Intro
Moscow have made 3 deals over the week that have made for a interesting start to the offseason. The up and coming Menace have made some tweaks to bolster their team into a definite ‘on paper contender’. We will have to wait a little over a week or so to see how these trades are working out on the ice.

To be honest, I didn’t see this trade coming at all. Or at least, not this type of deal. I will try and dissect it in order to make some more sense of it. Moscow gave up some value pieces back, while not hurting the current core too much. Luke Thornton (mid first rounder. looks like the biggest piece Moscow gave up, but necessary in order to go for the cup.  It was obvious that Moscow was lacking wingers, and I’m sure Lahtinen wasn’t the only player that Victor considered. I think it’s a matter of, the right player popped up for the right price. Yes the centre position may not be ideal. But it may have come down to him over say an equally skilled winger, yet the price for the skilled winger may have been much more. This isn’t the first time that Moscow have had an abundance of centres. Even my own player (Nate Telker) got 50 points as a 2nd line centre playing on the wing. Now obviously Gritty being there helped a lot with that season, but it shows it’s achievable.

This seems like a fairly simple deal that just gives Moscow that extra depth that never hurts on the wing. This essentially covers the loss of Yamazuki from the first deal. After seeing this deal, you could really see the forward lines come together like The Beatles. Lahtinen will man the 1st line probably with guys like either Gino, or Brandt, or even Calia could rotate through the wing. The 2nd line will most likely be lead by Telker through the middle, while possibly Moreau and Calia could also play on that line as well.

All three players in this deal were recently drafted in S74. These 2 for 1 draft pick trades usually means that the team that got 1 back, had there eye on someone so they made a move. That someone for Victor was RW Zouzouambe. He may be a late round pick, but still has all the potential to become a great 2nd line winger, or even more if his TPE rate goes up. It’s a deal that makes sense for the future, with no end in sight to how many good centres Moscow will have years down the road, it never hurts to have some depth prospects in the system for positions you are weaker on.

I had a lot of fun looking at these trades and picking them apart. I haven’t been this excited for a season probably since the year after Moscow won the cup and was going for the back to back. Next week I’ll be putting up my annual team analysis, where we will dive into some H2H matchups against the other top contenders in the league, and see how Moscow compares. Looking at the S73 Season Schedule shows that this week is theme week! Before I get to that, the schedule also shows that next Monday, August 17th, at 3PM EST is the trade deadline. As usual, this means that Monday will also be the first day for people to create for the S75 VHL Draft.
 
As for theme week, as we here at VHL HQ always keep an eye to the future, we thought it would be a fun idea for people to spotlight Future VHL Creates, whether they are a Media Spot about your potential next create, or a Graphic for someone else's future player create, or a Podcast discussing builds you'd like to try out in the future, there are no limits so long as the main focus of your Point Task is of a future VHL create (if doing a graphic, there must be some form of identification that it was created for this league).
 
Completing a theme week PT, as always, will allow you to claim a Doubles Week, worth 6 Uncapped TPE. In order to claim, after claiming your Theme Week PT, simply link this thread directly (there is no need to post a claim post in here) when claiming (Claim Uncapped > Other > Doubles Week).
 
As always, if you have already submitted a Point Task this week, or have a multi-week Media Spot with claims remaining, you may still post your themed PT this week to claim the uncapped TPE, while claiming the capped portion on your next available claim week (i.e. if @Victor has 2 weeks remaining on a MS claim for this week and next, he may post a theme week submission this week and claim the uncapped TPE immediately, while claiming the capped portion the week of June 22nd). Also, any member with a single job that pays 6+, or has a combined Job Pay that is greater than 6 TPE, may claim the Theme Week bonus, so long as they continue to complete their work for the week.
 
Other notes to be aware of:
Only players who are S74 or older are eligible to claim the S73 Theme Week Bonus Anyone who completed the EFL/SBA Theme week last week may claim it for the VHL Theme Week Bonus this week If they already claimed their theme week PT last week, they will need to submit a new PT claim for the 6 Capped TPE If you are in the EFL/SBA and did not complete their theme week, you may claim your VHL Theme Week on their sites for the theme bonus they gave out last week.

1. How many Hall of Famers won multiple Founder's Cups? 
Five. CAL G, Volodymyr Rybak, Tom Slaughter in the space of about 10 seasons in the 20s and 30s, and then Rhett DeGrath and Ay Ay Ron more recently. All but Slaughter actually won two Founder's Cup each before going straight up to the VHL.

2. From S68-S70, Smitty Werbenjagermanjensen won 3 straight Sterling Labatte trophies. Who was the most recent defenseman to accomplish the same feat? (Credit and 1 uncapped TPE to @flyersfan1453)
Historically, the Labatte was dominated by 3-, 4- and even one 5-time winners but since S40 and Smitty's third win in S70, such individual dominance actually became quite rare. It was Conner Low who won his fifth straight Labatte in S40 and no one had even managed as many as three in a row until Smitty.

1. I think just play more cohesively and continue to have each others backs.
2. I mean a little bit, as the captain we all look to him when we aren't playing our best. But, the blame isn't only on him, we need to all rally together and continue to improve.
3. I can't say to much regarding that, as I myself am a new player. But, it's been great to see him play and show that he was deserving of that top pick.
4. For me it's between the Kings and the Dragons, I really like the exotic feel they both have.
5. The Wild fs, I don't pay too much to hockey but since i'm from MN they're the default.
6. Being born in MN it was always something that was there, and eventually it became part of my life and something I am proud to play professionally

As of today, claims made under the James Platts Welfare Program or VHL Pension Plan can be automatically claimed on the Portal in a similar fashion to Practice Facility. These claims are not required to be approved by updater's and TPE will be awarded immediately. 
 
Note: The Portal automatically determines pension eligibility by looking at a user's past and current players. Some older, returning members may find they are only offered 4 TPE - this is due to previous players not existing on the Portal or not being linked to their user account. If this is the case, contact an admin or commissioner and we will manually approve you for the pension plan. 
 
Claims made under the VHL Partnership Plan with SBA and EFL are not quite as automated, but a post in a weekly welfare thread is no longer required. These claims can be made directly in the Portal by using the new "Affiliate PT" option under "Claim Capped" and linking to your PT on SBA or EFL. These claims will continue to be reviewed and approved by updater's.

At this time, there is no changes to the monthly Affiliate Check program and those will continue to require posting in a monthly thread.

Today 16 year old hockey phenom will be announcing the team he will be debuting his talent in the VHLM. While being a talent with equal on the ice, it is only equaled by eccentrics. Calling himself William Shakespeare II the young man is truly a conundrum. Speaking primarily in “Old English” and a thick accent; William is incredibly hard to understand. Reports have said that combined with his personalities issues this makes William difficult to play with.
 
Still considered the best player in the United Kingdom William has been scoring goals for fun in the minor leagues. Clearly needing a bigger platform VHLM scouts have been seen attending games recently. Growing VHL hype has begun to mount fast whispers of Mexico City became almost the assured landing spot but recent betting odds have swiftly shifted to a different team. It is time to find out whether the betters know something we don’t.
 
We will be providing a live translation of the press conference, apologies for any tardiness translating William can be incredibly difficult.

So that’s that William will be joining the San Diego Marlins under @InstantRockstar. As an analyst I feel like this is a good opportunity for William as San Diego provides a good space for him to mature as a player and a person. I think Ryan Schwarz @Enorama is a quality player that may take William under his wing. Players on the squad like Nathaniel N @NathanN and Mahin Ganeshathasan @Mahin2105 have been praised for their determination and work ethic traits that William largely lacks; hopefully through interacting with these players William will develop into the player he has the potential to be.
 
For San Diego expect a technically skilled player that can grab a goal but still has a ways to go before they are a finished product. But patience will be rewarded by a myriad of goals and flashing passes, along with nearly incomprehensible ramblings from a lunatic. If William wasn’t so good at hockey, he more than likely would be in an institution.
