  3. Tuesday, July 2nd, 2019: Tonight is the night before the draft. A lot of us prospects have been hanging out all week. We all arrived last Wednesday so we can be interviewed by teams and do athletic drills to show our athleticism! I'm staying in an AirBNB in Downtown since I'm a cheap ass. The rest of the guys, however, are staying in a very expensive hotel downtown. After everything finishes at around 4PM, we let our agents handle the rest of the work for the evening. Every single night, a certain group of us have been getting dinner and doing fun stuff around the city. Last night, we got dinner and went to the movies to watch Aladdin at 7:15 pm. Dude, Will Smith was awesome in it, like seriously, he was a god tier Genie. I'm not going to spoil the movie for you but seriously, if you enjoyed the cartoon Aladdin and you haven't seen the new one, go and watch it. Thank me later. Anyways, we went to this place called The Warehouse where they have $4 meals and I got to say, $4 Mac & Cheese is shockingly pretty good. Now I'm hungry again. I think I'm going to convince the guys to go tomorrow again. A lot of people haven't put me high on their draft list in their media mock drafts. I've seen myself going in the 4th round in one of them. Who cares what he thinks. Regardless, this has consumed me. I've been literally eyes glued to the phone when most of the guys I know haven't really thought about it much. How the hell are they so hands off? Pfft. May be I need to be more like them or more hands off? You only get drafted once though and I want to go extremely high in the draft. I'm just happy to say I'll be going to the VHL. I am very happy to go to the VHL. You just tend to toot your own horn a bit. Hell, whether I was taken in the 1st round or the 7th round; I'll work triple as hard to make the team and fans proud. I'm in this business to win and to win, you must work super hard. While I've been here, I've been hitting the apartment gym as well as doing the combine work. I'm not even phased man. I've been listening to Andre Agassi's book on Audible and it had me fired up. That man is the living embodiment of an athlete. The guy would get cortisone shots the night before a major tournament just so he could play. That is beyond dedication, that is legendary. Seriously, if you're an athlete looking for somebody to look up to, Andre Agassi is your man. Cheers to the draft. I wish the prospects, GM's, Commissioners and family a wonderful night. Tomorrow is our night, so let's go out and celebrate all of our hard work and accomplishments. Good luck to everyone Michael Johnson
  4. As the draft is coming up, we decided to get up and close with some of the rookies going into the VHL draft. We're here now with Michael Johnson of the Halifax 21st, projected to go in the 2nd round. What are your thoughts on the process of the draft as a whole? I think it's been an incredible experience. You gotta remember that this is something we've planned to do since the day we were born. Well at least some of us ! How was the draft interviews for you? Honestly, every team I've met with so far has been wonderful. I'm just lucky to be apart of any organization that picks me and I can't wait to get into the gym and start working on my game. Is there any pressure going into the VHL? Absolutely, but thats the pressure that I like to use to improve everyday. Like I said, the fact that I'm even here is a blessing in its self. Any suggestions for the prospects coming into the VHL draft next year? Just enjoy it, seriously. Just enjoy every single moment of the experience. It's also a weight on your shoulder until (I assume) is when your name gets called. Thank you Michael, and good luck! Thank you!

FWIW I think Guns N Roses would be considered classic rock before the others...  the others largely were famous 5-10 years after them

  7. Since it's my first week as the AGM of Halifax, I'll be answering all the questions 1. What do you think about getting your careers started with the 21st? I'm so proud to say I got to play for the 21st. This team was super fun to play with throughout the season. Everyone was a hoot! 2. Any opinions on teams at the VHL level that you may want to play for? If you don't know any, thats totally fine. To be honest, I want to play for the team that has enough faith in me to draft me. 3. What's your long term goal on the VHL forums? I hope I can just bring some positivity and energy to the community. 4. What are your kong term goals? Cups, HOF, etc? I want a cup. At least one. 5. Favorite NHL hockey team? Vancouver Canucks 6. Which teammate do you feel you have had the best chemistry with so far? Well, I got on really great with a lot of people. If I had to choose, it would probably be Acyd and Thorvald for me. Both great guys but the entire team is very high on my list. 7. Which team did you enjoy beating last season? Mexico City Kings, easily. 8. Are you staying down in the VHLM a season or going straight up? I'm going straight up since I'm past the 200 TPE limit. 9. What was cool to do when you were a kid but not as a "grown up"? Being picked 1st for a pick up game of soccer. Nobody does that anymore lmao 10. What genre of music do you enjoy listening to? I love hiphop and RNB. I've also been getting into some EDM as well.

  9. I'm just going to quickly state that I appreciate you setting this up. Anyways, on to the questions! How would you describe your VHLM experience? Incredible. I had an amazing time in Halifax. The Locker room was incredible and I wish nothing but the best to the rest of the guys on the team. We had some incredible times together and I can't thank them enough. Good luck guys! How would you describe your play this season? I wasn't particularly proud of my play. I think I could've been better but unfortunately I wasn't but I know I can improve. How would you describe your excitement leading up to the VHL Draft? I'm so excited just to be apart of the festivities and to see which team I end up on. I'm excited for Wednesday. Around what pick range do you expect to go and why? I think I'll be in the 2nd round. I'm not sure though to be honest. Theres just so many deserved players in this draft. Who knows?! If you wanted General Managers to know one thing about you, what would it be? I'm extremely determined. I want to come out firing and I want to show the league how incredible I can be.
  10. June 29, 2019: My journey in the VHLM is coming to an end as a player. Earlier this week, I was appointed as the Assistant General Manager of Halifax. So, while my journey as a player in the VHLM is ending, its my time to start a new journey in the management team. It was announced the other day that I would be replacing Acyd Burn as he is taking up a General Manager role in Ottawa. I'm honoured that I was even considered for the position. I'm also super proud for one of my best friends is getting the job up in Ottawa. Anyways, I called my parents and informed them of the new position I'm taking in Halifax and they were actually very worried about my work-life balance. They mentioned that my lifestyle as an athlete was already difficult as is, now taking on the role in management on top of maintaining my previous lifestyle. It was tough, this past season as a goalie. A thought most people haven't had is that goalies only have 1 spot, we don't take shifts in games. We're fighting for our spot. Currently, in some draft rankings, I'm in the top 5 for goalies and I didn't get more starts over my counterpart. In fact, deservedly, he deserved splitting the starts with me. He's also in the top 5 for goalies. We were both fighting for our place, we were both deserving of our opportunity. This is the problem with a position that only has 1 player for it, you have to really show you deserve it otherwise you don't get to play at all. You make one mistake and that could be the reason you don't play. I say this as if it's not something I expected coming in here. I knew I had to pour everything into myself to even play for Halifax. I'm just glad I got to and I'm proud to say I learned a lot this season. I statistically didn't play well at all this season. I'm not proud of how I played at all, granted this is the first year I played in a mens league. I've always been playing in youth leagues and it was a breeze. However, this was another level of play completely. I had never been hit by a player before, well at least that hard. I'm just not proud of my self really. I think I could've played 10x better than what I did. I didn't get across fast enough, I didn't make myself big enough on certain shots. I'm just, ugh, idk. I believe in myself. Sometimes we have down years. I got this, I'm ready for the team thats going to draft me. I'm ready to take on the VHL. Fine, I didn't have the best of seasons, but I am going to be better and I'm going to make sure of it. I'm going to make sure that whoever drafts me will be proud of me. This won't break me.
