Hello!! Welcome to the [almost] offseason, VHL!

I'm looking to make some changes to the way we run VHFL in the coming seasons, so I'll be using this sign-up thread to gage interest and see whether those changes will be worthwhile! I haven't fleshed out all the details for these concepts yet, so if you have ideas for tweaking them, please include that in your response. If you don't really have an opinion on how we run VHFL, that's fine! You don't have to vote!

    First: Champions groups

Individuals who either won a group or were at the top of user rankings in the previous season may have an opportunity to participate in a champions group. This would increase the degree of competition when drafting, open up opportunities for other users to take first in a group, and give massive bragging rights to whomever wins the Champions group. Rather than the same handful of users smashing everyone else each season, I think it could be interesting to see them go head-to-head.

    Second: House rules

Any user may join a group with house rules. I don't know how many of these groups there would be since I'm not sure of how many people will be interested in participating, but likely no more than 3-5 at max. Essentially, each group has the opportunity to conduct a draft with altered rules. For example, drafting 6 defensemen, only VHLM players, or only rookies. The GM role in these groups would be even more important than usual, as you would be responsible for making sure that the groups is properly following the rules.

    This season:

I'm requesting for a handful of people to serve as potential fillers; we won't need more than 5. When this thread closes, I'll do a last call for anyone interested in signing up. However, instead of going around to all the servers I'm in and begging people to join so that I have a number divisible by 6, folks who sign up as fillers would draft a second roster (not for TPE) to fill those spots. These are not the same as DQ rosters, which I will continue to manage. I'm hoping that filler rosters will cut down on the amount of people getting disqualified since I'm not pulling teeth for them to participate.

Say that Blazzer signs up to be a filler. When I go to my random group generator, there will be two names for her: Blazzer and Blazzer (filler). The fillers will be spread out across the league, not all in one group.

    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

To sign up for S76 VHFL, where the only change will be the inclusion of fillers as necessary, please simply reply to this thread.

The group manager position is the same. Group Managers are responsible for ensuring that users are making valid picks within their allotted time limit. Group Managers receive 1 additional TPE at the end of the season. If you are interested in being a Group Manager, please be sure to include that in your response.

This thread will lock soon after FA opens. Once the offseason schedule has been posted, I'll edit this post with a specific time and date.

Playoff hockey is always exciting. The crowds grow larger and louder, locker room tensions grow, and play on the ice just seems so much more intricate and precise. However, only one team can come out happy during playoffs, and for S75 the happy team is the Philadelphia Reapers, under the management of @DMaximus and @dariusmarimotoman

As playoffs begin, and teams begin being eliminated, changes start coming. As S75 closes out, a major announcement came out from VHLM Commissioners: 10 seasons ago the San Diego Marlins named their first General Manager, @InstantRockstar. We have come to announce that @InstantRockstar has officially stepped down from his position.

This news certainly came as quite a shock, but we were equally shocked and excited to learn that a relatively new face in the VHL was taking the reigns in San Diego, @thadthrasher

Again, we extend congratulations to Thadius Sales and wish him luck in San Diego!

Congrats. Can’t wait to see a video presser for the Marlins.

  3. I love this q/a style of writing. well formatted, written, and edited. I couldn't really spot any kind of mistakes. I also love how you took your stats over Welch's career and implemented them into the Q/As for management to see, it's a nice added touch. The graphic at the top is really cool too; a nice touch, yet it brings the whole piece together.

    FINAL RATING: 10/10.

Really good write up and love the details. I always like to hear how others think of my team from the outside. This team was a blast to be on and everyone made it special to be on. To bad we couldn’t pull it off for Ir. Thanks for the tag!

Thanks for the review. I appreciate your kindness. You’re welcome :)

  5. Close But No Cigar: San Diego Marlins S75

WRITTEN AND EDITED BY DARIUS MARIMOTO

Since the Marlins held the third place seat in the VHLM league overall this season, the team had high expectations from fans and critics alike heading into this season’s playoffs. If they did so well in the regular season, and not so well in the playoffs, the media asked, “What went wrong?”

Well, today I am here to tell you what went wrong with the Marlins this season, and what led to legendary SDM GM Rockstar resigning in San Diego, to pursue better opportunities in the VHL. Let’s begin where this sequence of events started, the regular season.

THE REGULAR SEASON FOR THE MARLINS:

This year, the Marlins were expected to dominate from the beginning, after drafting franchise defensemen Cowboy Prout and Scotty Kaberle first and second overall to lead their charge for the title. Prout alone put up quite the show on the statsheet with 91 points (22 goals and 69 assists) in 72 games played. He also put up an impressive 125 shots blocked. These numbers alone can explain why this defenseman was a key part to their success in the playoffs. Kaberle’s numbers are even better than Prout’s, with 103 points (27 goals and 76 assists) in 72 games played. He put up an impressive 106 shots blocked. These two remarkable defensemen played exceptionally well on the first defensive pair. They weren’t just dominant on the blue line, their forwards also brought the heat. One that stands out of the rest is Nero Endrizzi. He put up a remarkable 102 points (44 goals, 58 assists) and led their team in goals. He was backed up by LW Kaladin Kvothe and RW Red Lite, who both put up respectable numbers. Kvothe put up 29 points (15 goals and 14 assists) in 72 games; Lite put up 97 points (48 goals and 49 assists). Red Lite stood out more than Kvothe on the stats sheet, but both still played well enough on their positions. Let’s now look in net.

For the Marlins, one goalie led the charge; Michael Olson. He put up a remarkable 51-19-2 record with a .896 save %, 2.64 GAA, and four shutouts. For being their only option in the crease (that I could find), he put up very good numbers. He was drafted 37th OVR back in ‘74, so I believe that’s a great pickup for them.

MARLINS’ REGULAR SEASON RECORD: 51-19-2, 104 POINTS, 2ND PLACE IN THE WESTERN CONFERENCE.

    THE PLAYOFFS FOR THE MARLINS:

The playoffs for San Diego can only be described by one phrase, “Close, but no cigar.” Led by former GM Rockstar, and current AGM Moose, The San Diego Marlins were so close to the finals, yet they fell to the Reapers in five games, losing the last one by a close score of 1-0. As a result of this loss, GM at the time Rockstar has decided to resign from SDM after being the GM there for nine seasons. He made quite the lasting mark there in SD, making it as far as the semi-finals, but never winning any championships. He’s said that he wants to pursue other opportunities in the VHL management world. Anyways, looking back at the playoffs, the Marlins had some impressive firepower, sweeping the defending champs of the VHLM; the Miami Marauders. Their leading scorer was without surprise, top center Nero Endrizzi with 12 points (5 goals and 7 assists) in 9 games. Defenseman Gunnar Oddison was very productive too, putting up 11 points (2 goals and 9 assists) in nine games, alongside fellow defenseman Scotty Kaberle, who put up 9 points (2 goals and 7 assists) in nine games. Their roster was pretty well-rounded in all positions overall, and their goalie Michael Olson was great too, putting up a record of 5-3-1, a save % of .903, 2.40 GAA, and no shutouts.

MARLIN’S PLAYOFF RECORD: 5-4, WON AGAINST MIAMI IN THE QUARTER-FINALS 4-0, LOST AGAINST PHILADELPHIA 4-1 IN THE SEMI-FINALS.

*Footnote: It was a shorter article than usual sure, but it was fun to write. The VHLM will miss Rockstar as the GM of SD, but his legacy will not be forgotten.

New questions for week ending 1/3.

    1)      The Reapers swept Yukon in the opening round of the playoffs. How do you think the series went?

I believe that it went very well. The boys were buzzing; the crowd was cheering; we got those Ws.

    2)      Everyone agrees that playoff hockey is at another level. What is your favorite part of playoff hockey?

My favorite part has to be the fans. They make every game worth it, and they bring the energy!

    3)      The Reapers will face the San Diego Marlins in the next round. How do you think it will go?

It'll be an uphill battle for sure, but we can take them. They're just another opponent.

    4)      The Marlins are led by their top defensive pair, Scotty Kaberle and Cowboy Prout, along with center Nero Endrizzi and forwards Red Lite and Maksim Yakolevsky. Anything you want to say to them or any other Marlin?

We miss you Red Lite, and wave goodbye to your season, it doesn't have much more time left in it. See ya on the ice. :)

    5)      The Reaper fan club left a Christmas gift for you at your locker. What was it?

I got a Microphone (for my new podcast, of course).

    6)      Our organist is looking for new songs to play on the organ. What is your suggestion? Why?

Highway to the Danger Zone. That song kicks heavy ass. That's my reasoning why, mr. Maximus.

(sorry my graphics aren't working for some reason :()

This is a well-written article. I love the breakdown for each of the players to show what the changes have done and the way they performed before. I also like how you displayed the net assets and picks lost/gained at the bottom. Overall, I think this is a very good article, definitely would recommend it to others, 9.5/10.

Cheers! Thanks for the positive feedback.

What he is trying to say is that you are better off capping at 250 TPE and playing another season in the VHLM before trying to make the jump into the VHL; which majority of us did this season. We all capped early and some where right at the limit even when being drafted but since you can bank your TPE and apply it all at one time; it is better to play two season in the VHLM and then apply all your TPE for the start of the third season and Rookie season in the VHL. (Man do I waffle on when I am tired)

This will be something you and whom every drafts you in the VHL and the Reapers will need to decide but most likely they will want to you to bank and stay in the VHLM for another season. Since the Reapers only have four draft picks in this years draft you will play a huge role for the team next season along with (S75) RW - Thomas King (S76) C - Jivere Zolnek (S75) C - Kjell Nilsson (S75) LW - Blim Blam McFluble and (S76) D - Robin Galante Nilsson.

Maybe even have (S75) D - Bob Tristan stick around and the team has a good core to build off. This will allow your player a lot more playing minutes while developing longer but also expect to be trade if the team starts to fall out of the play-offs.

Yes exactly. You’ll be played a lot more this season, so it’s best to just stay around and play one more season of minor hockey.
