It should be noted that upon appeal it was found certain due processes were not adequately followed. For this reason @jRuutu’s final week of TPE ban (this week) has been removed.

JeffD reacted to Baby Boomer in Why Spartan is a bad GM?
    Welcome everyone,

I am sorry for everyone who click on the article hoping I would talk trash about Spartan, but I will not. I don’t think I have any disagreement with them and I want to keep it that way lol. This week is theme week and we need to talk about GMs or team management and in this article, I will talk my personnal experience as a GM.

Everything started in S81 when, current Los Angeles Stars GM and past Rome Gladiators GM, @InstantRockstar gave me my first chance as an AGM in the VHLE with the Rome Gladiators. For two years I was the AGM of Rockstar in Rome and we won the Renaissance Cup in S82. It was a very very nice experience and I will always remember that team and the run to the Cup. My job when I was an AGM was very basic and I was really in a learning mind set, because I was new to this world and it can be a really complicated one. I was doing the press conference and I even started a VHL.com article that maybe some of you know. It is called « All roads lead to Rome and to the Cup » and it talks about the daily life of the team.

In S81, I had the chance to GM team Canada in the world junior championship and I am really grateful to have been able to do this. This was my first time as a real GM and I really liked the experience, I had to select my team, choose the captain and assitants and manage the locker room. Team Canada lost against team Europe in the semi-final and lost to team World in the bronze medal game. Team Canada finished fourth out of five and even if it was not the end we wanted, I think everyone on the team enjoyed the tournament.

At the end of S82, Rockstar left for a better world in Los Angeles and the GM position was now vacant and obviously, I applied for the job. Rockstar has been a really good mentor for me and he helped me a lot becoming the GM I am right now. When I applied, he vouch for me, I thinked that it helped me get the job and I will always be grateful for what he did. When Rockstar left, we had just won the Cup and the team entered a little rebuild. Indeed, Rome finished in the two last place the past two seasons and this season is not going to be any different. However, this season is suppoed to be the last bad season of the Rome Gladiators, because we have a lot of draft picks and we believe in our chances. Now that I am GM, I no longer do the press conference, because I can claim the 2 TPE for being a GM in the VHLE, but I still continue to make the VHL.com articles.

That is pretty much it for my experience as a GM, but I hope that it is only the beginning. My goal would be to be a GM in the VHL, but I am not in a hurry and I really want to take my time and be sure that I am ready before making the jump.

JeffD reacted to Shindigs in My last Trade as Vegas GM
With me having announced at the start of this season that this would be my last at the helm of Vegas. I've just done my last trade, another oh-so-exciting pick trade. As is the norm with me. I'd like to thank Jacob for pulling the trigger on that trade now. He originally wanted to hold off until draft day and see if he still liked it at that time. But since I'll have stepped down by then, he was okay with doing the trade now. Which was much appreciated, as I really wanted to leave the next Vegas GM with enough picks in the S86 draft to be able to build at least the bare minimum of a competing roster around the players we will retain from this season. While also being in compliance with the new draft pick rules coming into play in S87.

Over my tenure of 3 season in Vegas I've made, I'm not sure like a half dozen trades or so? Maybe slightly more, and there's only ever been two players involved. This is pretty standard for me and comes in part from me always building through the draft in EHM and banning myself from ever trading for players/player rights there as part of the various challenge saves I'd do there. I just like a homegrown team, feels like something I built. Rather than something I bought. I've also traded away every single 1st round pick I've had (apart from the 2 I inherited from Mubbles in the 1st season). So it seems fitting that my last trade is me trading away another 1st with no players involved. All things considered.

Hopefully whoever takes over after me, be it Reid or someone else. Will do as well with scouting and make the best use of those extra 2nd and 3rd round picks. To use one of my favorite quotes, who I can't remember the source of anymore, from the NHL draft. "Good GMs make earn their pay on Friday, but great GMs earn their pay on Saturday". Which if you're confused about what that means, Round 1 of the draft is on Friday, the rest of the draft is on Saturday.

Imagine that... a GM goes missing for unknown reasons and a team's roster suffers greatly because of it.

The team has pieces to either build a new roster around or move into a rebuild by moving assets out for high picks if they choose to. I'd argue Helsinki is a great place for a new GM to land and decide which direction they want to take it.

Yes at this point it is likely that Helsinki will have to enter a rebuild, which isn't the end of the world.

JeffD reacted to Scurvy in North American Conference review:
A new season is upon us and teams are making trades and free agent signings as they gear up for a run on the Continental Cup.  The Warsaw Predators had a winning formula last season and as they make their run for two in a row, they made just a few moves with their salary cap near the top.  Let’s look at a few moves and signings in the North American conference this off-season and see just how the Preds stack up against a few of the busiest clubs.

    DC DRAGONS:

DC has a stacked club with an amazing goalie (always a good start).  With returning beasts Ronan Lavelle, Ryan Vidot, Nezuko, and recent trade addition Darth Kaprizov their front line looks formidable.  On Defense, they added solid producing dman Milan Dvorak to be added with a top 3 defenseman (maybe #1) in the league in Tui Sova.  With this lineup DC looks to battle for top spot in the North American league and shouldn’t be looked over.

    SEATTLE BEARS:

The S84 runner up still fields an amazing team with huge TPE earners and serious talent.  In goal Dusty Wilson is stopping pucks and has earned some serious playoff experience in his short time in the league.

Their top 4 at forwards are scary but their defense is even more so.  Led by Hulk Hogan 2, Max Torq (great name btw), and Mikhail Kovalchuk they are seriously stacked.  They look to remain competitive all season.

    CHICAGO PHOENIX:

Seems like just yesterday this team was at the bottom of the league.  They proved really quickly how a few smart draft picks and moves makes them a serious contender.  The addition of goalie, Cole Pearce is insane to go with a tough earning D core.  Bo Johansson is a TPE earning freak and since his rookie year is making a name for himself among the league’s best defensemen.

At forward they have the performance enhancing user(not proven….yet), The Board Game Clue on Skates, sophomore stud Scotty Sundin, PJ Daniels, and Baby Bob.  They are a difficult team to play against.

Dark Horse club in NA::  NEW YORK AMERICANS

The Americans have a tough few season but I feel this season they will turn it around.  They have added goal phenom Taylor Mourning and tough guy Henri le Massif, along with Poopy Peepants on Defense and Augustus Kennedy in net.  They also have a deep pool of prospects that give me hope this team brings the pain this season.

    VANCOUVER WOLVES

It seems Vancouver is always a tough club, and this season is no different.  They were busy this off-season adding Nathan Powers on Defense to go with a pretty solid d core.  In goal, Brandt Fuhr is a quality earner looks ready to meet any challenge.  On offense they drafted guaranteed earner and stud, Henry Eagles who looks like he is VHL Ready.  Nico Pearce looks poised to win a scoring title and is complimented by insane talent in Anze Miklavz, Alexandre Leduc, and Dogwood Maple.  Every other team in the NA is hoping that the Vancouver nightlife gets to be too much for the club, and they struggle because of it!!!!!

Clickbait is done, time for rambling. The new GM of Malmo has been named today and I'm officially done with GMing for a while now. I think I'm not leaving the team in a terrible shape, of course this is not a team that will compete this season but the prospect pool looks good and I think the rebuild is soon gonna finish. I think @Lemorse7 drafted pretty good this season, all those guys are already active in the locker room and they all look promising. Even though I'm not GM of Malmo anymore, I still want to commit to that team with Molotov and I'm looking forward for the rise of that team. I feel bad for you people who clicked on that thread, the quality is awful and you will never get that time back, I owe you but I won't pay back, hate me for it.

Alright that's all, come back next week for a ranking of every D.C. Dragons GMs ever!

Yeah, but the correct move (IMO) is letting walk on principle. Davos has no other way of getting Alex’s player to the team, he can’t just sign as a FA. If he wanted his own player from my team, I’d make him pay for it. Else he can walk, I’d give up a 3rd in the interest of not giving my rival a free meal.

Also I get Riga isn’t competing this season, but they had more leverage in this trade than they seemed to think is what I’m getting at.

JeffD reacted to xNJDevilsFanx in Theme Week: Chicago Phoenix's Greatest Players of All-Time.
The Chicago Phoenix have had their fair share of Hall of Famers in the past. The team has a rich history behind its unique name. Today, we are going to discover who were the top athletes of all time for the Chicago Phoenix; This article will honor the 15th birthday of the league. These legends built the cornerstone for the new generation of players. Their impact on this league will last forever.

    Christian Mingle:

His season in 78 is considered the best season since season 76. The Chicago Phoenix won the "Victory Cup" that season. He recorded 49 goals, 56 assists, and 105 points and had a +/- of 28 throughout the season with 466 shot attempts. He didn't miss a single game throughout his tenure with the Chicago Phoenix. In total, he played 576 games for the franchise. He recorded 285 goals, 364 assists, 649 points, and 3173 shot attempts for the organization. It is considered one of the best centers of all time. His impact stems from the rest of the front office. Many fans argue that he is the greatest player to ever play for the franchise.

    Jean Pierre Camus:

This goalie’s resume is too long for his haters. Mr. Camus played 513 games for the franchise. He recorded a save percentage of 0.919% throughout his time with the team. In 513 games, he recorded 285 wins, 178 losses, and 43 overtime and shutout losses. Jean Pierre Camus created the new era of dominant goalies in our league. Just look at goalies like Xavier Booberry, Papa Emeritus, David Davis, Oskar Lindberg, Brandt Fuhr, and Cole Pearce all took inspiration. In all of his games, he only conceded 1597 goals. That’s the lowest amongst all retired goalies. Throughout his career, Mr. Camus earned the Gregor Clegane Trophy, Aidan Shaw Trophy, Daisuke Kanou Trophy, Brett Slobodzian Trophy, and another Aidan Shaw Trophy in S80. His legacy will remain intact with the future goalies of this league.

    Lee Xin:

Another blazing forward that showed out for the Chicago Phoenix. He was an excellent defender, had experienced, and controlled the puck with his stick. He was a part of the S78 “Victory Cup” team and the S76 “Continental Cup” team. In eight seasons with the Chicago Phoenix, Lee Xin recorded 277 goals, 440 assists, 717 points, 3497 shot attempts, and a +/- with 88. His last season before his retirement cemented his legacy with the franchise. He was a shining star that could last in the sky forever. He holds the record with the most points for the organization.

    Matty Socks:

The influence that Matty Socks had on the team was insane. He was the core of the defense. He only had one season where he had a +/- of -24. That was his rookie season. After that, he finished all the above positives. He was also a part of those cup wins from S74 to S80. Although he had a poor rookie season, the scouts knew he would have a fantastic career with the Chicago Phoenix. He wasn’t the best playoff performer; the team knew his weaknesses and didn’t blame him. Instead, he put the work in and became a better player. Every season, he would learn and study with the best defenders on the planet. That’s why he’s in the HoF. In seven seasons, he recorded 160 goals, 433 assists, 593 points, 2,007 shot attempts, and finished with a +/- of 79 for his career.

These are just a few of the legends who have paved the way for other players to come. Their mark on this league will be infectious to the daily inspiration of people worldwide.
