Spence King reacted to Beketov in New Addition to the Commish Team
    Hello all,

It seems this old man is rather good at going through the help, since I joined the blue team I've seen at least 5 different commishes come and go. Am I cursed? Who knows. What I do know is that the commish team historically runs best as a three headed beast and with @Quik officially moving into the light blue realm that means we need a new head on this hydra to join @bigAL and I.

So, we discussed it, and came to the most natural conclusion that it's high time @Josh gets called up to the "big leagues" since he's been pretty much batting in them for awhile now. Does this metaphor still make sense? I'm not really sure. What I am sure of is that we appreciate all the time Quik put into the league and hope to see Josh do great things in the role as I'm sure he will! So, say hello to your new antichrist Commissioner Josh!

Spence King reacted to Hogan in Hulk Hogan 2 Traded
"With the 10th overall pick the Philadelphia Reapers are proud to select Hulk Hogan 2." The crowd erupted in cheers as the future star walked towards the stage to join his new teams. The only thing louder than the crowd was an announcement over the speakers.
"We have a trade to announce"
Hogan 2 took the first step on to the stage before creeping to a stop, his ears perked up as he watched the VHLM commissioner's lips talk into the microphone.
"The Yukon Rush have traded their Season 82 first round pick and this years fourth round pick for Hulk Hogan 2 and Shawn Glade V"
The crowd erupted even louder than before, Yukon's draft team rushed onto the stage with a new jersey in hand, this one featuring the name Hogan 2 in bold lettering. Hogan 2 finished his step on the stage, shaking hands with the Reaper's GM and whispering something in his ear. Before continuing on to his new team and throwing on his new jersey, raising his hands up high to the crowd.

The draft team on stream were caught off guard by this, stating "Hogan traded to Yukon?' Followed by "Is this true, is that factual? Oh its true! He was just traded to Yukon."
Not many had expected this trade other than those behind the scenes, we caught up with Hogan for a brief interview following this trade.

"How do you feel about joining Yukon?" Asked Marshall Willins, our reporter.
"Well brother I'll tell you one thing, this team's looking great and we're ready to roll and make an immediate impact on this league." Hogan 2 responded, before the crowd grew louder, separating him and Willins.

The Yukon Rush added multiple other first round talents including Harkat Mulds, Kyosti Karjalainen, Zaza Colors and Maximus Decimus Meridius, along with many other talents. They are shaping up to be early Founders Cup favourites.

Your pick counts, that was just your first skip. I know it was only 30 minutes late, but as I said, we have low flexibility this season because of how late VHFL started. That counts as skip #1, just avoid skip #2.

Spence King reacted to JB123 in My First (And Likely Only) VHLM Mock Draft! (S80)
    S80 VHLM Mock Draft
    By: JB

Now that the Founder's Cup has been awarded (Congrats Miami) and the VHLM draft lottery has decided the order in which the bottom four teams will pick, it is time for my S80 VHLM mock draft, my first and likely only. And I say this because: San Diego has no firsts this season; so I will not be exposing our strategy or the players we want to draft. In the future when we do have 1st(s), that will be impossible.

I have no inside information on any of these picks; rather this is purely based on the players available, and team needs. Ready? Let's get into it.

    #1 - Ottawa Lynx
    The Red Menace, G
    TPE: 152
    Ranked: T-4th
    Former Team:
Drafting arguably the best goaltender in the league heading into next season is just too good to pass up. I almost went with a forward like Brendan Marner or Kyosti Karjalainen, however there are a lot of forwards available in the first round, especially considering that Ottawa has both picks five and six. In 12 games with Philly, The Red Menace went 7-3-1 with a .906 save percentage and stellar 2.34 goals-against average, along with 3 shutouts. If selected, look for The Red Menace to be a star goaltender for the Lynx.

    #2 - Houston Bulls
    Kyosti Karjalainen, RW
    TPE: 174
    Ranked: 2nd
    Former Team:
With the second overall pick, I see new Bulls GM MattyIce taking Karjalainen. With Yukon this past season, Karjalainen managed to put up 37 goals and 35 assists for 72 points in 72 games, leading the Rush. Karjalainen would give Houston an impact player on offense, who will only build on a point-per-game season.

    #3 - Minnesota Storm
    Nils Godlander, RW
    TPE: 165
    Ranked: 3rd
    Former Team:
At three I see Minnesota running it back with a waiver signing this past season, Nils Godlander. In 32 games, Godlander scored 13 goals and added 16 assists for 29 points. Recently getting the job of assistant general manager in Mexico City, Godlander would be a solid, safe pick that offers familiarity for both parties.

    #4 - Yukon Rush
    Brendan Marner, LW
    TPE: 179
    Ranked: 1st
    Former Team:
At fourth Yukon gets a steal with Brendan Marner, the top player in the draft TPE-wise. In 62 games with the Marlins, Marner scored a goal and 8 assists for 9 points. In the playoffs Marner had a goal in 5 contests. However, those totals are due to improve greatly with more ice time and development. Marner would likely slot in on the first line for the Rush in their quest for their second cup in three seasons.

    #5 - Ottawa Lynx
    Finn Davis, C
    TPE: 144
    Ranked: 8th
    Former Team:
With their second pick in the top 5, Ottawa selects the best center available, Finn Davis. Davis is primed for a breakout season, even more than this past season when they scored 75 points (31 goals, 44 assists) in 72 games with the Storm. Davis gives the Lynx a #1 center, which is important considering they don't have any centers on their roster as of now.

    #6 - Ottawa Lynx
    Juice Box, D
    TPE: 142
    Ranked: T-9th
    Former Team:
Right back on the clock at #6, the Lynx go with a defender this time, Juice Box. In 72 games with the Wild in Season 79, Box put up 62 points, including 25 goals on the back end. Box also blocked 122 shots, 95 hits and 7 game-winning goals. In the postseason, Box had 9 points (1 goal, 8 assists) in 11 games. Box would further bolster Ottawa's blueline.

    #7 - Yukon Rush
    Harkat Mulds, C
    TPE: 142
    Ranked: T-9th
    Former Team:
I don't see Yukon passing on Mulds, a center whom they signed late in the season. With no players up front yet, Mulds gives them a #1 center for their cup run. In 9 games with the Rush, Mulds posted 7 points (3 goals, 4 assists). Look for the duo of Mulds and Marner to light up the league for Yukon.

    #8 - Houston Bulls
    Nico Pearce, LW
    TPE: 152
    Ranked: T-4th
    Former Team:
Somehow still on the board at eight, Houston gets a steal of a pick in Pearce. In 10 games with the 21st last season, Pearce scored 14 points (6 goals, 8 assists), and added 6 more (3 goals, 3 assists) in 5 playoff games. Coming out of an agency that includes elite defender Alex Letang, Pearce gives the Bulls a dynamic duo up front with Karjalainen.

    #9 - Mexico City Kings
    Matt Avens, LW
    TPE: 151
    Ranked: 6th
    Former Team:
Patience is a virtue, right? No need to move up; just like Pearce fell into the Bulls lap, so does Avens, this time to the Kings. In 72 games last season with Saskatoon, Avens scored 27 goals and dished 41 apples for 68 points. Avens added 8 points, including 6 goals, in 11 postseason games. Avens gives Mexico City a terrific scoring threat.

    #10 - Halifax 21st
    Zaza Colors, RW
    TPE: 146
    Ranked: 7th
    Former Team:
Unable to bring back both Pearce and Colors, Halifax does manage to pick Colors back up. A late waiver signing, Colors scored 7 goals and 7 assists for 14 points in 10 games. In the playoffs they produced 5 points (3 goals, 2 assists) in 5 games. Ready to take the next step, Colors would lead Halifax in S80.

    #11 - Minnesota Storm
    Cameron Elsby, D
    TPE: 119
    Ranked: 15th
    Former Team:
With their second pick of the first round, Minnesota takes the best defender available, Cameron Elsby. Even though they have the second pick of the second round, 14, it is just too risky to wait and hope Elsby isn't taken. In 10 games with the Mississauga Hounds this past season, Elsby didn't score a point but blocked 8 shots and had 14 hits. During the Hounds' run to the Final, Elsby had 2 assists, 12 shot blocks and 26 hits. I expect Elsby to have a big year with more responsibility.

    #12 - Yukon Rush
    Austin Towbaker, RW
    TPE: 125
    Ranked: T-12th
    Former Team:
I was tempted to say Yukon takes a defender here, but considering they pick at 16, 19 and 22 I think they complete their top line. Towbaker adds scoring and solid all-around play as well as chemistry with Karjalainen, as they are both on the Brigade in the Junior Showcase. In 56 games with Ottawa this past season, Towbaker put up 22 goals and 19 assists for 41 points. A top line of Marner, Mulds and Towbaker could and would be deadly.

Good luck to all those involved in this season's dispersal draft, it should be interesting to say the least. I did the best I could with these predictions, but who knows how it'll turn out. There could very well be trades, reaches, drops and the like. Thank you for reading!

The Stage Is Set: The S79 Continental Cup Preview
     Seattle Bears VS. Malmo Nighthawks

After a glorious pair of Conference Finals that both went the distance, the Seattle Bears and the Malmo Nighthawks emerged victorious in their respective Game 7s to earn the right to compete for the fabled Continental Cup! The S79 edition of the Cup Final features a rematch of the S68 Cup Final (which will be discussed in further detail below) and winners of two of the last four Cups. This is the first time since S73 that the top regular season team in both conferences has made it to the Final.

As always, VSN breaks it down for all you VHL junkies who are eagerly awaiting the curtains on the league’s grandest stage to open.

Before we continue, VSN would like to congratulate the Warsaw Predators and the Los Angeles Stars on fighting down to the last buzzer and providing such entertaining hockey! The Stars seesawed with the Bears all series, alternating wins until Seattle prevailed 4-2 in the seventh game. Malmo jumped out to a 3-1 series lead before Warsaw’s stars took back control with two huge wins to tie up the series before the Nighthawks tightened up in Game 7 to win 3-1.

And now, we set the stage…

    The Teams

    Seattle

For a little over a decade, the Seattle Bears have been the VHL’s model franchise for playoff consistency. GM Blake Campbell @Banackock has nurtured a seemingly unstoppable groove of drafting and developing stars and filling holes left by departing stars with more stars thus creating a desirable culture and an impeccable record in the post-season. The S79 Cup Final will be the Bears third in a row and 7th Final in 12 seasons. Their five Continental Cup wins alone are more than any other team has even made the Final in that span (Helsinki, Malmo – 3). A busy off-season that saw the acquisition of two-time league MVP and leading scorer, Andrew Su @Da_Berr, and the signing of this season’s playoff goal leader, Jungkok @tfong, built the foundation for Seattle’s success thus far. The Bears roared into the postseason with a league-best nine-game winning streak.

    Malmo

Conversely, the Nighthawks haven’t been able to build momentum from their two Cup Final appearances, a sweeping loss in S68 at the hands of Seattle and their first Cup Championship in S75. Mediocracy followed and even with HOFer defenseman Condor Adrienne @OrbitingDeath  leading the way, sustained success has been hard to come by. But this looks different somehow. In adding savvy veterans to a smartly-drafted young core over the last couple of seasons including winning the Gunnar Odinsson @BOOM sweepstakes in free agency in the off-season and acquiring blueliner Scotty Kaberle @fromtheinside early on, GM Christopher James @hylands has built a dynamic and explosive team that easily won the Victory Cup with the league’s best record and is just entering their prime. While Malmo’s focus is on being one of the top offenses in VHL history, there is also a commitment to defense and a rock-solid man between the pipes who isn’t afraid of a little rubber.

    The Rivalry

While the Bears’ and Nighthawks’ rivalry is a young one it is rich with intrigue. Their only other playoff battle was in the S68 Continental Cup Final where a soon-to-retire Matt Thompson, one of the greatest players in Seattle’s history, signed with and led the upstart Nighthawks to their first Final in only their third season. Despite Thompson’s effort (leading the playoffs in goals and points), Seattle stymied Malmo in a four-game sweep, denying Thompson the chance to leave the VHL a champion.

A reverse situation is playing out in S79 as Jungkok, Seattle’s free agent prize, who played 205 games with Malmo and helped them win their only Championship in S75, is in his final season and currently leads the playoffs in goals and points.

How this scenario plays out remains to be seen.  Seattle is the more experienced team but Malmo won all four regular season tilts with the Bears by a combined score of 13-5.

    The Offense

Malmo gets the edge here as they produced 314 goals during the regular season, the 5th-best total in VHL history since S20. Gunnar Odinsson had one of the best performances in recent memory with 57 goals and 133 points. Brendan Telker @Telkster actually led the team with 58 goals with three other forwards scoring 27 or more goals. They scored the most power play goals in the league with 99 and were 2nd in PP% with 26.54%. Malmo’s depth has propelled them to the Final with ten players contributing seven or more points with Odinsson’s 21 leading the team. Of concern to the Nighthawks, is their goals for in the playoffs, understandingly yet disturbingly, have dropped from 4.36 to 3.31 over a full goal-per-game and their power play has only managed nine goals for a 17.31% clip.

Seattle’s offense was potent and diverse throughout the regular season. They produced the third-best offense with 283 goals and had five different players score 33 or more but with no one scoring more than 41 (Andrew Su). Battle-tested Valtteri Vaakanainen @Jubo led the team with 97 points. They tied two other teams for the 2nd-most power play goals with 88 but were sixth in efficiency at 23.16%. Like Malmo, their depth is their strength with nine player having scored eight or more points and seven have double digits compared to Malmo’s three. But their goals-per-game has gone up slightly in the playoffs and are the top team in that regard at just over a four-goal-a-game clip. They’ve scored 15 goals with the man advantage behind only Warsaw and are operating at 22.06%.

    The Defense

The two Final’s combatants are even more closely matched defensively. During the regular season, Seattle allowed the second-least amount of goals (219) and had the second-best penalty kill (80.98%). Malmo was third and only slightly behind in both those categories (225 GA, 80.31% PK). On route to the Final, Seattle has been the stingier team allowing 2.92 goals against to Malmo’s 3.15 and the Bears’ penalty kill has been 83.33% efficient while the Nighthawks have only killed off 78.57% of the opposition’s power plays. Malmo also needs to stop giving up so many shots to the tune of 42.5 a game. Seattle is only allowing 35.25 per game. The Bears’ defense corps is a more veteran and experienced group with a higher offensive ceiling, while the Nighthawks employ a high-energy and effective system that utilizes their underrated blueliners’ speed and youth.

    The Goaltending

These two Russian S75 draftees (Rara Rasputin @Victor, 16th OV, Artem Tretiak @Molholt, 39th OV) are set to match each other save for save where the smallest misstep can cost their team a win. They have different styles but produce similar results. Rasputin relies on his size to swallow up rebounds thus resulting in fewer chances for the opposition. Tretiak plays a more athletic, reactionary style that produces more shooting chances but more often than not he stops the next shot as well. Both goalies have had brilliant seasons with Rasputin showing a slightly higher GAA in both the regular and postseason while Tretiak has posted the higher save percentages largely due to Malmo’s high-octane offense allowing more shots (he had 50+ saves in three out of seven games against Warsaw). Rasputin already has a Cup and has played in over twice as many playoff contests as his counterpart but Tretiak has come up clutch when the Nighthawks have needed him most.

    The Talking Points

Jungkok/Seattle vs. Malmo: Who will gain more momentum from playing each other? Jungkok facing his old team with which he won a Cup in S75? Or will revenge be a dish served cold as Malmo avenges their S68 sweep?

Odinsson vs Jungkok: Jungkok is on pace to have one of the most electrifying postseason goal totals in VHL history already with 14 while Odinsson should have another gear. Who will provide the most offense?

Secondary Scoring: Both teams have players who need to step up to their regular season production. Malmo’s Muffbeav @.sniffuM and Seattle’s Vaakanainen haven’t been bad but they should be contributing more.

Rock’em Sock’em: Seattle’s Isabella Campbell @Banackock and Malmo’s captain, Druss Deathwalker @animal74 love to mix it up. Both lead their teams in playoff hits and penalty minutes but are also contributing on the score sheet. Who will have the larger impact or will they neutralize each other?

Rookies Rule: Malmo has four rookies who have been utilized and chipped in while Seattle has two. This is the biggest test of their lives. Who will step up? Who will disappear?

The Nighthawks and the Bears are fairly evenly matched so winning the Cup will come down to special teams, mental mistakes, drive and heart. Seattle is looking to cement their franchise legacy with another mini-dynasty employing a veteran-laded roster. Malmo wants to prove the regular season was no fluke and start a dynasty of their own. The VHL’s grandest stage is set. The players are in the wings ready to play their parts. Stay tuned, folks! The show is about to begin!

With the VHLE starting its operations in the upcoming season, their commissioners had to hire a whole new set of General Managers to manage their six teams in their inaugural season. @diamond_ace and I would like to congratulate the six VHLE GMs and wish them good luck in this exciting new project, especially the five that graduated directly from the VHLM: @Advantage, @InstantRockstar, @KaleebtheMighty, @rjfryman, @thadthrasher. Thanks a lot to the five of you for your time helping our new member base in the VHLM! Oh, and good luck to @FrostBeard as well, the sole VHLE GM not directly graduating from the VHLM. The new league should have some nasty competition from the get go, considering the level of these inaugural managers.

In other news, @Zetterberg has also informed us a bit earlier in the season that he would be stepping down from his role with the Mississauga Hounds at the conclusion of this season. Once again, let me thank you for your work at the head of the team and for everything you have done in regards to recruitment and retention in the last couple of seasons.

For those at home counting along with us, yes, this means that d_a and I are looking to hire SIX new General Managers in the next week or two, in order to fill all of our vacancies. As of the end of these playoffs, all of Houston, Miami, Mississauga, New Mexico, Philadelphia and San Diego won't have a GM anymore.

It’s an exciting time for the VHL! There are so many job opportunities to be had across the VHLM with a few more possibly in the VHLE. I’d like to open up another one with this thread for the Istanbul Red Wolves AGM!

What I’m looking for is an AGM who acts as a locker room presence for the team, someone who’s especially engaging. Additionally, you’re my idea guy; I’ll be pinging you with ideas on lines, new locker room things, and anything else pertaining to the team. You’ll have a pretty active say in how things are run, because I love my AGMs 😁. Finally, you’ll be writing press conferences and helping me with lines in the off chance I’m busy with work or other things and can’t get them in.

If you feel like you would be a good fit for the job, apply below! I’ll be looking forward to talking to you all who apply, and can’t wait to add another important addition to the history of the Istanbul Red Wolves!

(also you would be the first AGM in Istanbul history, so that’s pretty neat 👍🏻)
