Pension Update As we know there has been on-going inflation in the amount of TPE earned over a player's career and hitting 400 TPE is no longer the milestone it was in the past. As a result, we're updating the requirement for the Pension plan eligibility to bring it more in line with the league's current state.

Starting with the week ending February 2nd:

    Revised Pension Eligibility Rule:
Claimable by members who have had 2 players (past/current) above 400 700 TPE: 5 TPE/week

Day 2, part 2. It’s day 3, actually. Sorry about that, this offseason is moving fast and it’s tough to keep up. Anyway, we hope you all liked the first part, in which some players probably surprised you a bit. Let’s keep it up today with part 2, in which you’ll find one player who fell a lot from last season’s ranking and four who are new to this list. Enjoy!

    20. Gritty

One of Moscow’s proud free-agency signings Gritty is here. Selected 4th Overall in S65, Gritty hasn’t been the highest-earning player but he surely has been an amazing addition to Moscow’s high-flying squad. Last season, Gritty finished almost point per game with career-high 68 points in 72 games played. A great showing for a player that wasn’t really able to shine that much in both Vancouver and Davos. With 7 points in 11 playoff games last season, Gritty showed the ability to be there when star players like Jet Jaguar might not have the best time on the ice.  Some might argue that Gritty doesn’t have a huge technical prowess to be the best player on the ice all the time but he has the willingness and the mind to be there and support his teammates day in and day out. Added to that, while in Moscow, Gritty has slightly turned his aggression down and who knows, maybe next season because of that he will be rated even higher in this Top 25 list.

    19. Ryan Sullivan Jr

The first overall pick of the Season 64 Entry Draft, Ryan Sullivan Jr has been a bit of a journeyman, which you rarely see from a top pick. Originally drafted by the New York Americans, he was moved to Toronto, then again to Malmo. A Christian Stolzschweiger Trophy winner in Season 64, Sullivan also won the Jake Wylde Trophy with Toronto in Season 67 as the league's top defensive defenseman. A switch to left-wing after being traded to the Malmo Nighthawks resulted in an offensive explosion, a career-best 33 goals and 70 assists for a staggering 103 points. However, just as quickly as the offensive prowess came, it vanished. His production in Season 69 (nice) was cut by more than half, scoring just 48 points. Sullivan's prime may be past him now, but he still remains a dangerous player, especially with Malmo loading up for a serious push at the Continental Cup, which places Ryan Sullivan Jr at #19 on our list.

    18. Guillaume Fontenette

This French defenseman is ready to step into the forefront of the Helsinki Titans organization as their top defenseman by TPE, as well as the fourth-highest overall. A true steal, Guillaume Fontenette was drafted at 30th overall in the S66 VHL draft. Fontenette struggled to make his mark in his first year on the Helsinki roster, only managing a total of 14 points. However, in an era dominated by offensive defensemen, it is difficult to stand out when you focus on the defensive aspect of the game. Fontenette proved this faulty in season 69, as his 166 shots blocked was the best in the league, in addition to improving his offensive output significantly to 66 points on 13 goals. Fontenette is known for being a danger from the blue line, having sniped 9 of his goals from the power play. It will be interesting to see how the Frenchman handles the step up to the first defensive pairing; odds are he’ll do just fine.

    17. Pat Svoboda

Pat Svoboda is a true 200 ft. player who is just as visible on defence as he is on the points sheet. Pat came up just short of a point per game in S69, but he had 39 shots blocked, which is impressive for a forward. After four straight seasons in the playoffs, it looked as though he might finally raise his first cup. Riga came up just short, but it is arguable that they got even stronger over this offseason with the acquisition of another top-level goaltender. Expect Svoboda to rack up assists this season with the addition of a couple of high-quality offensive prospects that he will likely share ice time throughout the season.

    16. Shawnomir Jagr

Following the release of last year's list from which he was left out, Shawnomir Jagr promised he would enter this edition straight at #1. We hope he is satisfied with entering it at #16 instead. He truly showed the full extent of his skills during this past season, as he broke out and scored 33 goals and 50 assists, for a total of 83 points, good for 8th in the league in points. The Vancouver Wolves forward's previous career high was 45 points, which might earn him a consideration for the Dustin Funk Trophy, though the sudden upgrade might be largely due to the fact that he now shares a line with two elite goalscorers in Hunter Hearst Helmsley and Julius Freeman, when he was limited to second-line minutes in the previous campaigns. Still, as long as the three play together, we can expect all of them to appear near the top of the goals and points leaderboards at the end of the season, which is a testament to how good each of them is individually and a proof that Jagr deserves to finally appear on our Top 25 Players list.
    McWolf

What do you guys think of this part? Any of you want to predict they should be #1 next season? It worked for Jagr, as he made it into the list for the first time straight after saying it. What’s the saying? If you believe it hard enough, it might become real? Something like that, anyway.

    Hi @Members,

There is 1 small change to announce this off-season but I think it's a pain point we will all appreciate being addressed. The number of questions required to earn 1 TPE in Team or Player Press Conferences has been reduced from 5 to 3.

    Revised Press Conference Rules:
All players can earn up to 2 Capped TPE per week through Press Conferences, by way of any combination of the following:
1 TPE for asking 5 3 unique questions in any team or other players press conferences 1 TPE for answering 3 questions in your own team or player press conference

    (S70 Helsinki Titans Prospects)

As we draw S69 to a close and wrap up the draft for more off-season preparation, let's take a look at the players drafted by Helsinki in this past draft and see where they'll end up on the team. Let's just cover the players as of now, that being the success they've found so far, and potential going into their pro careers with the Titans.

    Round 1, Pick 8 - Jared Spaz:

The first pick of the Titans S70 draft had them taking RW Jared Spaz 8th overall in the first round. The Italian winger has had an explosion of growth in the last few weeks, propelling him into a top 10 pick, and for obvious reasons. Spaz has great offensive awareness & shot, though only being 5'10'' he's not much of a physical player and needs a bit of time to work on skating and defensive positioning. Beauty of Jared and all the players mentioned here is that they're young, and have a long time to get much better, so those'll areas will only improve. Playing with Yukon in the VHLM this year, Spaz had 24 points in 54 games, split evenly among goals and assists with 12 each. Putting up an amazing 20% shooting accuracy as well, Spaz looks to spend at least another year in the minors now with his new team in Philadelphia lighting the lamp and being an offensive threat wherever he plays. If he continues this success, I expect to see Spaz in a top 6 role with Helsinki in a few years for sure.

    Round 1, Pick 11 - Kyle Andersen:

Another Philadelphia Reaper draft pick, Kyle Andersen is an absolute behemoth of a player standing at a staggering 6'8'', 250lbs. Drafted 11th overall, it was obvious why management wanted a shutdown defenseman like Andersen. In a full season with the Reapers, Andersen put up 65 points, including 21 goals and a +33 in the +/- category. In the playoffs he especially showed up, scoring 2 goals and assisting 10 more in just 6 games. The great Dane put up an impressive enough season to have Helsinki want to pick him as they notice their defensive core is getting older, and Kyle Andersen is going to be a great shutdown d-man on the blue line for many years to come, though might require another year or two of seasoning in the minors to really take off, similarly to Jared Spaz. A nice fact though, Spaz & Andersen will be playing with each other no matter what next year, as they were both drafted by the same two teams in the VHL & VHLM respectively. Just a neat little thing I thought I'd bring up.

    Round 2, Pick 17 - Ike Bennett:

Ike Bennett is a very similar to Jared Spaz in the sense that he's an offensively gifted player with a bit of trouble defending in his own zone. 27 games in the VHLM allowed Ike to produce 8 goals and 9 assists for 17 points, with a strong 4 points in 5 games in the playoffs. In the regular season, he didn't shoot the puck too much by a forwards standard, but still held a shooting percentage of around 16.6%, which is still pretty good. Ike unfortunately though is a long way out of being a regular on a VHL roster, though we have seen instances of growth that would suggest maybe Ike reaches a previously unseen potential and becomes a regular on Helsinki. For now though, the road is long and hard for Ike Bennett, but isn't it for all at some point? All I'm saying is don't sleep on this guy, I feel like he'll surprise some people.

    Round 2, Pick 20 - Vladimir Shaposhnikov:

Yet another winger, Shaposhnikov is nearly identical to Ike Bennett in that he's a project player and is a ways off from regular VHL ice time. Only major difference separating the two would be Shaposhnikov slightly favors a two-way game over a solely offensively mindset game. 55 contents in the VHLM with San Diego had Vladdy put up 23 points, with 9 goals and 14 assists respectively. Playoffs weren't too much to mention as only he put up a goal and a blocked shot in 5 games. It's tough to say where Vladimir's career will go as his growth is minimal as of late, though there's a chance by next year his production will take off. Honestly I'm not quite sure, but I think similarly to Ike Bennett, these two players have a chance to prove doubters wrong and really turn on the jets on production & growth.

    Round 4, Pick 46 - Julian Dalvao:

Not sure how much can be said about Dalvao. In 34 games with Las Vegas, Dalvao put up 6 goals and 9 assists for 15 points, but unfortunately also had a -23 in addition to that. Glimpses of offensive potential can occasionally be seen, but Dalvao isn't a player I'd get my hopes up for. His growth has been rather slow, with the last few weeks showing not much growth at all. Maybe he turns on some crazy potential, pots 100 goals and wins the Founders Cup some day, but I don't see that day coming for a while.

    Conclusion:

All-in-all, this draft did it's job for Helsinki in acquiring the players the team will need down the line, but some players pose more questions than answers in the later rounds of the draft and look to be projects for Helsinki. As I mentioned before though, don't count any of these players out. These guys are young and will only get better. Fortunately too, free agency is starting soon, and Helsinki will have chances to fill holes they have in their team now instead of needing prospects to step up into roles they're not quite ready for. To wrap up this long read, the future is bright, and look forward to these players to come into the league in the next coming years to do big things with the Titans

My job, settled down again after our usualy christmas rush people blowing fuses left and right trying to make beautiful houses for the holidays.

The few months fully away from the league, and the about half a year i was barely active. Given me a nice breather. I dont really desire to join this season. As the draft just occured, or is going too soon? So figure another couple months away for another season will give me a nice breather.

It also brings me to my next topic. As always my player will be russian national, he will be a Komarov. However i want to give the league, the choice in his first name, can not be Sergei, Vladimir, Pavel, or Evgeni as they have graced the league already. As well as what position/player arch i should be. I will rule out goalie right away as i was never a TPE whore, to be an elite goalie so that position makes no sense.

okochastar reacted to McLovin in Helsinki Ready For Playoffs
As S69 of the VHL Regular Season comes to a close and the playoffs only a few days away, I figured I'd take this time to look at the Helsinki Titans and see what their team is looking like for the many challenges of the playoffs. Today, we'll just be looking at the regular season fared for Helsinki and their projection going into the playoffs.

    Regular Season:
This regular season was a special one for multiple reasons to this Helsinki squad. First and most prominently, Alexander Pepper passed Astrid Moon in Helsinki's all-time wins for goalies this year. That on top of Alexander having also first place in games played and second in shutouts, it's safe to say he's cemented himself as an elite netminder for this team, so expect to see his jersey in the rafters at the conclusion of his career, and a strong showing at the VHL playoffs in a few days.

On top of that, the team itself played great, consistently being a top three team for a majority of the season. The continued elite play of players like Julian Borwinn & Kronos Bailey with a surprising amount of depth scoring has ensured Helsinki is a deep team, and has a legitimate chance at coming home with their second Continental Cup in four seasons. Aston Martin is one of these players that has had a surprising amount of success. Playing on the second line, he's been a hair over point per game and 30+ goal scorer this year. Having only been drafted three years ago with the likes of Ben Hafkey & Guillaume Fontenette only getting better, this team has a strong future with a solid mix of veteran and youth experience.

    Playoffs:
The playoffs look to be a whole other beast however. Helsinki has been to the cup final a staggering 4 times in the last 5 years, yet have only won it once in that time span. It's obvious to say that these players want nothing more than to start on a fresh note with their Cup appearance streak ending last season. They want a history of success instead of this "close but no cigar" mentality that some of the veterans might be feeling after years of tormenting themselves over the loses. With multiple players announcing their retirements at the end of their contracts soon, it's truly now or never for these players.

The youth is ready to take over however, as we've seen glimpses of greatness from them like in Virgil Ligriv, or Ben Hafkey after the trade from Vancouver. Whether or not the youth does in fact take over, or the team's play is taken over by the veterans is yet to be seen, but one can hope to see a little bit of both when the puck drops. It is my genuine understanding though that this team is coming into the playoffs hungry, and they're ready to take on any challenge in hopes to start on a clean slate and engrave their names on the greatest trophy of all.
