So unfortunately, my AGM in @McWolf will be stepping down from his role after tonight's draft for an incredible and exciting opportunity. He's been a great person and friend throughout my tenure here in Halifax, so I want to wish him the best of luck moving forward.

I'll be looking for an Assistant General Manager who can help with recruiting, the LR dynamics, lines (occasionally) and team strategy/planning.

(Also, I spoke with @Rayzor_7 and he's cool with both of our jobs being up at the same time!)

    Good luck, applicants!

It was the first day of training camp with the Malmo Nighthawks, this year will be much different than the last as I will be playing in my first VHL season. In my final season in the VHLM with the Minnesota Storm, I ended the regular season with 91 points (16-75-91) which was good for second league wide among defense-men while also finishing in the top 2 for assists. I proved to all my doubters that I could be a #1 offensive defense man that could consistently lead the rush. Of course with me making the jump to the big leagues this upcoming season, I've primarily focused on improving my defensive abilities which were my main weaknesses going into training camp last season. I feel like I can now hold my own in the VHL and am ready for the challenge ahead.

Considering the needs of Malmo, I will look to be put into a more offensive role, as the defensemen currently with the organization are primarily defensive minded or 2-way players. Looking at our current defensive depth, I will be played in a top 4 role while primarily slotting in on the power play with regards to special teams. Our defense looks to be one the brightest young d-cores in the league, which looks to be even more impressive with the recent addition of the first overall pick defenseman Condor Adrienne. Rounding out our top 4 is current Malmo star defenseman Jerry Garcia,  big Rusty Shackleford and myself we will be a team to be feared in the upcoming seasons.

I have high expectations for myself considering the amount of work I've put in this last season. I'm predicting possible rookie of the year nominations, while also putting up respectable numbers in my first professional season in the VHL. I wouldn't say 40 points is too far fetched, I know the extent of my abilities and will continue to prove everyone wrong as I continue to progress into my career. With regards to my thoughts on how our team will do, I still believe that we are a season or two away from a respectable cup run. We are currently a bubbling team that may or may not make the playoffs, but considering it's still early in the off season, our team could still look relatively different from now to the start of the season. There are rumblings of a few big free agents that maybe considering signing with the Malmo Nighthawks which is exciting for our team, it seems as though Malmo is now a destination that players want to go to.

This feeling is strange, it's the same feeling as when I first came over to play my first season in the VHLM withe the Halifax 21st. I'm excited, but also anxious about my rookie season in the big leagues, I have lots to prove and more to improve on. Although one things for sure, as long as I'm confident in my team and my abilities, it should be a successful season regardless of where the team ends up in the standings.

" And with the first overall pick, the Malmo Nighthawks are so proud to select, from the Philadelphia Reapers Defenseman Condor Adrienne! "

The consensus number one pick has finally been announced to join the Malmo Nighthawks organization. Condor Adrienne finished his final season in the VHLM with the Philadephia Reapers, putting up respectable numbers (25-42-67) while also being very defensively responsible. Condor impressed scouts last season with his elite skating, deceptive speed and compete level. He is currently projected to immediately join the Malmo Nighthawks VHL team right out of the draft and will slot into a top 4 role. Usually with young defensemen more time is expected towards player development, but with Condor Adrienne he is simply just too good for the VHLM. Although he may not make as big as an impact in his first season, we do see him transitioning into an elite two-way defenseman going forward. He will join an exciting Malmo Nighthawks team that will continue to add pieces to their young core.

I'm definitely interested in this one. You can look at some of my previous applications for GM positions to hear my normal sales pitch (caring, competent, energetic,...). But really I think I'm well suited for this GM gig in part because the Reapers drafted my player their inaugural year. In addition to that, I have already helped shape their history by writing a 2,000+ word story on the arena (Part 1, Part 2). My ties to the franchise run deep and make me a great candidate for Reaper GM.

Michael Johnson's thoughts on his offseason, his thoughts on the upcoming draft and the Malmo GM:

"This offseason has been a strange one. This off season I've been doing a lot of self-reflection. Obviously there has been an adjustment in terms of the change in league and skill level. This season was a bit of a wash for all of us but I saw a lot of positives. I think next season you'll see a big improvement from myself and from the rest of the Malmo squad. We also have a big name player coming into our team and Hugh fighting for a spot on the D core. Our team is going to look very different, which obviously is a bit sad since I've gotten close to certain teammates, but will be great for the organization. I can't wait to see how we do in this draft. I think the first round seems a bit obvious within the first 3 picks, after that, however, looks very interesting and positive. This draft looks very interesting from the perspective of a player on an up and coming team."

"There's no doubt in my mind that the big boss knows exactly what he's doing. He's a very focused and determined individual who has a clear plan with what he wants to do with Malmo. He's also got lots of expectations on us to take the right steps to succeed. He has that bit of pressure yet belief in us really pushes us young players. He believes in us and that is all I can ask for as a player."

HughJas_ got a reaction from Berocka in Hugh Chan Season Overview
This regular season in the VHLM was one of the best performances of Hugh Chan's career, ending the season totaling 16 goals and 91 points. The strong effort was good for 2nd among blue liners in terms of  points while also top 10 league wide. Chan had high expectations in the VHLM as he decided to stay down another year, players usually improve dramatically in their D+1 season. The team that GM Rayzor put together, Chan personally thought that it was a championship caliber team with the strength coming from the back end. There definitely could've been improvements in their forward depth in hindsight but the trade market just wasn't willing to move top 6 forwards. The Minnesota Wild ended the season with 111 points which secured them the third seed going into playoffs. The Wild surprised many with an incredible 8-1 record en route to a finals appearance, before being swept by Ottawa in the finals. Overall it was a very successful season overall with many doubting the Storm before the season started. Chan has shown improvements in both his play and leadership, the experience should translate well to the VHL in what we hope is a successful career for Chan going forward.

Dalton Wilcox Season Reflections Offseason Plan

Q: Now that you’ve had a few weeks off and had a chance to decompress after the VHLM playoffs, how do you feel your season with the Houston Bulls went?
A:  Obviously it sucks to have been eliminated so early in the playoffs, but overall I’m happy with my season.  I ended up as one of the top 5 goal scorers in the VHLM and was in the goal scoring and points race the whole season.  A lot of credit goes to @FrostBeard who really put me into a position to succeed and to my teammates who were really supportive of me the whole season.

Q:  Was there anything you could have done differently in the playoffs?
A:  I don’t think so.  We were dominated in all facets of the game.  Maybe some lines had to be tinkered and some strategies had to be adjusted, but I don’t think it really would have made a difference.  We were just unprepared.

Q:  How have you been spending the last few weeks after the playoffs ended? Have you been following the VHL/VHLM playoffs?
A:  To be honest, I was in a pretty bad place for short period of time.  I had extremely high hopes for the playoffs and was pretty sure we were in contention for the championship.  The quik exit led me back to the bottle.  A lot of hours were spent in bars and in places I can’t mention in a family friendly interview.  Luckily @Elmebeck was around and was able to pick me up whenever I was feeling down.  He ended up being one of my closest teammates on the team and we’ve had some fun times during and after the season. I look forward to seeing him drafted into the VHL and hopefully we can end up on the same team (even though he hates Malmo).

Q:  What is your offseason looking like?
A:  So yeah, I’ve returned to the family farm just to help out a bit.  I’ve been away from them all season so it’s cool to see how the animals and crops have grown, and just how things changed over the last few months.  I plan on helping out there for a few weeks before getting back into training.

Q:  What is your offseason training plan?  Any specific areas of focus?
A:  Luckily I have a homemade gym at the family ranch so I do plan on spending a lot of time in there.  One can always get bigger, faster and stronger so I’ll be working on a lot of powerlifting and HIIT.  The plan is to work on explosiveness, speed and to be able to get stronger.  I lost a lot of board battles this year so the plan is to get bigger in order to fend off the bigger and faster dmen in the VHL.

As far as skills go, I’ve actually contacted famous skills coach and NHL hall of famer Adam Oates for some one on one training.  He’s one of the best playmakers the game has ever seen, and that’s one part of my game I really need to wok on.  I look forward to learning a lot from him as I make the jump to the VHL.

HughJas_ reacted to Dalton Wilcox in Wilcox wraps up VHLM Career
With his VHLM career winding down after a disappointing playoff exit with the Houston Bulls, Dalton Wilcox is ready to transition to the VHL.  The fast skating, hard shooting scorer has developed nicely, starting with 40 points in his first season with the San Diego Marlins and then finishing up with 95 points the following season with the Houston Bulls.  He has really rounded out his game, but still has more to work on in order to succeed at the next level.

Wilcox is currently property of the Malmo Nighthawks, who drafted him 19th overall in S67, but with the expansion draft looming, his future still very much up in the air.  Wilcox will be happy for the opportunity to play for the team that drafted him, but ultimately knows that the VHL is a business and he'll go play wherever he ends up.

Wilcox ends his VHLM career with 66 goals and 69 assists (nice) for 135 points in 144 games.  Will Wilcox be able to sustain his lofty scoring totals at the next level?  Will he be a total bust?  Stay tuned...

And by jump, I mean jump ahead. The finals have just started, and the Minnesota Storm are headed back to Minny, the State of Hockey apperently, down 2-0.

With the season close to done, Kaspars Claude is already thinking of the next step. With him recently passing the cap for the VHLM, he unfortunately will not be able to stay in the minors next season. That makes it very interesting because where he gets drafted will be a beginning of a new chapter and the start of his career in the pro league.

Thanks to member rjfryman (I wont tag him cause it aint that important lol) we are able to follow what the draft class is looking like right now. Condor Adrienne is running away with it at the top of the draft class, putting in 349 hours in the gym for his development. Claude is found all the way at 17th, which would be considered a mid round pick in the second round if the VHL managers would pick according to TPE totals.

"Honestly, I think I am doing pretty good when it comes to getting my name out there. I have been constantly on the come up on that draft rankings list and I have been relatively active around the board networking here. I have already heard from other members that they would be interested in having me on their team, so now it is all a matter of where I end up. I do not have a preference and I will be happy wherever I go. I think it would be tough to see my name drop when it comes draft day but I know thats part of the business. I will make the most of it and try to create a legacy in the league. Try and make all the GMs realize the mistake they made by passing up on me."

    08/28/2019:

Man, this offseason feels long. The days have been longer, i've been sweating on my couch. I'm literally sitting here itching my arms like a crack addict, waiting on the season to come back. Is this what it feels like to not be in the playoffs? On god, I'm tired as hell of doing nothing every single day. Most days we go to @K1NG LINUS's house, play xbox and barbeque which is cool and all, don't get me wrong. I'm just missing a purpose in my life I guess, maybe I should make some priorities before the offseason finishes so I don't come into camp as a fat dude.

Today, the All-Star game voting came out. I was listed as one of the candidates to enter into the big game, granted I don't believe I'll be going. There's just better goalies out there, simple as fact. I don't feel terrible at all by saying that, there's nothing wrong with that thought process at all. In fact, today I was talking to my teammates and we had a discussion on who could win the Most Improved Player next season and I've decided to throw my name in the hat. I'm going to be doing everything physically possible to get my name etched into that award. I've been making big talk about how I'm going to make waves but I feel this time it is different. I am going to make waves next season and I think I can be a top 5 goalie statistically. I've been talking to the coach and he believes in me as well.

Now granted, I think @VanCanWin is also a very strong candidate and I'll be advocating for him just as much as myself for the award. He deserves it more than me I'd like to think. His play has been improving at an astronomical rate this season and I just can't see it stopping anytime soon. He's been improving on his skating and shooting. He'll be absolutely sniping them in soon! I'm excited to see what he can produce. He absolutely deserves the recognition and I think he'll climb up the depth chart really quickly next season, so keep an eye out on him.

Since I was talking about next season with my teammates, I did want to talk about this season here in my journal. I believe @GustavMattias deserves Most Improved Player for this season. He's an incredible defensive defenseman and while he doesn't put the puck in the net, he does all the dirty work in the defensive zone. If anyone sees this, please vote for him. He definitely inflated the hell out of my stats. So thank you Jerry, he deserves some love from the league with what he's been producing this past season.

I'm sure I could talk about everyone on my team, they're all incredible athletes. Next season, we can be a very strong team and hopefully we push into a playoff position.

    Lets go Malmo Nighthawks!
