    The VHL is a pretty cool place with lots of different people from all places of the world. Some have English as their first language some have Latvian or French as theirs. To respect this vast difference I will compare them to each beer that I can think of off the top of my head. Here we go

    Lucky Lager

    @Beaviss (yes I tagged myself)
    Lucky Lager is a simple beer that is extremely popular on the great island that is Vancouver Island. It is simple in every aspect and you can drink 20 of them and feel decent.

    Guinness

    @frescoelmo
    Guinness is a weird beer. Its mega popular but in my opinion its one of the most overrated beers it has solid taste and goes down smooth but its somehow also a light beer? its just a weird beer kind of like fresco.

    Molson Canadian

    @Esso2264
    Molson Canadian is one of my favorite beers that is everywhere. Even though it tastes like shit you know exactly what you are getting every time. It would probably like cat girls if it could so it suits Esso well.

    Labatt Blue

    @JeffD
    Blue tastes the exact same as Molson does in the sense its not good but its always the exact same. It has some bitterness to the aftertaste and Jeff is normally quite bitter at least when speaking to me.

    Budweiser

    @TXC
    You either love or hate bud. I personally think its the worst beer known to man but it is also somehow the most popular beer in its own scape. Not sure why and I don't think I ever will. Hogan matches this beer perfectly (even though he doesn't drink)

    I may continue this series on as I need to write these every week. Thank you to @Spartan for the idea.

    (Maximus with his Legion(s))

    Maximus Decimus Meridius had a very interesting life before the VHLM. As one of the highest-ranking roman Generals under Marcus Aurelius, he had several legions under his command. His story begins in modern-day Spain where he had a son and a wife and was often called on by the empire to participate in campaigning seasons. He was a favorite of Marcus Aurelius who at the time was the Roman Emperor and had designs to change his heir apparent from Commodus to Maximus. Before Marcus could declare Maximus as his air he was murdered by his son Commodus @Will which saw Maximus as a rival. Because Commodus took the emperorship for himself he attempted to execute Maximus for treason and murder but Maximus being the excellent warrior he is was able to escape and he began his journey from Gaul (France) to Hispania (Spain) to make sure his wife and son are safe.

    (Maximus about to be killed by a Praetorian Guard)

    During his travels, he had to beg and steal to feed and keep himself safe from the Evil Emperor Commodus's clutches. As he arrived at his home in Hispania he was too late and his house was destroyed and his wife and son murdered. Because of the wounds, he sustained during his travels and the shock of losing his wife and son he passed out and was awoken to find a band of thieves tying him up. He was then sold into slavery and purchased by a Gladiator school owner Proximo. Proximo was a kind man that saw the martial skill and intelligence that Maximus possessed. Maximus quickly moved up the gladiatorial ranks and eventually made his way to the Roman Coliseum because of Emperor Commodus's 150 days of games to celebrate his Emperorship and to win the heart of the people to his side.

    (Maximus pictured with traditionally Hispania Armor)

    Maximus chose a full-faced mask so that Commodus might not recognize him during the games. With Maximus dominating and leading the charge during one of the largest battles in the coliseum Commodus chose to meet and to congratulate him face to face where Maximus declared "My name is Maximus Decimus Meridius, commander of the Armies of the North, General of the Felix Legions and loyal servant to the true emperor, Marcus Aurelius. Father to a murdered son. Husband to a murdered wife. And I will have my vengeance, in this life or the next" Commodus was stunned that Maximus was still alive and ordered the execution of all the surviving gladiators. Because the crowd loved Maximus so much they booed and forced Commodus to stand down. Now that Maximus was known to be alive he was a threat to the Commodus's rule and he knew he had to be dealt with swiftly. Maximus, on the other hand, tried to stage a break out of his fellow Gladiator but the plan was foiled and all his friends were put to death and captured. Maximus was forced to fight the evil emperor Commodus one vs one in the Coliseum in front of a roaring Roman crowd. Shortly before the fight, Commodus stabbed Maximus to slow him and to kill him slowly so he had the advantage during the ensuing fight. Maximus eventually defeated Commodus and kills the emperor in the sands of the coliseum. At this point Maximus's minutes were numbered as he was gravely injured, Maximus passed away shortly after talking to his old friends.

    (Maximus killing Commodus)

    Roughly two thousand years later an archeologist uncovered Maximus's tomb in which he was put to rest. They took his bones and started doing experimental testing on them in which they can return the old bones to life and regrow the rest of the body. Unfortunately, his gnome was not complete and they had to put some other DNA to fill in the gaps. They used a random volunteer whose name was "Scotty Campbell" who was a famous VHL player. Now that Maximus is in the modern-day he doesn't know anything but fighting and war but with the help of Scotty Campbells DNA, he knows hockey. He has now declared himself for the VHL and the VHLM.

    Two Number One Picks, But Much Different Eras

    In the S80 Draft, Xavier Booberry went first overall to the Helsinki Titans. This is a great honor, and one I certainly don’t take lightly. I also know the pressure that comes with that high draft position, though, because it’s the second time one of my players was taken first overall—the first was with the Seattle Bears, who selected Gabriel McAllister first in the S56 Draft.

    My run-up to the two drafts was fairly similar: Booberry had 357 TPE at draft time, McAllister had 313 due to a slightly shorter season. And while McAllister certainly had more team success in the VHLM, winning a Founder’s Cup with Saskatoon as part of two straight McAllister Playoff MVP runs, Booberry’s regular season VHLM MVP speaks to the success he had in his one full season as well.

    That’s why I thought it’d be fun to compare those two drafts, placing them side-by-side. But I think I forgot… well, just how much the VHL has changed in just 24 seasons. Take a quick look at this chart, then let’s break it down:

    The Good: That’s two Hall of Fame players leading the S56 Draft there! In addition to McAllister, Ay Ay Ron was Boubabi’s second player, at a time when multiple players were still a thing in the VHL. Ay Ay Ron was designed to be the defenseman counterpart to his already dominating Franchise Cornerstone at center, and both would go on to win a number of awards throughout their careers. And although not a Hall of Fame player, Gooningitup’s Komarov would have a solid career as an enforcer in Davos, still sitting in the franchise’s top ten all-time in both hits and shots blocked.

    The Bad: Let’s start with the fourth selection in the draft and explain who he was. Tagger’s secondary player, Aackckqz Ky, was an attempt to make a randomly-generated player. Literally every TPE that he received, he would go to Random.org to decide what attribute he would assign it to. At retirement, the defenseman had 56 in face-offs, 67 in penalty shot and 64 in leadership. This was the fourth overall pick in the draft. And he’s not considered an out-and-out, total bust in this class!

    Given that, Bourdon certainly provides at least some value—he played seven VHL seasons in total, bouncing between Seattle, Quebec City, Riga and New York in journeyman career. He even managed 69 points in his next-to-last season with the Americans. The undisputed steal of this draft, 12th pick Augustus Gloop (a second rounder in the 10 team league), only managed three VHL seasons, but somehow managed to win two titles with S58 Riga and S60 Helsinki.

    The Ugly: So let’s start here: Will’s secondary player, Ho Lee Fook was drafted sixth overall at 113 TPE. That would have placed him 39th among the Season 80 Draft class. Fook, by the way, would earn exactly 7 more TPE and would retire without playing a VHL game. You can say the same for secondary players from currently active members, such as IR’s Mjers or Muffins’ Jigglejawns, who straight up fell off the map despite nominally being first round picks. Indeed, it’s not hard to see why the two player experiment in the VHL failed overall. Trying to get TPE for two players caused most members to fall off the map (or in Boubabi’s case, banned).

    But even the first generation players didn’t offer much. A few had very brief spells in the VHL, such as 15th pick Brienne O’Tarth who had a few cups of coffee as a backup goalie. But even the depth pieces of this draft didn’t provide any depth at all, making any draft picks after roughly fifth overall effectively meaningless. Considering four of the next five picks after that point were acquired via trade, that’s not great.

    And then there’s three players that for their final totals, I have question marks. That’s because, when I tried to find their player pages via the S56 Draft, I was told that I don’t have permission to view them. I’ll assume this is because they made absolutely zero impact in the VHL and were eaten by the system immediately, or perhaps they were taken to a VHL Black Site and forced into labor to build the eventual Moscow stadium.

    My Takeaways: It’s clear how much the VHL has changed in the past 24 seasons, clearly for the better. The S56 Draft was a down season by any measure, but by standards of the time, it wasn’t absolutely unreasonable. The second overall pick of the S55 Draft had 109 TPE at draft time; the S57 Draft had more depth but only two players above 200 TPE at the draft. Those numbers were somewhat expected. And while the S80 Draft is a stronger than draft than normal, I don’t think it’s seen as outrageous on the other end of the spectrum. The expectations have changed.

    That’s why for me, I might say that my first overall with Booberry is even more fulfilling than my one with McAllister. There is clearly more competition in today’s VHL than there was 24 seasons ago, which excites me. It may end meaning that Booberry’s career isn’t as prolific, given the talent he’s now competing against. But that’s just fine by me, because I’ll take a healthy and competitive VHL over three-player draft classes any day.

    Beaviss reacted to Lemorse7 in Leduc : Draft and meeting the new team
    One week before the VHLM draft, Leduc was talking to his family it was one of the last night that everybody was together. They were talking about what the future will prepare for them. It’s was an emotional night nonetheless. Before leaving home Leduc and his dad had a chat about what to expect about playing hockey in an other city and is draft ranking, is dad was always saying : The only thinks that matter it’s to be draft and I know you will after that it’s to you to prove that you’re capable of playing big minutes in important match.

    The week pass by interview after interview Mexico, Philadelphie, San Diego and Yukon. Leduc have a great feeling with those teams he thought I did well in the interview and was sure one of those teams will make the right selection to draft him. The morning of the draft Leduc was up at Five overthinking about all the little details he did in this last season every good plays he did, but also every mistakes too. Taking a shower was the best idea for him it’s like the water hitting is head made him forget all of those ideas and he was now focus on what the draft will bring him. He started the day with a little run around the block just to let loose some nerves, enjoying the view that the city have with some music in his ears he was ready.

    The big night Leduc sit down he knew that he will probably be pick in the late fourth round, early fifth. But he hoped that he would be pick in the third round. With no surprise The red menace, Nico Pearce And Hulk Hogan 2 was selected in the top ten. Leduc played with those guys in the Junior Showcase with the Warriors and he knew they were going to be pick in the  first round he was happy for them. We are know in the third round Leduc is starting the get stress after every pick he look at the stand with hope to ear his name sounds into the arena speakers. Leduc was talking to his agent when he heard from Canada Quebec the Yukon Rush are proud to select... Leduc is standing speechless and with eyes full off hope... Alexandre Leduc! He was jumping in the air huge smile on his face. He was almost running to the stand to meet the team that draft him.

    Camp come in no time Leduc was on the ice trying to make is spot on the on of the four line he was playing like the devils was possessed him skating like there no tomorrow laying the body with big hits. He finally made the team he has a spot on the third line right wing. Meeting his teammates was one of the most amazing experience that he has everyone was welcoming the veteran wanted to take rookies on a city tour bus. The tour was amazing the city his fantastic, but the funniest moment when was Hulk Hogan 2 @TXC saw him he started yelling: BROTHAAAA to Leduc the two of them started laughing. Another funny moment was Leduc teammates was talking about there dogs and showing pictures, when Leduc shared his pictures of his dog Hogan look at him and said : That’s a fake dog she is stuffed and every one was like : yeah the hell thats a stuff dog.

    Beaviss reacted to jRuutu in Life is an interesting journey. You never know where it will take you
    A wise man once said that the twists and turns as you navigate through a valley and around peaks can lead you to a surprise of a lifetime.  While you are traveling towards the top, the time spent getting there might feel like the worst time of your life, but according to the wise man, the adversity makes you realize that whatever doesn't kill you will only make you stronger. As you try to get to the top, you might do anything to get there. The wise man openly questions such actions. Once you are at the top, how do you get your life back?

    I still remember when I first heard the wise man speak. I was a young man. I was not anywhere near playing in VHL. I was not even sure if I would play hockey professionally. The words from the wise man did not fully register at the time, and how could they? I was just a young man, I had barely even started my journey. I did not see any valleys or peaks.

    It was only years later that the words from the wise man started to make sense. I had to make turns and twists, which were not easy turns and twists to make. At times I felt lost. More than once, I wondered whether making it to the top would be worth all those turns and twists.

     I tried to keep in mind the wise man and his wisdom. Those tough times would not last forever. Even if it might not feel like it now, those tough times would make me a better person. At the time, it's almost impossible to believe in that or even think such thoughts, but that is why I'm grateful that I had access to such wisdom. Whenever I felt down, I could just listen to the wise man or read his quotes.

    Just like the wise man predicted, I was willing to do whatever it takes to reach the top. Once I started to see the top, I was not going to stop. Not after making all those turns and twists. I was so close. Who in their right mind will stop right before the finishing line? Nobody. I was not going to do that, and I did not do that.

    Now I'm at the top. Mysteriously, I'm once again lost. Just like the wise man once predicted, I'm wondering how do I get my life back? Yea it's great to be at the top, but at what cost?  Also, do you know what is interesting? The journey down from the top is straight down. You don't have to make turns or twists, but the road down is steep. Steeper than any hill or mountain you have ever seen.

    I don't listen to the wise man as often these days. I feel bad saying this, but the wise man doesn't have much to offer anymore. His words don't bring comfort the same way they used to. Who do I listen to then? Nobody. That is the price you have to pay when you are at the top. You have nobody to listen to.

    Not so long ago Bana, the GM of Seattle, walked into the dressing room and demanded silence. He had a mysterious-looking character with him. He looked familiar, but I could not say why. Then Bana dropped the news. The mysterious character is the new co-GM of Seattle. Who is that person? Beaviss. Legendary VHL users. All the guys in the room were happy about the news, I went to shake hands with Beaviss. I work out but not as much as he does. The grip of Beaviss was something else. I felt something breaking in my hand, so I immediately went to see the doctor.

    The first examination suggested I could be out 6 to 8 weeks, but luckily second look the next day offered good news, nothing is broken, everything should be ok in few days. Everything indeed was ok in few days. I have been healthy since.

    Beaviss and Bana have been present in our practice frequently. It keeps all the guys in the team working hard. You always want to impress the big suits as they are the ones who give the contracts. We are a young team right now, so not that many players have big deals yet, and quite a few have their deals running out fairly soon, so all the guys work extra hard in practice. That is nice to see.

    1. Big new today the team announced the Captains; What are your thoughts about the this leadership group and can the handle the pressure of the expectations for the team this season?
    The leadership choices were great. I'm really happy with the captain(s) selections. Hopefully they as a unit can take us to the promised land.
    2. Ten games into the season are you happy with the way the team is playing so far?
    Yeah the team has been red hot to start the season and im sure as the season goes along we will get even better!
    3. Zara Colors is currently Third in League scoring with 3pts per game average; Do you think he can maintain such a crazy pace all season long? Explain?
    Unfortunately, I think that torrid pace is a little too much the keep up for the whole season. I can see them dropping down to 2ppg by the end of the season.
    4. This early into the season Who do you think is the current unsung hero of the team? Why?
    Alexandre Leduc would probably be my pick. Being tied in first on the team with 2 GWG and only having 3 goals? That is just a plain clutch player.
    5. What do you think of the body of work currently of young tender Thomas Price (9-1-0;  0.879sav% and 3.48gaa)?
    He has been good but I think that the numbers could be a bit better. It would be nice to get that save % over .900. I believe he is a little sheltered with the crazy good defence.

    Yes I am! Yukon was one of the teams that actually reached out before the draft and has lots of players that I know very well. It will be a fun team to try to win another VHLM Cup with.

    2. What do you think was the most surprising event during today's Draft?
    The trade for Hulk Hogan was surprising. Its unusual to see a trade so quickly after someone was drafted.

    3. What are your expectations for the team this season?
    Finals at least and Cup hopefully. I would like to see Yukon be one of the best teams in the league we definitely have the fire power to get it done.

    4. What are your expectations for your player this season?

    Review: I listened to the whole thing and I find myself looking forward to the new episodes when they drop every week. The editing mixed with the casualness of the podcast makes it a more relaxing listen and while I'm working and listening that is exactly what I'm looking for. Id suggest for future episodes to look into all the things you missed while you were away from the league and see what cool events or big trades you might have missed. All in all I love these keep making them 8/10

    Robert Wilk ecstatic about his move to San Diego

    San Diego Marlins RW Robert Wilk has had quite a change to his day to day life since being drafted in the VHLM. The lifelong Pole experienced quite the culture shock upon moving to the United States of America – a country he’s only ever known from TV and pop culture. Although the country turned out to be a far cry from the magical land of freedom and plenty, it’s still a great positive change for the young European.

    “The biggest difference has been the weather honestly. Living in eastern Europe it’s usually much colder and less humid than here. I’m liking it though, but having to buy a whole new set of summer clothes was a bit much.”

    The young RW is excited at the prospect of enjoying the San Diego nightlife and tourist spots. Fans of the team can look forward to meeting the player on his time off.
