Hey guys its me Hooperorama#2273. I made my player who is a goalie and entered this community with no knowledge what so ever !  I just made a goalie since very few chose it.
I only knew how street hockey was played. When i started  exploring the discord, people started coming forward and helping  me! Especially , my new friend if not mentor ,  Gorlab.
He helped on gaining tpe. , introduced to new people in the community. The community is one of the most friendliest. Since i joined mid- playoffs time, i will
    be going through the draft.

For all the Gms in VHLM who will be drafting here is my message:
i am an active and a cool guy, willing to help anyone or learn from others. The only disadvantage in me is that i do not know how the game works
other than that i am always there for nay assistance. I am studying more about the game , so there will be no long term damage. For any Gm's
who will draft me ill be happy

    The First 20 Games

It was throughout the first 20 games of my season that a meme was created in the Saskatoon locker room, the meme being that Brown was not capable of scoring a goal. In game 3 he recorded an assist, but didn’t record his first goal until game 20 of the regular season. Brown was moved to the first line in an attempt to get him his first goal, and when he was moved back to the third line teammate @Boragina famously said, “Please don’t put me back with the curse Timothy Brown”.

The curse was also the inspiration for this meme I made:

    The Next 52 Games

The rest of the season was very productive, with Brown putting up 20 goals and 18 assists for a total of 40 points on the season, while playing the majority of the season on the third line. The only Saskatoon rookie with more points was Jay Jones, the second line center for most of the season. It was during this part of the season that Brown became a player that was actually capable of putting up points.

    Special Teams

It appears that Brown shined on special teams this season, as almost half of his total goals were on special teams. In fact, his first goal of the season was a shorthanded goal against Philadelphia. With 8 powerplay goals and the lone shorthanded goal, 9 out of his 21 goals were not recorded at even strength for Brown.

    Hitting and +/-

Almost nobody on Saskatoon had anything added to their checking stats. Brown’s checking was 60, so this is why he had 144 hits on the year, good for third on the team. +/- left something to be desired, however, as it was -8. I suspect this had something to do with the high number of special teams minutes Brown had this year.

    The Playoffs

Brown had a pretty good playoffs, with a goal and 4 assists in the 6 games played against second place Yukon. He was a major force on the Wild’s offense with a total of 20 shots and 13 hits. Saskatoon gave the Yukon Rush a pretty good run, winning games three and four but ultimately failing to win the series. This proved to be the biggest series the Rush had to face en route to the finals on the other hand, since Vegas only managed to beat them once.

    The Offseason

The offseason will be an exciting one for Timothy Brown for sure, as he has his first draft to look forward to. After all of my updates for this week go through, Brown should have the second highest TPE for any player eligible for the VHLM draft. I have him projected to go 2nd or 3rd, but it’s been pointed out to me that he could drop due to the high need for goalies and defensemen this draft. Meanwhile, Brown is being double drafted. He should be drafted somewhere in the early second round of the VHL draft as well. I’m hoping that he gets drafted to a rebuilder, so he would be able to grow with the team as they improve in the coming seasons.

Saskatoon, Saskatchewan - Following an exciting playoff series, the Saskatoon Wild have been eliminated from the VHLM playoffs. The underdogs against a 2nd place Yukon Rush team that featured 5th and 6th placed scorers Vin Calia and Alex Armstrong, as well as save percentage leader Nicolas Fomba, the Rush proved too much to handle.

It was not without a good effort by the Wild, however, as they took the Rush to 6 games in a series that some predicted to be a sweep. In the final game Bobby Wyman performed admirably for Saskatoon, recording two assists and the 2nd star in the heartbreaking 3-2 loss. The Wild led the game 2-1 until 16:22 in the 3rd period, when Vin Calia tied it up. This would be the last goal of regulation, sending the game into overtime.

At 8:11 in overtime, Gary Neal received a minor penalty for tripping, and with less than a minute left on the powerplay Jack John capitalized. John’s first goal of the playoffs sent the Rush to the second round.

The Wild now have the offseason to look forward to. With so many first round picks and veterans Neal, Frence, Wyman, Alkamino, Komarov and Gardner returning to the team Saskatoon is projected to be a top team next year.

In Season 71 of the VHLM, the Saskatoon Wild surprised many by putting up a respectable 73 points, good for 7th place in the league. Here we will be taking a look at some of the players that made it possible.

LW - Gary Neal: Every team has their star forward, and in Saskatoon’s case it was Gary Neal. Neal has both scoring potential and defensive awareness, making him an important special teams player for the Wild. His 116 points in the regular season put him at 14th in scoring, and his 461 shots on net were good for 4th in the league. Neal’s 59 goals put him in first for Saskatoon skaters, and 5th overall. Neal was known for having big games, with 6 hat tricks on the year.

LW - Kazimir Komarov: The Russian winger arguably had a better season than leading scorer Gary Neal, as Komarov played for most of the season on the 2nd line. Kazimir was also a major threat on the powerplay, putting up 14 on the season. However, one of the best things about his game this year was his playmaking. He accounted for 63 assists, a team best. Komarov’s 112 points put him at 18th in scoring league wide.

RW - Adam Frence: Team captain Adam Frence was best known for his goofy antics. In one particular instance, he mistakenly ordered 1000 cases of Authentic red wine from Paris. His wine helped the Wild to both celebrate wins, and cope with losing. Frence put up pretty good numbers this year, with 34 goals, 57 assists and 91 points. His 91 points put him at number 3 for team scoring.

C - Cassius Gardner: Saskatoon’s weakest position at forward was centre, but Cassius stepped up and played reasonably well. Gardner was noted for having a strange fear of updating. In 72 games this season, he recorded 19 goals and 44 assists. This total of 63 points was 5th on the team and nearly good enough for a point per game.

D - Bobby Wyman: Number one defenseman Bobby Wyman was an absolute goon for Saskatoon this season. His total of 278 hits on the season was good enough to tie for first. Meanwhile he had 141 blocked shots, displaying his defensive awareness. Bobby would also frequently appear on the scoresheet, with 15 goals and 53 points. One concern about his game was the amount of PIM he recorded with 138, placing him third in the league.

C - Jay Jones: The number two centre for Saskatoon was Jay Jones, an undrafted S72 player. Playing the majority of the season on the second line, Jones’ point totals were less than half of his teammates Frence and Komarov. Regardless, Jay recorded 13 goals, 29 assists and 42 points, respectable numbers for a rookie skater. Jones was not particularly known for being a special teams player, but his 5 on 5 numbers were much better than other rookie teammates Brown and Krestanovich.

RW - Keith Krestanovich: Keith started off the season pretty well and then fell off a bit in the later half. Despite this, he was a big part of Saskatoon’s powerplay due to his goal scoring abilities. Krestanoivch had 13 goals, of which 7 were on the powerplay. He also had 11 assists on the year, for a grand total of 24 points. The main concern about Krestanovich’s game was his 5 on 5 play, as his +/- at the end of the season was -18, which was the worst on the team.

a_Ferk got a reaction from McWolf in a_Ferk's VHL Recruitment (Theme Week)
Like many others have already stated this Theme Week, I think the issue with recruiting new users is keeping them here. As a relatively new member myself, the thing that kept me around was the community. I made some friends immediately in Saskatoon, as we have a really nice GM and AGM, and our captain is really cool. However, I think there are some things we could improve on to help improve the experience for new users.

The main thing for retaining members is making them feel welcome immediately, in my eyes. Whenever Saskatoon signs a new player I make sure to reach out to them, either through personal messages in VHL or through discord. When I first joined my create a player page was buzzing. I had a bunch of people commenting, and offers from several different teams. This was the moment when I knew I would stick around for a good while. I sometimes see other users with barely any welcome messages or offers, and think that could be sort of discouraging for new users. Back in March when I first joined the VHL discord, I also noticed that I would frequently be talked over and ignored by some of the other members. Although I don’t know if this was because I was a noob, or if it was just because I’m annoying.

One possible cause for the lack of interest in some of the new players is that there is an abundance of wingers in the VHLM. I remember that there was a warning for a large number of goalies when I first created my player, so I think that there should be some sort of warning for wingers when new users first create their player to combat this. During my player creation, wingers and centres showed up as the lowest population of players. This can be misleading though, since the needs of the VHLM and the VHL are very different. While the VHL has many good defensemen, and goalied the VHLM has a shortage.

On the recruitment side of things I think that the reddit recruiting will always be effective to some degree. It’s not like we’ll ever run out of users to recruit, because new members do join the hockey subreddits and we may reach members who didn’t see the previous posts. I saw some users saying that the reddit method is kind of dying, but I think that we could reduce the amount we use reddit to fight it. If we only recruit every other week on reddit and alternate some other form of recruiting it could be more effective.

A possible recruiting method I thought of is to use a site such as fiverr to get outside help to recruit. If you don’t know what fiverr is, it’s a website where you can hire freelance services to do pretty much anything you want them to do. Fox example, if we wanted to hire someone to make a VHL recruitment video professionally, we could do that. Heck, we could hire someone to stand on a street corner and hold up a sign.

I hope my suggestions can be somewhat helpful for recruiting, to help more people find this great sim league and stick around.
