  2. January 20th Update

Here we are its now the 20th of January opening night of he VHL S76 Season and on a cold windy night in Prague, Czech Republic we find a young 16 year old Russian giant about to make his professional hockey debut. Willy Myers, the bull headed strong young winger has found himself right were he wanted to be at this time. He has accomplished a goal that most said was impossible but here it is and its happened Willy Myers was named to the Prague Phantoms opening night roster for the S76 VHL Season. Myers was still drafted quite high in the VHLM draft by Halifax taking him as high as 22nd Overall even after clearly stating and even speaking in person with any GM that was interested making it so more than very clear Willy was going pro in S76 and will NOT be playing in the VHLM. However Halifax took the gamble hoping Prague or every other VHL team would go with the decision not to draft Willy or not sign him and force him to play in the M as it is the GM who has the final say at the end of the day. But NOPE Willy did what he promised Putin and he is representing his country proudly already playing in the VHL after no one said he would make it as well as making the Phantoms.

  4. January 8th 2020.

Willy Myers Agent has confirmed his intentions to go "PRO" and is preparing for the VHL next season and will most likely not be returning to the VHLM. "Where i come from in mother russia , waiting is mans worst weakness" Myers was quoted via telephone... With his Current TPE Earning Rate Willy is on track to hit 214 TPE By draft night and will most likely be nearing the cap by season start. This is an official Statement for all VHL teams looking for a Pro ready winger. The VHLM is not out of question however Activity will most likely decline after hitting 250 if Myers isnt on a Pro Roster for S76 "Me ready for Pro's Putin sent me here to make statement, no time to waste, HOF or bust"- Willy Myers @VHLFantasy

    January 11th Update

Willy Myers continue to prove any doubters wrong,. Myers Agent took to the mic on VHL 69.9 Radio stating his client is closing in on the 200 TPE mark Willy is on track to hit 234 by Opening Night if the season were to start on January 25th (Which is uncertain, and in todays world, one where the US Capitol Building can be taken over by a cult, Half of North America is under a Lockdown, Who knows whats happening in Mexico) but on other note Willy has been contacted by several VHL GMs , and has been in the top 10 in most VHLM Mocks Drafts. Bottom Line Willy has made the decision he quote on quote refuses to play in the VHLM next season and insists on going Pro with the intention etching his name in the record books, Willy can fit into almost any of the bottom 10 VHL Teams Top 7 Forwards and fit it right away, after one weeks end in the pros Myers will Surpass 250 TPE and be a capped player, So VHL Teams looking for a steal of a Pick who is Pro ready, Look no Further “Refuse to play anywhere than VHL, Games Played, Games Played , Games Played … dat is what Vladimir and Vladimir Tell me whole life growing up, I will be in VHL Record book, you watch” @VHLFantasy

  7. In Willy Myers first taste of VHLM he had two goals and one assists for three points while drawing 4 minutes in penalties and laying 12 hits in 17 games since joining Saskatoon this season, when his debut was delayed due to International Visa issues as well as Covid-19 Border Restrictions. Since coming to Saskatoon Myers on ice play has been nothing short of signs of excellence every shift , hist offensive capabilities are other worldly. Myers had been training with Pavel Datsyuk and Maxim Afinogenov. Willy said he used this time to really work on his Puck handling and deception and changes in speed and acceleration. These are probably the most knowledgeable in those areas and I couldn’t be more lucky.

“He’s a solid two-way Winger who’s played for his country at the under-17 and under-18 world championships and who can stabilize our young defence,” Rico Swave, the RSL’s director of hockey operations and head coach, said of the Russian international.

is expected to be in the lineup against the visiting opponents during the 1st playoff games .

The addition of the younger Myers puts the Wild roster at 20, numbering 12 forwards, five defencemen and two goaltenders. The VHLM playoffs should start anyday now .

  10. THE RUSSIA STAR *

You started like a figure skater when you were kid.

Yes, when I was 4 I started like a figure skater. Then I looked on hockey players all the time and I wanted to join them. My grandfather saw I did not pay attention and I like hockey more, he decided to sign me up for hockey.

How it was in the juniors? You spent long years overseas as a young player.

I liked it there. I was happy for being there. When you are young, you want to go into the world. You do not like it much at home. It got me freedom. I even did not want to come back to home.

With just one offer to the VHLM Saskatoon chose you, after making the jump from Russia, Was it hard for you?

It was not nice, but I was back in the VHLM and got know new teams. Mainly I was still there. It was important for me that teams had interest in me. I had no family so I packed my luggage and went there. It was not something terrible.

My talent is not for example the like of Red Lite. I could not choose teams. I try to work out hard. My target is the entire league.

You often played less than two minutes per game in your last season for Colorado Avalanche. We’re not you angry?

Some coaches give to this kind of players more ice-time, some less. It is the strategy of the coach. I was disappointed of course. When I am looking back, it was wrong it made me disappointed. I should be thankful for being there… But I have ever been. I was angry, but it forced me to work out more and more. I was happy to be there. When you just practice with the team, you can get better.

-Myers was picked first overall in this year's QMJHL draft in June but balked at reporting to Charlottetown.

The high-scoring 16-year-old forward was clearly the most talented player available in this year's crop of midget prospects and has been compared to Cole Harbour product — Sidney Crosby.

Myers starred for Russia at the Canada Games in Halifax in February, leading the team in scoring by a wide margin despite being double teamed during most games. He had eight goals and 11 points to finish tied for fourth in tournament scoring even though Team Russia was overmatched in most games.

Many scouts have suggested he's the early favorite to go first round in the S76 VHLM draft. Myers grew up playing in the same minor hockey system as Crosby and then jumped to Shattuck St. Mary's prep school in Minnesota, where Crosby also played. Willy would then go on to play in the MHL for CSKA , as well as spend time with the Red Bull HC and being loaned to the Modo J20 Sweden Elit Team for months were he was called up for 6 games in the Allvenskan league and practiced with the big boys from that day on.

The three are part of a 29-man invite list for camp, which will determine the 23 players named to the Russian National U-350 TPE Team in the coming weeks. All three took part in October's National Junior Team Evaluation Camp in Las Vegas Nevada.

Funk Jr, Most likely the 2nd Forward to be picked on draft day , the unanimous #2 Forward prospect is entering his sophomore season in the M. The Russia -native was part of the S74 Ottawa Lynx squad before being drafted to San Diego last Offseason.

Zyuzin, Chicago's second-round pick in October's draft (22nd overall), was also a member of Russia’s National Team Development Program for two seasons and is entering his rookie season in the big apple after an impressive training camp earning a surprise roster spot.

    Fantasy Hockey Potential: Offensive = 9/10   Defensive = 6.5/10

    NHL Player(s) Comparison: Ilya Kovalchuk

Interesting Note(s): “His long time hockey idol was Pavel Bure, “There never has been nor ever will be a player with the skill and IQ like Bure, he is truly a living hockey god” quoted Myers – as a tribute to Pavel, Myers wears No. 10 and has X tattooed on his left wrist.”

Player Profile: Throughout the regular season, fans heard of reports from VSN Insiders that Willy Myers was looking forward to joining the VHL sooner rather than later. Various stories from Russian Media outlets corroborated this excitement with reports where Myers was quoted saying much of the same and that to make things more dramatic he was even offered a rather lucrative contract to stay in the KHL, but he rejected to sign to join the VHLM.

    So what’s the holdup?

In short, the pandemic. However, the situation is a bit more complicated than that. If 2020 were a normal year, Willy would have been able to sign to his Entry-Level Contract and playa full 72 game season. There are debates to be had if the Saskatoon Wild would still be in their season with there story book of a season on their own, but the novel continues and the Coronavirus has changed everything.

With the pause allowing Myers and his family an ample amount of time to think, some began to wonder if Willy actually would be able to join the a league in North America , if the league were to return to play. His KHL contract did officially expire November 30th, he’s yet to sign a new KHL deal.

“His long time hockey idol was Pavel Bure, “There never has been nor ever will be a player with the skill and IQ like Bure, he is truly a living hockey god” quoted Myers – as a tribute to Pavel, Myers wears No. 10 and has XVII tattooed on his left wrist.”

Suffice to say, his draft stock has fallen from being a consensus 1st round pick, to maybe not even going in the first round. VHL teams will have to consider his character in the ever important interview opportunities they have, because there is no doubt that he still has blue-chip talent. He’s lanky, but his size is very enticing. Offensively, when he’s on his game, he can simply dominate. He sees the ice well and has a very impressive shot, but can also utilize his teammates very effectively. Consistency and intensity are some question marks, and Willy has been labelled in Russia as a prima donna numerous times, but the sheer skill he possesses can’t be questioned. In recent interviews however Willy has gone out of his way to apologize for the way he acted when he was younger and how much he has learned from playing with older players and how much his growth as a teammate has come along.

Wherever he ends up going in the draft will be among the biggest storylines in Russia come draft day, if not more interesting then the draft stock debate. While his mistakes on and off the ice in his past have certainly hurt him, he’s matured immensely being still so very young and will have plenty of time to prove that he has what it takes to be a professional who can be an impact and most importantly team player at the next level.
