What a run for the London United. Sure, it didn’t end in a finals appearance, or better, a Continental Cup, but it did show the league that we mean business, and that we are committed to a system of winning and more than just defensive lull.

This season we got an awards-worthy performance from Jesse Teno, who without, we would not be able to build our team around. We are very excited for the opportunity to pick up Teno’s contract for next season, and will be commencing discussions as soon as possible on an extension for the rest of their playing career. Having the backbone of our roster confirmed allows us the opportunity to be able to build our team in the manner that we do, and is core to our continued success moving forward.

We managed to assemble a top forward unit capable of keeping up with the scoring leaders across the league. Being able to rely on a dominant top unit performance won us many games this season, and put us in contention for many individual awards, had we closed out the season as anticipated. Molly the Cat, Leonard Triller and newcomer Wann Kerr all had career seasons, with Triller and the Cat crossing 100 points for the first time in their careers. With each of those players extended for next season already, we are hoping to see continued dominance by their unit moving forward.

The second forward unit was a variety of defined role players. Ivan Retoslav returned to the squad to end their career, and ran one of the most successful Penalty Kill units in the league alongside Thor Odinson. Sjin and Retoslav also manned the powerplay, alternating time as the 5th member of the unit, who also dwelled in the top portion of the league. Odinson got a sprinkle of time in the extra man unit as well, scoring some timely goals on the powerplay.

For the defense, it was all about the system. Strong 2-way play was a must, and it did not matter how much scoring ability each of them had, their job was to keep the puck out of our net, and away from Jesse Teno, to which they all succeeded greatly. Newcomer Lloyd Braun was the quarterback on our powerplay, and was a huge part of the success of that unit. Youngster Jack Jeckler split time with veterans Deron Nesbitt and Hunor Solyom on the penalty kill, and ate a ton of the even strength minutes, allowing Braun the opportunity to focus on their role. Seeing growth from Jeckler all season has been inspiring and they should be able to step into a much greater offensive role come next season.

Looking to next season, we want to congratulate Ivan Retoslav, Deron Nesbitt and Hunor Solyom on incredible careers, and we wish them a lifetime of happiness in their retirement. The team will begin immediately looking to fill these holes in the roster, and hope that they can remain a role model for players to come, as we look to restore this team to its championship glory.

Dom reacted to Ricer13 in Calgary Wranglers, End of an Era
    Hello friends,

I am officially announcing my retirement as General Manager of the Calgary Wranglers. There are a few reasons as to why I have made this decision and now is the best time to take a step back from this role to better spend my time in other areas of the league and in my personal life.

I hold a pretty high bar for myself when it comes to maintaining a certain level of activity for any locker room that I am in charge of. The day that became a chore is the day I knew it was time for a much needed break. I also live a super busy personal life and this has also made it harder to give the locker room my full attention.

There is nothing to worry about in terms of my participation in the league. I still very much enjoy and love being apart of this league. I will have better focus on my player and the locker room I’m apart of there. I have my moderation gig that I’ll have more time to focus on and one day I do plan on stepping back into a GM role because it truly is a passion of mine.

Lastly, thank you to all the GMs I have had a pleasure to work with since I’ve started, all the AGMs who have worked along side me over the seasons and the players who grinded it out and bought into the way I wanted things to run in Calgary. I am not going to ping everyone who’s been an important part of this journey, I think you all know who you are at this point.

    Ricer, out!! 🎤 ⬇️

**I do recommend that @leandrofg be considered to step in as replacement. He has been running the team behind the scenes this past season and has a really good handle on how things are going in Calgary. He also has a long history with the organization. I will respect whatever decision is made for my replacement.**

It’s been a long week and I travel to Pittsburgh tomorrow and Nashville on Wednesday.  And what makes it even worse is the Penguins and the Predators are both on road games during my brief stay in each city.  I need to get my media spot done for this week and I am dragging.  So, I apologize in advance if my Around the League in 500 words isn’t very good, but I’ll do my best.

    VHLE Playoffs:
It seems like I don’t particularly pay attention to what’s happening in the VHLE sometimes unless my player is in the league.  And it’s a shame too because there is some exciting hockey going on.  My pick to win the cup is Vasteras and they are in a battle currently with a good Stockholm Vikings club.

So far, the series has been a relatively low scoring affair with each team scoring 3 goals and allowing 3 goals. Grimgor Ironhide @FrostBeardhas notched two points for the Vikings and if he can get hot, there is no telling what the Vikings can do.  I still predict Vasteras to pull through but it will make for an exciting playoff.

In the other series, Cologne is curb stomping the Rome Gladiators. Pretty evenly matched during the regular season, the Express have come out hot defensively and in two games have not allowed a single goal, which is saying something considering the talent the Gladiators have.  First Gen Goalie, Clark @cl4rk has stopped all 61 shots slung his way.  Pretty impressive.

On offense, the Express has spread the scoring a bit amongst the team making it that much harder to stop them. Jordan Bennett @Plate, Joseph Dubois @Dubois, and Lionel Collberg @Masu Chan, all defensemen, are leading the Express in scoring which is nice for the team.

    VHLM Playoffs
As I sit here and patiently wait for tonight’s SIMS and clicking around the standings and stats I see Ottawa has come out swinging.  Going up two games to none on a good Miami Marauder club and scoring 12 goals in two games while only allowing 4.   George Richmond @badcolethetitan has tallied 5 goals and 1 assist in those two games probably making some teams wonder why they let him slide in the VHLM draft to the 11th spot, despite being the highest TPE earner at the time and a history of good players in the league.

Ottawa has a lot of depth up front but a little light on Defense with only two, one of which being the first overall pick and 81 points scorer, Vlad Von Carstein @Dom.  This lineup did see them win the eastern conference though, edging out the Philly Reapers by just a few points.

It’s still early in the playoff and anything can happen but would love to see an eastern matchup between Ottawa and Philly.

In the Western conference, it’s been a little more of a battle. Philly is up 2-0 on Las Vegas, Mississauga is 1-1 with Houston, and San Diego is 1-1 with a league’s best regular season team, Saskatoon.  Toon had 56 wins and only 11 loses with an amazing 255 goals scored, second only to Philly.

Exciting times and best of luck everyone.  I have to go pack now, ugh.

I'm generally cautious on "leaking" so to speak but I've been adamant on defending the individuals on the recruitment team up to this point because they had no direction or organization through no fault of their own. I think that can be recognized and appreciated separately from the valid criticisms of the team's performance as a whole. Personally I think the league neglected the recruitment team as well by choosing not to hire a head until we've hit this point of no recruits. I just don't think it was wise to essentially say "do what you guys want" and not provide previous knowledge, or instructions of basic activities.

Dom reacted to KaleebtheMighty in Apologies to Malmo
This season was, without question, puzzling and frustrating. When I set out to work to build this team for competition, I truly thought I had assembled a playoff contender. I had hoped with the forwards I accumulated and defense I’d assembled we’d be a fantastic team. We all had extremely high hopes, expecting Malmo to easily be a playoff contender. The buzz was electric before this season. There was a lot of hype and enthusiasm for our team, and we were ready to make our mark in S89. Unfortunately, that was a far fetched idea compared to the outcome of this past season. We tried as best as we could to tinker, analyze, and formulate new lines and methods of play to the best of our ability to win more. I watched to see who was available to bring in during the season and at the trade deadline. I don’t think I’ve ever switched up the strategies so many times, trying to find a groove for us to fit in and start winning. But nothing came. We continued to struggle and fell short of the playoffs this season.

I ultimately can’t put the blame or reason on anything. There was no glaring error in any of our players or lineups. There was no smoking gun or individual who wasn’t meshing well. It was an enigma I failed to crack in time. As we now approach the off-season, heading once again to the golf course early, I end with a somber note.

    I’m sorry.

I hate the fact that some people feel the season was wasted, because I worked hard to build this team to this point. I truly believe in each player in Malmo and feel that the potential is absolutely there. It just wouldn’t work out for us. And because of that, there’s probably going to be changes that I may not want to make.

While most teams are now moving on to next season and moving past this, I want to at least take this media spot to pen out a sincere apology to the Malmo Nighthawks. None of you deserved to endure a season like this that ended short of our goals and hopes. It will get better, it has to. We will be better. I really believe Malmo will still have many competitive seasons right around the corner. I would feel incredibly remorseful however if we swept everything under a rug and ignored this past season. Your efforts to earn TPE, interact with each other, and push us forward were great to see. I am still proud of this team, what we’ve built here, and value everyone that dons the Nighthawks jersey.

We’ve got more work to do, and we’re going to get back to our competitive ways very soon. Believe in this team, and we will go very far. Know that I’m working hard to ensure we come back next season as a playoff ready team. And get ready for the next wave of the Malmo Nighthawks.
