AnthonyOuellet got a reaction from Spartan in Cody Lachance about his 2nd season.
After getting picked in the 4th round in the lastest draft of the VHLM league, Cody has contributed to the recent success of the Houston Bulls since the begining of the season. However, the young player from Quebec City needs to play better on the other side of the ice. Despite having a decent offensive season so far with 24 points in 31 games, he needs to play better in defense, -16 isn't good for a 2nd center in the team. We contacted Cody Lachance via Microsoft Teams to get some informations and to know how he feels about this early season, and his expectations about the rest of this season.

<< I like the team we have here in Houston, some would say we are overperforming right now and it's great. Unfortunately, my defensive game is very weak so far this season and I need to work on that. The average player is a good player in this league, it's not the Junior league where all you need is speed to perform. You gotta have a good IQ here to compete. Sometimes, I feel like I'm trying to do to much, playing with risk is making our team pay sometimes and I need to fix that problem. I think there is a learning curve in this league, but now I need to be better all-around, hockey isn't just about scoring and passing, you need to play defense to perform. Fortunately, I have a great coaching staff with me, they help me on every aspect of my game and I couldn't be happier to be in Houston right now at this stage of my career. >>

We also asked Cody, what is like to play with players like Myers, Henchoz etc.

<< They are incredible player, they make my life much easier sometimes, we have a very decent squad with some good players. I feel like playing with this type of talent make the playmaking thing much easier. I'm learning a lot from these 2, they are great leaders and they sometimes lead by example with how good they play the game since the start of this season. I talk very often with Myers about my defense, and I need to work on that, he is a good example of how you need to play defense in this league, I'm learning a lot from him. >>

<< I expect to have a better +/- at the end of the season, that's a personal objective for me, also I hope we make the playoffs. I think we have all the talent in the lockerroom to compete in the playoffs. We just need to find some constancy and we should be fine.  We have a very important stretch of game on our way, we need to make the most of it and play hard every night. Hopefully, I will play better on both side of the ice and we will win some important games, it's all about giving everything you have to get into the next level. Work hard pay hard, let's go Bulls >>

We will keep a look at the rest of the season for Cody Lachance, hopefully his defensive games improve so he can help his team.

Not going to lie here, I'm very excited about this new opportunity to play in Houston. It was a very stressfull period in the last couple of weeks. After the end of my try out in Philly, I had to go back in the gym to work hard, giving everything I have to be a part of the next VHLM Draft. To be honest, it was a big surprise for me to be drafted that early in the draft, I expected to be in the later rounds or, undrafted. I love that Houston took a chance on me and hopefully, it will pay for them and for me. I had a very good draft interview with them, I believe this organisation have a plan for me, they have a mindset that I like. It feels weird to play for the team that destroyed us last season in the playoffs. But now, I can say that Houston is my home for now. They will be my home until I can achieve my dream and go into the VHL. I loved the fact that they took some time to interview me, get to know what type of player I am, the way I'm going to work on and off the ice. It shows that they are involved in the developpment of their players. I was nervous at the draft, but it went very well for me. I got drafted in the third round, the first pick of this round which is fine. I also love that 24 guys have been drafted before me, it will give me motivation to pursue them into the next level. I want to prove that all the other teams made an error by passing on me multiple times. I know it sound '' cliché '', but this will give me energy when I work and train.

My next season goals are pretty simple, I want to improve on both side of the ice. I know how important it is to play defense in this caliber, but I also want to be a primary passer in the line-up. Their roster is looking young, it's an opportunity for me to be a pivot in this team, to be a foundation of this '' retooling ''. As a pass first player, I hope that I can create a chemistry with my guys, so I can learn to optimize my game and hopefully create some goaling opportunity for the other players on the roster !

New city, new opportunity for me. I want to say thank you to Philadelphia for the try out, they show me how to be a pro in this league, and I wish the best to my teammates back there. Hopefully, they will let me score when we face them. My short time back there was great to be honest, it's a great place to start, every draftee that got drafted there are lucky. Now, time for me to go back on the ice, big season ahead of me!

Additional note as well: this will be for both the VHL and VHLM. It’s not a matter of whether or not there’s a conflict of interest, it’s a matter of transparency and both leagues deserve that. I hope everyone enjoys watching manual roster moves, the VHLM is full of them.

EPISODE TWO - FIRST SEASON IN THE BOOKS !

<< Even tho it was not a complete season for me in the VHLM, I feel like this was a great learning experience for me as a player. I got the chance to play against some very good prospect, and i got my ass beaten quite few times. Fortunately, I'm learning very fast, this game is getting slower and slower every game. This off-season, I will work on my skating and my defense, I think in this league, if you want to have success, you need to play on both side of the ice and that's what I will do. I need to prepare myself mentaly and physically for the upcoming VHLM. I hope there is a team out there that will take a chance on me. I feel like I still have so much to prove, and the VHLM is another step closer to my dream, the VHL. The road is still a long one, but I'm confident that one day, ill be in the pros. I also want to thank Philly, they gave me a chance in a try out, to see what I can do. They also gave me playoff experience, which is crucial in this league. This tryout was really helpfull, it helped me, to see if I can be and if I can perform in this league. >>

AnthonyOuellet got a reaction from Sixersfan594 in Cody Lachance on his tryout with the Philadelphia Reapers
Few weeks ago, Cody Lachance had a call from the Head Coach of the Philadelphia Reapers in the VHLM. This call was an invitation to a tryout with the team for the rest of the season, an opportunity for the young guy from Quebec City to prove himself in the pros and hopefully, get a chance to be drafted in the big league, the VHL. Cody played a total of 9 games in the season, getting an honest 5 points (5 assists). We called Cody, via Zoom to talk with him about this learning experience, his expectations about his future in the hockey world and also, his plans for the next season.

Cody Lachance : Firstly, I want to thank a lot of people for this whole experience, this was a very learning opportunity and I can say that I did the most of it. I firstly want to thank the Head Coach @DMaximus for the opportunity, he took a chance on me late in the season, and I learned a lot from it in those 9 games (+ playoffs). I think I have a lot to offer at this league, it will be amazing to work this off-season, prepare for the next draft. First thing I learned when I joined the league is that nothing is given here, you have to work extremely hard to compete and that's whay I'm planning to do this off-season. However, I can see myself performing in this level of hockey, with some trainings and more experience, I can see myself out of the pack. The main part of my game that I need to work on his the skating, guys in this league are very fast but also much bigger, If I want to perform, I will need to work on these legs and gain speed. Secondly, the defensive aspect of the game is very important and it's something I need to put energy on, people here don't focus on the offense, they build offense with their wise defense. In the junior leagues, you just need to be aggressive and skilled to compete, but in the big league, I feel like you need to be versatile and be good on both side of the ice.

Reporter : What are your plans for the upcoming season, any idea where your going to be drafted, if your drafted?

Cody Lachance : That's a good question, to be honest I have no idea if I will be drafter in the VHLM, but the one thing I'm sure is that I will work my ass off to put all the chances on my side. Like I said earlier, nothing is given. I will also be willing to play for any team that want me. I also don't know what to expect from this draft honestly, I just hope I will be in a good organisation that will work as hard as I do to compete.

Reporter: Thank you Cody for your time, good luck in the playoffs against Houston, I'm sure this will also be a great learning experience for you as a young player.

Cody Lachance : Yeah that's for sure, thank you, go Reapers.

For a first attempt, this looks awesome man, and it's a hell of alot better than some of the other stuff I've seen on here lately. It's got alot going on visually, but thats not necessarily a bad thing! I like the swiping backdrop behind your name at the bottom, it looks sick and fits in nicely. I guess the only thing I'd change is maybe the positioning of the font so it's not cut off, but really this is just a minor issue overall. You should totally keep at this, if this is your first attempt I can't imagine how good you will be at this a few seasons down the road. Cheers man! 9/10
