5 but he also has been getting some power play time with Alec and Lexi Glass. Despite him being a RW in nature, Lee Xin has been doing well on the LW with 4G and 1A in 5 games. However, we have to keep our foot on the gas as the season just started. "Ajay Krishna and the defenseman have been doing so well helping us from the back end there. We would never be able to score much without their help because we can trust them back there. Less worries on our mind, you know." Lee Xin said after the game against Minnesota.
Clearly, the lines have worked for Ottawa as they continue the season competing for the cup. Majority of their draft picks have made it into their lineup this season from the start like Lexi and Lee. They have been producing for Ottawa goals and assists. I can't wait to see where they are at the end of the season and when the VHL draft comes.
