Any day that the Flyers not only beat the Penguins, they beat the piss out of them to the point of a shutout is a great day in my book.

The VHLM already is closer too having too many teams than too few. And the number of teams isn't the problem anyway, the problem is that each year one or two teams accumulate almost all the picks in the draft to make a run, preceded and followed by multiple years of tanking. This problem won't change with 15 or 20 teams, if anything an expansion would give even more of an incentive to use that tactic because you won't be able to ice a competitive team just by using your own picks if you already have trouble finding actives in the 2nd round of the draft, which would now consist of picks 15-30.

There already are multiple teams each season that are a non-factor in the standings because they have barely any players on the roster and/or no draft picks. If we expanded, the number of these teams would grow even larger, from maybe 2-3 to 5+ and this wouldn't be good for the league. 2-3 teams being absolutely shitty is already too much and if the sims weren't connected, I would actually be an advocate of cutting the league down to 8 teams. Even with the strong drafts we had recently the talent level isn't really there to support 10 teams, not to say 15 or 20.

I don't really see what this changes though. I can still acquire a bunch of draft picks in one draft and just release everyone on my team who's inactive. Teams like Turku (and Yukon to some extent) that have 3 full lines of players are the exception, not the rule. Going back to S32, no team that won the Founder's Cup had more than 2 sets of forward lines and defense filled with players of worth. Some teams may have had semi-active waiver players at best or low TPE inactives filling out the 3rd or 4th line, but taking these players off of the Super Teams and moving them to any other team does nothing to change the balance of power in the VHLM.

I know you said you hated the rule Jason, but if we really want to promote parity in the VHLM, then I really think you have limit the number of picks (specifically 1st rounders) that a team can have in any given season.

    S36: Bratislava (4)
    S35: Ottawa (4)
    S34: Yukon (3)
S33: Bratislava (5) Also worth noting that Kolari had 3 1st rounders in this draft.
S32: Oslo (4) Also worth noting that Ottawa had 6 1st rounders in this draft.

These were the Founder's Cup winning teams in each season. The number in parentheses is how many 1st round picks they had in that season. The only team that won that wasn't at least tied for most picks in the first round was Oslo in S32. Coincidentally, the team they beat was Ottawa.

Because of the nature of the VHLM where the best recreates spend one full season in the minors at most and most first-gen players spend two, you're going to have a ton of turnover each season. If we really want parity in the minors, I think we have to go back to limiting first rounders in a single draft to at least 3, although I would suggest 2. This way, if a team really wanted to stand out, they'd have to focus on keeping their 2nd and 3rd round picks active, which is something that has historically been hit or miss depending on the strength of the draft.

I hate to be the guy who calls for hard and fast rules, but this is my understanding of how it worked with Molholt, and if he's going to have to lose out, then it should just be the rule.

You have to be under 175 at the beginning of the season.
If you are over, you go up.
You can simply not claim things in order to be under, but if you don't claim them in order to be under, you can't claim them. It doesn't matter if it's next season. The points are gone.

Player Store was the one thing I disagreed with how they dealt with it for Molholt, if you purchase something and then have to forfeit it, it should be as though it was not purchased and the money should return to the bank account. Player Store is not a required purchase season by season, many people don't buy Player Store until they have enough for the max package. Actually, same deal with donation money, donation money is for a given season (S36 for example) not an offseason. If you purchase points with donation money, it's up to you when you use that purchase.

TC, media articles, prediction points, those all have a specific time when they're due. TC is at the beginning of the season when TC comes out, still considered offseason, still before the cutoff. Media articles are considered to be of the week they were done. If it's the following Monday, those points are considered earned and apply toward your total, whether updated or not, unless you choose not to use them at all. That doesn't mean you get them at the end of the season, and it doesn't mean you have to update everything at that week (I mean everyone knows I update in large chunks) but let's say the following is the case:

Player A has 170 TPE. Player A writes a media article in the week that ends before the cutoff date. Several weeks and several articles later, Player A does a big update with 40 TPE to go to 210. All of this is valid, he is allowed to do this, BUT he is considered over the limit because the article for the first week would give him 176, EVEN IF HE DOESN'T UPDATE IT FOR A MONTH like I do.

Well this is it. Can’t believe this day is here. It feels like I’ve invested so much time in this player, and it actually really sucks this has to happen.

When I first came to the VHL, I never would have imagined I’d be as immersed as I am today. The community, the league, everything, it’s great. I envisioned Osborne to be a decent player that was a team-first player. I really can’t believe the evolution into a superstar that he became.

Winning a cup was the highlight of his career. However, being the first first-gen taken first overall in the VHL was really huge. Getting 4 Grimm Awards was great. Capping my final active season off with an MVP and Slobo Award was also unimaginable.

I’ve met so many great people on this site, and I’d like to thank each and every one of them for making my time here so enjoyable. All the players I’ve played with have been great. The new player also means a fresh start with new opportunities - although I’ll never miss the run with Osborne and how much fun it really was. Before I go out I feel like I should really give shoutouts. I could probably go on for days about every member who affected me (hell, I did a full VHL Magazine shouting out every member lol). Instead, I’m going to shoutout two guys that really stand out.

Higgins - First and foremost, Thank you Higgy. You took a huge chance on Osborne taking me over two amazing recreate members. Not only that, but my entire career I played next to you, and it was honestly a fuckin blast. It was a fun ride with Helsinki and it was so entertaining sitting in the passenger seat. You are the reason Osborne had sim success, as you always knew how to get the most out of him (all those resims and rigging). Higgy put an amazing franchise together and always surrounded us with players that were fun to play with. You’re a major reason the past 1.5 years have been a blast.

Victor - The one guy who gave me opportunity after opportunity right off the hop. You hooked me up with my first grader job, and vouched for me every time I needed it. I don’t think my stock as a member would have risen as fast if you weren’t there. I’ve been a grader, VHLM Mag Writer, VHL Mag Editor, BOG member, VHLM GM, and VHL GM. I’m not saying you’re responsible for all my jobs - but you definately helped me get each opportunity in some way. I still don’t really know why I was given the benefit of the doubt right off the hop - but I’m grateful.

Anyways, I went on a lot longer than I thought. Again, thanks to the entire community. I can’t wait to do this all over again..

    Dear world,

This is my first fan590 and since this rubric has “fan” in it, I will keep it strictly on a fan basis. This is going to be unsteady row of blog entries concerning me and my life as a VHL pro. As you all know, I have recently been drafted in the season 37 draft to the Cologne Express. Prior to that draft, I have very much been contemplating whether to retire or not. I have not been sure whether I am mentally ready to focus myself every day on this hard business, and winning the Founders Cup with the Ottawa Lynx could have been the wrong step to begin my career. Not saying that I would not like to win it again, as I had some pretty nice experiences there including some goals during these finals but: sometimes failure is the reason to succeed.

Being drafted now to the Cologne however somewhat relit the fire in me. My journey in this league is not over, maybe it just has started. We will see how this thing turns out. For now, I will try to keep my work pace up for the next few weeks. Be excited on what is coming up! Even though it is most likely that I will get send down into the VHLM for another year, doing that only makes sense in my eyes.

    The future is ahead.

Even with not having much time you can build your player. There is a weekly welfare topic where you could claim 2 points with a single points and a 1 point VHLM training facility each week.
Despite not having much time now, you can make a nice start on your player for when you do have more time. When there are weeks when you have a bit more time you always could knock out a media spot.

Keep in mind that a lot of the tpe in this league comes from casual things, as tpe bonusses during the holidays, achievements for your player and a yearly training camp.

It doesn't take much time to build a decent player, so you might want to give it a chance before retirement.

You won't screw GM's or anything by staying

With the draft and free agency coming up there is much hope in Riga that someone will want to be apart of the hugs. So far we've added Mikey Blade and called up Phil Villeneuve but it's unsure if they are interested in that yet. So far on the team the two Gow brothers are too creeped out to hug and then we had the two old men Mike and Bushito and they were too cool for hugs.

Everybody needs to hug here and there and I'm all by my lonesome so hopefully someone will come here via draft (I'm looking at you sherif) or maybe even someone will be brave enough to sign here via free agency! Who doesn't want a hug from me I mean come on. It won't be too long before everyone will want to be part of it and by then it will be too late and I won't let them join. Come to Riga, we have hugs.
