Alright, you lucky 19 people who gave me my likes 6,001 through 6,019:

@.sniffuM - god we're old farts. Good to see you back to full speed, any lingering doubts I had about you at the draft are firmly removed by now, you're here to stay and we're all better for it.

@Beketov - are we ever gonna be rivals again? My GM player means our draft seasons are totally out of whack now. Was good fun, now we can go back to arguing about Holik's HOF credentials.

@flyersfan1453 - my #1 ally in the admin forum, what an inspired choice to bring you in there. Please re-sign.

@Nykonax - I don't know if I ever said but I actually loved the confidence about Dahlberg, we need more people talking up their players. Shame he was shit though.

@Gooningitup - Good to see you back and I'm glad there's no ill will about the unceremonious cap dump of Komarov a couple seasons back. You are welcome back in Moscow any time.

@Corco - out of nowhere you've replaced street as my main spreadsheet friend. We'll give you a pretty colour soon enough, I'm just really busy right now.

@eaglesfan036 - one of two VHLers I've met in real life (and the two I have on Facebook), what more is there to say. Please re-sign.

@GustavMattias - my alt... still dunno why, but humbled. Love your enthusiasm and writing style. Make Davos great again.

@gorlab - absolute MVP of Moscow. Had no idea if you were gonna stick around in S66 but you've gone full vintage gorlab, love to see it. If you want a proper siege mentality of a team, this is the man to generate it.

@Jayrad28 - I have seen your posts but I can't say I know you. But you were on the right side of history when it came to the trivia debacle, here's to more wins together.

@stevo - absolute don, and part of the small but mighty European cartel. Can't believe you're actually making a career VHLMer, it's actually taken 70 seasons for someone to do it successfully.

@Spade18 - well thank fuck I traded that 1st overall in S66 cuz that would have been bad. Good to see you back though, I feel like anyone who comes back after a brief hiatus has more freshness and guarantee of longevity.

@Enorama - HOF article champion, how many builder articles do I need to write now? Sounds like a job for S71. Kastelic gotta be one of the unluckiest players ever.

@Garsh - can't say I know much about you but you're in elite company in this crowd. Sky's the limit my friend.

@Rayzor_7 - I love a good first-gen superstar goalie, just something really authentic about it. You're right on the path to the HOF, just a shame at your draft May was still pretending to be active.

@DoktorFunk - your username confused me for ages cuz I knew Rayzor was Funk but then you had Funk in the name too. Definitely feel like you're here to stay and some great players are in your future.

@Kendrick - oh man a one-liner can't do this justice. We need to do like a podcast or something, lay it all out over a beer or several.

@Jubis - professional shit-stirrer and GIF abuser. Love the enthusiasm, less so scrolling through gifs, but you do you son.

@Higgins - my blue partner in crime, can't believe they took admin off you. Biggest robbery of 2020.

The final buzzer sounds, the Mexico Kings win the series 4-1 over the San Diego Marlins and a chapter of a hockey career comes to an end. Ritchie has played his last game in the VHLM, and the last game for his beloved Marlins. The team that picked up an injured player, cut from his last team and gave him the chance to become a star, a leader and more that anything, a Marlin.

A chapter that for some top prospects lasts a mere one or two seasons, this marked Ritchie's third in the league. Signing for Minnesota, suffering a almost career ending injury, getting a late by DC and San Diego and rehabbing to become one of the focal points of a promising young offense, it's certainly been a  journey for the young forward from the UK.

In an emotional interview post-game Ritchie gave his thoughts:

"It's a been a pleasure to play here, for the GM, the coach, the players and especially the fans. There's nowhere else I could see myself becoming the player I am now. It's in the face of adversity that this game teaches you what you're made of and by god I've had my fair share of that. From a roster without a goaltender at the start of S68, to that amazing second half of the season to make the playoffs, then bringing it to a really top team in Mississauga. Then the trades this season and the bumper crop of new talents, it's had it's ups and downs but I wouldn't change a thing."

"Thanks you San Diego!" he shouts to the crowd as team captain Roadkill Steve leads Ritchie on a lap of honour.

The two forwards have played almost 150 games together and been the backbone of the Marlins in the past two years, now though their paths diverge, Ritchie moving on to the Dragons who drafted him with the 61st pick in the S68 draft while Steve plans to continue to rack up an unassailable record as the Marlins star scorer.

Ritchie leaves San Diego 2nd in points scored (161) and 2nd in goals (86) in his 144 games played. behind only Roadkill Steve of course.

Only time will tell what awaits Ritchie in the VHL as he'll likely become a depth piece for the DC Dragons who have struggled to gain a footing in their first couple of seasons in the league, though with up and coming stars like former Las Vegas star Benny Graves, George Washington and Luciano Valentino along with others, the Dragons are poised for a bright future.

When you look at SportsCenter you always see the flashy high scoring forwards getting the attention reels, rarely you see an action of a more defensive player that does not score a lot. One of those low scoring players was Roadkill Steve in his first season with the San Diego Marlins.

As a rookie in the VHLM he was a minus 17 and had only 33 points. This was enough for him to get drafted by the Calgary Wranglers 42nd overall in the S68 VHL draft, but he has been ignored by the franchise since and now two seasons later he is still suiting up for the Marlins. In the meantime Roadkill Steve is no longer the hard working player that is ignored, but he has evolved in one of the main goalscorers for this San Diego team. In his sophomore season he saw an improvement of 95 points! And it’s not just that, his minus 17 also transformed in a plus 19 in the second season he played.
While it is still only minor league hockey and it wont catch the fancy VHL highlight reels, but Roadkill Steve is a player that deserves more attention then he gets. Despite being buried in the minors you will never hear him complain and he is a real team player next to that as well. When  looking at Roadkill you know he might spent more time with the Marlins as he has capped out at 250 training hours, which is the maximum of the VHLM. This gives the San Diego fans hope that he will also be with them for a fourth season in a role, a true franchise hero.

In his third season his numbers may have gone down a bit compared to his sophomore year, but he still is a welcome guest in any party that has been given, because Roadkill Steve is not just a hero on the ice, he is also the Marlins their party king. No keg will be able to withstand the fury of Roadkill when he is on a party. If there’s a keg, he will empty it, if there are more kegs, he will empty them, there is no stopping his rage.

Rumor goes that one time Roadkill Steve went home drunk from a party and actually hit a moose on his way home. Since Roadkill doesn’t drive small cars, his 4 x 4 offroad truck had no troubles decimating the poor animal. It died instantly. The car was fine, but the moose was heavily injured. And since it was snowing outside, the poor animal would probably be freezing.  So the good guy that he is, he took off his jacket and lay it over the moose, so he wouldn’t freeze to death.

Helpful actions like these, make Roadkill not only a hero on but off the ice, so I’m glad we finally could tell his story so the world would get to see what a huge hero Roadkill Steve actually is.
The moose and the jacket were never seen again, so we assume they made it out alive, all thanks to the unsung hero: Roadkill Steve
