Seriously, it's been gone for a long while and I still have not found a post about it on the forums with a concrete answer to why it isn't running anymore. It is fun tpe and it benefits anyone. Let's say the main organizer can't do it anymore. I am sure there are still plenty of people who have the knowledge and time to pull off such projects, it also promotes asking people for help as sometimes when you can't find the right path to the answer one or more people can help lead you down the right path. It is a community project and promotes forum and discord activity more than for example writing these kinds of vhl articles. It is also a very fun way to learn about the VHL history if you are a new member who is trying to figure what happened before joining and in the early 2007 days

Phil the rock johnson.  Possibly the most original name in the history of the VHL, retired and has become a bodybuilder.  He idolizes to be like his twin Dwayne the rock Johnson who was born a whopping 4 seconds after him (!?!?).  beginning the journey to absolute muscle mass is a task many fail to accomplish, especially without a goal.  Although he had a goal.  99% muscle 1% Brain.  A task that seemed so impossible not even his brother Dwayne had the nerves or dedication to fulfill.  A task so enduring that not even a human-sized blobfish made out of nuclear pasta does not stand a chance.  BUT! Phil had endured a pain so deep that not even a human-sized blobfish made out of nuclear pasta could endure.  Listening to me and Daniel Jenser talk about european hockey and other european traditions in the LR mindlessly spamming it without the intention to do so.  With the amount of strength he gained from that alone no task nor human-sized blobfishes made of nuclear pasta  in the world could stop him.  He was ready to start his journey to absolute domination in the bodybuilding world.

Starting out on this journey he was missing the key component needed to obtain this mind blowing goal.  A shake weight, the only piece of equipment you will ever need.  It trains several different key muscles in a fun and useful way.  Thus he went to his local Walmart and picked one up.  Acquiring this component was key for his goal and success in his crazy task to consist of 99% muscle and 1% brain.  His first workout with the shake weight was the most painful, he did simply not have the natural strength to perform such motions.  But he did not give up, hour after hour, day after day it became easier and easier until he simply was too powerful for the beginner weight shake.  He went back to his walmart but this time bought the the "impossible" shake weight instead.  The cashier noticed him and was surprised to see someone actually become too strong for the beginner level, thus he said "Wow! you're a natural at this!" which he replied with "Hard work beats talent!".  After driving home with his brand new shake weight he was too excited to start working out.  So excited that he did not have the patience to  go to the toilet to execute a number 2.  He got addicted.  Hour in and hour out he was shaking and shaking until his body could not tolerate the shaking anymore and thus it was done.  He had acquired absolute muscle domination.(FYI this is a shake weight)

Absolute muscle domination had been obtained and he has become the ultimate being, nothing could stop him, not even a human-sized blobfish made of nuclear pasta.  His brother Dwayne was too scared of this ultimate being and instantly became jealous, he asked Phil for advice and suddenly Phil started walking away, not through the door but through the wall the door was on, he muttered "Shake Weight is the answer to everything" by the sheer amount of coolness Phil had produced was on a level a little too high, his twin Dwayne was left speechless.  He too also wanted to become a professional shake weighter with Phil as his idol.  Phil lived in peace with no one having the nerves to object him nor make him angry.  He later ran for president and won because no one could resist him, all the world problems were solved and Phil was carved into history as the greatest president ever and most importantly, the best shake weighter ever.

Vat reacted to bigAL in VHL Holiday Charity Auction call for items
Wow, it's December already. Wild eh?

For those that are new here, Christmas is a special time at the VHL. There's lots of fun games and uncapped opportunities floating around, but what really makes it special are the good deeds we do for others.

Last year, our VHL Holiday Bonanza was a biggie. My favourite part of that was the Charity Auction, and that's going to start right now. Take a look at last year's sub-forum to get an idea of what that's all about. Essentially, members offer up whatever they can or want to offer to others, and the rest of us bet real world money (okay, just Canadian dollars, but still). The highest bid at the end of the week, wins!

In this thread, please post your suggestions for both charities to donate to and things you're willing to auction off.

    Charities:
    - Broader is better. We're a highly diverse community, and so donating to the Oshawa SPCA is less meaningful to everyone than an organization that's Canada or US wide.

    - Timeliness is nice. There's a lot of shit happening in the world right this second, so something relevant to this day and time is meaningful.

    - Geography doesn't (really) matter. Last year, we aimed for one charity in Canada and another in the US. Share whatever you think we should donate to, regardless of where it is.

    - There's no bad ideas in brainstorming, but the staff team will have the final say on which we choose.

    Auction items:
    - We had an awesomely creative auction last year, check out the subforum for ideas for this year. It's okay to repeat things.

    - Staff will have the final say on which volunteered items make it to the auction. We will not select things like muting poor @Dil for the rest of his life. Could you imagine if he didn't take that like a champ and disappeared forever? I wouldn't blame him.

    - As always, everything must be SFW.

    Donations:
    - When you bid on an auction item, you are agreeing to pay that amount in full.

    - You can donate to the League (which will forward it onto our chosen charity) OR you can donate to a charity of your choosing, and post the receipt as proof.

    - @Beketov had a great idea: one place that's very in need around this time of year is the blood banks. If you donate blood, you will get up to $10 in donation credit.

    Other Holiday events:
Last year was wild, there was so much going on. Big ups to our man @Quik for putting that together.

One highlight last year was the Marbles, Trivia, and Fundraising Twitch Stream run by our very own streammaster@Esso2264 . He's generously agreed to donate his time again for an evening of good fun and fundraising. We'll finalize details closer to the date, but we're planning around the weekend of December 18/19.

Once we get the items for the charity auction sorted, we'll set fundraising goals and share the corresponding rewards for hitting each goal.

So, happy holidays! I know we're smack-dab in the middle of Hanukkah, Christmas is right around the corner, Winter Solstice is coming up, it's an exciting time. This month, more than ever, we need something to celebrate.

edit: yeah, y’know what? This is worth a @Members tag.

It's been a while since I've actually sat down to write a media spot. Honestly, it's felt like a while since I've really been as active on the forum in general. I've been busy and have a lot to talk about.

Where to begin...Well, I'm back in school full-time. I knew that heading into this school year my activity would slow significantly as with the amount of extra classes I take aside from my regular 8 slots (Band, Football, Rugby, etc) was really going to weigh on my activity. Unfortunately, that also led to the end of the ProAM Offseason Tournament, as balancing school, a GM position, the ProAM (although it only happened every once in a while) and everything else I have going in life isn't exactly sustainable. I still want to thank the entire ProAM staff team (@samx, @MexicanCow123, @Zetterberg and @Ricer13) as well as everyone who was a part of the ProAM for making that such a memorable experience.

A little while after that, I saw my former AGM @youloser1337 take a GM position in Mexico City. I was so happy that I was able to mentor him for 2 seasons and he's done a great job running Mex. Super proud of you Lose ❤️. Since then, I have yet another excellent AGM in @Horcrux and it's been an absolute honor to work with them so far! I'm hoping I am able to do as good as a job mentoring them as I can.

Speaking of GMing, I saw my good friend @JigglyGumballs step down from his spot as the GM of the Las Vegas Aces. @ajwllmsn has done a great job in running Vegas and I'm excited to see him take his next steps as a GM (still super proud you traded all the picks btw)! It was a bit sad in a way, as the two of us entered the league together, but seeing him take his break was I think a very good decision by him. We see each other all the time at school and I'm glad he's taking his time to slow it down and enjoy our Senior Year.

On the topic of being a Senior, Jiggs and I did play our last High School Football game a few weeks ago. We ran through the regular season, beating a few very good teams and heading into the playoffs with a 5-0 record. We ended up playing a team in semi-finals that we had played previously during week 4. In that game, we barely escaped with a 9-0 win thanks to our defense playing like the second coming of Seattle's Legion of Boom. Unfortunately, our offense couldn't get a lot going and our defense got tired as the game progressed, leading to us being knocked out. It was definitely an upsetting loss, but I couldn't have asked for a better team to play with and the memories I made along the way will always be with me for the rest of my life.

We usually have 2 teams, a JV team made up of mostly 9s and 10s and a Varsity Team of 11s and 12s. However, because of the circumstances of this year with COVID and everything, we ended up having a single team, with most of the team being 9s, 10s and 11s. I was able to become a leader and mentor a lot of the younger players and I hope I have the opportunity to come back as a coach next season. The younger guys really looked up to me so I hoped I showed them what not just being a good teammate and good football player is, but also being a great person.

Although the last two months have been really great, they've also provided their fair share of downs as well. I bottomed out emotionally at some point during September but with help from my friends and even a few members of the VHL community, I was able to get back on my feet really quickly. Things got even better. I met a really nice girl during one of our football games this season and the two of us started talking a lot. Last week, she confessed to me and now the two of us are closer than ever, which has been one of the greatest things to ever happen to me! We aren't quite dating yet, but things have gone good so far.

I made a new player in Calix Pearce. Making a defender is a lot different than a forward but I think I can handle it. I got drafted by Ottawa and I've had a great time with the opportunity @16z provided me with as a member of the Lynx! The Storm has since been relocated to Oslo and moved to the VHLE, along with the Geneva (formerly Yukon) Rush. Leading a team in the E is definitely a bit different but I think I haven't done too terrible yet so hopefully I will see improvement as the season goes on.

Now that brings me to one big thing I wanted to address while writing this. How does all this impact my future in the VHL? Well, even though I'm not as active as I once was, I still want to be a part of the VHL. I love this community and giving it up would be stupid. I'm not gonna lie, stepping back did cross my mind a few times, but it didn't stay for long. I'm at the point where I can balance everything without burning out like I would have over the last two months (don't ask how I can handle so much, I'm still trying to figure that one out). My hope is that I will be back and active like I was almost a year ago at this point.

We'll still see how this all will pan out long term, there is no guarantee that this will carry me all the way. However, for the time being, I'm back. Back and prepared to be my best for both myself and this community I call home.

Vat got a reaction from tinafrombobsburgers in Trade summary Nasherov -> CGY
November 17th, the day Gustislav Nasherov got traded from his beloved Helsinki to cup-hunting Calgary, i will go through what both sides got from this trade and who it really benefited the most.

    Background:

Helsinki had been rebuilding for the past few seasons after Jubis left for his last season as the GM.  The new GM Razor made the decision to officially start the rebuild.  Old players were getting traded for 1st rounders and there was close to no one left, except.  1 rookie named Gustislav  Nasherov, being drafted the season before made him an unnoticeable player in the game.  As the seasons went on he became better and better, he was moving too fast for the rebuild and was too old for the team.  With the seasons following draft Helsinki was on their way to draft with 3 1st rounders, and Nasherov did not fit in with the new and younger team and needed a new home.  A more competitive home.

Calgary Was in a strong position, with players who were ready to take the extra step in the playoffs and were without a doubt eyeing that cup.  The group with the quality players had one issue, not enough offensive players who knew what winning a cup was like.  Having that formula has 1 easy solution, a trade giving a forward for a more experienced forward.  But the main object was to find who to trade with.  Gustislav Nasherov was a perfect target, he was too old for the squad and was looking for a cup.  What more could calgary need?

    Who initiated the trade?

There are 2 solid answers to this question.  Mainly I think it was Calgary and Kricer.  Hunting for the cup and needing a forward who was in his later years makes sense that he initiated the trade.  It was just what he needed for a complete squad and Helsinki also needed to "get rid" of Nasherov.  Helsinki needed to "get rid" of Nasherov.

Helsinki needed out with Gustislav because of the tpe and age difference.  This leads to the theory that Helsinki GM Razor initiated the trade, he knew that Helsinki couldn't keep nasherov and began scouting for teams that could benefit of  having a player of his tpe and age, there he saw the team.  Calgary, they were going for the cup and Razor noticed they could use an older and more experienced  forward.  Proposing the idea to Ricer who was intrigued to be given a chance to unite with the most humble, awesome and handsome Gustislav Nasherov.  of course he would accept such a trade.

    Who won the trade?

    Calgary receives:
    Gustislav Nasherov
    S81 CGY 1st
    S81 DAV 2nd

    Helsinki receives:
    Alex Johnston
    S81 LAS 1st
    S81 LAS 2nd

The trade looked like this and had most notably: a CGY first going to Calgary along with Nasherov in exchange for LAS first and Alex Johnston to Helsinki.

Like every trade, there are two sides of the coin, in this case both teams won in their own way.

Helsinki got a younger forward who is going to enter his prime years when Helsinki prospects are ripe enough to start eyeing that cup, a leadership presence.  A player to look up to and a player Helsinki likely will have in their first line if they decide to keep him.  They also got LA's 1st round pick this year.  LA  looks to have established a position in the middle of the table and have the chance, although a small one to get a high pick next years draft.  From Helsinki's point of view this is a trade helping them with the rebuild and getting a player that could lead the team with their team spirit and knowledge.

Calgary Are looking for the cup and needed an older player who knew what it was like playing in the top lines and competing for cups,  Nasherov was a great fit for that in addition of Helsinki needing to "get rid" of an older player as Gustislav.   Calgary also got back their first round pick this year but as they most likely will finish in the top of the table it hold practically no use, could be used in a way to add a small sprinkle of trade value for a future trade if they feel the need to acquire someone else.

:Side note, I am sick while writing this so I am in knowledge that is one of my worse media spots.  Sorry.

Not many people know this, but I grew up in poverty. My mother was fighting an addiction and didn't work, and whatever my father gave her for child support was blown on drugs and unnecessary items. My younger brother and I grew up with very little, and it impacted not just my mental health, but also my physical health. The biggest impact had to do with my teeth.

First, my adult teeth came in incredibly crooked. It's certainly not the worst case of crooked teeth, but it was a noticeable amount. I really don't recall ever being made fun of for my teeth, but I honestly don't remember much from my childhood anyways. What I do know is that I hated smiling. Sure, there are pictures of me as a kid where I smiled and showed my teeth, but most of them have my lips sealed. I hated how my mouth looked.

Second, because of the poor parenting and lack of necessities, brushing your teeth was not a priority. The drugs my mom used caused her teeth to erode away very quickly, so she didn't really have a dental hygiene routine to show us. That, coupled with barely ever having tooth paste and a consistent diet of junk food and soda, caused for my brother and I to develop cavities early on. At one point I was given two temporary crowns which should have been replaced with permanent ones a few years later...they weren't. That was when I was about 8.

20 years later I started at my new church and finally, for the first time ever, I had dental and health insurance. I went to the dentist and watched as they were amazed that I still had temporary crowns. A few thousands of dollars, and many visits later, I now have the temporary crowns gone and the permanents in.

On top of that work I began to see an orthodontist. I went to one as a kid one time, but as soon as my dad saw the price tag he said "this is why I give your mom child support" and, of course, she wasn't going to use that free money to care for her kids. So, I went without. As I said, I don't remember being bullied as a kid, but I was as an adult. I was once at a training in California for the Army when a guy said, "Hey, why don't you come over here and I'll bust your teeth out so they can fix that crooked smile for ya." I heard things like this in college too. Now, if you know me in real life you'd know that comments like these don't really bother me. However, even if they don't bother you a great amount, the comments can build up over years.

About a month ago I made the decision that I was going to do what I've always had to do, provide for myself where my parents did not. So, I went to the orthodontist, wept bitterly at the price, and signed on the dotted line. Today I started my next 18 month journey. I now have Invisalign. I'm incredibly excited for this, and I'm anxious to see what happens as these next 18 months go by, but I'm very proud of myself for doing this. So, I wanted to share with you all!

I like the style your going for and I really dig the text, it matches with the jersey and it's not too "crazy" like some others can be.  Overall well done! 7/10

Vat reacted to Ricer13 in S80 Calgary Wranglers Regular Season Awards
Better late than never but we are finally presenting our regular season awards for season 80. On the eve of season 81 we look back at the season that was and celebrate the performances from a number of Wranglers. Some will be celebrated for what they accomplished on the ice while others will be recognized for their hard work on the forums and their dedication to this league. Let's waste not another minute and begin with our first award...

    The Top Shelf Award

This award is given to the leading goal scorer for Calgary during the regular season. The player to lead our team in goals in season 80 was Nathan Perry @tinafrombobsburgers! Perry finished the season with a total of 46 goals which was 13 goals ahead of the next Wrangler. This is a career high for Perry who only eclipsed 40 goals once in his career. It is also the single highest goal scoring record in over 5 seasons in Calgary. It was quite the performance from Perry as he took charge in Calgary in season 80.

    The Rybak Trophy

The Rybak Trophy is awarded to the player who leads the Wranglers in points during the regular season. This seasons winner is none other than Nathan Perry @tinafrombobsburgers! Statistically Perry had a career year. He hit career highs in goals, assists, points, shots, +/- and shots blocked. It has also been well over five seasons since a Wrangler hit the triple digit mark in points proving that Perry has become one of the best Wranglers of this generation.

    Young Buck Award

We don't only celebrate our current Wranglers but also like to celebrate our Junior Wranglers. Our stand out Young Buck was a tough decision this season as we had two players with fantastic seasons. However we can only choose one and this seasons winner of the Young Buck Award is Saku Kotkakoivu @DollarAndADream. Saku played on a mediocre Vasteras team during the regular season. They finished fourth overall and Saku had an impressive 91 points. Where Saku really shined was during the post season. Vasteras came in as the underdogs and upset their way to the first ever VHLE Championship. They took home the trophy and Kotkakoivu was a big part of that. He finished with 23 points in those in 14 playoffs games to help make a statement in Vasteras. We are very excited to see what he will bring to the Wranglers organization.

    Jubis Memorial Trophy

This award is on of my favorite awards. The Jubis Memorial Trophy is handed to the member who best demonstrates long term success in the VHL. One person really took the league by storm this past season and I am thankful that she played for our Wranglers team. She took the initiative to speak on issues in the league that were affecting her personally. Being strong enough to do that is going to bring real change to this league in a positive way. She has taken more responsibility in the league joining the Moderation team and has been promoted from the VHLM to the VHLE as the new Geneva Rush GM. She is such a genuinely good person and a pleasure to always have a conversation with even if it does have to do with why chicken wings are so much better than Chicken Nuggets. I can't think of a more deserving member to give the Jubis Memorial Trophy to, Congratulations to Joe Madison (Sam) @samx!

    The Sheriffs Badge

The Sheriff's Badge is given to the player who best demonstrates leadership amongst the team. The season 80 winner of the Sheriffs badge and the player who best exemplifies leadership in Calgary is no other than Captain Nathan Perry @tinafrombobsburgers. This one is a no brainer for me. He won the award last year and does so again this year because of how supportive he is of each of his team mates. He never waivers from his team first mentality and is always the first one to congratulate team mates for success of their own. He wants nothing but the best for this organization and for his peers and that is how a true leader should be.

    The Last Line Award

Our top defensemen award was a close race this season. We had two defensemen going neck and neck all season with their impressive performances on the ice. The player we have decided is most deserved of The Last Line Award is Tom Eagles @Greg_Di. Tom was a menace on both ends of the ice last season. He logged nearly 30 minutes per game and finished the season with 75 points in 72 games. 24 goals from a defensemen is impressive on its own but doing so with a shooting percentage of over 12 percent really showed how efficient he was. When the game was on the line he was also one of our most clutch players and finished with 5 game winning goals. He also did well in his own end finishing with 151 blocked shots and a +/- rating of 24. Impressive season from an impressive defender.

    The MVW (Most Valuable Wrangler)

This award is usually awarded from a peer vote. However due to how busy this offseason was for myself I completely blanked and forgot to do that. We discussed it over and thought it was fairly obvious which player performed to their highest level last season and really lead the way for this squad. We are proud to award the Most Valuable Wrangler award to Nathan Perry @tinafrombobsburgers. As mentioned by the many reasons above Perry really was a shining light on this Wranglers roster last season. Knowing the player he won't be satisfied with a few team awards. The goal is the Continental Cup and he plans to lead this team to glory in S81.

    Top Media Spot

The Top Media Spot this year is being awarded too Nils Tallinder @Patrik Tallinder. Although Tallinder has taken a step back from the league in some capacity to pursue other parts of this personal life he still manages to put out some incredible material. I can't wait until he comes back in full force and shows the league what they're missing without him!

    Top Graphic

The top graphic this season is being awarded to Alex Johnston @Alex_J32. Not necessarily known as a graphics wizard, Alex made a really cool trade tree graphic recently. I love the concept and originality. To step outside your comfort zone and create anything is hard so he is well deserved of the recognition.

    Top Podcast

Our top podcast this season is going to Phil The Rock Johnson @Phil. Podcasts are Phil's specialty and I love listening to what he has to say. I hope he can inspire some of our newer members to give it a go because I for one would love to hear what more people have to say.

Congratulation's to all of our award winners for S80. I love the group of players and members that come through our locker room. This league is so much more than a game and I for one enjoy telling people how kick ass of a job they do every season. We will be back next offseason for another edition of the Calgary Wranglers Regular Season Awards.

    Swiss Central Gazzette

And we are back with the promised update on our Swiss Hitmen and where they are going to play.

After being drafted 8th (highest VHL pick by a Swiss player ever) overall by the Calgary Wranglers, Daniel was picked at number 9 (and by doing so became the first Swiss to be drafted into the VHLE) by the Oslo Storm, a new founded team in the VHLE (relocated from Minnesota in the VHLM). As all the contracts with the existing roster had been invalidated by the change of league, the Storm will have to rebuild from scratch.
Marcel was picked by the acting Renaissance Cup holder Västeras Eagles at number 35 in the 4th round.

We finally were able to reach the brothers on the phone to give their comments:
Marcel: 'My injuries have healed well and I am back into full practice. The next season I will be playing for Halifax 21st and have a swing at the Founder's Cup. After that we will see, but I am excited to be picked by the Västeras Eagles and will do my best to make the lineup next season.'
Daniel: 'I am very excited to turn a new page with Oslo. It is very interesting to be a part of building up a new franchise and I hope I can contribute with my skills on and off the ice for the future success of this club. The final goal is the VHL though and I think I am a good fit for the Wranglers as Perry @tinafrombobsburgers and Vintanen @Xdjk93 are veteran left wingers and I hope to get to play with and learn from them, before they retire. I have already tickets to fly to Oslo and rented a flat in the Ullensakergata, close to the Nye Jordal Amfi, where we will play. It is all pretty new for me and I endeavour to learn Norse as soon as possible, so I can do my shopping (and of course talk to the ladies ;))'

We will be back when hockey recommences properly for the brothers.

Vat got a reaction from tinafrombobsburgers in Gustislav Nasherov for Calgary captain campaign
Reason why Gustislav Nasherov should become captain for the Calgary Wranglers.

    1. Always maxes his capped tpe on a Sunday night! This shows how lazy he can be also how non-inspiring he is most of the time. But hey Sunday night tpe is just as good as Monday morning TPE so what does it matter?

    2. I can talk on and on about my hate for the Växjö Lakers and also talk on and on about why Cam and Chris abbot are top 5 GM and coach duos to have ever lived. This proves my ability for talking about stuff and complain about the ref

    3. I'm Swedish. Hoggy and Petterson are Swedish and play for the Canucks, who is the only person who can rug this vote? That's right the Canucks fan river himself. Mind tricking him into rigging the selection proves my abilities to get into opponents and ref's head which can benefit our game drastically

Vat got a reaction from Phil in Phil the rock Johnson after retirement life
Phil the rock johnson.

Vat reacted to Beketov in Riga Reign - New Logo
The VHL has long prided itself on our logos, all custom work and all, we believe, top quality. However over time things inevitably change and what was once loved becomes stale. For that reason we have been going through and updating logos we feel have gotten stale and need a new look.

Today we continue that trend. @hedgehog337 brought up wanting a new logo several seasons ago and we went through several iterations with our own creators before eventually deciding on a purchased logo that we felt fit the team well. Therefore I present to you today the new and improved Riga Reign!

These type of graphics are my favorites! They easily show what happened in a "fun" and creative way.  This can also be used to announce larger trades like this one in a more interesting way than just posting a text about it.  The lighting is also well done, slightly more blue shaded to the right and more red shaded to the left.  There really isn't much to complain about here! 9/10
