  1. I think the league should invest in a way to change player info. Like, I get the Player Store cost to change from Forward to Defense or vice versa but like, Center to a Wing would be nice. Change age, weight. Ya know, little admin?

All you have to do is message a commie and they’ll change your forward position if you wanna do C-> RW, etc. That is free. D to F etc isn’t.

the other stuff is interesting but I’d limit it. You can’t go from 5’6” to 6’9”. Doesn’t make sense etc. Idk ??‍♂️

Didn't know that about Forward. I was more referring to weight than height.

    3. Gustav

      Gustav

Height actually has zero effect in the sims. I've seen people say that weight has some effect but it's fairly marginal and nothing worth worrying about.

This wouldn't necessarily be harmful but could end up being a lot of work for something that doesn't actually do anything.

  2. I rescind my original comments. @Spartanyou were completely justified to pass on Fishy in the draft.
  3. Actual footage of the Laine Offseason League Draft right now.

  4. 1) After a very eventful series against Miami, our season ends after a pretty intense game 7. What do you think about our postseason performance? "I think you guys played a hell of a series. You fell down early and crawled back from 3-0 to tie the series up. Sometimes you only have so much to give and that gas tank was just empty in the end. It was still a great season for Vegas. It's a culture in the Aces' lockeroom to expect to compete and you come here to play and compete or you don't come at all." 2) Who do you think will win it all now? Mississauga or Miami? "Miami. Six games. Mississauga is another one of those teams that can but never does. The perennial playoff team that's just there. It's a good lure for an organization to always be in the mix but they never really go much beyond that. Won't be different here. So close but never really believably there." 3) What do you think about your season as a whole? And how well did me and Spartan do? "Oh, well. See what had happened was, back before last season I went to Miami because Spartan refused to make the necessary moves to keep me. So I didn't get to have the full Vegas season experience. In fact, you know he didn't even get @fishy? Like who does that? I get it, I'm just Moose but to not even trade up to get Fishy is just low. Boo @Spartan... Boo! Jiggly you're doing great though." ? 4) For those who are either draft eligible, moving onto the VHL, or likely staying for next season in Vegas, What does your future look like to you? "Well, I'm going into my final season of my current contract so likely going to get the Beaviss trade treatment soon. Feeling like King to a Garbage Can in exchange for half a moldy turkey sandwich. Value." 5) If you celebrate do Christmas, when do you typically start decorating for Christmas? And for those who don't what other holidays do you celebrate near the end of the year? "Christmas is generally terrible. I'm not big on the family reunion stuff. I usually do more cooking than decorating so not really fit for this one. When I was younger I used to do the whole cemetery thing for Halloween jump out at people but that was in days yonder." 6) What did you like the most in Vegas this season? Or are there any favourite memories you have in the Vegas LR? "I'll leave the first half to this season's group but for the second part, it's the interactions in the Vegas LR that make this team special. There's enough fond memories from my time in Vegas that even with only half a waiver season I still value Vegas as my home team."

For non-Americans, can we all come stay with you guys when this is over? 3. I like cheese. What's everyone's favorite cheese? 4. What is your favorite moment in NHL history that you've seen personally? 5. Miami or Mississauga, who wins the Founder's Cup? 6. Why is Viper the best? Bonus: Help me troll Helsinki by tagging @PatrikLainewith your press answers so he's constantly pinged. ?
  7. Interesting. Feel like Laine could've got more money.
  8. Not gonna lie, actually rooting for L & R to get drafted together.
  9. I'll take a shot at it. Any team will do.
  10. 1. It's kind of a hype playlist of 80s rock 2. We all chip in, Spyro eats for free. Goalie love 3. Win a championship. 4. The fun answer everyone wants is Shawn Glade or Gorlab here. The real answer is all the GMs who passed on me in my draft year. 5. We have Emi don't we??? 6. Me. I think I get moved during this offseason. My play wasn't spectacular in the regular season and I've been streaky in the playoffs. With two 1st round picks and Su solidly the #1 Center. Moving me makes sense.
  11. Our featured spotlight for The Long & Short of It is Jiggly Gumballs (@JigglyGumballs), Los Angeles Stars Defensemen and current Assistant General Manager for the Las Vegas Aces of the VHLM. Selected 28th overall in the s73 Entry Draft by LA, Gumballs played his first season in the VHL this year [s74], recording 35 points and racking up 178 hits and 153 blocked shots. He split some marginal time on both the powerplay and penalty kill, and racked 11 powerplay points, and 2 points on the PK. While his overall performance on the stat line won’t put him in Rookie of the Year talks, his play within the organization should be noted as the rookie played a very elevated role on the expansion Stars’ lineup and flourished in many areas, giving Los Angeles a glimpse at what Gumballs’ potential is as a top pair defensemen. His play on the ice for Los Angeles began with a slow start, with only 1 assist in his first five games as a rookie. What was more promising were the additional 8 hits & 8 blocked shots (including 5 shots blocked in a game against Calgary) where Gumballs emerged as a defensively minded defensemen prospect. He would add 8 points in his next 13 games however, bringing him to a 0.50ppg total for the first 18 games of the season, showcasing the promise of a long-term two-way presence on the back end. The Stars early season surge faded as they slid further down the conference, finishing dead last in North America and second worst in the league in total points. But it was a bitter season for the franchise nor Gumballs who took steps to be a more competitive team than the statistics would show. Gumballs as a rookie would finish in the top 25 in Shots Blocked for defensemen, and in the top 50 amongst all players for Hits. Where Jiggly Gumballs shined arguably brighter this season came with his role as the AGM for the Vegas Aces. Pushing the importance of bringing vitality back to their forum lockeroom, maintaining their extremely active Discord, and helping attract the waivers needed to plug up the roster depth, Gumballs has been a part of the Vegas train that has them in the Conference/Semi Finals of the VHLM playoffs. His attention to the finer details of the being a AGM in the league have in conversations as one of the best of the position and should likely be a top candidate for a GM role when one becomes available. His contributions to the league and his team, especially during the month of October have had him #1 in the league as a contributor for majority of the month, and he currently sits at #2 just 9 behind #1 Victor for the #1 spot this month. Looking at Jiggly Gumballs, his build is very tailored for 2-Way Defensemen play as he sports a 90 DF, 89 PA, & 80 SK/PH respectively, his top four skills. He also yields a 75 on CK, boosting those hit numbers along the way yet still improving on an already 77 SC stat. It’s another case of VHLM Defense build where PA takes over SC and it’s had very mixed results in the VHL. Gumballs’ second season with a likely better roster and expanded role will give him a chance to showcase whether his style is fit to stay, or whether he goes the route of GM Spartan and pumps that SC skill up. Finally, we sat down with Jiggly, who had a lot to say about his work as an AGM, his surprise as being consider one of the best AGMs in the league, and his thoughts on the next steps for Los Angeles. 1. It was your first season as a member of the Los Angeles Stars. In your own words, how would you describe the season as a whole for Jiggly Gumballs as a player? “Jiggly Gumballs in my opinion had a decent rookie season. He only had 35 points in 72 games but what makes his season pretty good was his defensive game. 153 shots blocked, 178 hits. Pretty good stats for a rookie in a still pretty new expansion team.” 2. You’re on an expansion team less than five seasons old. It would not be an outlandish statement to say this team is attempting to build from the ground up. What do you feel the next step in that develop is for not only the organization but your role within LA? “Well I think I can play a pretty big role in LA. The thing with expansion teams is that it gives a lot of opportunities for guys like me to become an initial franchise face of sorts, and I wanna be that for LA. I want people to think of me when they consider defenseman from LA. I don't think that'll be the case next season, but hopefully it starts there.” 3. In a league that is very Offensive Defensemen heavy it’s been fair to say that you’ve played a very two-way and maybe arguably more defense first style as a player. Was that always the goal going into your career even starting with the VHLM or have you morphed into the role over time? “It was always a goal for me to be a two-way, puck moving D with a heavier emphasis on passing. I expected more on point production but I think that might come in due time. I also wanted to try a stray away from the meta a bit by putting emphasis on passing rather than scoring. So far that experiment worked in the VHLM and hopefully that turns out good results in the VHL as well.” 4. Bold predictions, what does next season look like for the Los Angeles Stars and Jiggly Gumballs? “I will finally reach my goal of 69 assists. I was one away in my last season in the VHLM, and hopefully I'll reach that goal here. In terms of the Stars, I think they might qualify for the playoffs. LA has a good mix of veterans and young players, and as they continue to keep earning, LA will be contender soon enough.” 5. Switching gears to your other role as the AGM for Vegas. How did that role come to be for you and what drew you to Vegas? “Vegas to me has become a pretty special place. What initially drew me to Vegas was just me trying to apply to any open AGM spots I can to get a job. I've been trying to get one for a while during that time and when I finally landed the job in Vegas, I wanted to make sure that I try my best. This AGM role means a lot more to me than just a simple job. Seeing the players earn and be engaged, and knowing that I have an impact on helping them be more active means something.” 6. Spartan has been very vocal about your contributions to building the lockeroom in Vegas and helping revitalize the forum lockeroom for Vegas. What went into that process and why is it important to you to have an active lockeroom even on the forum? “In all honesty, there isn't really any process to keeping the discord LR active. It's just a chill, mostly non-toxic place where people can just talk. We are also really welcoming in Vegas as anyone can pretty much join and relax. In terms of the forum LR, we actually have a guy who doesn't have discord, so I try to keep that LR active so that he can also have a similar experience to other players who do have discord. Active LRs are probably the most important thing when it comes to keeping players active, so it should be the GMs, and AGMs responsibility to maintain that activity.” 7. I’ve personally seen some and it’s been commented that you have some of the better Press Conference engagement in the league. What amount of emphasis do you put on Press Conferences and why do you feel they engage with players more than say another team’s? “I put a decent amount of effort to my pressers to at least give people thought provoking questions. I don't want people to just go "here's 6 questions and here's your TPE." I want them to at least give a bit more effort in answering the questions. I think if anything, I'm making it more of a hassle to answer the questions but as long as they have a bit more thought in answering them, I'm good. Plus the personal questions really help with that.” 8. Final question now, you’ve been associated with conversations as one of the top AGMs in the league. There’s an expectation that whenever a GM spot opens that you’ll be high on the list of calls. What does that mean to you and better question what does the future hold for you as a front office personnel? “People really think of me that way? Well thanks to anyone who thinks so highly of me as an AGM. That actually means quite a bit. I do try and give the best effort I can in terms of doing my job and seeing that people think of me so highly means that my work is paying off. In terms of the future, I gotta say that there's a bright road ahead of me. Spartan has really taught me well and I'm already looking at taking the next step. I'm probably still too inexperienced but I think I can get a promotion in the future.”
  12. This week's The Long & Short of It will be delayed. We apologize for the delayed and will bring you more of the best content in the VHL soon!

  13. Hello San Diego Players & Alumni for the October 26th - November 1st Press Conference. I'm a day late (my bad) but here are your hockey but not really hockey related questions for the week. To keep this more interesting I want to play a game. I need as much participation as possible here as week get into the offseason. For each of you that provide Press Conference answers this week I will assign you a team (based obviously on number of submissions). This will determine your squad for the following week of Press Conference questions. Next week I will have a Press Conference that is tailored for teams with IR and I discussing which team we feel delivered the best quality Press Conference. I will host that team on a special predraft podcast! So without further ado let's begin: 1. If you were a dog, what kind of dog would you be and why? Cat people, just no. 2. I was thinking about bagels in the shower this morning (as you do) and thought to myself, "If I were reshingling a roof in mid July, what would the offspring of a chicken and a parrot look like? What would we call it?" So my question is this; Why is toast? 3. This was Defensemen Vladimir Pavlov's (Victor) final season and unfortunately Moscow was unable to rally back against Helsinki. What's one great aspect of the career of Vladimir Pavlov? 4. Is it time Russia got their own solo team in the VHL WC & WJC? 5. I got to thinking about retired jerseys and how that would look in the VHL. Sure, on the main ticket it'd make sense but for the VHLM, tenures mean it'll never be an option so I started to think. What would it take in your mind to retire say a Member as a whole for a team, to commemorate their service to a singular franchise whether that be VHL or VHLM? 6. Have the VHL & VHLM playoffs panned out the way you expected so far? If not, what's changed?

Its a good metaphor to the modern age of news. Controversial things get attention.

  15. I wanted to take a moment to respond to the article posted by @ShawnGlade. I wanted this to be short but through considerable effort I can’t unpack the cacophony of crap spewed out by Mr. Glade in short order. As a teammate on the Vancouver Wolves with SG III I’m disgusted and disheartened by his comments, but remarkably unsurprised. Starting with your first point Shawn, I think your toxic personality is still front and center at this point. Whatever likely halfhearted apologies you made should likely be replaced by every GM you just tired to bury but we’ll get to that. I’ll instead point at what’s poisoned Vancouver in your inactivity. Shawn Glade III, much like Jr is yet another bust. You said it yourself, you’re inactive constantly. But the thing that gets me is two first round picks have been wasted on you now. You’ve done more to tarnish you legacy as a user at this point than any goodwill for the original player there may have been. Your tag of “Greatest Dman of All Time” makes me physically ill as you’re not even the best of your era. Next is your comment on a change in culture. The problem isn’t a lack of immersion, pay attention to a podcast, articles, media spots. It’s never going to be, I doubt it ever was 100% commitment to the bit for every single player but to insinuate that there aren’t plenty of members of this community who don’t bust their ass to put out quality content related to the league makes you a fucking idiot. I was just on a podcast with 4 other people discussing the All-Star game and a review of our seasons. The lack of immersion stems from your lack of effort and lack of enthusiasm. As for meme culture, you best get used to it, look a real fucking hockey, the NHL advertises there shitty EA game, they have podcasts from players and analysts that go off the rails all the time. Articles are written about best goal celebrations sometimes; football is even worse. Players do interviews and talk about random shit all time as well; you’re completely tone deaf. You got one thing right, you aren’t entitled to shit. Tenure shouldn’t mean anything. I’ll break it down for you like this, time does not equal success. You’ve had three different players and have shit the bed twice now. You didn’t get an Updater job because get this, YOU GO INACTIVE CONSTANTLY DUMBASS! Why would someone give you responsibilities in the league when you fucked it all up for yourself last time and have never really made a long term attempt to come back with a less shitty attitude. No, every GM probably shouldn’t be a BoG. It should really be Admin/Commish, and the Board of GMs if we’re being honest with ourselves. It’s what the NHL does but that’s a different bridge for a different day. You likely weren’t approached for becoming a member of the BoG because once again, you said yourself you’re toxic. Having skills in VFX and Excel are nice and lots of people have skills in this league but what did you do to make an impact or put yourself out there besides bitch? GMs don’t suck, you do. I can’t speak to every single GM in this league past/present but can confirm that @Beaviss is in fact a great fucking GM. @Banackock has so many cups I think he’s starting a charity to give them away. @Ricer13 in Miami, phenomenal GM who worked with his AGM all fucking season to field, develop and interact with every single member of a completely full s73 roster. @Spartan in Vegas along with AGM in @JigglyGumballs have the best, most active discord in this league bar none. Spartan was a major key in my development as a long term member of this community. @InstantRockstar in San Diego, I don’t do everything as his AGM. He’s teaching me how things work and I do my part with other tasks. I certainly don’t do everything. Jiggly doesn’t do everything. Rice is so incredibly hands on he was able to waiver sign his team into the playoffs. That’s effort. You may suck at it but don’t pass your failures on others. You have VHL GMs grinding to build four expansion teams, an incredible guy in Moscow in front office. You’re baseless in your argument. The league hasn’t expanded to much, you just can’t keep up. Teams are beginning to field top 9 forwards and defensemen some 5-6 deep. Every team should carry two goalies sure. Is there room for more players, sure. But expanding too quickly. You’re out of touch. You liked you clean, bubble league where it wasn’t a 30-man/woman race for the top of the leaderboards. Where that second round didn’t hurt your spot. When you could be loud to get your way and now people ignore you because this amazing community works well together and barely pays you any mind at all. You’ve gotten your fifteen minutes from me Shawn. Time to go back into obscurity for six months and try again.
  16. I'll take the W, Wish we could've collected a couple more goals but Spyro holding it done.
  17. Scott Greene & Sigard Gunnar deserved better Calgary... Come on now.

  18. I think if we have another season of influx like we did this time around it'll get more heat and be a grander discussion. Right now we still have teams that don't carry two goalies, and even with a big pool of creations and new faces this season we're still in a good spot team size wise. If s75 sees another huge wave of new talent then yes, I think there should be a discussion for it and possibly and s77 or s78 VHLM expansion.
  19. +1 for Fletcher hitting 100.
