Infernal reacted to Daniel Janser in a tale of two Brothers // Normal service resumed
Swiss Central Gazzette (Marcel's stats/Dan's stats)

Since last we reported from our intrepid hockey heroes, each of the Jansers has played in two matches. Please find a summary of same below.

Marcel's 21st played first against his former team the Reapers and could steal a 3-2 win. Zero a Leclerc @PoignardLeclerc11was the first on the score board assisted by Staal and Crumb. It was his first goal in the VHLM. Less than four minutes later, Hagel @jasplunds(AL, Von Strangle) scored on the power play to make it 2-0.  The Reapers came back with the only goal scored in the second and drew at 2:45 minutes into the third. Only 3 minutes later Marcel @Morcar80 (Warrior, Volchenko) played party crasher when he scored with a slapshot from the blue line his first goal of the season in power play for the final score of 3-2. The three stars went to Jp @WhiskyJack (1g/1a), Salo @Infernal(0g/2a) and Leclerc (1g/0a). McGleis @lukechezzwoo(.900) had ChickenLittle's @LiningPolecat number (.893). Halifax' power play was good (2/7) and their penalty kill was also up to an acceptable standard (4/5).
Marcel was noted with 1g, 0a, -1 and 22:41 TOI (second of his team)

The second match was against Vegas and went 5-4 to the Nevadan team. Volchenko @Austin2997 (McMuffin, Warrior) was on the board first, with a power play goal. The Aces drew less than two minutes later. However, with two back to back goals, scored by Leclerc (Staal, Crumb) and Leblanc @Horcrux(Janser), the 21st went into the first intermission with a 3-1 lead. Leblanc profited from Marcel copying his elder brother's trade mark move: a faked shot and followed by a tape-to-tape dish for the onrushing Leblanc who had a wide open net. Unfortunately, after the first period the Nova Scotian seemed to have gone into hibernation, as the Aces scored three consecutive goals for a 4-3 into to the third. Leblanc (Janser, McMuffin) drew the game when she reacted first on Marcel's rebound to bury the puck in the net. The Vegas team scored the last goal of the match two and a half minutes before the final horn and therefore denied the 21st an OT. Both tendies had not their best games and McGleis (.821) outperformed Clark @ClarkClanT(.789). The three stars of the match were Twist @Patty(1g/2a), Leblanc (2g/0a) and Bernier @Julien_Bernier(1g/1a). The special teams did an outstanding job by not allowing a goal against in the penalty kill (3/3) and scoring 1/3 on the power play.
Marcel had 0g, 2a, +1 and 2sb to his name.

Daniel's Storm played their first game against Bratislava and lost 5-3. The match was even for forty minutes, unfortunately a hockey games lasts sixty. The Watchmen took a 2-0 lead until 15:35 minutes into the first. But the Storm could tie the game before the intermission. In what some may see as supernatural connection between the brothers, Daniel, after being fed the puck by Puhovs used the fake-shot trick as well to set up Sprout @Liberty_Cabbage for the first Oslo goal in the game.  Knale @HatrickRoy(Sprout, Puhovs) evened the score with 1:47 minutes left on the clock. In the second period it was Puhovs @VOID Stiles(Knale) who scored for the Norse and equalized the score to 3-3 again. As already hinted, the Slovaks scored to goals in the third and took the win home. Three stars were Towbaker @Domino(1g/2a), Puhovs (1g/2a) and Knale (1g/1a). Fletcher @DragonFire420(.902) had a slightly better night than Chiester IX @Donno100(.900). Oslo's special teams were reduced to penalty killing only (6/6) as no player of Bratislava was sent to the sin bin.
Daniel logged 0g, 1a, +2 and 2 PIM (Tripping, obviously did not lead to a goal)

The second match was against defending champion Vasteras and ended in a 3-2 win. Vasteras scored late in the first for a 1-0 lead. Nezuko @tfong(Toon) equalized the score, but eight minutes later, the Eagles reinstated their one goal lead. Oslo's Defender with the number 5 (Nezuko, Toon) scored in power play to even the score again before the second intermission. Nezuko (Defender #5) scored the final goal in the third to win the game. The three stars were Nezuko (2g/1a), Toon @Alexander Ewing(0g/2a) and Defender #5 (1g/1a). Fletcher (.950) hugely outperformed Byrne @teknonym (.870) and kept his colours with his 38 saves in the game for wide stretches of the match. Oslo's special teams were on a good level with 6/7 for the penalty killing unit and 1/5 for the production line.
Daniel recorded 0g, 0a, +0, 5 hits and 26:31 TOI (highest of his team)

The Calgary Wrangler's, which drafted both Jansers (they must be mad to combine so much badassery in one team), had a minor set back when they lost in OT against LA, but recovered quickly when the beat Toronto in regulation time.

The stats for the Jansers are:
    Marcel: 12gp, 1g, 8a, 9pts, -10, 8 PIM, 10 hits, 22sb, 1gwg, 1ppg
Daniel: 14gp, 8g, 8a, 16pts, -4, 16 PIM, 42 hits, 9sb, 1gwg, 2ppg (we will follow up with the two missing games in our next issue)

    MALMO NIGHTHAWKS
    S79 TEAM AWARDS

The last few seasons of deft drafting and shrewd trading culminated in a historic season for the S79 Malmo Nighthawks. Riding one of the most potent offenses in VHL history, they paced the league to the Victory Cup and then survived many close calls to defeat the defending champion Seattle Bears to win the franchise’s second Continental Cup. Announcing the S79 Malmo Nighthawks Team Awards as voted by the players and management.

    Condor Adrienne Award (Best Defenseman)
    Scotty Kaberle

After an early season trade from Toronto, Scotty Kaberle fit right in with the high-flying Nighthawks as the Canadian blueliner averaged over an assist per game with Malmo and led the team’s defensemen in scoring with 62 points in 50 Nighthawk games for a career-high total of 84 points. He gave Malmo an extra spark from the backend and was also a positive voice in the locker room.

    Rookie of the Year
    Taylor Mourning

Taylor Mourning had a promising rookie season for Malmo. Drafted 10th overall, the budding American power winger led team rookies with 10 goals, +14, 80 PIM, tied the team rookie lead with 29 points and was second on the Nighthawks with 242 hits. He took it up a notch in the playoffs as his points per game jumped from 0.40 to 0.58 and especially made his mark in the Cup Final.

    Unsung Hero
    Artem Tretiak

While the Nighthawks skaters were scoring at a torrid pace, Artem Tretiak defended the net valiantly to the tune of a league-leading 47 wins and 4 shutouts and one of the best seasons ever by a Malmo goalie. He was the main reason the Nighthawks could employ their high-octane offense – they knew the Russian netminder would not let them down. He was rewarded with the Aidan Shaw Trophy as the league’s best goaltender.

    Most Energetic
    Brendan Telker

One of the offensive lynch pins of Malmo’s championship season, Brendan Telker’s energy on and off the ice was infectious as it was dizzying. On the ice, he led the league in goals with 58 and hat tricks with 5. He was also second with 559 shots. In the locker room, he was a vocal leader, always encouraging and enthusiastic.

    Most Gentlemanly
    Brendan Telker

Widely considered one of the VHL’s nice guys, Telker never let his or Malmo’s accolades go to his head. He is always fair, congenial, and humble and will put his teammates ahead of himself.

    Most Valuable Player
    Gunnar Odinsson

Odinsson had himself a season for the ages. Signing with Malmo in the offseason on a whim, he immediately boosted the Nighthawks’ attack and most nights seemed to be playing on a different level than everyone else on the ice. He led the league with 133 points, led Malmo with 76 assists and 10 game-winning goals, tied for the team lead with a +40 rating and was second on the team with 57 goals. He was also voted the league’s Most Outstanding Player, Most Improved Player and the Playoff MVP.

    Nighthawk of the Year
    Brendan Telker, Druss Deathwalker

Both of these S77 Draftees have become part of the core of the contender that Malmo has been building the last few seasons. They have different playing styles on the ice and slightly different but both potent leadership styles off of it. In his second year as captain, Deathwalker may be only in his third season but he carries himself like a veteran with a commanding presence that bids his teammates follow him into battle. He is savvy and yet sensitive to the needs of the team. Despite not wearing a letter, Telker harbors a youthful enthusiasm that spreads throughout the organization. They both have a common goal to win and ensures every member of the Nighthawks is ready to push for that goal.

    3-Stars Award
    Gunnar Odinsson

No surprise here as the league’s Most Outstanding Player and leading scorer took the team’s 3-Stars Award. He led the league in 1-Star selections (14), total Star selections (32) and Star Points (700) for his sensational year.

    Full 3-Star standings below:

    Druss Deathwalker: Learning To Lead

When I stepped into the Malmo locker room fresh from the S77 Draft, I was young, but not unseasoned, and with a bit of an axe to grind and a chip on my shoulder. I had some attitude, sure, and I played with an edge. I knew I had something to prove and wanted to make an immediate impact with the Nighthawks, not just on the ice but off it as well. My offense wasn’t where it needed to be that first season although leading the league in hits and being a positive and enthusiastic voice in the locker room proved to my teammates that I had what it took and I would do whatever it took to win.

At the start of S78, I was surprised and ecstatically honored to be named the sixth captain in franchise history. I’ve always thought that to be a leader, you need to become the type of person you would want to follow. I was so fortunate to learn from some great leaders in Malmo including Chris Hylands and Marshall James Frostbeard for a short time, and others such as Arthur Dayne, Viktor Alexei Kamenov, Randy Marsh, Artem Tretiak and Woody McPine. Even though I’ve taken something valuable from every teammate so far, I stay true to myself, my leadership style, and my game. Even though for hockey, being a leader usually means putting up points – and I continue to improve my offense – I still go out on the ice to disrupt teams physically yet I also strive to be a strong yet encouraging voice for my team. I train and practice as hard as I can and I play the game as hard as I can. And seeing as I’ve remained the captain into S80, I hope that I can continue to lead us to new heights as a team.

One of the great things about the Nighthawks organization is it is full of leaders from the top down. GM Hylands and AGM STZ have assemble a group of players that lead and feed off of each other. We will do whatever it takes for each other. Everyone in that locker room is equal with the other. I’m almost just a figurehead – a mascot for our boisterous style of play. I’ve learned quickly as the captain that I don’t really lead this team. We lead together. Winning the Continental Cup last season cemented this notion. We lead together. We won together. And as the captain, sometimes I lead and other times I follow. The key is knowing when to switch.
