I wouldn't be mad if I got drafted by Las Vegas, with all those picks they have potential for sure! Would also be cool to get drafted to a team with a previous teammate, who knows what will happen. Nice article dude, thanks for the mentionano

diacope reacted to omgitshim in S68 VHLM Dispersal Mock Draft
With the VHLM Dispersal draft slated to take place this weekend, there's no better time than the present to make a mock draft! When it comes to a VHLM team, there are two approaches to the dispersal draft: do you take the best player you can and go all out for this season, or do you aim for a more developmental prospect that will still be worthwhile this season but also give you production into next season as well? Let's see how this breaks down!

    1.) Mississauga Hounds: Brock Louth, D @Beaviss
Mississauga is in need of all the talent they can get, so what better way to start off than with the top rated prospect from the class of S69? It may seem strange to build your team around a defenseman, but make no mistake, Louth has a shot that rivals some of the top forwards in this draft.

2.) Mexico City Kings: Samuel Ross, G @Brrbisbrr
There's some concern that Ross may forgo the minors this season and head straight to the pros, but as it can often times be tough to find playing time up there, it's likely he'll stay down for one more season. Like Mississauga, Mexico City is in need of talent across the board, but with 6 picks in the first 3 rounds, they could very well build a playoff contending team this season. Having a future star in the net only helps there.

3.) Las Vegas Aces: Ryan Busser, RW @diacope
Speaking of rebuilding on the fly, Las Vegas boasts 7 picks in the first 3 rounds (including 3 of the top 7) as well as 3 of the first 4 picks in the 4th round. While it may take a bit of good scouting to make good on those last few picks, that's 10 players that could easily become contributers for a playoffs minded team. Busser is the top rated forward for next season and will be the pick here.

4.) Las Vegas Aces: Benny Graves, C @STZ
And they follow that pick up by snagging the top rated center for next season. Like Louth, Graves is the kind of generational talent that doesn't come along very often. It would not shock me at all to see Graves at the top goal and points scorer next season.

5.) San Diego Marlins: Solomon Crawford, G @AndrewWarren13
San Diego is in a similar boat as the previous teams with a near empty roster (save for local legend Roadkill Steve), but without the same draft capital as the others. Thus, the Marlins may be better suited to build towards S69. Crawford gives them a solid body in the net that should more than pull his weight this season and be ready to take the league by storm next year.

    6.) Houston Bulls: Chad Gilbert, C @Fire_In_Babylon
Unlike the other teams, Houston actually has a decent base of players to build around with a strong goalie, a pair of developing wingers, and a couple of solid defenders. Their biggest weakness is at center, so Gilbert fits the bill here. Gilbert should immediately slot into their top line and give them someone who led the VHLM in faceoff percentage last season.

7.) Las Vegas Aces: Bruce Grimaldi, G @Psyduck77
Las Vegas grabbed a couple of forwards earlier, but they will need a goaltender if they want to compete this season. Grimaldi is the best available at this slot, and they'd be wise to lock him up before he's gone, especially with Yukon likely having their eye on them with the next pick.

    8.) Yukon Rush: Block Buster, G @Banana2311
Yukon is loaded along the defense and have a couple of nice forwards, but like many teams are in need of a goalie. With three of the top four prospects already off the board, the Rush select Buster here to ensure they have someone in there that they're comfortable with, as they know they won't be making a playoff run with a bot in the net.

9.) Mississauga Hounds: Soren Jensen, RW @Velevra
The Hounds continue their trend of snagging S69 players by grabbing the promising winger Jensen. Jensen is a bit of a pass first, defensive minded forward, which will pair well with the offensive minded Louth to give the Hounds an inside-out attack that can confuse other teams.

    10.) Philadelphia Reapers: Balentine Kidd, C @TukTukTheGreat
Philadelphia still has plenty stocked up from last season to make another run this season, but they have one glaring hole in the middle of the line. Kidd will fit in nicely there, as his ability to play the puck and win faceoffs will be invaluable for the Reapers. While some might wonder why not go with George Washington here, the Reapers already have a lot of pass first players on the squad, so getting a scoring minded center would likely be a better fit for them overall.

11.) Mexico City Kings: Jeff Tates, RW @PotatoKing
While they locked up their goalie earlier, they still have a lot of holes to fill. Tates is the best player available at this point, so the Kings will select him as they cap off the first round of the draft. Tates has some of the best puck handling skills in this entire draft, and they'll rely heavily on his ability to control the puck this season.

Flashback to the beginning of the year, and San Diego was a write-off. They had sold their S67 assets to compete in their inaugural season, and while the playoffs last season didn't pan out the way they had hoped, they were competitive. Jump forward to this year, San Diego had no assets going into S67, not a single draft pick had been made, the franchise didn't even show up to draft day, because their plan was simple, build from the ground up, sign some brand new prospects, and make it a journey. Even with prospects joining the Marlins left and right, people still had their doubts. Would the Marlins be the worst expansion franchise this season? Would the Marlins be the worst VHLM franchise this season? At first, it seemed like it.

The Marlins started off piss-poor, their record was junk and the activity was very, very low. But things changed about one month into the games, it was like lightbulbs went off and things finally began to click. San Diego ran two full lines of solid activity, a ton of youth in the system and proud players among the team. Everything seemed to be clicking, and so the team began to go on a roll. Despite the roll, they had their ups and downs, they still couldn't get past the great wall of Philadelphia, and the Lochness Ottawa was still just like the monster... a mystery. Regardless, the Marlins had fun, they stayed the course, they did not want to leave the team for potential "greater" success, the team was happy. And if that isn't the definition of success in the minors, than I don't know what is.

But there still leaves a void, the Marlins have yet in their two-year existence be able to flourish and push past the first round, but that is where the management staff feel optimistic, is that if they can turn a season of nothing into something when all hope had been lost, than what possibilities wait for them in the future? Time will tell, but I can tell you it's been a hell of a ride, and it's all thanks to the team, and everyone who busted their ass for this franchise, you've made me very, very happy

If you had the opportunity to change positions from/to F, D or G, Would you?

Nope, really like my build and I can see myself going my whole career as a RW.

What other sim leagues are you involved in?

The BESL and SHL, just started over at SHL and been in the BESL for the previous 10 years. I have a different character in every league though.

    Favorite NHL team and why?

Ottawa Senators, been a fan since I was 12 and it's the closest team to my hometown.

What do you need to do to improve your game going forward?

Probably get my defense up, puck handling and skating so I can contain the puck a little easier going into the offensive zone.

Having shorter seasons was brought up recently. What do you think about this?

I'd rather not, the other leagues I'm in don't offer as many games and I like having more to check out.

Will you be going to Area 51? If you aren't, which members on the VHL do you think would actually go?

Not sure, didn't know this was going down, how much are tickets?

What have you enjoyed most about this league?
How much our team has grown since the beginning, started out wanting to join a weaker team to collect more points but ended up really enjoying my teammates and every time we get a win the locker room is turned up to full volume.

What could we improve to make your experience better?
Nothing, we just gotta continue doing what we do best and get ourselves to the highest position possible in the standings, we have the jam.. just need to keep adding peanut butter.

If you had to choose 1 player that has helped us the most who would you choose?
I'm picking two, our assistant GM has been super active and his help is appreciated. Bruce Grimaldi, kid just keep getting better.. if we didn't have him between the iron we wouldn't be sitting in 7th place.

What is 1 thing that you want the GM's to do?
Nothing, our GMs are smart enough to make their own decisions and I trust whatever moves they decide to make.

A constant debate on VHL is team forum activity and discord activity, its believed new players like discord better and don't use the site as often, is this true?
Yes and no, If I was going to check for updates I'd go on Discord and if I wanted to check out my player I'd go on the forums. Depends on the day, could be updating or just checking out how the rest of the prospects/teams are doing.

When you get drafted into the VHL what team do you want to go too?
Vancouver, I really like their logo and love the location as well, if I could get picked by them.. life made. If not, I'm down to join any team that is willing to give me ice-time in the future.

EPISODE 2 - VHLM SEASON REVIEW

We are already halfway through the season and we have seen a ton of highlights along the way, some teams have earned enough rating points to catch up in the standings while other teams have plummeted and need to change things up if they want to get a better seed in the playoffs. Chemistry has been built and players are getting comfortable with the league and we see some new and old leaders. Here's how everything looks right now.

    STANDINGS

Last time we had 3 tiers of teams formed early in the season, this time we have 4. The best teams in the 1st tier still consist of Philadelphia, Ottawa, Minnesota and Halifax but an improved and Houston joins them after going 7-2-1 in their last 10 games and are now tied with the 21st. In the 2nd tier Yukon sits alone and continue their consistent play but lack an extra goal scorer to reach the top tier. A freezing cold Saskatoon falls into the third tier and get passed by San Diego who have been outstanding of late, separating themselves and beating their counterparts multiple times since the last episode and won enough games to create the 4th and final tier of Mississauga, Mexico City and Las Vegas but this time all 3 teams are tied for dead last.

    LEAGUE LEADERS

This week we saw Ottawa's Zeno Miniti continue his hot streak and stays on top, blasting off to a different planet and takes a 13 point lead in points, falling short of the goal lead by 1 this time around but got enough helpers to tie for 1st instead. Our new goal leader is Dalton Wilcox of the Houston Bulls, scoring 29 goals on 14% shooting in 37 games. The best assisting are both new players, Philadelphia's Brandon LeBlanc who jumps ahead of the Storms needle threaders and winners of last weeks episode and an already mentioned Miniti with 44, both sit 5 above everybody else.

    DEFENSIVE MACHINES

We see a trio of new players join the defensive machine ranks with Halfiax's Pierre Persson who has continued to play well and they are, Ottawa's Anthony Hawk, Minnesota's Danny DeYeeto and Fylo Gibbles of Saskatoon. Hawk and DeYeeto have more hits than Persson and have less penalty minutes doing so, Hawk leads the league in hits with 151, 16 above the next best hitter. We see DeYeeto reach the 50 SB mark and he was one of the best shot blockers next to 1st place Gibbles who has a total of 68 w/ 89 hits.

    GOALTENDERS

Not many goaltenders performed that well and we saw a lot movement with statistics.. giving us a completely different look. instead of one goaltender dominating the league we saw Halfiax's' Thorvald Gunnarsson and Yukon's A Red Guy slide into the top spot tied for the best goaltender after matching their performances from last week, being consistent enough for their teams to be in it every game they played and weather the storm the other goalies went through. Gunnarsson is the only goalie above .900 SV% and Red Guy is the only goaltender below 2.00 GAA.

VHLM BEST PLAYER(S) OF THE EPISODE

This time around Zeno Miniti is the best player of the episode and he stunned the crowd with highlight performances which gave his team enough momentum to win games to keep them in the top tier and there's a good chance we'll see his name again next episode after separating himself from the rest of the league in points. Miniti is one of the best shooting and passing players in the league thus far and his all-around game helps his teammates, finishing and creating plays.
