  1. REPORT: Kevin King was seen arriving to the morning skate with left-handed sticks and took full practice reps with a left-handed shot. ???

  2. Speaking as a player on this squad who is feeling the effects of the sim's production crunch I say this with complete sincerity; It's nothing you've done wrong. Any team with a build this strong is going to have some personal player struggles when it comes to production. The league and especially the M is so heavily focused on building active players/members for the community that individual performance will only push some select minority of players. I happen to be one those individuals who hopes to have my player do good numbers, but I'm the oddity to the rule, not the example of it. I will always have a competitive streak towards myself and that breaks beyond colors, teams, or GMs. That's a personal drive that I have to adjust to and make strides in. You've done an amazing job as a GM. You've built a juggernaut of a club. We are a tight group even in Discord. You've done a GMOTY quality job. When it comes to a player's happiness with a particular situation the player, not the GM has to ask themselves, would I rather be on a potential championship team where maybe my production isn't best in a league where that doesn't really have any effect? Or do I want to take a chance on my points on a team that maybe won't be in that position come playoffs' end? And especially in my case I can say, maybe there's something to be said about setting personal expectations a little too high for things you can't personally control... That's something the players have to manage. You as the GM, have done a fantastic job. For what it's worth, I'm happy to be in Miami and I'm happy to be in the lockeroom with this team that you've built. I feel it's a team that could be talked about for a long time in this league and I'm glad you selected me in the VHLM draft.

  4. It was June 9th of 2020 that IamMoose entered the VHL and with him Kevin King made his debut, signing with Las Vegas of the VHLM just after the midway point of the season. In 30 games King put up 2 goals and points in what was a less than exceptional showing, but it was to be expected for a player returning to competitive play after a long layoff. What followed was a 2-goal performance that included a 3-game pointless drought to end the season 72 playoffs for the Aces. King would have a very emotionally charged outburst following that game six, showing the frustrations of his performance. As we headed into the offseason, King was drafted 4th overall to Miami in the VHLM and 19th overall to Vancouver in the VHL draft. He then put himself in arguable first round company as he set his cap for the season early, expecting to hit his 250 TPE goal before the midseason mark. As the offseason progressed, the realization was made that through the effort and determination of King, he would actually cap out in the second week of the 73rd season. Then the season began. King would get off to slow start, recording 3 points in his first 5 games, including 2 goals but with an average of 4.4 shots per game in that stretch. King struggled to bury the puck in the back of the net on a consistent basis however, and was racking up penalty minutes for the first time in his career as well, including a fight versus Halifax where you could see frustrations boiling over. King’s next five would be a massive boost as he went on his best run to date with 6 goals in 5 games to round out the first ten games of the season at 7 goals/8 points, including 4 GWGs which at the time would be the league lead. It’s been a brutal rate since then with 7 points over his last 17 games, only increasing his numbers in 5 of those contests though, his faceoff percentage would rank near the top of the board if he weren’t excluded for some reason. So, what seems to be the disconnect for King? Veterans of this league are also somewhat perplexed as King’s build isn’t damaged by any significant misuse of TPE. He’s on a top team in the VHLM, which would hurt his numbers as a forward. But with others seemingly thriving, why not King? Where is the sim finding a hole in King’s game on the ice?
  5. 1. You're down in the game by a goal and the coach has been removed from the bench due to a heated discussion with the referee. You're asked to step up and takeover. What do you do to claw that goal back? King: "Well, you gotta play your game. We got some great physical talent on this squad. I'd like to push the advantage physically, create opportunities off defensive stops. Control the zone and cycle around our great goal scorers for the tie." 2. Advertising is everywhere these days and in Europe they've started to invade the league's jerseys. Are there any brands you wouldn't mind the Vancouver Wolves teaming up with? King: "It's not for me. I'm fine with the boards and whatnot. The jerseys mean something and you shouldn't compromise the integrity of the uniforms for advertising dollars. It's not like they'd be super visually appealing anyway." 3. The league is considering changing to Olympic sized rinks. Do you think this would be a good or bad change? King: "International ice can slow the game down a bit. I think goalies get enough breaks in the VHL, I like the NA ice." 4. You've been given free reign to design a mascot for the Wolves. What would their name be? What do they look like (Describe)? King: *laughs* "Gotta be a white wolf. Name him Marty. He can wear the uni uniform and have his tail out the back." 5. What would be your ideal version of a goal song? King: "Deep train horn bass with a subtle steam engine sound over it. A wolf's howl as a flare" 6. We're winning a game 3-1 and Spyro's picked up a bad injury and the back up has gone in but become injured... Which of your teammates are best suited to try and maintain your lead of the game? King: "Adrienne. Tough, gets in the lane, and not afraid to get involved physically. I imagine Adrienne could translate that in net."
  6. Press Conference for the week of August 3rd-9th. I will be loosening up a bit more once I'm moved in and settled. Right now due to time constraints things gotta be a little more straightforward. 1. 7-4-1 in last week's stretch for 15 points. How do you feel your player did during this week of games? 2. With WJC coming up, the GM race is heating up. Which team do you think has the best chance of taking the crown in WJC this season? 3. A lot of people hate Media Spots. Why do you think that is? If you're one that does hate them, why? 4. If you could add one thing to the Player Store for purchase what would it be? 5. Who has better hair, Merrick or Dimmadome? 6. What is IR's sexiest quality? The more uncomfortable answers the better. ?
  7. I always love detailed team concepts. I appreciate the work you put into making this. Unfortunately, this one doesn't really jump at me though. I do like the uniforms in some ways, and the logos are all really nice. I'm not crazy about the pants, but I'm so old school so that's me. I think the color scheme is great. It's a more muted take on popular red/blue schemes and it looks sharp, though the Alternate Jersey shows how much red work as an accent as opposed to primary. Regardless, fantastic work, I think you have a talent for making this stuff. Would love to see a SDM redesign if you were up for it??? Design: 8/10 Work: All of the/10
  8. That's awesome. I love little stories like these. They bring so much immersion to the league. I do wonder why leagues are against #0 for a jersey. It doesn't make much sense to me beyond the use for mascots. you're getting a 10/10 from me though. I hate reviews but gotta get ahead of the trivia again. And plus, this made me smile.

  10. 1. Miami began the season 9-0-1, a phenomenal start. How do you feel the team has lived up to the expectations set by many so far and how does the current start reflect your expectations for Miami this season? King: “I’ll admit, I had concerns that we’d have some troubles with the sim and that would plague us early. I’m so proud of the group we have here. We can talk about expectations all day but it’s the work and the effort that these guys and gals put in that have us where we are.” 2. How satisfied are you with your player’s start to this season? What are your expectations as the season rolls on? King: “An impossible question for me. Right now I’m focused on putting up more numbers and that’s been a little hit and miss. Guys like Laine, Stansson, Lamb are really firing on all cylinders. We’re right in the thick of it though. And I’ve been fortunate enough to capitalize on some game deciding plays, so that’s been rewarding. Never content though. I want to elevate my play even more down the stretch here as every game becomes more of a challenge.” 3. A lot has been said about Miami as the Evil, the Heels of the M. Ten games in, how do you feel about that perception now? King: “People are gonna talk. We’re pretty heavy down the lineup with top end stars so people were always gonna talk. We just gotta play our game.” 4. To bridge into the last few questions here; What part of your player’s game are you most focused on aside from SC and DF? King: “Possibly puck handling, maybe passing as well. I’m in a unique position where all my training is going to be focused on next season now so it’s difficult to put those extra reps into any category right now. For my last tweaks in the M, I think PH or PA might be the way to go.” 5. If you could pick one skill that could be my effective in the sim, what would it be? Moose: “my effective…” Ya FUCKED IT UP MOOSE! King: “Leadership. I think Leadership can be a great momentum turner in a sim.” 6. With 16 teams in the VHL and 12 in the M, there’s plenty of space for more new members. With what took place with recruitment recently, what suggestions would you give to the recruiters of this league on how to attract new faces? King: “I think it’s not just about new recruits, but retaining current recruits. And possibly attracting people back to the league who maybe welfare check a lot but could be doing more. As for recruitment posts, I think word of mouth, bringing on friends, and even ground, grunt work is more effective. With so many standards and regulations from sites about solicitation, it’s hard to get that permission to go for it.”
  11. A few words before we get started, I want to thank Rockstar for giving me this opportunity to be your new AGM for the San Diego Marlins. I have great expectations for this team and this franchise who has already experienced great success. 1. With a 7-3-0 start in our first ten games, is that above, below, or right around your expectations for this team? 2. After ten games, you have a sample of what your player is doing this season. What are your expectations going forward for the season for your play personally? 3. What skills, other than SC and DF are your looking to build on for your player? 4. When it comes to recruiting, why do you feel San Diego is a prime destination now and in the future? 5. A lot has been said and debated on when it comes to the STHS (sim), what role do you feel morale plays on the sim, if any? And what do you think the primary factor is in shifting the tide in games? 6. After the BoG conference from this week, are you excited for the continued testing and potential move to the 1.5 system, or do you have other thoughts on the subject? Bonus: What is one thing you’d like to see myself (Moose/Kevin King) accomplish with San Diego this season and beyond?
  12. It is official, San Diego has hired on Kevin King as the new AGM for the Marlins. It comes after King’s half season with Las Vegas and a short start to season 73. A rapid turn around for King, rumors and conversations suggested King was looking into a front office role early and has been chomping at the bit to get involved in team building. He’s got a lot of strengths when it comes to lockeroom presence, leadership, and organizational structure. He’s got a franchise builder’s hunger for it and that may take time to translate to the nature of the VHLM. No doubt he’ll have his finger on the pulse of his roster earning the most out of their time in SDM. If there’s any question marks on King, it will be his VHL experience and his competitive ambitions and how that translates to the VHLM. King has already developed a history as a driven winner and expects to compete at a high level. Meanwhile, the VHLM is so much about recruitment and retention that it will be fascinating to see if he can adapt that competitive drive into a recruitment weapon to attract new members to the league, and players to the San Diego lineup. We haven’t had much time to reach King, or SDM GM Rockstar for comments.
  13. With management busy, I offered to help out with the press conference this week. Hope it's good for you guys. Here it is for the week of 7/27/2020-08/02/2020 1. Miami began the season 9-0-1, a phenomenal start. How do you feel the team has lived up to the expectations set by many so far and how does the current start reflect your expectations for Miami this season? 2. How satisfied are you with your player’s start to this season? What are your expectations as the season rolls on? 3. A lot has been said about Miami as the Evil, the Heels of the M. 14. Back on June 15, 2020 (which in pandemic years is about 80 years ago) I made a post calling for reinstitution of Branding & Sponsorships in the VHL. Branding and thus sponsorships had been an aspect of the experience before, but was marred by tournaments, convoluted formats, and generally overreached on its complexity. I had created and then condensed a media spot (https://vhlforum.com/topic/85492-rebranding-brandingsponsorship/) discussing potential ways to revival and rebuild the Branding/Sponsorship system. IT was meant as an icebreaker to begin the conversation surrounding it. From there we saw some comments, some counterpoints, some reactions, and a lot of discussion post-writing in the forums and on Discord that painted a larger picture, not only describing, but going in depth on where these talks of Branding, Sponsorship, Player Stores, Salaries, and money in general should really begin. I want to first look at the problem. Money. It isn’t the fault of anyone in particular, not the Admins of this league, the creators of the sim engine, even big companies like EA or 2K struggle with it. Money, contracts, and the cashflow of any league and its players is vital to the success it breeds from a real-world aspect. However, aside from salary caps for teams and maybe some light boosters or depreciation blockers, it serves no real function on a gaming level. It doesn’t really matter who has the most cash in this league, as player, beyond a few items to stop player depreciation, there’s not much long-term use for your cash. It’s a problem that plagues all sports games unfortunately. Today I want to layout the blueprint for what money in the VHL could be, what it maybe one day will be. In this program, we’ll go through the three phases of a potential rework. First, we’ll cover Player/Member cash, contracts, job pay, and the Player Store. Next, we’ll discuss the new content that we would find for purchase in the newly upgraded store and how that affects your page as a Member. We will then move on to phase two, where we will discuss an idea of an additional profile feature such as the “Showroom” page. And finally, phase three where we will discuss Branding/Sponsorships in full under the new system and what that would mean for players. PHASE ONE Cash as of now is tied to specific players and is washed as that player retires. This makes sense from a player standpoint but does nothing for the Member/Agency behind that player. Right now, there’s no need for it to. What I’d like to propose here is that we instead tie cash to the Member, not the player. This would mean that cash would be linked to IamMoose as the Member as opposed to Kevin King. Meaning when King retires, that money would remain, or some of it at least. The reason for this would be to have cash for the new store which we’ll get to in a bit. The reason I say some is because I think It’s only fair to implement a fee on this. As a Member, you’re only able to claim 10% of the player’s total remaining earnings, the other 90% is removed. This would mean a player with say, $14 Million left at the point of retirement that Member receives $1.4 million. The reason we would have cash rollover with Members is for upgrades you’d find in the new store. Members will have this cash to use for the new Player Store. The new store would not only feature all of the familiar content of this league but would now feature new cosmetic content that ties into your profile and your showroom (we’ll get to that). This content would be designed, much like the original MySpace (yes, I’m old, fuck off) where it’s mainly cosmetic as a way to showoff your profile and your history as a member of this league. With some great web designers in this league and a system that’s worked on a much larger scale, I believe in the VHL team to come up with some fancy page layouts, borders, and backgrounds that would enhance the visual aspects of the Member pages. You would use your accumulated cash to purchase some of these items, even earning some special one for championship wins, individual accolade, and special events. As a result of this, contracts may get a bit heavier, job pay may now include or exclusively payout in cash, and finally Branding and Sponsorship would have a tremendous need to supply in the VHL. With added bonuses from Branding/Sponsorships, contracts, and other payouts, it would stimulate an entirely new economy to the league, even affording job opportunities to those who want to be content creators for the store. PHASE TWO Now that we’ve briefly outlined some of this, let’s go more in depth with the store and what I’, calling the “Showroom”. The Player Store would not only supply Members with cosmetics for their profiles, but this also opens for the opportunity to allow for a showroom. A page, specifically designed for Members to show off previous player(s) records, trophies earned, milestones, and other items acquired throughout their time in the VHL. The store can now account for other cosmetics like cars, mansions, memorabilia, and other items. Want a Viper, a Porsche, or a Ferrari get one from the store (No, I’m not expecting anyone to animate a specific car into a background or a room, simple graphics are just fine, I’m not a psychopath on this). Need a tank (Moose needs a tank), the Player Store. From there you can purchase your cosmetic items that will appear on your profile in the Showroom. The Showroom should also display some league related stuff. Links to your former player’s career statistics and records, trophies you’ve earned over the course of your career, and even some tags and comments from other players if they so choose to leave some kind words about the Member or player (worth maybe 1 uncapped TPE with a max of 3 claims???). It’s all meant to enhance the Member experience. It’s another aspect of the VHL that can add significant character depth to Members who want to show off their personalities and gives people a reason to not only make money but can further incentivize the community nature of the league. It promotes activity, and further rewards that community activity with more personal effects. PHASE THREE Now, under this new system we can revisit Branding and Sponsorships. Under this new system, Branding would have a major place in the VHL. Sponsorships would allow players to earn extra cash for various Brand related tasks given in their contract during the season. This increases the cash flow in the league, giving players more prestige, Members more cash, and Brands a bigger spotlight. We’ve talked a lot before about brands but how would it really work? Branding/Sponsorships would only involve cash and thus would only payout in cash. Brands are run by three people: The President/CEO – Who controls the Brand, it’s interests, and the contracts given. They also employ the other two positions: Marketing & Public Relations Manager and Brand Representative. Marketing & PR Manager – In charge of producing articles and content for the brand. They control the marketing of the brand. New logo, chances are the Marketing Manager made it. New article detailing the brands latest incentives and packages, the PR Manager wrote it. The control the Brand’s image. Brand Representative – Brand Representatives attract players to the Brand. They will go through the list of players provided by the AGMs for each team and try and attract players to join the brand. Once they have a player interested in joining the brand, the President/CEO, along with the Representative will make the offer for that player to decide to sign. Instead of tournaments and convoluted formats, AGMs (yes, AGMs) would submit a player list of about 3-4 players from their team they feel deserve sponsorship. From that list, a Brand Representative will approach the player or players they choose and will attempt to recruit them. Once a player accepts, they will iron out a contract from that brand and the player will decide whether or not to sign the deal. For obvious reasons, all brand deals must be approved by the league. These contracts usually will include target goals, content they want the player to produce, and/or some other incentives to gear players towards the brand’s awareness and impact. For example, a rookie player like Micah Adrienne (hi @poptart) would sign with a brand such as Konecny Goods, an equipment brand. They would payout say $3,000,000 over the course of 2 seasons. The contract is structured for a $1,000,000 payment for s73 and a $2,000,000 payout for s74. Because Micah is such a high pick, there may be a cancellation clause where termination would still require a $500,000 payout to terminate on the Brand’s behalf or a $1,000,000 fine for breach of contract of Adrienne’s side, but that’s for another time. The way contracts are executed involve the contract details. There are brand expectations and brand incentives. Brand expectations are tasks that are required by the brand. Failure to complete them results in a breach of contract which we talked about briefly above. Brand incentives are tasks that upon completion grants additional compensation to the player for completing the task. For our example, Micah Adrienne’s sponsorship would include expectations such as: - Recording at least 200 hits during the s73 and s74 seasons. - Submitting one VHL.com article relating to Konecny Goods per season. - Raising PA to minimum 70 by the end of the end of the season (s73). However, they wouldn’t end here. Micah could earn additional compensation for other tasks associated with the contract like: - Sterling Labatte Trophy Win ($500,000) - Finishing top 3 in rookie voting ($250,000) - Recording 100 points over the course of seasons 73 and 74 ($75,000) Brands give way to Sponsorships which adds an almost side quest element to the league. We’ve discussed before how details of a sponsorship could influence player moves, allocation of TPE, and now how the added funds even out in a new format of cash and cosmetics within the league. It would take some time and some ironing to the process to make it flow seamlessly into the league structure, but again, we’ve opened the door here. CLOSING We’ve covered a lot of bases here. At this point we are 1,700 words in and there’s so much more left off the table to get to. In short, more visual, and long-term content can create a new economy for the VHL. Money can mean more than it does on any sports game and simulation. There’s space and opportunity to put some great minds in this league to work and open the door for more content and creators to showcase their skills. With Showrooms, we can give the Member experience and upgrade without compromising the integrity of the sim or the player creation. By applying what we have with what tools we can use, we can take the store from being a depreciation cache to a shopping center. Branding and Sponsorships can provide new wrinkles to free agency, contracts, and even player building. Profiles can get a touchup in a unique and creative way that no other league I imagine provides. It’s a long jump but this is a great second step. I will continue to work on this and continue to bring new eyes to these ideas. I’m always open to questions and comments. I want to hear from everyone. Please leave a comment, a react, and tell us what you think of all this. Thank you for your time. This is almost 2,000 words. Fuck me, I think I need a hobby. lol
  15. ENORMOUS MEDIA SPOT COMING VERY, VERY SOON!!! STAY TUNED FOLKS, 2,000 WORDS AND A SHOT ACROSS THE BOW, IT'S OUR NEXT STAB AT A MONEY REWORK FOR THE VHL!!!!!

  16. I'm excited to see how Socks pairs with great linemates like Stansson or Grachev. I think Socks not only validates that Top 5 draft choice, but maybe gives Chicago something to think about for s74 when Matty is inevitably called up. To put the reviewer hat on cause I gotta do fucking reviews this week (where is my trivia @peoplewhomakethatdecision??? Not happy), I wish you went more in depth on what you anticipate Socks will do statistically this season or which linemates you expect to have the best chemistry with. Otherwise, I'm always happy to see more content and discussion with Fishy/Matty Socks! 8/10 cause I get yelled at for not putting scores apparently... Really need Trivia back lol
  17. I honestly think it had more to do with luck than anything. D.C. played in what I feel was the more competitive conference in terms of parody. I compare it a lot to the NFC East in Football. a bunch of teams that when playing each other it goes really well, really bad, or generally right in the middle. If you play that season again, I wonder if D.C. doesn't trade places with a higher seed almost exactly. I do think your assessment is correct for this season, though I almost feel they'll be a little more surprising depth wise than just top heavy. D.C. has a good core, and scary enough that D.C. probably benefits in the long run from the wonky finish in s72. 8/10 (I hate the whole rating thing. Trivia better be back soon).
  18. 1. At the start of the season, everyone is always so optimistic! What is your individual goal for S73? King: “I want to lead the league in points. I’m out to win a championship, I want to make my final season in the M worthwhile. I feel I have something to prove after last season. I’m extra motivated to get going and early.” 2. But, hockey isn't an individual sport. What are your S73 expectations for Miami? King: “Again. Championship. We got a great group of guys and gals here. Fishy is amazing on the back end and I’m excited for that tandem with Grachev. Bacon is a future star tendie, and what more can be said about the offensive potential on the front end this season. I’m excited to get started.” 3. Lots of VHLM pundits have labelled the S73 Marauders as a "heel" team, the supervillain that you love to hate and hate to love. Will you embrace the bad-boy reputation our team has earned this season, or did you prefer the underdog role we had last season? King: “We were gonna be a target with the way the draft fell so well to our favor. I don’t mind it. I’ve got enough of a chip on my shoulder personally where that reputation doesn’t hurt my mindset going in.” 4. Do you think you'll still be in a Marauder uniform at the end of the regular season? King: “I’m not really looking at that right now. Today, I’m suiting up for Miami. There’s no call up coming that I know of. Any trades that would be made are out of my hands. My focus is getting out there and making the chemistry on this roster flow. I’m focused on making the wheel go so we can ride off with a title, that’s all.” 5. Which team do you think will be our VHLM rivals this season, and why? King: “Minnesota is probably our closest interconference opponent in terms of pure talent this season. I imagine those games will be a test. With so much baggage there from the playoffs last season, I expect those guys to be circling our names on the calendar for sure. They felt pretty embarrassed by that series, I think they’ll come at us hard.” 6. What point tasks do you enjoy doing most, and why? Moose: Honestly, it may be the Media Spot. I like the idea of putting into long essay ideas and questions, things that make you think. I try to not just pad the words but give that topic the detail it deserves. It’s not always perfect, but I do my best to give things the space to paint a full picture.
  19. After what seemed to be a quick offseason, we’re off to the races on another VHL/VHLM season. Season 73 kicks off on Tuesday and with so many predictions in the bag for the VHL, and some doing their VHLM predictions I figured this would be an easy time to make my VHLM season predictions. I revised this a lot since my rough draft in Discord over the weekend and while I may be going out there for some scenarios, this is just my opinion so here it goes: Easy choices here are Miami and Minnesota and that could very likely be the finals for the Founder’s Cup in season 73. That said I’d like to point at a couple teams that maybe on paper aren’t as strong but have a history or I just think could surprise. Ottawa jumps out immediately with some strong depth down the middle. They may also get some help from one of the better overall TPA goalies in the M. Another team on my radar is Las Vegas for likely sentimental reasons but with Nils between the pipes and some young talent there, they are arguably the 3rd or 4th best team in the West, which feels like enough to get them in at the current moment. And there has to be the Spartan Effect in the back of the mind here as deadline recreations could push Vegas towards another chance in the playoffs. A team that’s on a lot of people’s tongue for a contender is San Diego. It’s understandable with a such a strong top line of 200+ TPA players and a young, but maturing D-core. Dimmadome will have to step up though. He was a great teammate in Vegas last season but lacked playing time. San Diego is the team I’ll likely take the most heat from here, which is understandable as I don’t have them maybe as high as I should. PREDICTIONS 1. Miami Marauders (E) - Conference Winner 2. Saskatoon Wild (W) - Conference Winner 3. Minnesota Storm (E) 4. Ottawa Lynx (E) 5. Las Vegas Aces (W) 6. San Diego Marlins (W) 7. Houston Bulls (W) 8. Mississauga Hounds (E) 9. Philadelphia Reapers (E) 10. Yukon Rush (W) 11. Halifax 21st (E) 12. 20. 13 years old ironically enough was 2007 for me. I remember rounding up all the kids in the neighborhood to play street hockey. We had probably 10-15 kids at different times of all ages and we just played. Sticks in the middle, two captains toss them to either net where goalies were and that was teams. Totally random. We had a lot of fun during that time. It's probably one of the last few good memories I have of my life.
  21. I'm out for my mother's birthday right now but I'd be super interested if you wanted to pm me tonight I can give a rundown of why I would be good for it.
