    Ice and hockey #003

Welcome back again to read Ice and hockey.

The off-season is running hot and now the draft is in the history book. Whole community is almost ready to start the season 75. Both VHL and VHLM teams are getting really strong. Big draft class has made the teams go big and build a teams that can stand even the winter of Siberia.

Ice and hockeys sponsor player Teppo McBighit was drafted to Riga Reign. I had a conversation with Reigns GM @hedgehog337 about their draft.

    1. First of all what do you think about the off-season organisation, did you like how it was mane and how was the schedule?
-The draft schedule was a bit tough for me because I'm European. So I had to draft players deep in the night (3-6 AM). But hey, not the first time I'm doing this so this is just a minor inconvenience. The other events are less important for me since my main focus was the draft.

    2. Tell something about your 1st overall pick.
-I didn't have the first overall pick. But my first pick was Cabe McJake. The member behind this player was very active in forums and I saw that he's really in it. And this pick was fitting in my plans since my idea to make a team from first-gens. He looks a solid scoring player, something that our organization will appreciate.

    3. Did you draft player to that you contacted or did you just have random selections?
-Mostly of them were contacted (first 6 rounds). Then I was just searching for potential steals.

    4. You have drafted Teppo Mcbighit, Ice and Hockey's sponsor player. Why did you pick him?
-I think we could use a good ol' physical defenseman which Teppo McBighit will surely be for us. And the member behind this player is also is a steady TPE earner so we will like this pick.

    5. Las one. What are your thoughts about the S75 draft class?
-Huge as hell. There was a reason why I made a firesale and collected as much S75 picks as possible.

I got really good answer and was pleased how the Reign had their draf picks really scouted. Now we will only see how far can they go in the next season.

Based on seeing how BOG discuss awards and vote on them I have never remotely seen proof of any BOG member trying to gain themselves more TPE from predictions. All they do is discuss based on the stats and vote based on the discussions.

I also don’t care for the rhetoric of “these active guys in the league who do a bunch, for free, to improve the league deserve to get less for their efforts.

Like I said, I don’t think it’s a problem that needs a solution but if we were to do anything it would probably be that BOG a guys automatically get the average return instead of getting nothing but honestly I’d wager that most of them would likely go up if that were the case. Out of curiosity, how did the BOG members do on predictions this year to even warrant this?

I can definitely see arguments for both sides. Personally, I agree with @Beketov that there's no appetite at this time to remove/reduce welfare, considering how much of the community relies on it and the overall benefit outweighing the negatives.

I do wonder if maybe having a cap on welfare TPE during a career may be worth looking into. If we hard capped welfare at, say, 200 TPE during a career, that would still work out to 50 weeks, which, on an average of 8-8.5 wks/season works out to approx. 6 seasons worth of claims in a career that can be as long as 9.5 seasons. Means that in order to keep making a difference in the depreciation seasons, the user would need to start submitting PTs, or they could also retire early and start over. Either way, this could be a bit of a solution, and also be more realistic in the "Welfare" sense.

*This would also not apply to pensioners like @der meister who have spent years in the league on previous players.

Although I still plan to stay in the VHLM and play another season for the Miami Marauders, I would first like to start off by giving my general manager Kris Rice a shoutout for being the best GM I have had so far since I've joined this league. Krice has been very helpful to me and many other teammates with finding out how to earn the most TPE possible and always updating his teammates about potential free TPE they can earn. Although I am not personally very active on discord, from time to time I will check in, and I always see the encouraging words from Ricer. He always has the press conference up at the beginning of the week which I personally love because I like to earn all my TPE within the first few days of the week, and he always makes it easy to find in discord, along with trivia, and other job opportunities. I am very excited to begin my career with the New York Americans, however I'll be sad to be leaving the Miami Marauders after this upcoming season. I'm so glad I got to be a part of a special playoff run and help the Miami Marauders become VHLM champions. I am hoping for a great last season in the VHLM with them as well, which can hopefully see us repeat what we did.

'Twas the night of the VHL Entry draft, and in the second round, there was a 25% chance that, if you were selected in that round, you would go to the Riga Reign, who had an abominable amount of picks in the draft. Linus Zetterstrom was one of those picks, and he is joining a rebuild that will be surprising if it doesn't yield a championship. Here are some of the talent that Riga drafted:

Cabe McJake, 1st round, 7th overall
Addison McLaren, 1st round, 8th overall
Dolant Fertitta, 1st round, 10th overall
Joe Kelly, 1st round, 12th overall
Sirkants Klamasteris, 1st round, 14th overall
Justin Lose, 2nd round, 26th overall
Linus Zetterstrom, 2nd round, 27th overall
Artair McCloud, 2nd round, 28th overall
Vivek Weiner, 2nd round, 32nd overall
Isau DaMoose, 3rd round, 38th overall
Teppo McBighit, 3rd round, 42nd overall
Andy Nexber, 4th round, 52nd overall
Connor Sim, 4th round, 58th overall
Liam Fischl, 4th round, 59th overall
Nikolas DAndrea, 4th round, 64th overall
Jared Carter, 6th round, 87th overall
Eddie Dams, 6th round, 90th overall
Hi Hello, 6th round, 94th overall
Matthew A Sovick Jr., 7th round, 106th overall

Nineteen picks! Holy crap! Hedgehog pretty much sold his entire team to load up for this deep, deep draft, and it seems to have worked magnificently. McJake and McLaren are two TPE-earning monster first-gens who look like steals even at 7 and 8. Fertitta and Kelly are good, solid guys you can depend on to have a career in the VHL, Klamasteris will be the goalie of the future, Lose, Zetterstrom, McCloud, and Weiner look like potential quality depth picks, DaMoose, McBighit, and Nexber all have massive potential, Sim, Fischl, and DAndrea are long-term fliers who could end up great, Carter and Dams are 6th round fliers, and Hello and Sovick are the backup option for goalies.

Great job, hedgehog, it looks like you got a whole bunch of unique talent in this draft. Watch as this group slowly makes it's way into VHL stardom.

    1) 5-1 is obviously a good start so I think we have a chance! Saturn is probably the best team in the tournament so we just have to beat them when it counts.

    2) Poor Dimmadome, I think he's still recovering from that 38-shot third period. I don't have a good answer for you I'd just have to destroy that footage before Riga sees it...

    3) Well we've got the best goalie in the ProAm in Jacob Tonn, and Venus was clutch in our biggest game of the tournament so far, but I gotta go with Bot 15

    4) I think both of my teams, Philly & Riga, had great drafts. Philly looks set up nicely to make a run in the VHLM this year and Riga had like a quarter of the picks in the entire draft so. Got a bunch of my Miami boys with me in Riga, plus Dolant, Kelly, Zetterstrom, Lose, Sim... and of course a stud goalie in Klamasteris. I'm probably forgetting someone, we took so many players, but definitely excited to be a part of Riga.

Sheldon Juniper in the late second round for steal of the VHLM draft. Ryan Ryker in the late third round for steal of the VHL draft.

    5) I think it's a really creative problem solving idea by the league. It's something I'd never have thought of doing but now that I do think about it, I think it makes perfect sense. It ends up being very little set-up work to get playing time for players when the VHLM gets full, and it can easily come and go as the league needs it. It solves the problems we were facing without causing any issues down the line if there aren't so many new player creations.

    6) No VHLM predictions at this time but I think Malmo, Seattle, Calgary have good teams. We talked about ending Rice's curse in the Miami locker room last year, so maybe it's Seattle's turn haha

Hey, it's fyrefly again. I've more or less calmed down after by rant article, and I've come to realize what a great time I had in Miami and what a great rookie experience I was provided with. @Ricer13 and @Zetterberg are both great guys, and made my stay fun and something I will remember for a long time. And since I'm heading out to Yukon or Vancouver now, all the way across the continent, I probably won't see a bunch of my teammates and GMs for a while.

@RedSus and @tcookie25 , you guys were the best. Always active on forums with me instead of always on discord. I know you guys are both headed to Riga, and congrats for getting drafted so high. I'll look forward to battling with you in the seasons to come

@coochiman gotta love the energy coming from this dude. You and Cabe were the heart and soul of our team, and I'll miss that excitement. Have fun in Riga with those other jokers

I'd also like to give a shout out to the young guys, @thadthrasher, @Owen Taylor, @-_____-, @dickzy, who are going to keep our legacy alive. I'll obviously be cheering for the Rush, but I'll be happy if you guys are successful.

Ricer, I couldn't be thankful enough. You welcomed me into this league, and didn't mind that I didn't have discord. You welcomed me anyway. I'll always be grateful for the mentoring you gave me, and I'' use it wherever I go in this leauge.

Holy shit that was sappy. Please excuse me. I'm going to get back to the fire and ranting for a while now, it felt good venting all that crap that was building up inside me. I did want to get one sappy article out, I do feel pretty grateful to all these guys I mentioned. Anyway, good luck this season, and GO RUSH!!

So this week being draft week was kinda hectic. I might have asked for it myself but here we go. I was preparing for the VHLM draft by scouting players, looking at player’s updates and stats. I didn’t get a chance to interview anyone because I was a new AGM for Yukon. I was 2 months into the job that miraculously came to me. It took me a while to get used to because I have bad memory hence I never remember who’s active and stuff. Yukon Rush. You know, this is a place I never thought I would end up having a job at. We had a great season, great playoff run that got cut off by you know what. I won’t say it but I’m glad that action has been taken. Cow is someone that puts a lot of effort into his work, always. Always wanting the best for Yukon. The playoff elimination wasn’t fair for him but that’s my thought on things.

So nearing the end of the season, Hogan decided to leave if Seattle didn’t win. It’s sad to see him go just like that. I haven’t known Hogan for a long time but I had great conversations with him in Chicago and VHL gen chat. I was still focused on Yukon because we were still in the playoffs but nearing elimination. Basically, I never really paid attention to who Jeff was gonna hire. So one night or Jeff’s morning, he texted me asking if I wanted the job. There were many factors that made me move. Firstly, Lee Xin is there and I thought that it’ll be great to AGM a team my player is on. Also, Jeff is a great GM. He cares for the team and he’s always trying to improve it.
But with this came my next problem. To be honest, I have enough problems already so why another one?! I had to sort of look at the VHL draft class again. The VHL GMs draft with the purpose of having these players stick in the league therefore they are looking for players that have the intention to stay with that team and earn consistently by capping. The VHLM looks for players that can develop well by staying active and capping weekly. But these players are not going to stay in the minors forever. Essentially, the VHLM is mainly for development.

    11/10/20 – Draft day
I had my first taste of a draft discussion. Jeff did a great job by trading for the 4th round pick, expanding our picks. We know have 2 first round picks but who will we pick? VSN predicted that we choose L and R, the toxic duo. We could go that way and pick them or we could not pick them at all. But as an expansion team, we needed to strengthen our blue-line and bring in more prospects. Picking L and R will give us a huge advantage. L is someone that is ready to make that jump and R is not far behind. The draft zoomed to the 4th overall pick, freaking fast dude. I just finished making breakfast and Jeff sends me a text. On the clock now. I go back to twitch and L is picked. We did that, we picked gorlab. Oh no… At least we got ourselves an unlimited graphics machine. BONUS!

The end of the draft was weird already. So despite many many many people telling me to stop Jeff if he drafted a goalie, I’ve failed to do that. My apolo…no, I’m not apologising ok. Who else would we draft? We were quite far into the draft and the players started to drop in terms of earning. I’m starting to see what GMs mean now. We have a whole wave of players and not all of them are earning well enough to see them get drafted. The person that started it all Thrasher is on Chicago with 60 TPE. He has never once updated as well. I think I get my word across like that.

    Thoughts
The draft is definitely huge but can GMs get quality players beyond the 3rd round? GMs are looking for players that can earn and are active but for now, beyond the 3rd round, those qualities are hard to find. I know this is a problem that can’t be solved but this is something that struck me during the draft.

    Note
Thank you to many people I’ve met in this league like Jiggs @JigglyGumballs, Spartan @Spartan, Fishy @fishy, Hylands @Hylands, cowboy @Prout and many others that have made my time here fun and exciting. Thank you Jeff @JeffD for drafting the goon I accidentally made and Cow @MexicanCow123 for introducing me to the world of management. I’m looking forward to the many years (hopefully) that I’ll be hanging around here. And I pinged because idk, I wanna say thank you? Thanks.

Makes sense to me. Not really extra work since it's built in STHS farm league, just a place where people can go to get actual playing time if the rosters get filled up. Adding an extra league, even if it's only 4 teams, ends up becoming extra work for nothing if the league isn't super full. This is easily just there if you need it, not there if you don't.

tcookie reacted to Nikdandrea34 in Riga Reign Capitalize on Deep S75 Draft
n the S75 VHL draft, the Riga Reign went big getting Addison McLaren, Cabe Mcjake, Nikolas D’Andrea, and Vivek Weiner. These players are all connected not just by the team that drafted them, but the team who they player for last year, the S74 Founders Cup champion Miami Marauders. The Marauders completed one of the craziest Cinderella runs in all of VHLM history, defeating the heavy favorite Halifax 21st in a heavily contested rollercoaster 7 game series, again going into another 7 game series against a very strong Los Vegas Aces  team who almost completed a reverse sweep. After slaying the dragon and overcoming the Ricer curse, the Marauders made quick work of the Mississauga Hounds, completing a 4 game sweep and capturing the Founders Cup. The main points of drafting these 3 players are, championship pedigree, clutch factor, and overall activity. The Miami Marauders were amazing at keeping their team locked in and engaged in the locker room, which ultimately led to the success of the team as every player kept upgrading their players every week. This is something the Reign need desperately as they are in rebuild mode, which requires them to turn their picks into players who will grow and develop to slowly mold their team together over time, which will pay dividends in the long run as they don’t have to worry about picking the highest tpe players, instead finding players who are going to continue to grow at a high rate. Both Mcjake and McLaren are constantly at the top of weekly earnings, shine light onto the ever growing new generation of Riga Reign hockey. As for D’Andrea, he started as a late acquisition during the late season playoff push for the Marauders, contributing points whenever he could, provided the needed depth the Marauders needed to go the distance in the playoffs. He will most certainly need more time to season in the VHLM before he’ll be able to make an impact in the big league. Along with the Miami boys, the Reign also picked up Dolant Fertitta, a star left winger who played with Halifax the past season, has a great scoring touch and overall strong offensive skill set, as well he has a very strong defensive game which will add up to a strong player to add for the Riga Reign. Along with Fertitta, Riga also selected Joe Kelly, and all around Center who played for Halifax, his skill set is similar to Fertitta’s he brings good chem and skill to this bright Riga team. Also I’m the first round, Riga selected Sirkants Klamasteris, a goalie who played for Ottawa this past season, he had a .889 save percentage and a sub 3 GAA, which is very good stats for a goalie at age 25. In round 2 the Reign had back to back to back picks, selecting Justin Lose, Linus Zetterstrom, and Artair McCloud. Overall 3 very smart picks, all players seem to be very active and strong base players which help build the core of the Reign team. In the 3rd and 4th the Reign went with Isau Damoose, Teppo McBighit, Andy Nexber, Connor Sim, and Liam Fischl. Riga’s draft continued to take many players to create a great pool of prospects to bolster a strong start to the draft. The remainer of the draft, Riga’s GM focused on taking players who showed activity throughout the season, along with Matt Sovick Jr. A galore who also played for the Marauders the past season, continuing to grow a championship atmosphere in the locker room. Overall the Riga Reign had an amazing draft, which hopefully will continue to push a successful rebuild through activity in the locker room and on the portal.

tcookie reacted to JigglyGumballs in S75 LVA Draft Recap
So since the VHLM Dispersal Draft was done yesterday, I decided it was a good idea to make a draft recap to milk TPE out of. With Vegas not picking until the 6th round, we didn't have much to work with. However with the addition of another 5 rounds past the 7th, we were still able to draft a decent amount of players who can potentially be something for us. So I wanna not only just recap who we picked with our draft picks, but I also wanna set out my expectations and what I think they could bring to LVA next season.

(Note: the picks of where they were taken come from the draft board in the portal, and not from the individual player profiles. There is a difference when it comes past the 7th round so I wanna clarify that)

    Evgeni Shevkov - Drafted 6th Round, 67th Overall @Syzygy

So starting off with our first pick of the draft, we traded up this pick in order to take Shevkov. He was someone me and Spartan really liked in terms of response when we reach out to them and asked them questions regarding the draft. Something that surprises me the most about this draft class is the fact that we got ourselves a 113 TPE guy in the 6th round. Normally we'd get someone with 60-40 TPE of sorts. Anyways, I honestly feel like Shevkov can be a really solid option at C if he can be consistent in updating. As well as if we could help him get used to how things work in the VHL. Spartan traded a future pick for him so I hope he can turn out pretty well.

    Angel Wachiure - Drafted 7th Round, 76th Overall @inflastud

So some of you may be asking as to how the fuck we were able to retain one of our roster players in the 7th round, let alone getting someone with 168 TPE with that pick. With Angel's case, a bit of context is needed. Angel Wachiure was supposed to be draft eligible for S74, but due to the timing of his player creation at the time, portal didn't have him on the draft board. So he ended up becoming a free agent of sorts and he chose to stay with us last season. It was ultimately decided that he was going to be eligible for the S75 draft class instead, though at this point I really don't know why he dropped so far. Maybe the portal didn't have him in the draft class until the day of the draft? Anyways, Angel honestly should have a bit more TPE than what he has by now. And that's because of the lack of activity these past couple of weeks. He is on the Discord LR so hopefully if we can just remind him to update, he'll be more active soon enough. We honestly don't want to drop him due to inactivity tbh.

    Vincent Correll - Drafted 7th Round, 82nd Overall @correllvincent

So I personally really liked Correll's draft response when we first reached out to him. This guy got me @Ledge_and_Dairy vibes so I was really keen on picking him up. Luckily enough, he fell right into our lap and we straight up just took him. What I liked about him is that he has continued to update ever since he first created even though he was never with a VHLM team. He's only seen welfare and PF which means that he's a Clicker so far. Hopefully we can help him be a Welfare plus and bring him past the title of Clicker. Pressers and Trivia are really easy TPE so hopefully we can get him to do them.

    Noah Mashford - Drafted 8th Round, 96th Overall @Mashy

At this point in the draft, the amount of active players are starting to dwindle to a point where you gotta start taking crapshoots. I think this is one of those risky crapshoots. Mashy hadn't updated since week ending Oct. 25th. So hopefully we can help him back into activity. Another center to add to the forward depth, I honestly think his build looks pretty good. It's honestly just a matter of if we can keep him active. So if you're reading this, I sent discord LR invite link pls join.

    Alexis LePrince - Drafted 9th Round, 107th Overall @AnthonyOuellet

So the reason as to why LePrince was selected was mostly because of familiarity on @Spartan's end. I have seen him around in the EFL and I have been told that he's in the SBA as well I think, so Spartan chose him in hopes of getting him to update via affiliate TPE earning. This is honestly a solid option for the top 6 if affiliate earning is kept consistent. I honestly don't have much to say other than welcome to the team bud!

    Aksu Maronen - Drafted 10th Round, 119th Overall @aksuko

A goalie that's still updating in the 10th round? Well with the trade that saw us acquire Matthew A Sovick Jr @matt sovick and a S76 first round pick for exchange for Vegas's first for this season. And with Sovick being the more active and higher TPE goalie, it means that it is very likely that Aksu Maronen is our backup for this season. Again I can't say how well a goalie's build is since I don't know jack shit about building a goalie and I've been too lazy to look up how, but hopefully Maronen would do well as our backup.

    Kunibuni UnGuri - Drafted 11th Round, 131st Overall @Berocka

Since UnGuri was still drafted by us, and this is a draft recap, I still have to add him here. The only reason UnGuri fell this far was due to the fact that it was likely that he would move up to the VHL this season. So teams really don't want to waste a draft pick on someone who's likely not even gonna play for them. Nevertheless, the only reason we picked him was because it was pretty much a meme pick. That or we may have cucked Halifax from picking him and Ra Ra Rasputin for the lols. At this point we already have two other goalies, so our positional needs don't really matter at this point. Anyways, good luck in the VHL!

    Maxwell Reddish - Drafted 12th Round, 143rd Overall @qoreii

To end off our draft we have Maxwell Reddish. A guy who's probably inactive but since he's yet to reach that 2 weeks of inactivity, is still considered to be active. I have nothing much to say about him tbh. Other than hopefully he comes back to activity.

And with that, this concludes the draft recap! Thank fuck we traded our earlier picks away otherwise this would be even more of a pain in the ass for me. Let me know what you think about this and I'll see you all the next time I give myself pain.

Hello, I have a few exciting rule changes to put into place for the VHLM.

Beginning VHLM Season 75, Inactive players must be released from their respective teams. In regards to this, inactivity will be changed from 7 days if players have not updated their player to 14 days. This also extends the inactive claim for users who have updated previously to 21 days. This makes the new inactive markers 14 and 21 days respectively. A player can also be designated inactive at the discretion of the VHLM Commissioners.  Once a player has hit that number they are determined to be inactive and are required to be dropped. Failure to do so will result in a punishment at the discretion of the VHLM Commissioners.

The prime directive of the VHLM is player engagement and retention, not to have team fillers (inactives). Every team will be provided bots to round out their rosters until they’re able to sign a waiver player or free agent. Similar to how you can not play an inactive above an active player, you can not play a bot above an active player. Bots will not increase their stats as the season goes on. To combat dropping an inactive player and them returning, free agency signings have been increased to 3. This is an effort to put more of an emphasis on retention and engagement. Free agents have the same rules as a player in regards to inactivity, with the exception they are deemed inactive at 14 days.

    Now the big news!

We had a very successful recruitment campaign last season and unfortunately we had difficulty signing all of these players to teams. As a solution to this problem is that we have developed the VHLM Juniors. These games will be simmed along side the VHLM games in the farm league within the STHS index. At the start of the season the junior league will be filled with bots and not utilized, then as the season goes on and teams become full we’ll be able to utilize this new junior league. The juniors follow the same rules as the VHLM with a few exceptions.

    Rules:

Juniors will be enabled when at least half of the league has a max roster size (12-8-2) Teams can freely move players up and down from the VHLM Roster and the Junior Roster without risk of players being taken. The only rule to this is your VHLM Roster must not contain any bots. You are not allowed to put a bot in place of an active player on your M roster.  GMs can move an active player down to juniors (the player moving down has to consent and only when the junior league is being used.) When signing a player to waivers with the designation of going to juniors, it has to be made clear in the offer that they will be in said junior league.  When Juniors is enabled the roster sizes will move to 9-6-2, GMs have the ability to keep their team at 12-8-2 if they so choose.  Juniors have playoffs just like the VHLM teams.  No draft for juniors. They must receive players from VHLM teams
The VHLM is a development league first, and we strive to make sure that new members have room to grow and thrive in the VHL's entry level environment.

After an extremely successful first season with the Miami Marauders, Vivek now looks towards a new challenge, as he will bring his talents all the way up to Saskatoon. Drafted 20th overall, Vivek will look to be part of a 1,2 punch center combination with Steve Eso, a pair that will matchup very nicely with other teams around the league, and terrify opposing coaches.  As for his expectations, Vivek is looking to improve from a slightly disappointing season, posting 20 points in 30 games. It's expected that Vivek should reach the point per game mark this season and be a strong defensive force as well. As for his team, the bear minimum expected from them is to make the playoffs, after that anything is possible(which was proved last year by the Marauders). On paper it looks like that should be possible, with a aforementioned strong center core, capable wingers and strong goalie tandem. But with the influx of good players recently the worst thing for Vivek and Saskatoon would be to get complacent.

The Season 75 VHL Entry Draft is slated to go today on November 9th, 2020. 2020 has been quite the year for the VHL, Seattle established themselves as a dynasty, the VHL expanded to 16 teams. Other than Seattle being good, I'd say everything is awesome right now in the VHL (just bugging bana). However, here is a 1st Round mock draft of the Season 75 VHL Entry Draft.

    1st Overall Pick - Los Angeles Stars - C Pistil Stamen 269 TPE @DMaximus

The Los Angeles Stars need help everywhere but goalie. With the highly anticipated prospect Taro Tsjimoto having ties to a later team in this draft, L wanting to be drafted with brother D, so he isn't an option because LA doesn't have another 1st round pick, I assume the Stars will go with plan C. Obviously, I mean that in the best way possible because Stamen is a great prospect in his own right. He comes in with 269 TPE and is well rounded right now. His scoring touch and defense skills are VHL ready right now. What may need some time is his Skating and Puck-Handling skills. In 92 career VHLM games, Stamen has scored 91 points which means he is ready to move up to the show. Stamen will slide in nicely as the 3rd center for now but it won't be long before he moves up to take Richard Penisson's spot.

    2nd Overall Pick - Toronto Legion - D Jolly Greene Giant 250 TPE @DoktorFunk

The Toronto Legion just traded away some of the better players which happens to be Erik Killinger. I believe he is a defenseman so looking at the roster, I would say replacing him with some high end talent is what they want to do right away. Seeing L on the board still is intriguing for the Legion but with their next pick at 13th Overall, it is hard to see the Legion being able to swing a trade for an earlier selection to be able to select R. With that being said, I can see the Legion taking Jolly Greene Giant 2nd overall. It is no different than the United if they had this pick. Giant is a well rounded defenseman with solid scoring and defense abilities. His Skating is average for the VHL level but his strength is above average. He should fit in well on the Legion defense coming in as the 6th defenseman technically but it wouldn't surprise me if the Legion made more moves to free up playing time for Giant.

    3rd Overall Pick - HC Davos Dynamo - G Artem Tretiak 238 TPE @Molholt

The Dynamo are in an interesting position, they have some older players especially on the wings but is 3rd overall to early to reach for a winger? Defense and goalies remain on the board that are more likely to pan out than the wingers on board. That is not a knock on the wingers on the board in RJ Thatcher and Joe Kelly but I think Davos may go in the way of a goalie since Joakim Bruden is getting a little older and he practices well, but he doesn't cap out like others. Tretiak caps out every week and he has so much potential since his agent is the legendary Mike Molholt, who GM'd the threepeat in the VHL, first and only of it's kind.

    4th Overall Pick - Chicago Phoenix - D L 291 TPE @gorlab

Gorlab's hard on for kyl tanked his stock a little bit as he went from being 1st overall to 4th overall. Which is not bad for the Chicago Phoenix as they couldn't be happier. L steps right in to lineup and he would be the 3rd best defenseman on the roster right away as of the draft. That speaks a lot for L's talents and the lack there of on Chicago. Chicago just traded for Jeff Downey to shore up the defense line as well so Downey would be a great mentor for L in his first season.

    5th Overall Pick - New York Americans - D Ove Dyrdahl 232 TPE @GRZ

The Americans have some young centers coming up this season so they seem to be set down the middle for the time being, unless those youngster don't pan out. However, with only 2 defenseman on the roster, I see them kind of reaching for Ove here. He is not bad by any means but the wingers above him could possibly be better. The Americans need defenseman though and Ove is a good one in his own right. Ove is a stay at home defender first and foremost, that may not sit right with the Americans but I think he would fit well with Markus Schauer who is offensive. They could be a Erik Karlsson - Marc Methot type pairing. Ove would step in and be the 3rd defenseman right away and wouldn't be to ofar off pasing Wolf Stenssen as the 2nd best defenseman.

    6th Overall Pick - Chicago Phoenix - D R 213 TPE @Kylrad
Here we have the 2nd part of the defense pairing in R who L demands be drafted with him or else he would not play for the franchise. Chicago is the only team this early in the draft to have picks back close together to pull this off. R at 6th overall could be good if he pans out but will he ever live up to his billing as a top 6 pick? Probably not. That is the risk Chicago will have to take though since they want L and he is a 1st round talent. I hope R proves everyone wrong though and proves he is just as talented as his brother though. Chicago would have a nice pairing for years on the backend if that happens.

    7th Overall Pick - Riga Reign - C It's Gucci - 218 TPE - @frescoelmo

This may seem like a reach but when you have needs, you need to fill it. Riga has 1 C on the roster and he will be entering his 6th season. So in this draft class, Gucci is the next best center after Stamen. Gucci and his agency have been hot and cold in recent times but if you remember, Tarik Saejis is a Riga Legend and he was brought to you by fresco. Maybe a return trip to Riga will reinvigorate fresco and make Gucci a very serviceable player for Riga. He would be the 2nd line center by default. I think this would be a good draft pick for Riga despite the reach as some may perceive it to be. Riga is playing with house money though as they have 3 draft picks in the 1st round.

    8th Overall Pick - Riga Reign - RW RJ Thatcher - 246 TPE - @jhatty8

With back to back picks at 7 and 8, Riga would feel needs up front while hoping youngster Matt Thunder becomes a serviceable defender as he has been in the minors for the past few seasons. He seems to be making progress leaving the Reign to fill their needs up front. Thatcher would fit in well on the right side along side Gucci on the 2nd line. I think GM Zeptenbergs has a good relationship from the SBA with agent Jhatty, so he would be able to keep him active. Getting Thatcher this late in the 1st round is great for Riga and they should be giddy with anticipation for Thatcher.

    9th Overall Pick - HC Davos Dynamo - C Taro Tsujimoto - 301 TPE - @GustavMattias

    GM Selection

    10th Overall Pick - Riga Reign - G Sirkants Klamsteris - 253 TPE - @hedgehog337

    GM Selection

    11th Overall Pick - Warsaw Predators - D Muffbeav - 263 TPE - @.sniffuM

    GM Selection

    12th Overall Pick - Vancouver Wolves - LW Cabe McJake - 233 TPE - @RedSus

GM Beaviss loves him some first generation players and RedSus would be barking up the right tree if he wanted to go to the defending VHL Champions in Vancouver. Vancouver has always had good luck with 1st Gen players so take McJake here would be a match made in heaven for both. Nothing better than being a player joining a cup contending team right away while also stepping onto a team that needs Left Wingers as they're none on the current roster. However, it would still require a lot of work for Cabe to earn that spot on the top line but the potential is there for the yongster and Vancouver has a ton of veterans willing help out McJake.

    13th Overall Pick - Toronto Legion - LW Joe Kelly - 243 TPE - @emidas

I originally had Kelly going 9th to Davos to join his running mate Molholt but then I remembered GM's have to use their 1st round picks on their own players which I think is dumb. Either have the in the draft and they can go anywhere or just give them to their teams without picks. That is neither here nor there. Toronto gets an absolute steal to add to their forward group, while the need may be on the backend, the possibility of adding a forward of Kelly's caliber is too much to pass up. Doesn't that sound like another Toronto hockey team?

    14th Overall Pick - Vancouver Wolves - D Shawn Andrei Zyuzin - 206 TPE - @me

I could be too high on myself here but I think I am the best defender left, and Vancouver could use a defender to step in after trading Jeff Downey to Chicago. I am not knocking other defenders left but I have earned at a higher rate and have almost caught them in TPE despite their headstart and because of the blues unwillingness to have me add my carryover TPE I have earned. I would be at 246 TPE at the time of writing but it is what it is. VHL commies gonna be anal about stupid things but let other things slide.

    15th Overall Pick - Helsinki Titans - LW Addison McLaren - 226 TPE - @tcookie25

To finish off the 1st round with an actual draft pick and not a GM pick, we have McLaren a winger who helped the Miami team win the championship after barely squeaking into the playoffs. I think McLaren is a fine winger and would fit in nicely in the future but will most likely spend a season in the minors.

    16th Overall Pick - Moscow Menace - G Rara Rasputin - 238 TPE - @Victor
