Aye my name jeff reacted to Victor in Thank You Moscow!
Over 12 seasons on from announcing a VHL franchise would be coming to Moscow for the first time, GM Victor Alfredsson steps up the podium to thank all the players during his tenure....

Thank you to the OGs - not many expansion draftees made it particular far but Evgeni Komarov @Gooningitup was our 2nd captain, Paolo Nano @leafsman was our first great defenceman who sadly retired just before the cup, and Dan Baillie @wcats was and remains a Muscovite through and through and of course was there to lift the ultimate prize in S70.

Thank you to the captains - Komarov again, Mark Gebauer wherever you are, Jet Jaguar @gorlab, the franchise's first big hype man and the one that lifted the cup, Dean Clarke @Kyle, the ultimate steal who grew from dump-and-smash to one of our leaders, Nate Telker @Telkster, our other ultimate steal who became one of the best centers in the league, and Alex Letang @Spartan who has been my right-hand man in strategy and drafts for the past 3 or 4 seasons.

Thank you to all the individual stalwarts. I haven't counted it up, but I'm pretty confident that Moscow players won the most individual awards in the past 12 seasons. In addition to Jaguar, Raymond Bernard @Mr_Hatter became probably the best goalie of the generation here, Smitty @flyersfan1406 became the best defenceman in a generation, Roque Davis @Josh has taken a step towards becoming the same, Randoms @hedgehog337 became a two-way goal-scoring powerhouse, and Mikko Lahtinen @Beketov has swept home many awards for 3 seasons in a row.

And if I haven't mentioned you yet, don't worry, because I will now.
Mat Tocco @Matmenzinger your name is etched into VHL history as a cup winner and there won't be many forwards who outperform you in Moscow colours
Oskar Lagesson @fever95 unfortunately we couldn't get one last cup but you made the transition from S70 to now so much easier and are right up there with our best defencemen
Gritty @WentzKneeFan036 you and Smitty turned our fortunes around and the MOSCOW MOSCOW MOSCOW rallying cry may outlive us all
Vin Calia and Lucas Brandt @VinCal and @twists you may have not made it to the end but you were great sports when you were around. Same with Jorgon Weyed @Joubo from the previous generation.
@Will I think you're the only person who had 2 players pass through Moscow and you were here for the cup. My most loyal inactive servant x
Pietro Angellini and Cole Newhook @okifenoki and @GrittyIsKing09 - picking you two as late as I did in S72 is part of the reason I made it through 12 seasons and a big part of our continued success.
Ryo Yamazuki II @Donno100 we somehow had a patchy history because I barely missed out on Carison and then traded Yamazuki at no notice - hopefully no hard feelings though!
Fat palloon @UnkemptCL4PTP I think you story in Moscow is just starting to be written, I've greatly enjoyed watching you develop over the past few season
Killy Foilen @Aye my name jeff the unsung hero of S70 who also carried the discord LR with gorlab for many seasons
Remy Moreau @Da Trifecta it wasn't quite the Davos glory days but I'd like to think we got at least part of the way there.... thanks for your time
Aleelee Kiak @Grant I don't think you were the most active here but I was glad to see you got yourself a cup after leaving Moscow and then found a niche in Chicago - looking forward to your new player
Kris Rice, Jacob Tonn, Breeze Ladrian, Jay Jones, Ryan Schwarz @Ricer13 @MexicanCow123  @Kelsier @TTtheT @Enorama I may have only GMed you for one VHL season but what a season it was. Thanks for buying into the project and I'll see you around.

    1. We're poised to top the North American standings if we can stay hot, do you think we'll be able to end the season as the 1 seed?
Of course, we are the best team in the league hands down.

    2. How much of a trivia buff are you? Do you think you could hold your own on Jeopardy!?
I would have no chance knowing me.

    3. Word has spread that a new VHL newspaper might be in production, what do you hope they cover in some of their articles?
Me of course, or just my team in general.

    4. Gotta ask the tough question- who's your FAVORITE teammate and why?
Gorlab because he makes me graphics.

    5. Going with this weeks theme of vacations, what would you consider your dream vacation? Do you plan on going through with those ideas?
    Paris, I've been there already.

    6. What's one thing about yourself that most people don't know?
I would like to not disclose that.

    VHLM Playoffs: First Round Recap

    By fyrefly

It's playoff time in the VHLM! The top eight teams of the regular season faced off for the first round of the VHLM playoffs. The playoffs in the M are a time for capped players to give their last hurrah in the minors before heading up to the big leagues, and for freshly signed potential draftees to show off their skills before the draft. Either way, it's an exciting time. And with the Founders' Cup on the line, tensions are high and players are willing to give whatever it takes!

In this recap, I'll be summarizing each series that has been played. Watch for the spotlight on star players and predictions for the next few rounds.

Series 1: Mexico City Kings(1st seed) vs. Halifax 21st(8th seed)
Notable Performances: Dolant Fertitta(HFX), Javad Kamkar(HFX), Justin Lose(MEX), King Kruul(MEX)
This was one series that was expected to go by fast. The Kings blitzed the M in the regular season, capturing the top record with an astonishing 54 wins. But surprisingly, the 21st put up a fight. Nothing too much, only enough to stretch the series to 5 games. But enough to let everybody else in the league know that the Kings aren't invincible. But they sure are close. Justin Lose @youloser1337 was an absolute force for the Kings, putting up 4 goals and 8 points in those 5 games. Jakob Sosa @TMGSosa also contributed offensively, notching 5 assists and 7 points. From the back end, King Kruul @LefLop kept his fruitful career fruitful with 6 assists and 7 points, enough to tie for first among defenceman scoring. And then there's goaltender Markus Emerson Jr. @Xflexz, who's a rock of a goalie in between the pipes with a .872 save percentage and a 3.2 goals against average.
The 21st were a tyrant of a team last season, but experienced a crazy insane upset by the hands of the eventual champs Miami Marauders. This year, they had a much weaker team, but they managed to take a game in this series. They were largely riding the performance of superstar and shoo-in for MVP Dolant Fertitta @Dolant, who lead the playoffs in points somehow. Javad Kamker @Parriyah9374 was also a massive contributor from the blueline with five assist and six points. Poor Mike Sterling @SilverMike, who has to face the loaded Mexico offense with such a lackluster defense. He has a depressing 5.2 goals against average. Halifax also doesn't look to have the strongest team next year, as they don't have a first round pick.
    Series score: 4-1 Mexico

Series 2: Philadelphia Reapers(2nd seed) vs. Yukon Rush(7th seed)
Notable Performances: Jivere Zolnek(PHI), Jacob Carson(PHI), Tom Eagles(PHI), The great(YUK)
This was another series involving a top regular season team and a team that barely made the playoffs that was supposed to go by very fast. And unlike the prior mentioned series, it did. The Reapers executed a perfect 4-0 sweep, eliminating the Rush. A couple of top VHL draft prospects did extremely well in this series, namely Jivere Zolnek @Sixersfan549 and Tom Eagles @Greg_Di. Zolnek, after an underwhelming regular season of only 13 points, exploded against the Rush for 3 goals and 7 points in only 4 games. Eagles, on the other hand, continued what he had gotten done in the regular season. He translated his amazing 64 points into 6 points in the first round. Also worth mentioning is goaltender Jacob Carson @jacobcarson877, who had an incredible .946 save percentage and 1.25 goals against average. Pekko Viitanen @Xdjk93 also stunned the Rush with 5 assists in the series.
The Yukon Rush, in a sense, played as was expected of a team who sold at the deadline and squeaked into the playoffs. They had no real stars to rely on for points, as they traded them all away for futures. But they managed to keep the Reapers close in all but 2 of the games they played. The only really performances worth mentioning are The great @Jake Sumner, who scored 2 goals and has an astonishing 40% shooting percentage. Other than that, no one really made a difference as the Reapers changed the Rush's championship chances to 0.
    Series Score: 4-0 Philadelphia

Series 3: San Diego Marlins(3rd seed) vs. Miami Marauders(6th seed)
Notable Performances: Gunnar Odinsson(SDM), Michael Olson(SDM), Nero Endrizzi(SDM), Ryan Ryker(MIA)
Since the seeds were closer for this series, it was more than expected to be close. Miami was a decent team heading into this playoffs. But the Marlins sure proved they were the stronger team. They went all out at the deadline, and reaped necessary rewards for a long playoff run. They picked up a bunch of waiver players to fill their depth spots, and still had room for stars to fill the top spots. Some of their guys who particularly shone during this series were top VHL draft prospect Gunnar Odinsson @BOOM, who had to have raised his stock with his 6 assists and 7 points from the back end. Goaltender Michael Olson @MSO94 also made a massive difference, with a .934 save percentage and a 1.25 GAA, effectively shutting down the Miami offense. Nero Endrizzi @TurnDaddy, a player the Marlins picked up in the dispersal draft last season, also put his skills on display with 2 goals and 6 points in the series. A lot of Marlins will be heading up next season, and the Marlins used a lot of their futures acquiring all that talent, so we can expect a basement finish next season.
As I said before, the Marauders had a promising squad heading into the postseason, grabbing the 6th seed in the playoffs and securing a slightly weaker matchup in the first round. Unfortunately, it didn't work out that way. Nevertheless, they had some decent performances from some of their players. Ryan Ryker @Jayrad28 was a beast throughout the series, picking up 3 assists, 10 hits, and 3 blocked shots. Phoenix Dawson @Toastalso impressed, with 2 goals and a 33.3% shooting percentage. He will also be among the top VHL prospects. Finally, there's my old friend Cabe McJake @RedSus, who, with a goal and an assist, couldn't manage to carry the Marauders to victory. Either way, a successful season for Miami. Unfortunately, they spent a lot of their picks at the deadline, so they should sink into mediocrity for next season.
    Series Score: 4-0 San Diego

Series 4: Saskatoon Wild(4th seed) vs. Las Vegas Aces(5th seed)
Notable Performances: Lenny Sanderson(SSK), Battre Sandstrom(SSK), Jordan Tate(LVA), Linus Zetterstrom(LVA)
Well, this one had a wild finish, didn't it? Game seven OT. That doesn't happen often. And what a series. The Aces take the 3-1 lead, but the Wild come roaring back and force the final game. But the Aces came up big. Linus Zetterstrom @Ledge_and_Dairy was the man with the winner, and he notched 7 assists and 9 points in those 7 games. Also incredible was the performance of Jordan Tate @Aye my name jeff, who got 11 points and leads the playoffs in scoring right now. He and fellow deadline pickup Sheldon Juniper @fyrefly along with linemate Connor Sim @SimmerDown99 combined for 28 points in the series. Matt thunder @Matt thunder also got a point per game in the series. Overall, the Aces' deadline acquisitions made the difference for them this series. They have a bunch of clutch players that should really help in their next round series against Mexico.
The Saksatoon Wild are a playoff team, and probably a second round caliber team. But they couldn't manage to complete the comeback and knock off the Aces one last time. But they played a hell of a good series. Notably, rookie and top draft prospect Lenny Sanderson @Gally, who must have raised his draft stock with his 5 goals and 10 points. Battre Sandstrom @Acydburn , who is projected to go second overall in the VHL draft, also shone as an offensive defenceman, with 6 assists and 9 points. Other that, Vivek Weiner @coochiman got an assist per game plus a goal for 8 points. Although the Wild don't look to be strong next season, they had a really good team this season and should be proud.

This concludes the series for round one of the VHLM playoffs. For the next segment, I'll give you the next round of series plus predictions for who will win.

Series 5: Mexico City Kings(1st seed) vs. Las Vegas Aces(5th seed)
The Aces are now the underdog as they take on the potentially unstoppable Kings. The Kings will try to ride their firepower and depth that got them the best regular season record, while the Aces hope their deadline pickups and waiver players, as well as the game seven clutch that got them past the Wild, will get them over top of the Kings and onto the finals. The Kings were eliminated in the first round last season, so they're looking for a much deeper playoff run this year. The Aces were one of the top teams last season, but they were beat out in the semis by the waiver warrior Miami Marauders. For this matchup, even with my biased opinion, I feel the Kings have a team that is nearly invincible this year. I think the Aces will take them to six games, and give them a run for their money. But the talent and depth of the Kings is hard to match.
    Prediction: 4-2 Mexico

Series 6: Philadelphia Reapers(2nd seed) vs. San Diego Marlins(3rd seed)
This one I'm sure I cannot accurately predict. These two squads are so evenly matched it'd be hard to put one ahead of the other. The Reapers were a borderline playoff team last year, but were nudged out by the eventual champions Marauders in the final games of the regular season. The Marlins, on the other hand, were a basement team last season, losing out only to the lowly Minnesota Storm for bottom of the standings. They were, however, able to pick up the top two picks of the draft and select two very good players. Both teams acquired a truckload of talented players through the draft and trades, and it will be a long, tough series. But I think the sheer amount of capped players of the Reapers wil ultimately push them over the top. But not without a fight.
    Prediction: 4-3 Philadelphia

El Finale: Mexico City Kings vs. Philadelphia Reapers
These two teams were in the exact same situation as each other last year. They are in the exact same situation as each other this year, too. The Founders' Cup Finals. Against each other. It will be a battle of two teams of roughly the same skill, roughly the same depth. It will be a nail-biter, I'll guarantee you that. But looking at their rosters, and their success in these playoffs so far, I have chosen a winner. And if I can figure out how to hide a result, it'll appear down there ⬇️

That concludes my recap and predictions for the S75 VHLM Founders' Cup playoffs. For the sake of honesty, I fully expect the Philadelphia Reapers to fulfil my prophecy and win the cup. This has been fun, and I wish all contestants hope, but especially the Aces. I hope we can break my prediction and bring the Cup back to it's rightful home, Sin City! Good luck to all, and we'll see you in another month or so because this media spot is so damn long I can claim it for that long! Either way, I hope you enjoyed this. Excuse me for making this final paragraph kind of awkward, but this is how I'm filling the gap to get to 2,000 words.

Ah yes, that time of the year. Today is December 20th, and it's only 5 days away from Christmas! Which is my birthday by the way. To sum up the year, despite COVID, I'd say it's been good for me. I'm glad for this summer especially, as that was extremely beneficial for me. I'm thankful for a lot of things this year. Including the VHL, this has always been a fun place for me to come hang out. and Tate has been a huge success in my mind so far. Getting selected to Chicago was a great thing for me as well, I truly believe I can make a strong impact on that team in the future. Being traded to Las Vegas wasn't so bad as well, as now I'm on a contending team, and we are fighting for that championship. Overall, it's been a good year for me, and I hope it gets even better next year.

A press conference was called to announce that S68 draftee Ondrej Ohradka is retiring.

Ohradka read from a prepared statement:

Thank you to everyone for coming. Today, I am announcing my retirement from the VHL. I just wanted to take the time to thank some people who helped me in my career and some of the friends who I’ve met along the way.

First, I would like to thank the four organizations that I had the pleasure of playing for: the Minnesota Storm , the Saskatoon Wild , the Calgary Wranglers  and especially the Prague Phantoms . I would like to thank the management who either drafted me or traded for me and took a chance on a “first-gen”: @Rayzor_7, @Peace, @Bushito, & @diamond_ace . Of course, I need to mention that Elmebeck was the AGM of the Wild and I had the opportunity to have some Discord chats with him before he left us. He had an impact on me and I will not forget his kindness. R.I.P.

I’ve met and have conversed with lots of great people along the way but I wanted to especially say thanks to @Victor and @a_Ferk

Thanks to the VSN staff for taking a chance on me. You’ve all been great to work with and I look forward to writing more great content with you!

Then there are all the fantastic teammates who have shared a part in my career and I’d like to acknowledge as many as I can.

And finally, my Phamily – the Prague Phantoms. Thanks for making this career so enjoyable in spite of our lack of team success. The native of Trencin, Slovakia began his career as a Founder’s Cup winner with the S69 Saskatoon Wild and had one trip to the Continental Cup Finals in his rookie season with the S70 Calgary Wranglers which ended in a six-game defeat to the Moscow Menace. He also was a part of two first round losses with the Prague Phantoms in S71 and S74. Although no major awards bear his name, he has won many team awards with the Saskatoon Wild and Prague Phantoms. And up until the last part of this season, Ohradka was the Wild’s all-time leader in career goals and game-winning goals and currently holds the Phantoms’ single-season goals record with 35. He will end his career in the Top-5 of many Prague statistical categories including third in all-time goals even though he played less than six full seasons there. After being a 4th round pick and having underwhelming rookie and sophomore years in the height of the dead-puck era, Ohradka will finish his career with four consecutive seasons of 26+ goals and 50+ points. He was also an assistant captain of the Phantoms for the first and only time in his final season. He finishes with 977 TPE.

Aye my name jeff got a reaction from Spartan in Traded
With more then half the season over, I have been traded from the Hounds to Las Vegas. One of the original VHLM teams I was on with Foilen. I was quite surprised when I was traded, as I thought I was doing quite well, with my player, earning, and my LR activity. Nevertheless, I believe it is truly for the better. Although I have a smaller role on the team, I would say we are much more competitive. And GM @Spartan has been making move after move, to make sure our team stays that way. If we keep earning, we have a serious chance at winning it all, and I can't wait to be a part of that!

Aye my name jeff reacted to Ledge in Aces gearing up for a cup run
Despite Jiggs' constant threat to Spartan to bonk him if he trades picks, the Aces have managed to amass some assets that will help them with their playoff run while keeping two first round picks. They made clear that they expected to go far in the playoffs with two main trades:

First, they acquired clutch scorer, capped winger, and key part of last year's Founder's Cup champions Miami Marauders, one Sheldon Juniper, from the Yukon Rush. In exchange, the Aces gave up a S77 second rounder(not this draft but next one) and prospect player entering the dispersal draft Nathan Askarov. I think the Aces come out of this one with the W because Juniper is, however inconsistent, a clutch scorer in the playoffs and will add to the Aces' area of need, forward firepower. Also, a 2nd isn't much, and Askarov is pretty much a rental as he is entering the dispersal draft after this season.

The second trade was with another rebuilder, the Hounds. It saw the Aces receive capped top scorer Dan Dan and the league leader in hits taken/capped forward Jordan Tate, while giving up two rookie rentals in Jah Coon and Noah Mashford and  1st and 4th round picks for this season. Another win for the Aces imho, since Dan and Tate also add to our now above average firepower and giving up only depth pieces that would have been relegated to the 4th line anyway. I also think it works out for Coon and Mashford, too, since they now get ideal ice time with the barren Hounds.

Aye my name jeff reacted to Victor in Looking at Moscow's many draft steals
In an effort to prepare the general VHL populace for the inevitable, I would just like to go on record and say that I won't be Moscow's GM forever. I was not far off from calling it quits following our back-to-back trips to the finals in S70 and S71 which marked the end of our first competitive cycle, but a big activity boost from the S72 draft convinced me to aim for my initial stated goal of staying in the GM role for 10 seasons. That mark has now passed – the Menace are now in our 11th season – but as we are firmly in cup contending status I am persevering for now. However, the end is nigh, and with that comes an opportunity for some reminiscing.

It's been a whirlwind of a GM tenure, with some disappointments but a lot more pleasant surprises and great achievements. Perhaps one facet that has surprised me the most is my sudden ability to unearth gems in the later rounds of the VHL draft. It's part of the evolution of the league's recruitment and unprecedented rise in draft depth, but it nonetheless feels like Moscow has hit gold late on in the drafts more frequently than the average VHL team. That is quite a turnaround from my previous GM run in late 30s Davos where I developed a Devise-like propensity for trading all my draft picks, albeit more for 1- or 2-year-old prospects than veterans in a bid to accelerate the rebuild. It worked, but by our second cup in S38, the Dynamo had 1 homegrown player – S35 1st overall pick Lennox Moher plus my own guy (undrafted under old GM player rules), Matt Bentley. By contrast, the S70 Menace squad had 8 players drafted by me, as well as expansion draftee Dan Baillie.

So, without further ado, let's dive into some of the draft steals who, along with the big names of the Menace's young history, have made this possible.

    S66
    Mat Tocco @Matmenzinger
    Dean Clarke @Kyle

A lot of my early picks in my Moscow tenure were duds. In S65 I picked Mitch Matthews and Justin Cole with our two picks and they achieved nothing. I had also traded a 1st rounder for Mark Gebauer, whose early promise quickly fizzled out. One season in and things were not looking rosy at all, to the extent that trading my 1st overall pick for two 1st rounders was the most sensible thing to do to get some depth in the system. One of those – Dimitri Volosenkov – didn't work out either, although Jet Jaguar did in a big way. Owen May however, picked 11th overall to replace Cole as the franchise goalie, was another who flamed out early on in his career. The ratio of busts to steals was not in my favour at all.

Enter the outrageous depth of the S66 draft, until S75 quite comfortably the deepest draft in VHL history, standing at 80 players selected. I won't pretend I hit a home run on all of our picks (Edgar Tannahill, Emil Passerelli, Devin Gabella anyone?), but the two I did made an unquantifiable contirbution to Moscow's future success. I knew very little about Mat Tocco at the time of picking him at start of the 4th round, but I liked the upside of a quiet guy going about his business and picking up TPE very efficiently. He'd retire with 1,000 TPE and already by his 3rd season I was so keen that he wouldn't jump ship to Prague at some point that I signed him to a lifetime contract. Dean Clarke on the other hand was a punt on Kyle, a guy who joined the VHL pretty much the same time as me some 11 years ago, but who hadn't made a good player in about half that time. He would go on to spend his whole career in Moscow, becoming team captain in S73, and providing the assist for Smitty's overtime cup winner in S70.

Tocco and Clarke sit 5th and 6th in Moscow's all-time scorers, both in the regular season and playoffs, and were very cap-friendly and key pieces of our best seasons – Tocco the 2nd line sniper who got an All-VHL Second Team nod in S70 and Clarke the right-hand man to Smitty on the top defensive pairing. To say they were crucial to Moscow's success would probably be an understatement.

    S68
    Nate Telker @Telkster
Killy Foilen @Aye my name jeff

Other than Jaguar and the two studs above, the first 3 Moscow drafts didn't provide much to the future cup-winning roster. Then in S68, I struck gold in a big way, on a draft day in which I made a whopping 4 trades which have effectively come down to trading Luciano Valentino for Raymond Bernard, Will Clarke, Oskar Lagesson, Nate Telker, and Killy Foilen. Not a half bad haul if you ask me.

Only 5 S68 draftees have won the Continental Cup – the Menace drafted 3 of them. While Bernard was a slam dunk franchise goaltender pick at the third time of asking (with an assist from Davos picking Samuel Ross one pick ahead of him), the two forwards picked in the 3rd round were far from guarantees. Telker was almost a carbon copy of the Tocco pick – a late joiner whose trajectory was better than many players' picked ahead of him but who slipped on account of a low TPE total (127 on draft day, lower than 13 players drafted later). However, I gambled by letting DC have a chance on Telker with the pick before, all because the pick before that was Foilen, a guy generate a lot of activity in the draft chat.

In their own ways, both proved indispensable in the Menace's future. Telker was a sophomore and Foilen a rookie in S70, splitting time as the third wheel in the Randoms-Jaguar bromance, but that forward depth proved essential in our march to the cup. Foilen sadly never quite broke out following early retirement, but I'm sure he would have had I not traded him in S72. Telker on the other hand has been a loyal servant for his whole career, now captain for 2 seasons, and another who hit 1,000 TPE, playing out his last couple of seasons as very much a leader and not a depth piece.

    S69
    Oskar Lagesson @fever95

In a way, S69 was a continuation of the S68 draft flurry, as both our picks of note – Clarke and Lagesson – were acquired then. It also wasn't nearly as deep a draft as the previous few, with the quality dying out after the 2nd round, and while Clarke may have won 3 cups with 3 teams in his first 3 seasons, I'm not sure he really qualifies as a steal retiring with 401 TPE as a 13th overall pick.

Lagesson on the other hand was drafted just about late enough to make the cut. Splitting time with Clarke (Will, not Dean) as the depth defencemen in S70, he has since become the new Clarke (Dean, not Will) as the steady, reliable presence on defence, an essential piece of the modern cup contender. Fittingly, like Clarke (of the Dean variety), Lagesson was the return of a member with previous great players, but some 20-30 seasons removed from his prime. I'm pleased that Moscow has proven a place for comebacks of two fine members who I believe will be sticking around for a while this time around.

    S72
    Cole Newhook @GrittyIsKing09
    Pietro Angellini @okifenoki

The next two drafts were low on both quality and quantity for Moscow, as we pushed on full speed ahead for that maiden championship. The prospect pool was drying up and I was relatively certain a full scale rebuild was on the horizon. Instead, the S72 draft (the first one I was present for since S68) went so well that the rebuild became a retool and we were back in cup contender status by S74. The big names in the S72 draft were Alex Letang and Lucas Brandt, who remain key pieces today, while Vin Calia was also acquired just before the draft to former the new young core. What really made the draft for Moscow and propelled us to the league's best prospect pool by the following season was the picks from the 3rd round onwards.

Cole Newhook was straight from the Telker/Tocco playbook, the classic case of late joiner who was more keen to earn more than just the bare minimum welfare. The rise from 79 TPE on draft day to 411 today is a clear success story and Newhook is also the heartbeat of Moscow's forum presence, in the locker room and just around the league. Pietro Angellini I can barely take any credit for, as there were two players who I expected to fall to the penultimate pick of the draft, of whom I knew one would go to Prague with the pick before. Prague therefore dictated which one of Ernie King and Angellini we got and boy am I happy they gave us Angellini. From 47th overall, he is now 20th overall in TPE among S72 draftees and still rising, while become a key component of our forward core. Newhook and Angellini are clearly essential to our continuing playoff streak (now aiming for 7 straight seasons).

    S73-present
Since S72, I have again not been able to make it to a few drafts and have delegated that responsbility to a combination of Spartan and Hatter (mainly the latter), the unofficial Moscow brain trust. Although I have been involved in initial scouting, VHL drafts are highly unpredictable, especially in the later rounds, as my own experiences in S66, S68, and S72 proved. Therefore, some of our finest picks in Fat Palloon (S73), Breeze Ladrian (S74), and the host of late S75 selections have actually had little input from me, which is appropriate I think in this passing-of-the-torch phase of my GM tenure. Here's hoping that these recent selections live up to the now-established tradition of Moscow draft steals.

Hi guys. In this article, I'll be introducing the Chicago Phoenix Prospects. Those that are still in the VHLM but are drafted by us. I thought it would be nice as the AGM to highlight some of these wonderful people that are the future of the team. I hope this isn't stupid like the previous article I wrote.. Enjoy!

    Kloxified @Kloxified – 267 TPE
A goalie that is has played all his minor games for Yukon has been a pleasure to watch as he develops. By the end of the season, he’ll have close to 12,000 MP under his belt. This is an unbelievable feat that many can’t achieve with their time in the minors. His stats are weird to see actually. Klox has never had a SV% above 0.9 but has done tremendously well last season with 52 wins and his career lowest GAA of 2.34. His time in Chicago will be important for his development as well. For a short time, Klox will likely be backing up the Chicago legend, Camus but with time he’ll be able to take some load off of Camus. Chicago will have a powerful tandem between the pipes!

    Darius Marimoto @dariusmarimotoman – 229 TPE
His earning has been slowing down recently, changing from PT earning to welfare. This will certainly affect the speed of his development but his stats and performance is anything but bad. Darius was a 52nd overall pick for Chicago which is definitely a steal! He’s active in discord and his minor team, Philly’s locker room. Darius oddly has never been a consistent earner but never fails to put up the points in games. Bobo expressed that he has intentions to come up for S76 which will help the team tremendously. Darius has seen himself play PP minutes but PK minutes and he has 7 points on the man advantage. Not too bad I would say! Darius only has 94 shots this season so far. He doesn’t shoot much on ice but that comes with a low scoring rating.

Marimoto has a great build that will see him be able to score and make sick set up passes for his line mates. He will easily be able to play on the 3rd line when he comes up and with time, he’ll see himself play on the second line as well. Regardless of the line he is on, Darius will be a key player on Chicago for sure.

    Steve Eso @Eso – 214 TPE
Eso, the captain of the Saskatoon Wild has just eclipsed 100 games! Congrats buddy! Eso has never had an off season, performing in every season for every team he played on. Eso is an asset for his team in every situation. Powerplay, D-zone, O-zone and even short-handed. He also had his first career hat-trick! What a season for the guy, you can’t deny it! With 639 faceoffs taken, he can certainly work on his faceoffs but his scoring and playmaking capabilities is what sets him apart. Eso can do both equally well. With 92 shots taken and 12 of them ending up at the back of the net, his shooting percentage is a good 13.04%. A reliable centreman that Chicago will have in the lineup in the future as well.

I believe he’ll play well on a line with a veteran and Darius but only time will tell. His line mate should be one that can set him up for goals but also someone that can score. A lot to ask for but that’s why a line has 5 players. Eso has a lot of potential and picking him up from the draft is a huge addition to the team in the future.

Jordan Tate @Aye my name jeff – 223 TPE
The Mississauga centre also recently eclipsed 100 games in the minors. Jordan has improved in so many ways and his potential is high. Jordan is rather all round as well with a lethal shot, pinpoint passing accuracy and great reaction time for FO wins. He has a 60.39% face off % which helps his team in the O-zone to continuously keep the pressure up. Jordan has seen time on the PP and PK where he also contributed a lot. Tate should see himself graduating to the big leagues next season and Chicago will be ready to have him.

I can see him playing with Eso and Darius but this will depend on who moves up and line chemistry. Tate’s earning is also rather consistent with affiliate PT being his main source of income. It will be interesting to see how he can grow further with his remaining time in the VHLM.

    Maksym Jankowski @Max12 - 143 TPE
The Minnesota winger is in his VHLM rookie season after being drafted 87th overall. A good place for development, Maksym will likely spend at least 2 seasons there. It’s still too early to tell if he’s a playmaker or a sniper but I wouldn’t shunt his capabilities. With 13 points in 20 games, his playing style certainly fits in to the team. Maksym has found himself on the PP and PK but has barely had point contributions. Maksym is the highest TPE player on his team but is still trying to find his grip playing on the 1st and 3rd line.

All in all, Maksym has a bright future as a potential 3rd liner on Chicago with his current rate of earning. However, anything can happen and things might turn around for the better. His development in Minnesota is crucial for his future of playing in the VHL.

New Player @I'll change this later– 151 TPE
New Player has significantly changed to be a playmaker this season with 13 assists. He was drafted by Mississauga at 40th overall and Chicago at 69th overall. His playing style can’t be confirmed yet as his SC and PA ratings are still the same. Just like his fellow friend Maksym, he’ll likely stay with the Hounds in S76 for another season of development. The Hounds is a great place for developing into great players as their history suggests. New Player is exceptional in the D-zone. 7 SB for him and he’s already passed his career record. Forwards that are reliable in the D-zone is a great asset to any team and he’s exactly that.

With the wicked accuracy he has, he’ll be an amazing playmaker if he’s intention is to be one. However, no one would reject a goal scorer to help the team out right? Just like all the other, his development would be one to look out for as he strives to help the team out.

    Yuuto Kira Cloudera @kentakira – 200 TPE
Yuuto was traded to San Diego after 2 seasons with Minnesota. Yuuto is a pass first D-man and can be helpful when paired with a offensive line of scorers. Even though Yuuto is a welfare earner, he has made it to 200 TPE however I do question how well he’ll be able make the jump to the VHL. His stats doesn’t prove good things as a veteran of the VHLM now with him never being able to dominate in the league. He has been steadily improving by the season and that lessens my worry. One shocking part of Yuuto’s play so far is that all his goals are on the PP. A difficult thing to do for a D-man but he did it! Another great feat by Yuuto was winning the Founders cup in his rookie season. Many don’t get to enjoy that fairy tale journey.

Yuuto’s future might seem unsure right now but his VHL season should be around the corner. His rookie season might not be a banger but this young prospect will be able to contribute well enough too. He also has 52 TPE banked up which might show inactivity of some sort but I’m optimistic.

That about sums up the Chicago Phoenix prospects! We’ve got an optimistic group of young and talented hockey players ready to show their skills on the big stage. I’m looking forward to seeing them wear the Chicago unis one day and it’s not far away.

I ran the numbers and found the most exciting game of the VHLM season. Here is an in-depth review of that game.
Game 11 - Halifax 21st vs. Mississauga Hounds

This early season battle between two teams in the bottom half of the standings may be a surprising candidate for the game of the season, but this game featured lots of shots, multiple lead changes, and a ton of exciting opportunities. Let’s dive into it.
    1st Period
The action starts right away with each team trading shots in the opening minute. Mississauga forward New Player @I'll change this later takes a smart holding penalty to prevent a fast break after a turnover by teammate Gustav Hjalmarsson. @McLovin Halifax opens their powerplay with a nice sequence that led to a scoring chance. Ramarod Ramirez @Ominous fired a shot from the top of the right circle. Grayson Slansky @GSlansky tipped the shot, which cause Mississauga goalie Luke Spinelli @Lspinelli to lose control of the rebound. Javad Kamkar @Parriyah9374 fired the rebound into Spinelli’s outstretched glove. Halifax wasted much of the remainder of the powerplay including committing two icings. The second of which saw an errant pass by Halifax star Dolant Fertitta @Dolant turn into an icing. Mississauga capitalized on the error, with Jordan Tate @Aye my name jeff winning the faceoff in the Halifax zone, steering the puck back to line mate Eeli Rantanen, @Jolline and deflecting Rantanen’s shot into the net for a shorthanded goal! Mississauga Hounds, Jordan Tate 1 (Eeli Rantanen 2) at 2:19 (SH) - Halifax 21st : 0 - Mississauga Hounds : 1.
A couple minutes later, a holding penalty by Dan Dan @MMFLEX puts Halifax on the powerplay. Halifax spent no time messing around on this powerplay with a great solo effort from Ramarod Ramirez who received a pass from Clinton Giftopoulos @Thranduil in the neutral zone. Ramirez took the pass and made a beeline for the Mississauga goal. A nice move sent Spinelli sprawling and Ramirez flipped it in to the open net for a powerplay goal. Halifax 21st, Ramarod Ramirez 3 (Clinton Giftopoulos 2) at 4:58 (PP) - Halifax 21st : 1 - Mississauga Hounds : 1
Mississauga took no time to respond. They stormed into the Halifax end and saw the end of a wild sequence which included a puck getting deflected off the post, a big rebound, and some fancy passing in close quarters all lead to Mississauga Hounds, Eeli Rantanen 1 (β-MIS D6 1, β-MIS C2 1) at 5:22 - Halifax 21st : 1 - Mississauga Hounds : 2
It took Halifax 2 minutes and 39 seconds to respond to the opening Mississauga goal. They improved their time, tying it up with a goal exactly 2 minutes after Mississauga’s. This goal saw Empty @StamkosFan capitalize on some strong pressure from Halifax’s 4th line. Empty was able to grab a puck left by teammate Nolan Fowler and wrist it home. Halifax 21st, Empty 1 (Nolan Fowler 1, Ramarod Ramirez 1) at 7:22 - Halifax 21st : 2 - Mississauga Hounds : 2
Halifax kept up the pressure for the next couple of minutes. Ultimately it led to a very nice sequence between Dolant Fertitta and Theodore James St Louis @Nick Kirkpatrick which culminated in Fertitta slamming home the puck after a St Louis shot missed the net. Halifax 21st, Dolant Fertitta 2 (Theodore James St Louis 2, Videl Valor 2) at 15:04- Halifax 21st : 3 - Mississauga Hounds : 2

The period ends with Halifax leading 3-2.

    2nd Period

Both teams must have enjoyed the intermission because they both came out flying to open the 2nd period. Bep @bep3788showed off their great positioning and fast hands as they grabbed the puck off of a shot blocked by The Blob @JorgTheGoat03 and fired it home before anyone figured out that he even had the puck! Halifax 21st, Bep 1 (Dolant Fertitta 1, Theodore James St Louis 3) at 1:16- Halifax 21st : 4 - Mississauga Hounds : 2
Never a team to wait around, Mississauga returned the favor 37 seconds later. Eeli Rantanen was everywhere on this shift, winning the faceoff, passing and moving, moving and passing. Finally Mississauga got the look they were after and fired a shot on goal. Rantanen was in the perfect spot to deflect the shot past Halifax’s goalie, Mike Sterling @SilverMike. Mississauga Hounds, Eeli Rantanen 2 (β-MIS C3 1, β-MIS D6 2) at 1:53 - Halifax 21st : 4 - Mississauga Hounds : 3.
After a couple minutes of non-scoring boringness, Halifax flashed a display of fantastic hockey. They had a perfect breakout thanks to a Videl Valor @ValorX77take-away. Valor moved the puck to Theodore James St Louis who left it in the neutral zone for Dolant Fertitta. Fertitta did the rest from there, moving into the Halifax end and sliding one home. Halifax 21st, Dolant Fertitta 3 (Theodore James St Louis 4, Videl Valor 3) at 10:11 - Halifax 21st : 5 - Mississauga Hounds : 3
Mississauga’s high pressure in the offensive zone caused a turnover from Halifax defenseman Javad Kamkar. Jordan Tate took the puck and executed a perfect tic-tac-toe play with Gustav Hjalmarsson and Dan Dan. Once, Jordan Tate received the puck, he fired it home, closing the gap to one goal. Mississauga Hounds, Jordan Tate 2 (Dan Dan 1, Gustav Hjalmarsson 2) at 15:49- Halifax 21st : 5 - Mississauga Hounds : 4
The period ends with Halifax leading 5-4.

    3rd Period
Why waste fresh ice? I think that’s what Mississauga was saying as they returned to the ice to start the final period because they wasted no time bringing the game back level. Mississauga picked up the scent of the Halifax goal and were buzzing all around it. A missed shot by New Player gets picked up by Jordan Tate who has his shot blocked. That loosed puck is picked up by Dan Dan and he slams it home! Mississauga Hounds , Dan Dan 3 (Jordan Tate 1, New Player 2) at 0:32 - Halifax 21st : 5 - Mississauga Hounds : 5
I guess the teams got sick of scoring even strength goals because they each decided to commit a penalty and give the other team a powerplay. Halifax was up with first with a high sticking penalty from Kate Upton @OscarTheSwagDude. Mississauga took advantage of this opportunity scoring less than 30 seconds after the penalty. R  was able to pick up a loose puck and rifle it into the next to give Mississauga their first lead since early in the 1st period.  Mississauga Hounds , R 2 (Feenixx Rising 3, Dan Dan 2) at 11:50 (PP) - Halifax 21st : 5 - Mississauga Hounds : 6. It didn’t take long for Halifax to return the favor thanks to a hooking penalty on β-MIS D1. Also needing less than 30 seconds, Halifax tied up the game again with a great shot by Clinton Giftopoulos. Halifax 21st, Clinton Giftopoulos 2 (Ramarod Ramirez 2, Grayson Slansky 2) at 12:35 (PP)- Halifax 21st : 6 - Mississauga Hounds : 6

    Overtime
Halifax was able to kill off a late penalty to keep the game tied and send us to overtime. Halifax had all the pressure and all the shots on goal during the overtime period. Mississauga has their goalie, Luke Spinelli, to thank for playing great during overtime, keeping the game tied, and sending us to a shootout.

Despite the Hounds not being at their best in this moment, I have been balling this year in my opinion. I believe I have 30+ total points on the year, and that's a great start to this season, better then last year when I was on 2nd line. I'm excited for this opportunity, and I seriously hope that we can pick our shit up before the season ends. We really need to go on a run and show that the type of team we are, the one right now is down in the dumps, and I know we can be doing better. It's up to us to make the chance, and become better teammates, which in turn, will turn us to a better team!

Ah yes, we finally made it, drafted to Chicago! That's what I like, I'm grateful to be here, and I know we have a bright future, especially with me @gorlab on the squad. There's a lot of good VHL Community members on that team, and I'm proud to be there with them. GM @JeffD has done an excellent job, and I feel that it's going to be a good year. I'm gonna stay down in the VHLM for one more season, and I'm passing 200 TPE this week, I can sense it's going to be a great year! Back to 12 a week of course, my favorite part of being in Chicago is for sure the LR, it's active, and welcoming to prospects. Until next time!

Well, a 4-0 sweep is not what I was expecting. Still, it really was a terrific run, and we did all we could in the end. That's all one could ask for, knowing I'll be back in the VHLM next year, and I'll be even better then before. The VHL draft is tommorow, and I'm so excited about getting drafted! I've gotten more draft letters then I can count, and it really seems like a team's are willing to take a chance on me. I've informed most GMs I want to spend another year in the M before making my debut, I feel my development would benefit a lot from that. But overall, I feel like I will go in that 3rd or 4th round section, either way, I can't wait to make whatever sort of impact I can!
